00:00Israeli strikes across Gaza killed at least 59, hospital officials said, as Israel prepares to ramp up its campaign against Hamas militants.

00:13The strikes included an attack on a school sheltering hundreds of displaced Palestinians, which reportedly killed 27 people.

00:23Nine women and three children were amongst the dead, according to local officials.

00:29An early morning strike on another school-turned-shelter killed 16 people, while strikes on targets in other areas killed at least 16 others.

00:40The Israeli Defense Forces made no immediate comment on the strikes.

00:46The new bloodshed comes days after Israel approved a plan to intensify military operations in the Palestinian enclave.
