When the "Alien: Romulus" release date arrives it will be the first piece of the "Alien" franchise to be released since Disney purchased Fox. The hope is high, both for the fans and the studio, that the movie will be a return to form. The "Alien: Romulus" trailers certainly look like the movie is a true successor to the horror of Ridley Scott’s original "Alien" and Scott himself has praised the film, but it turns out that he isn’t the only former "Alien" franchise director that Fede Álvarez talked to about his new movie.

The director of "Alien: Romulu" Fede Álvarez stopped by CinemaBlend’s suite during San Diego Comic-Con where he spoke about just how much support he got from "Aliens" director James Cameron. Apparently, the two directors became pen pals thanks to actor Stephen Lang, who starred in Álvarez's "Don’t Breathe" and is also in the "Avatar" franchise cast.

00:00I loved your conversation with Sir Ridley, the ability to sort of pick his brain about the franchise.
00:06Have you had that opportunity with James Cameron, and how much of Cameron's DNA is in Romulus?
00:09Yeah, yeah, at the very beginning, when I was starting to jump into the script,
00:14we needed to know some things about Aliens, specifically.
00:18And I had met Cameron a few years before, because Stephen Lang,
00:22there was an old breed, showed the movie to Cameron.
00:24Cameron loved the movie, he invited me to the set of Avatar 2,
00:28and we became pen pals.
00:30And then, so then when this came about, I wrote to him, like,
00:33hey, I have a question about Aliens.
00:35And he was like, oh, let's talk all about it.
00:37And we did like a two-hour Zoom call, just talking.
00:41First, the first hour probably talking about Aliens, his experience of making Aliens,
00:44what he learned about dealing with the Xenomorph.
00:47And then another hour just like brainstorming about what our movie was going to be,
00:52and how to make it better.
00:53So he was great, amazing.
00:55Like, he devoted so much time for us.
00:57And then he also watched the cut when it was ready,
00:59and gave his feedback on it.
01:00So he's been super supportive,
01:02and a total privilege to have someone like Cameron giving us his time,
01:07and helping us to make this movie better.
