Interview with Brendan Clogher and Jake Wyatt
Transcript
00:00I think and then I think Brendan should talk because he was the one really responsible for
00:04getting Lex into the show. But I think for me and for the writers, both Amanda Waller and Lex Luthor
00:09are so convinced they're right. And so they're the heroes. There's an alien invasion. They know
00:14it's coming. And they'll do anything to prevent it. That's what heroes do. So I think what makes
00:21them such a potent pair is the fact that these are two people who will never accept that they're
00:28wrong. And if the world suffers for it, that just reinforces their beliefs. So they're flawed like
00:36all of our characters. But unlike, you know, Clark, who just has anxiety, or Lois, who's maybe a little
00:41too ambitious, their flaw is that they're going to discount people who they think are weak, or they
00:47discount people who they don't care about for the bigger picture. And that's terrifying.
00:53Yeah, and our Lex is on his road to becoming the Lex Luthor we all know and love. And so in season
00:57one, he was also an intern like our heroes. And now in season two, he's finally got the boss
01:01that's going to let him get to the next level of his career, so to speak, through her nefarious
01:07deeds, fund his stuff for him to do instead of having to work for some other weirdo.
01:14And just so you know, Brendan sneakily backdoored Lex in. We were given a no Lex Luthor mandate
01:19for the show for seasons one and two.
01:21You gotta have Lex.
01:22And Brendan said, okay. And then he's like, Ivo's going to have an assistant. His name's going
01:25to be Alex. And we're like, is this Lex? And he's like, maybe. And then our execs are
01:29like, is this Lex? And he's like, if you want him to be. And then he got his way. And
01:34I was so aggressive to watch. This was like a year and a half long campaign to get Lex
01:37through the show.
