00:00Should we do one more
00:01Shang-Goon
00:03arms fully up with palms up?
00:06Should we do that and run around the room?
00:08Dude, he looks like a giraffe.
00:10Well, and he's got that little black eye too,
00:12which is kind of adorable.
00:14And I know getting a black eye is not that fun,
00:16but he's got that little mouse
00:18under his eye.
00:19And every time he goes up, and Draymond
00:21jumps straight up, legal,
00:24and denies him,
00:25Shang-Goon goes full on.
00:27Arms straight up in the air.
00:29And bounces down to the other end of the floor.
00:31The Turkish tantrum.
00:32I like that.
00:33I'm about done with it.
00:36I mean, just 10 seconds on Shang-Goon?
00:38Go for it.
00:39Phenomenal.
00:40He's just so good.
00:41He's a really good player.
00:42Really good.
00:43However, one other lasting image for me,
00:45and then we're going to go to the phones.
00:47We see you starting to line up.
00:488-8-9-5-7-9-5-70.
00:50What's your Game 7 story?
00:52Look back on the series.
00:54What's your takeaway?
00:558-8-9-5-7-9-5-70.
00:57We know that Steph Curry is the petty king,
01:01and if anybody thinks that that outfit that he wore in the press conference yesterday
01:07was not a direct shot across the bow of the Houston Rockets,
01:12I think, respectfully, I think you're wrong.
01:14With the sunglasses?
01:15Go back to the Game 6 press conference for the Rockets,
01:21and look at the way Dylan Brooks,
01:23and I learned this because I got stuck sitting next to Rocket fans on Friday night.
01:28Oh, wow.
01:29Shang-Goon is called Alpy.
01:31Yeah.
01:31That's what we call him in Houston.
01:33Let's go, Alpy!
01:35I'm like, oh my God, you just made him even more annoying.
01:38But anyway, their press conference,
01:41these two dudes sat up there with none of the buttons buttoned on their shirt,
01:47chains everywhere,
01:49and bright I'm going clubbing in Miami shades,
01:53which, hey, do you.
01:54Dress however the hell you want.
01:57But I've watched enough Steph Curry press conferences
01:59to know that that's not usually the way Steph rolls,
02:02but he did yesterday,
02:04and put me on the side of the fence of
02:06that was a direct, direct shot at the Rockets.
02:11Well, have we ever seen him wear sunglasses in a press conference before?
02:15Pretty rare.
02:16Very rare.
02:16If ever.
02:17Right.
02:17Yeah.
02:17Right.
02:18So, yeah, direct shot, no doubt,
02:20and he did it in their press room.
02:22I know they have different press rooms for each team,
02:24but, yeah, he's the petty king for a reason.
02:27Love it.
02:28Absolutely love it.
02:28All right.
02:29Let's go out to Jonathan in the city to lead us off.
02:33Hi, Jonathan.
02:33Thanks for calling.
02:36Hey, thanks for taking that phone call.
02:39Man, what a game.
02:40I honestly thought they wouldn't have the legs.
02:43I mean, I didn't doubt that they have that in the bag,
02:46but I didn't think they were going to have the energy and the legs
02:48to do what they need to do.
02:50First, I want to highlight number seven for game seven.
02:53That's a very important number.
02:56Only sad turnovers, man.
02:57They don't get it done by, you know,
02:59by not having a clean game, almost clean game.
03:03That was superb.
03:04And number two, I want to highlight Mr. Reliable.
03:08Just always ready, Kevon Looney.
03:11He was big time in the middle.
03:13He defended Shane Goon two or three times.
03:17You know, he didn't let Shane Goon back him down to get it to his sweet spot.
03:21Shane Goon shot two or three times,
03:23and he hit the front of the rim instead of a bucket.
03:26And also, he neutralized the, you know,
03:30what was beginning to look like a very dense black hole.
03:34You know, Kevon Looney was like that cork that plugged that hole.
03:37All of a sudden, he was a non-factor in the middle.
03:39Thank you, Kevon Looney, for another superb performance when you were called upon.
03:46And also, last but not the least, what a game for the ages.
03:51This guy stamped himself in the, you know, Golden State Warriors history books.
03:5733 points.
03:58What an efficient night.
04:00He was a total sniper.
04:0212 out of 15.
04:039 beyond the arc.
04:04And he'll be forever known as Game 7.
04:09Hey, buddy!
04:13Thank you, Jonathan.
04:17Hey, buddy!
04:19Oh, my gosh.
