00:00 "Rodder." We're getting a first look at Alien Romulus, the next project in the Alien film
00:06 franchise. Disney finally pulled back the curtain on the interquel, releasing a terrifying 62-second
00:12 teaser trailer that re-establishes the look and feel of the franchise's classics. Filmmaker Fede
00:17 Alvarez's new film takes place between Ridley Scott's Alien in 1979 and James Cameron's Aliens
00:24 in 1986. The story focuses on a group of 20-something space colonizers and scavengers
00:30 who have the misfortune of meeting a xenomorph inside a space station. The film has a notably
00:35 young cast that's led by Kaylee Spaney and Isabella Merced. Alvarez tells The Hollywood
00:40 Reporter that the idea to follow younger people in this world came from an Aliens deleted scene
00:45 that Cameron eventually restored in his extended special edition cut. "There's a moment where you
00:50 see a bunch of kids running and riding a big wheel around the corridors of this colony,
00:54 and I thought, 'Wow, what would it be like for those kids to grow up in a colony that still
00:57 needs another 50 years to terraform?'" The eighth film in the Alien franchise was originally slated
01:03 to be a Hulu release, but Alvarez said the studio wisely shifted to theatrical at the start of
01:08 principal photography. The film even has Ridley Scott's seal of approval. Alvarez has previously
01:13 noted, "He walks into the room and he did say, 'Fede, what can I say? It's f---ing great.'"
01:18 The Alien sequel is slated to release on August 16, 2024. To watch the full trailer, head to THR.com.
