00:00To ensure the rights and welfare of teachers who will serve as poll workers in the upcoming midterm elections,

00:05the Department of Education or DepEd will establish the DepEd Election Task Force,

00:10which will be mobilized nationwide to provide real-time monitoring, assistance, and incident response during the elections.

00:17PTV correspondent Kenneth Paschente has the full report.

00:22To ensure an orderly, safe, and fair elections in the country,

00:26the Department of Education or DepEd has issued Memorandum No. 37,

00:31which mandates the creation of the 2025 DepEd Election Task Force or ETF.

00:36As part of DepEd's mandate under the Election Service Reform Act,

00:39public school teachers are designated as members of the Electoral Board.

00:43Their participation comes with corresponding compensation and legal protection.

00:48Furthermore, the memo specifies the funds allocated for ETF operations this year.

00:52The new task force will operate at three levels, central office, regional offices, and schools division offices.

00:59Each level will have its own ETF operations center focused on real-time monitoring, assistance, and legal support.

01:06At the central office, the task force will be composed of a steering committee, technical working group, and support teams.

01:14DepEd's main election command center will be set up in Makati,

01:17operating from 1 p.m. on May 11 to 5 p.m. on May 13.

01:21The memo also clarifies that ETF members may choose to receive honoraria,

01:26claim overtime pay, or avail of compensatory time off.

01:31DepEd officials and personnel are strictly reminded to refrain from electioneering

01:34or campaign activities in order to maintain the integrity

01:37and nonpartisan role of the department during the election period.

01:41The department also reassured the public that the welfare of teachers serving in the upcoming elections will be protected.

01:47Under the memorandum of agreement between DepEd, the Commission on Elections,

01:52the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, and other agencies,

01:56legal and medical assistance will be provided to teachers and personnel assigned to render election service.

02:02This also strengthens interagency coordination to ensure their safety and welfare.

02:07The Integrated Bar of the Philippines, or IBP, has also committed to provide legal assistance to teachers

02:12who may face complaints in connection with their election duties.
