00:00Meanwhile, the need to win and gain political power is so great, candidates in the country's democratic exercises will steal, cheat, or try to gain as much leverage against their rivals or opponents.
00:12And there is no better shortcut in getting a win in elections than buying people's votes.
00:17Our Luisa Erispe has more on roughly 400 complaints filed with the poll body which have to be resolved before next week's Hatol ng Bayan as our Luisa Erispe reports.
00:32With just one week before Election Day, the Commission on Elections or COMELEC said they are on track with the preparations for May 12.
00:41As a matter of fact, they are actually on the last steps of preparations which are the final testing and sealing and the deployment of the automated counting machines which is now 98% complete.

01:14Tomorrow, the poll body will also start a distribution of the last batch of ballots to be deployed within Metro Manila.
01:21This is the proof that the poll body is almost all systems go before the elections.
01:27However, while preparing for Election Day, COMELEC is being swarmed up by petitions for disqualifications
01:33given that there are only five days left in the campaign period.
01:37According to COMELEC Chair Garcia, they have received about 400 vote-buying cases with regards to the 2025 midterm elections
01:45and this may increase until next week.
01:48They will not be able to resolve the cases before the voting starts.
01:51COMELEC has the option to not proclaim a winner.

02:16One of the newest petitions received by the commission was against a congressional candidate from Benguet
02:21who allegedly used a government vehicle.
02:24Based on the pictures, the vehicle used stickers to hide markings as well as the red plate of the SUV.
02:31This may fall under abuse of state resources given that the candidate is an incumbent vice-governor
02:37named Erickson Taguil Felipe.
02:39In his statement, he said he has yet to receive the official copy of the petition.
02:44But for COMELEC Chair Garcia, if proven true, such act may be grounds for disqualification.
03:09Other petitions filed before the COMELEC today is a disqualification case against 4th District
03:15Congressional Candidate in Laguna for alleged vote-buying.
03:19And the other one is a withdrawal of a petition filed against a congressional candidate from the 2nd District of Laguna.