04:21What an unbelievable performance.
04:24Only two players have ever made more threes in a playoff game than Buddy Heald.
04:29Only two players have ever made more threes in a playoff game than Buddy Heald.
04:32And I'll give you a clue.
04:33One of them is not Steph Curry.
04:35Right.
04:35One of them is Klay Thompson.
04:37Correct.
04:38And the other one did it twice.
04:40The other one did it twice?
04:41Yep.
04:41Can you give me like a somewhat general recency statement?
04:45He's still playing.
04:46Oh, he's still playing.
04:47Yeah.
04:48And his nickname is Currency.
04:52Currency?
04:54Currency!
04:55Um, I, uh, I don't, I don't know the person who has Currency as their nickname.
05:03Grandy?
05:03I don't know this one.
05:04Who is that?
05:05Grandy knows.
05:06Grandy, who is it?
05:08Are you talking about Dame Dollar?
05:10Cha-ching!
05:12I've never heard him called Currency.
05:14Dame Dollar.
05:15Dollar is Currency.
05:16Oh, I thought you were saying his nickname is Currency.
05:18I took that as his nickname.
05:21But listen to me.
05:21Hear it a different way.
05:22Steph Currency?
05:23His nickname is Currency.
05:25So I thought his nickname was Currency.
05:28I'm like, I don't know who that is.
05:29Like, if his nickname was Euro, that's also Currency.
05:32I get what you're saying now.
05:33If his nickname was Drachma, that's Currency.
05:36But would you acknowledge the way that I heard it?
05:38I don't acknowledge it.
05:38It's like, yeah.
05:39And who would have felt better if you would have buzzed him first before I gave you the
05:42ding, but.
05:42You also said one of them is not Steph, so I thought maybe the other one was Steph.
05:46That's another good point.
05:49I think you need to work on your delivery.
05:51I think you both need to, and I won't say it, but you know where I'm going.
05:56You could have said neither of them are Steph.
05:58Yeah, that would have been a little more clear.
05:59What about this?
06:00Most made threes in a game seven ever?
06:03Buddy holds that record now with who?
06:05Oh, it's tied.
06:06Someone else had nine.
06:08Happened in the playoffs last year.
06:10Oh, I was going to guess Ray Allen, but that's not last year.
06:14It happened in the playoffs last year?
06:16Yep.
06:17Ooh, that's a fun one.
06:20It happened in the playoffs.
06:21Thank you, Lucas.
06:23Give him a clue.
06:26Jamal Murray.
06:27Is it Jamal Murray?
06:28No.
06:28The clue I will give you is he's a former warrior.
06:30He's a former warrior.
06:32Ian Clark.
06:34I mean, Lucas.
06:37Ty Jerome.
06:37No, it's not Ty Jerome.
06:40He's a former warrior.
06:43Playoffs last year.
06:45Good Lord.
06:47It's got to be restaurant quality.
06:50Is it?
06:51Dante DiVincenzo.
06:51Good guess.
06:52There it is.
06:53Dante DiVincenzo.
06:55I love Dante DiVincenzo, so I'm going to have to do some work by tomorrow night to get
06:59out of my love with Dante DiVincenzo.
07:01Well.
07:02I'm going to have to leave that.
07:03I'm going to have to leave that at the front door.
07:04Tomorrow we can do the full Minnesota deep dive, and I've been fighting it all day, like
07:09trying to not get too far down the road of, oh my God, Minnesota prediction series, game
07:14one, this, that.
07:16Right now I'm still in the mode of yesterday was everything that you want in sports and
07:21more.
07:21It was absolute amazing, and the fact that it was Buddy Heald who came out and did what
07:27he did, that to me is like sports in a nutshell.
07:31I don't know if it's Cody Ross or if it's like what the comp is for a player of that ilk,
07:38and it's not to disrespect Buddy Heald, but he's not Lincecum or Kane or Bumgarner.
07:44No.
07:44This was like, oh my God, that guy did that thing.
07:48I like your comp.
07:48It's not even Pablo.
07:49No, I like your comp.
07:51Yeah, it is kind of a Cody Ross type of a thing where it'll go down in the ages of something.
07:58Actually, you want to know who the best comp I heard?
08:00Someone hit me and said that this was Barry Zito, Barry Zito's performance for the Giants.
08:07And the only difference is Buddy does not make $126 million.
08:12And he was the Cy Young Award winner.
08:13Right, but he was very disappointing.
08:16His whole career with the Giants was very disappointing.
