00:00Curry to midcourt. Right sideline, Heald lets it fly. It's up and good again!
00:06He hit another one! Buddy Heald, it's all white light for him right now.
00:11He's got a 19-point half, and the Warriors lead 45-31.
00:16Dubnation, it's the voice of the Warriors, Tim Roy.
00:19You're listening to Willard and Dibbs on 95.7 The Game.
00:23Buddy freaking Heald.
00:25Buddy!
00:26I mean, honestly, you gotta be kidding me.
00:30You gotta be kidding me.
00:31You gotta be kidding me that this is the way the story goes.
00:34Well, and the thing about it is when he hits the one at the end of the first quarter from, what, like 40 or 45 or whatever.
00:41He's got three paces inside half court.
00:43Right. At that point, it's like, okay, now do you believe?
00:48It's my Bobby Fitz from years ago.
00:50It only put him up by four.
00:52Right.
00:52I guess my answer, when you say, now do you believe, I would say, believe in what?
00:57Believe that, like, they can win this game because...
00:59I remember exactly what I said when they did that.
01:01Because, again, we're doing the show, and I found it to be the most distracting, and it's just the most awful thing ever.
01:08Oh, you think?
01:09Try watching it with a two-year-old, but go ahead.
01:11Yeah.
01:12I've done that.
01:13I've been there.
01:13I've done that.
01:14The Warriors have been winning championships my kids' entire lives.
01:18Jude was, like, one, right?
01:19I mean, even before he was born.
01:21So, yeah.
01:23Anyway.
01:23That's so nice.
01:24Anyway.
01:25Yeah, when was their first one?
01:26Was it 14?
01:2615.
01:2715.
01:28Yep.
01:28Okay, Jude was one.
01:30He was one.
01:32So, yes, his whole life they've been winning this thing.
01:34So, yeah, plenty of distractions.
01:36But when Buddy hit that one, I said to Ephraim, I go, all I'll say, because he's like, hey, they're looking good.
01:45I'm like, I'm not doing that.
01:46We're not doing they're looking good.
01:48All I'll say is they passed the first test.
01:52And the first test in a game seven, or any energetic road game, I feel like, is to weather the storm.
01:59Weather the opening quarter storm, which they could not do in game five.
02:04They couldn't do it.
02:04The Rockets came out and hit everything, and the ball game was over at the end of one quarter.
02:10So, when he hit that shot, and they finished the first quarter up four, I'm like, okay, checkmark, you weathered the storm.
02:18But now you've got to go play better than the other team the rest of the way.
02:21And they most certainly did.
02:24They most certainly did.
02:25Yeah.
02:26And one thing I said, I did a little radio interview yesterday out of market.
02:30And I said that, honestly, it feels counterintuitive to say it, but I felt like an under game, and the total was 205 and a half, I felt like a game that was under actually favored the Warriors.
02:43I thought that if you got into a game where the Rockets were scoring and scoring great, and Fred Van Vliet's going off, and no answer for Shen Goon, and Jalen Green this, and Dylan Brooks that.
02:54And the Warriors were able to match up with almost anybody in that way, but the way the Rockets have been so good defensively, I thought that this game had to be a lower-scoring rock fight game.
03:05And it's 2019 in the first quarter, and Buddy hits one from 40, and you're up four, and it's like, okay, perfect first quarter for the Dubs.
03:12No, I agree with you, largely just because of this.
03:15The Warriors are better in the half-court offense than the Rockets are.
03:18Right.
03:18So that's the game they want to play.
03:21When the Rockets start catching up is when you make turnovers and let them get out running in the open court.
03:28If Thompson or Jalen Green is coming at you at full speed and you have a Warrior jersey on, you have no chance.
03:33They literally don't have anybody who can stop them from dunking or laying that thing in.
03:39And you saw that.
03:39When they cut it to three, that's what was going on.
03:41The game was getting a little fast.
03:43And so I thought they did a wonderful job.
03:46And this is mainly Steph and Jimmy.
03:48They did a wonderful job because those guys get caught up in it sometimes because they want to go, go, go also.
03:54They did a wonderful job with the pace.
03:57In the third quarter when the Rockets, and you gave Steve Kerr credit for some good timeouts, call timeout, slow the game down.
04:08And they did it, I thought, very intuitively in this game.
04:12And it worked.
04:13It worked really well because the Rockets in the half-court, they struggled.
04:18They really struggled.
04:19And the Warriors played some great half-court defense.
