00:00Stable Rice Prices Trigger a Five-Year Low in Inflation
00:05The Philippine Statistics Authority says inflation drops for the third month in a row, reaching 1.4% in April.
00:12The inflation slowed down last month amid easing food and oil prices from 1.8% in March.
00:18The decline in rice and vegetable prices helped counter the increase in electricity rates and light rail transit Line 1 fares.
00:25This keeps the Consumer Price Index below the government's target of 2% to 4% and brings the country's average inflation rate to 2% for the first four months of 2025.
00:34April's rate is the lowest since the 1.2% in November 2019.
00:39The continuing drop in inflation comes just weeks after the Banco Central ng Pilipinas lowered interest rates to 5.5%.
