The Hartlepool Mail's Robbie Stelling reacts to Monday's final day draw with Forest Green Rovers.
Transcript
00:01I'm here at the Prestige Group Stadium where Hartnepoel United have brought the curtain down on another challenging season following a 1-1 draw.
00:08With Forest Green Rovers, in truth, Monday's match was probably a meeting both the sides could have done without.
00:14Pools were languishing in mid-table and of course all eyes are on what happens off the pitch as the ongoing takeover saga continues to rumble on.
00:23For Forest Green, they were guaranteed to finish third even prior to kick-off this afternoon.
00:28Green, as they bid to bounce back to the Football League at the first time of asking, their playoff campaign begins on the 20th of May.
00:37Pools gave a pretty good account of themselves, especially in the first half.
00:41It certainly wasn't a classic game and it was a little bit tepid with a bit of an end-of-season feel to it.
00:46Nonetheless, the home side tried to play high up the pitch and get in Forest Green's faces, creating a number of half chances after winning the ball in Forest Green's own half.
00:54Nathan Sharon went close after regaining possession, driving forward and blasting over the bar, leaning back.
01:00But Pools were rewarded for a decent enough first-off performance when David Ferguson fired them in front eight minutes before the break after good work from Reyes Cleary.
01:09Pools looked set to hold on to a final day three points when substitute Christian Doidge denied them in the 89th minute, heading home from close range after Joe Quigley's initial knock-on.
01:19It was perhaps a game that summed up Pools' season some promise, plenty of hard work and effort, but perhaps not enough quality.
01:28It's been a genuinely challenging campaign on and off the pitch.
01:31Pools have underperformed, although three different managers, an ongoing off-field uncertainty certainly hasn't helped.
01:37The next few weeks promise to be crucial for the future of Hartlepool United.
01:41We'll see you next time.
