00:00DoorDash has made a big acquisition in hopes of expanding its presence in Europe.
00:04The delivery company has purchased its British rival Deliveroo for $3.9 billion.
00:09DoorDash will now compete with Uber Eats and Just Eat as it tries to grow in the region.
00:13Of the sale, Deliveroo's chair said,
00:15Following careful consideration, the Deliveroo Independent Committee has unanimously decided to recommend this offer,
00:21considering it to be in the interests of all of our shareholders and wider stakeholders.
00:25Deliveroo was founded in 2013 and currently sees 62% of sales come from Britain and Ireland.
00:31It also has significant customer bases in France and Italy.
00:34DoorDash and Deliveroo combined saw $90 billion worth of orders in 2024.
00:39DoorDash has been busy with its expansion.
00:41In addition to its Deliveroo acquisition,
00:43it also announced a $1.2 billion acquisition of restaurant booking platform Seven Rooms.
