00:00Anderson, I want to come to you first.
00:02An astonishing array of videos there.
00:05Many people looking at that will think that the French Coast Guard
00:09are simply enabling the people smugglers.
00:12It might be astonishing, Martin, but it comes as no surprise.
00:15This has been happening for the last three or four years.
00:18As you know, I've been to the camps.
00:19I saw the French enabling, and the NGOs, the British NGOs,
00:22enabling these illegal migrants to come over the channel.
00:25I'll tell you what, this started under the Tory government.
00:27It's got worse under this Labour government.
00:30And what we might as well do is just put two flights a day on from France.
00:32We might as well put two Ryanair flights on and say,
00:35come on, lads, jump on here, because that's what we're doing.
00:37This is not deterring, it's not smashing the gangs.
00:40It's like, as Mark says, it's enabling people,
00:43it's encouraging them to make this perilous journey across the channel.
00:46And quite frankly, our government should be ashamed of themselves
00:49of letting the French do this.
00:50So what do we do about it? What do you do?
00:52If you're in government now, reform, you can talk to the full you like.
00:54You're in power. Nigel Farrell is the Prime Minister.
00:57What are you going to do about that?
00:58The first thing I would do, I would detain these people coming over the channel.
01:02They would be in a secure facility.
01:04I've been asking for this for four or five years now.
01:06As soon as they land on our shores, they should be put in a camp,
01:08detained there, ready for deportation.
01:10They should not be allowed to claim asylum.
01:12No asylum claims whatsoever.
01:13And where we can, turn them back in the channel.
01:16Paul Richards, let's bring you in at this point.
01:18And there is nothing more obvious than the naked evidence we see before our eyes.
01:23This is a total failure of the British states,
01:27a total failure of the French authorities.
01:30This is, it's bedlam in the channel.
01:33I mean, there are people that say,
01:34just put the Royal Navy destroyers into the channel
01:37and, you know, shell these people, let them drown in the channel.
01:40But I think most people...
01:41Who said that, Paul?
01:42People...
01:43Who? Who's these people?
01:44You hear people saying, let them drown.
01:46Who?
01:46There are people on the doorsteps who say, let them drown.
01:50But I think handling out life jackets isn't enabling.
01:52I think it is just securing safety at sea.
01:55And by the point that they're there, it is obviously too late, isn't it?
01:59So the argument is about how do you then stop that happening?
02:02How do you puncture the boats from getting anywhere near the water?
02:05How do you disrupt the supply lines?
02:07You puncture the boats.
02:08Before they get anywhere near the coast of France or Belgium?
02:11How do we work better with the French and the Belgians
02:14to stop so it gets nowhere near the water?
02:17And how do you smash the gangs?
02:19And that is a slogan based on a policy...
02:22It's not a policy.
02:22...which is the only way to do this
02:24because you have to stop these animals who are putting these people into boats.
02:26It's gone up by 36%, Paul.
02:28It's gone up by 36% this year alone.
02:30This smashing the gangs nonsense.
02:32This slogan is absolute nonsense.
02:34But you and I know if there was an easy, single, simple solution
02:37like gunboats in the Channel or whatever,
02:39then any government, Labour or Tory, law reform, would do it.
02:42There is a simple solution.
02:43And your government and the Tory government was the same.
02:46They haven't got the backbone or the political will to do it.
02:49These people need to send them back the same day.
02:51And if it means a standoff with France, so what?
02:53There are people dying in the Channel every single week.
02:57Indeed, and that is horrendous,
02:58which is why they're giving them the life jackets.
03:00And I think we can all agree that's a reasonable thing to do.
03:02But, you know, the point is,
03:05how do you stop them getting anywhere near the Channel?
03:06How do you stop this evil trade even happening?
03:09And you stop the animals who are putting them into the boats.
03:13And you lock them up.
03:14That's what you do.
03:14They should be locked up.
03:15As soon as they arrive on these shores, they should be locked up.
03:17No, I don't mean the asylum seekers.
03:18I'm talking about the criminal gangs
03:19who are putting them in the water in the first place.
03:22When a gang gets arrested,
03:24I think we've arrested one person so far
03:25who's been sent to prison since Sarmus said
03:27he was going to smash the gangs,
03:28there's another 20, 30, 40, 50 gangs ready to take their place.
03:31Well, then we need to re-double our efforts.
03:33We're due to them more.
03:33No, it's nonsense.
03:34This will not stop until the pool factor is stopped.
03:37And the pool factor at the moment is,
03:38you give them life jackets,
03:39you're escorting them across the Channel,
03:41you put them in hotels,
03:42you give them free legal aid to claim asylum,
03:45and they're never leaving this country.
03:47I mean, they shouldn't be in hotels.
03:48I agree with that.
03:48I think the people profiteering out of themselves
03:50should be taxed as well.
03:51They should be in tents or in camps.
03:53That's where they should be.
03:53But your policy is not that you should ban all asylum.
03:57No, it's not, no.
03:58But what we say is,
03:59if you arrive here illegally,
04:01i.e. on a boat or on the back of a lorry,
04:02you should not claim asylum.
04:04Right.
04:04But how do you know that some of the people on those boats
04:06are not actually legitimate asylum seekers?
04:08Because they've just left a safe country in France.
04:11If they're in a safe country,
04:13they pass through six or seven pool safe countries,
04:15if they are really in fear of their life,
04:18they would claim asylum in the first safe country.
04:21Hmm.