08:19And then one game, everyone's like, never mind.
08:22We forgive you for everything.
08:24Yeah, that's good.
08:24So from that perspective, this is different because it was only one year and he's not a
08:28huge free agent contract and all that.
08:30But yeah, that was the all is forgiven game for Buddy Heald for me.
08:34No doubt.
08:34100%.
08:35No doubt.
08:35And not that he needed to be forgiven.
08:37Exactly.
08:37Because he was brought in to basically be this, which is, oh my God, you're amazing.
08:42Oh, stop shooting.
08:43Oh, wait, you're great again.
08:44Oh, please take him out.
08:46And then you watch that game and, you know, Steph Curry was being strangled and Jimmy Butler
08:51was kind of laying in the weeds and Draymond Green was like shooting all the time.
08:54It's like, yeah, Draymond.
08:56No, Draymond.
08:57And the rest of the bit players were like, oh my God, game seven.
09:00I can't do this.
09:03And then Buddy's like, pop, pop, pop.
09:05Yeah, but the Rockets were largely like that as well.
09:09I thought Thompson was just brilliant.
09:13Amazing, yeah.
09:13He is brilliant.
09:15And I thought, you know, Shingun is a very, very good player and he's doing things closer
09:19to the basket.
09:20Jalen Green is, I think, is going to go through an offseason that's similar to what Jonathan
09:28Kaminga has experienced here last offseason.
09:31And that's not a shot at Jalen, but there's going to be a lot of debate.
09:37And Jalen is going to be the one that many Houston fans decide that's who we need to use
09:43as trade bait to go get a veteran who can come in here and be the leading scorer and get
09:49us over the top.
09:50Like, I think you're going to see a lot of rumors about Jalen Green and a couple other
09:55pieces and a couple draft picks for Kevin Durant.
09:58I think you're going to see that all for the whole month of June until we get to July.
10:03For sure.
10:03And I mean, the Warriors could have done that with Kaminga had they signed him because Jalen
10:08Green signed for three years in 106, which means his $38 million a year contract becomes
10:14attractive as a piece that you can get back.
10:17You can get a player back for that much money.
10:20And I don't want to get too far into the Kaminga offseason question, but like that contract
10:25in a sign and trade is not going to be as big as the Jalen Green one.
10:29No, no question about it.
10:30No, the Kaminga one, that's a complex situation that's developing because he's not playing
10:35very much.
10:36But yeah, that's that's for a different day.
10:38David in the city here on Willard and Dibs.
10:40Hi, David.
10:41What's going on?
10:42Oh, nothing much to wait in here.
10:45Glad to be on.
10:46And yeah, I approached this game.
10:49I'm 82 years old and I've been I've been a native of San Francisco.
10:54So I've been with the Warriors since they arrived here in 62.
10:58So I've seen a lot.
11:00And I have to be honest that last night I was pretty pessimistic before the game.
11:06Partly partly partly because the Warrior wins seem to be narrow wins, whereas the Houston
11:13wins seem they seem to be significantly stronger.
11:18Now, I in a way, I know this may be a little bit sick, but if they were going to lose last
11:25night, I was almost, you know, I would almost feel, well, at least they won't have to have
11:31Buddy Heal next year.
11:33Probably.
11:33I mean, the guy didn't score a point in two of the games.
11:39And then all of a sudden, you know, after, you know, he gets on the floor here and I
11:46have to confess that after the fifth three pointer went in, I had the sense maybe that
11:52somebody had slipped me some LSD and I was just hallucinating.
11:58Hallucinating?
11:59Yeah.
12:00Buddy.
12:01You know what that is.
12:01But he kept doing it.
12:03And so what can I say?
12:05I'll give you another week, Buddy, at least.
12:10I'm giving him more than another week.
12:12David, did you know that Buddy Heald, if he wants to be, is under contract with the Warriors
12:17for three more years after this one?
12:19If he wants to be, what if the Warriors...
12:23In other words, he's under contract for two more years and then there's a player option
12:28for the third year at $10 million.
12:31So I'd get ready for more Buddy if I were you, David.
12:36Well, I don't have much choice, do I?
12:39No, no, you don't.
12:40You don't.
12:41David, thank you so much for calling.
12:43That was a fun conversation.
12:46Listen, I do want to say this, though.
12:49I don't want this conversation to head into a spot where it sounds like Buddy was great
12:53last night, but he was crap for the rest of the series.
12:56That's not true.
12:57No.
12:57That's not true.
