00:00An Arizona woman has been indicted for allegedly faking a pregnancy with a Bachelor star,
00:04complete with fake ultrasounds, a doctored video, and a whole lot of courtroom drama.
00:09Let's break it down.
00:1134-year-old Laura Michelle Owens, a podcast host, TEDx speaker, equestrian champ,
00:16and the daughter of Bay Area radio legend Ron Owens, is now facing seven felony charges after
00:22allegedly creating an entire fake pregnancy narrative involving Clayton Eckert. And yes,
00:27we're talking about Klainos from season 26 of The Bachelor and season 18 of The Bachelorette,
00:32led by Michelle Young. While on The Bachelor, Clayton proposed to Susie Evans, though she
00:37initially rejected him. The two reunited during the After the Final Rose special. Unfortunately,
00:42the relationship didn't last and the couple split in September of 2022. Now, Clayton's name is back
00:48in headlines, but not for anything he did. NBC News reports between May 2023 and June 2024,
00:54Laura Owens allegedly claimed she was pregnant with Clayton's child, submitted an altered ultrasound,
01:00fabricated a pregnancy video, and then, to make it all worse, allegedly lied under oath multiple
01:06times. According to AZ Central, Owens even reportedly filed for child support in August 2023,
01:12but then suddenly dropped the case, stating she was no longer pregnant. That's when red flags started
01:17flying and investigators started digging. Unlike Clayton, Laura was never on The Bachelor. So how
01:24did we get here? According to Owens' website, Clayton was Laura's realtor in 2023, and she found
01:29herself staring at a positive home pregnancy test after a year of celibacy, writing,
01:34it was 11 days after I hooked up with my then-realtor, Clayton Eckert, former star of The Bachelor.
01:40Suddenly, the structure and predictability that kept me grounded were gone, and I froze. In her blog
01:46post, Laura details her life while slowly being diagnosed with depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD,
01:52and autism. It seems the blog post was a way for Owens to share her side of the story with Clayton,
01:57claiming The Bachelor star texted her a list of options, describing it as a business transaction.
02:02The text allegedly read,
02:04I would like for you to get an abortion. If you do not, that's your choice. Either you'll take 100%
02:10custody of the child, or it will be put up for adoption. Owens' claims continued, stating Clayton
02:15invited her over to talk, then asked her to take a pregnancy test in front of him, which came back
02:19positive. The podcast host also stated she invited Eckert and his family to five OBGYN appointments to
02:26involve them in the pregnancy, but they never showed interest, leading her to cancel out a fear and
02:30emotional overwhelm. The events led Laura to file a paternity case to legally protect her custody
02:35rights, believing it would prompt Eckert to engage and take a prenatal test. But states after she
02:40paid for the test at his chosen lab, Clayton ignored all contact, forcing Owens to get a refund
02:46and leaving her with more questions than answers. According to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office,
02:52Owens made false statements throughout a paternity hearing and tampered with evidence. Now,
02:56the co-host of the Nobody Told Me podcast is facing charges that include Class 4 felony forgery,
03:02Class 4 felony perjury, and Class 2 felony fraud, charges that can carry anywhere from one to 12
03:08and a half years in prison with up to $150,000 in fines. Since the indictment, many online are
03:13stating justice has been served. One ex-user wrote, I haven't been paying attention because I thought
03:19nothing would be done about her, but please tell me this is real. While another stated,
03:23this restores my faith in the justice system. But what's your take?