04:22We're live in the Laughing Monk studios.
04:24Laughing Monk is righteously brewed in San Francisco.
04:26And we love having Laughing Monk along for the ride.
04:29And also, Boxer and Gerson for the Boxer and Gerson work injury attorneys text line.
04:34And, let's see, 925 said, hey guys, good afternoon.
04:38I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that Buddy Heald had a great series against the Rockets.
04:42Did I use the word great?
04:44All in all, when I look at the series, I thought Buddy did what you would ask Buddy to do.
04:49I'm not asking Buddy to go out there and score double digits seven times and hit three or four or five threes in every game.
04:57No, you said he was great two or three times.
05:00Yeah, and if you can do that, if you can do that, like 40% of the games, if you can be that guy and knock down multiple threes for the team, I'm going to take that from Buddy Heald.
05:09That's all this team needs from him.
05:10Absolutely, and he was great in game three, and Steph had 36, and you won.
05:16And he was their second leading scorer in that game.
05:18You didn't have Jimmy.
05:20GP2 was also great, and you grinded out a win at home over Houston.
05:24And then he was great again in game four.
05:27And that's also a game, by the way, that you won.
05:29So, if Buddy is great in those games, and if you want to say in the other four games he was bad, okay.
05:36He had 2, 5, 4, and 0 in those games.
05:39In game six, you mentioned it, everyone was pretty much bad, and he was 0 for 4, and 0 for 4 from 3, and you lose.
05:46It doesn't mean that if Buddy's good, you win, but if Buddy's good, and he's your number three or number four scorer, you have a great chance to win.
05:55Steve brought it up to us.
05:57When we brought up the Moody starting lineup thing, he goes, isn't it when Buddy's Heald scores north of 15 points, they don't lose.
06:06They flat out barely ever lose.
06:09In that scenario.
06:10So, yeah, he's not an indicator, but it's close.
06:15It's pretty close.
06:16Let's go to Matt in San Jose.
06:17Hi, Matt.
06:18Thanks for calling.
06:18What's up?
06:21What's up, fellas?
06:22First, I just want to say the nicknames that have come from today's show are crazy.
06:26Because Jonathan, that call earlier, he said, Game 7, hey, Buddy!
06:31Then we got the Turkish Tantrum and Steph Currency because it shot his money.
06:35We got some nicknames up in here today, boys.
06:38Even though some of them were by accident.
06:40But, yes, we love it.
06:43Steph Currency is definitely a good one.
06:46The Game 7 story is crazy, man.
06:49My off-season job is DoorDash.
06:51And I was dashing like the two hours before tip-off.
06:54I stopped to watch the first three and a half quarters.
06:57By the six-minute mark, you know, it's Sunday.
07:00Let the church say, hey, man, Thompson, he's having a show.
07:02And I started to get a little nervous.
07:03I clocked back into DoorDash.
07:05And all of a sudden, they go on a run.
07:07I'm standing in Panda Express at the plant in San Jose.
07:10And they're going on this run.
07:13And I'm trying to avoid screaming.
07:15I walk outside.
07:17And Buddy hits the three from the corner and does the ride the horse.
07:21And I screamed and jumped.
07:22I almost dropped Stephanie's orange chicken and chow mein.
07:26And then I'm standing there like, you know what?
07:29That was an elevation sensation.
07:31And you know what?
07:31I'll donate a dollar, Mark.
07:33Donate the dollar, man.
07:34Donate the dollar.
07:36Winner, winner, orange chicken dinner.
07:38That's exactly what you should have yelled in that parking lot, Matt.
07:42I was yelling, Warriors.
07:44And, you know, I'm looking around.
07:46And it's Cinco de Mayo.
07:47So there's a lot of people driving through.
07:48Mexican flags are everywhere.
07:50And people are listening to the game on the radio.
07:52So the voice of Tim Roy is like in every other car that's driving by.
07:57And people are screaming and hollering.
07:59And the flags are waving.
08:00And it was just an absolute show at the plant of all places.
08:04I love it.
08:05Nice.
08:05Absolutely love it.
08:06Matt, thank you very much.
08:07And, of course, it was orange chicken.
08:09Of course.
08:09Can you go into Panda Express and not get orange chicken?
08:11No, you can order whatever you want as long as you also get orange chicken.
08:15Yeah, exactly.
08:15You have to get that thing.
08:16I mean, that's mandatory.
08:17I like the, they got a chicken and mushroom dish in there.