12:58Yes, he had a couple games and this is the Buddy Heald experience.
13:01You go out there.
13:02Right, right.
13:02You know this.
13:03Steve puts him out there.
13:03If he misses his first two or three shots, okay, maybe it's not your night.
13:07Let's go with someone else.
13:08That's game one and game two.
13:09But don't forget, we have a game where Steve Kerr already came out right after the game
13:13in the locker room and said Buddy Heald set the tone defensively.
13:18He was instrumental in game three with no Jimmy Butler in a game that the Warriors shockingly
13:25went out there and won.
13:26Look, I'm going to look back on this series, all things considered as a very good series
13:32for Buddy Heald.
13:33Absolutely.
13:34Very good.
13:35Well, it's very good because of game seven.
13:36Yes.
13:37But it wasn't embarrassing before that.
13:39No, but in four of the games, he scored 11 total points.
13:43Two, five, four, and zero.
13:45And in those games, they went one and three.
13:47And it's not to blame him, but you're right about Steve Kerr.
13:50Game one, two points, 15 minutes, it's not your night.
13:54Game two, five points, 15 minutes, it's not your night.
13:57Game five, four points, 18 minutes, it's not your night.
14:01Well, that was no one's night.
14:03Don't forget that.
14:04Game five was no one's night in a Warrior uniform.
14:07Game six, 0 for 4, 0 for 4, no points, 16 minutes, it's not your night.
14:12Right.
14:12Game seven, hey, you know what, Buddy?
14:14It's your night.
14:15It's your night.
14:15And that's the beauty of Buddy Heald.
14:17And we've talked about this a lot on our show.
14:19And if you look at his career and his game log, he played 84 games last year,
14:24which is mostly impossible.
14:26He played 82 this year.
14:28He's a guy who shows up, where are my sneakers, where's my uniform, and I'm going to do Buddy
14:33things.
14:34And if it's good Buddy, I play.
14:36And if it's bad Buddy, okay.
14:38I'm still going to be smiling on the bench.
14:40It's fine.
14:40I also think, I mean, as much as last night is the game that everyone will remember,
14:44last night did not have the shot that I will remember from Buddy Heald in this series.
14:49The shot that I will remember.
14:50Game four.
14:51Game four.
14:51Game four, bro.
14:52Shang-Goon in his face, falling away, three-point range, a shot, the classic no, no, no, yes
14:58shot, where you're like, that's not a good shot.
15:00That's not a good, it went in, that's a great shot.
15:02And it was at a huge moment.
15:05So, look, that's the life of a streaky three-point shooter.
15:09All I can ask for from Buddy Heald is keep taking good looks when they're open.
15:15And what we saw in this series was really good defensive effort.
15:20He's not going to be a great defender, but on nights, he did affect the game on the defensive
15:25end last night, too.
15:27He was good on both sides of the ball last night.
15:30So, if you're going to get that from Buddy Heald, I'm willing to ride the, I'm cold tonight,
15:35I missed shots tonight.
15:37Like, everybody's going to have those.
15:39Steph had those in this series.
15:41So, why wouldn't we ride that train with Buddy knowing that at least two or three times
15:46in a long series, you're going to get the opposite.
15:48I mean, the game's leading scorer last night in a game seven on the road.
15:53Holy crap!
15:55In game three at home, you talked about two or three times a series.
15:58Game three at home, he had 17 on 5 of 11 from deep, and that's what you want.
16:04He took no free throws in the series, which, I mean, honestly.
16:08Right, he's not.
16:08Did they even take a free throw last night?
16:10Nope.
16:10As a team?
16:11Nope, and I think.
16:12I mean, as a team, they only took like five or six.
16:14Buddy did not.
16:15But, and I think, Grandy, maybe you have this.
16:17I feel like Buddy set a record last night.
16:21It was something along the lines of first player in a game seven to score over 30 without
16:27a free throw.
16:27Right.
16:28It was something like that.
16:29I'll try to look it up.
16:31I didn't see that one.
16:32Yeah, I saw it last night.
16:33It was something along those lines.
16:35Most points scored in a game seven without a free throw.
16:3833 points with none from the free throw line.
16:41Right, and the team shot nine free throws.
16:44Wow.
16:44And, you know, a few of those were late when it was like desperation foul mode.
16:48Yeah.
16:48So, the fact that they were able to win that game in that way, and I thought that the
16:53whistle was very much like 1993, like, unless somebody's bleeding.
16:58Yeah, they let them play.
17:00But you'd expect that with the way they've officiated all of the playoffs, and then that
17:05this is a game seven.
17:06You knew it was going to be a let them play game, and I found myself, I would say, of
17:12all playoff games I've watched so far, I was the least affected and frustrated by the
17:18officiating last night of all of them.
17:20I thought that was the, it was the number one game of like, I didn't even notice the
17:25refs last night.
17:26Yeah, yeah.
17:27So, great.
17:28Great.
17:28They did a great job, I thought.
17:30They did a great job.
17:31Yeah, I mean, you could look at either end of the floor, and, you know, there was a couple
17:35of times where I was like, that's a foul.
17:36Well, always.
17:37Oh, I mean, there's never been a basketball game where you don't have that.
17:40Right, but it was both ends, and they called 14 fouls apiece.
17:43So, they didn't really call that many fouls.
17:45The average in the regular year was 38.
17:48They called 28 last night.
17:49So, I thought that there were a few where, and Shang-Goon, with that facial expression.
17:55Oh, the goons.
17:55He clashes into Draymond, and it's immediately like, you know, the Turkish.
18:01You know, there's so many guys who complain to refs now, and the Warriors have plenty of
18:06them too.
18:07The one thing that gets me, and this is Shang-Goon, this is Luka.
18:12There are certain players who complain on all of the plays.
18:19Oh, yeah.
18:19There are times where it's like, okay, and I'm just going to make up a scenario, but you
18:24have a teammate who hucks the ball five feet over your head into the fifth row, and he
18:29will turn and look at the refs and put his palms up.
18:32I'm like, I don't, what are you, what could you possibly even be saying in this moment?
18:37I cannot remember a possession where Shang-Goon did not at least flash a look at the ref after
18:44it was over.
18:45Every single time down.
18:49And I know in a seven-game series, you're always annoyed by the opponent.
18:52Believe you me, I felt the Houston audience when Draymond got fouled and then decided to
18:58use it as an opportunity to whack Van Vliet in the face, and everybody there, because they're
19:03sick of it.
19:04They're sick of Draymond.
19:06And we're sick of Shang-Goon.
19:09I'm sick of you.
19:10I'm sick of looking at your facial expressions.
19:13I'm sick of looking at your giraffe arms that are up when absolutely nothing happened.
19:18And I do get a little extra annoyed when it is a player like him or Luka, where I'm like,
19:24dude, James Harden, you guys are good players.
19:28You're good players.
19:29Just play.
19:30At least some of the time.
19:32I get it.
19:33You're going to talk to the refs.
19:34The Warriors have plenty of ref talkers, too.
19:36I get it.
19:37But can you take a play off every now and again with the whole ref thing when it's over?
19:43Just once in a while.
19:45I would love it.
19:46For everybody's sanity.
19:47Oh, yeah?
19:47And so you were saying that Draymond has six techs?
19:50I thought he did.
19:51Didn't he have one in every game?
19:52I thought it might have been five.
19:54But the bigger issue is as we get deeper into Minnesota, and one of his dance partners is
20:02going to be in the series.
20:03The Goebel.
20:03Yeah, right.
20:04And he may want to do a little bit of a slow dance.
20:06Ho, ho, ho.
20:07He'll say hi to him tomorrow night.
20:08I'm sure.
20:09Yeah.
20:09So, and I'll get that for you.
20:11You go to the phones, and I'll give you the exact number on when you get suspended in
20:15the offs.
20:15My memory says that Draymond got one tech in all the games, game two through seven.
20:21I might be wrong.
20:22You're probably playing the percentages.
20:24I thought he got one in every game.
20:26He did not get one in game one.
20:28But I thought he got one in every game after that.
20:30And last night, he got one where I thought that that would have been a flagrant, because
20:33he just, like, hauled off and elbowed a guy in the face.
20:36But that's a tech, because it happened after a foul?
20:39Well, okay.
20:40That was one of those where you, and I know what Draymond was trying to say.
20:44Right.
20:44His arms are in a forward motion, because he's trying to pass a ball.
20:48And Van Vliet hits him on the wrist.
20:49Well, his arms are already in a forward motion, and that's where he clips Van Vliet.
20:54Now, upon replay, you're like, well, he kind of embellished that a little bit, which is
21:02what Draymond does.
21:04It's what he does.
21:05I thought that was accurately called.
21:06It was still a foul on Van Vliet, but it was also an action that needed to be addressed
21:10by Draymond.
21:11I thought that was fair.