08:22Okay.
08:22That's a different chicken.
08:24It's a very, very different experience.
08:25I like it.
08:26Right.
08:26But you got to get the orange chicken with it.
08:28You do.
08:28Or else you're just doing it wrong.
08:29Yeah, it's Will and the Dips here talking about Panda.
08:32Panda, yeah.
08:33Panda, panda, panda, panda, panda, panda.
08:34Yeah.
08:35Yeah, exactly.
08:36Sure.
08:37The whole thing was just, it was a wonderful night.
08:41No, and I love the way you're like laying it out there like, where were you and what
08:44was your thing?
08:44And he's out there, he's out there door dashing and he's working and he goes into Panda and
08:48he's, you know, screaming, trying to pick up Stephanie's orange chicken.
08:52My entire night was a fork in the eye.
08:54It was, I'm like, and I don't want anybody's sympathy.
08:57That's not what I'm saying.
08:58But like, dude, all I want in a game like that, and for me, game seven is kind of like,
09:05I'm going to turn into a little bit of a-
09:07Of a nutcase.
09:09No doubt.
09:09And a recluse.
09:10I don't want people around because if it doesn't go well, you all say the wrong thing.
09:19It doesn't matter who you are.
09:21If it's not going well, you're saying the wrong thing.
09:26I don't want to hear it.
09:27I don't want to hear that pods sucks and we never liked them anyway.
09:32Like, I don't want to hear that.
09:34I don't want to hear about the refs.
09:36I don't want to hear about how Steve Kerr better-
09:39Those rotations.
09:40Be accountable.
09:42I don't, I don't, I don't want to talk to you.
09:45Not if it's not going well.
09:48And, and, and so I got to be, I was forced to be a recluse.
09:52Yep.
09:52Yep.
09:53Cause you're doing live radio.
09:54I'm doing live radio.
09:55But I'm sitting here.
09:56No joke.
09:57We're the second half of this game.
09:58And I'm having a conversation with a 300 pound ex-offensive lineman about Malik neighbors.
10:03Right.
10:03I'm like, can you be more distracted right now?
10:06Totally disconnected.
10:07Luckily I can say it to him.
10:08He knows he's a huge Laker fan.
10:10Yeah.
10:11I'm a huge warrior fan and I'm just, I'll joke with him.
10:13I'll just be like, dude, just, just talk for six minutes.
10:16Right.
10:17I'm like, I need a moment.
10:18You know what I mean?
10:19But luckily the Warriors made that as stress-free as a game seven can be.
10:24Late.
10:24Late.
10:24Late.
10:25Fourth quarter.
10:26Yes.
10:26Yeah.
10:26And, uh, you know, but they played well.
10:28They played well for watching it as a family.
10:30And I had to banish my two and a half year old into the office because she refused to lock
10:34in and I get it.
10:35And she, you know, she was there for, with me for the third quarter and then it got a
10:40little dicey and you know, she's on my lap and I'm starting to, you know, maybe squeeze
10:43her a little bit.
10:44And it's like, you know, daddy read a book, honey.
10:47I'm not, we're not reading a book.
10:49We're not doing, daddy's not going to read a book.
10:52Okay.
10:52Please tell me that when you tell her to lock in, she says, yawk in.
10:57Totally.
10:57I am yawked in.
10:59I am yawked in.
11:00Myla, you need to lock in.
11:02I am yawked in.
11:04Honey, you're not yawked in.
11:05You're not.
11:06Okay.
11:07You're not.
11:08It's down to three.
11:09All right.
11:10Get in the office.
11:11You're watching Masha.
11:12Watch Masha.
11:13Watch Coco Melon Yane.
11:15Oh my God.
11:16Now she wants to watch Coco Menden Yane.
11:18I would have paid a hundred dollars an hour for a babysitter to take her somewhere.
11:25In the office?
11:26No.
11:26Just out of the house.
11:27Go.
11:28She.
11:29Go.
11:29She was fine.
11:30Go somewhere.
11:30I put on Coco Menden Yane and she was good.
11:33Nobody knows what that is.
11:34It's Coco Melon Lane.
11:35Her L's are wise.
11:37And what's fine.
11:37Nobody knows what it is.
11:38Even when you pronounce it correctly.
11:39If you have a kid under four, you are fully aware of Coco Melon Lane.
11:44It's a great day on Coco Melon Lane.
11:48And it's so nice to see you and me.
11:53All right.
