Christopher Jones, 37, began learning to grow veg in his back garden during lockdown. He ended up donating thousands of food items to needy strangers in his local area of Halton, Cheshire.

00:00definitely not the weather for today it's raining it's miserable the onions are coming up well
00:08i was transplanted the other day and today i've got some garlic for this bed so i'm gonna crack
00:16on with that now guys just got the garlic out the car um this was planted just over a week ago
00:24some of it was just over a week ago some of it is about a week now um
00:30oh yeah let's get these in the ground
00:36one of the gloves out first
00:39we feel the one free so we've got a hand
00:47so they just come out like a plug like that
00:53put the soil back around it
00:54i'm not too worried about the spacing for this because
01:15yeah i've got a few more planted
01:27so this absolute plant pot here forgot to do the ending of the video that i just started
01:34so i'll just make this just to end the video i managed to plant 84 garlics into the bed
01:39um and pretty much the hardest part of that was um filling the pot popping the garlic and waiting a
01:47week and putting them in the bed and now the rest you just leave no need to do anything with it just
01:53leave it alone until it's ready to harvest do also want to add i am coming live christmas day
02:01uh in the morning just in case anyone is on their own and alone um so i'm gonna have a little bit of
02:07music in the greenhouse just somewhere where people can connect in the comments um and just
02:13you know have someone around to talk to when you're putting a post up every day uh just to remind
02:19people that i have will be live on christmas day so when you see the post please do us a favor repost
02:26them share with people um it's not a case of trying to get more likes and more views on my videos
02:32it's just trying to give someone and get people to know that i'll be there christmas morning so
02:38they can wake up to me in the greenhouse um with a bit of music chilled vibes and someone to talk to
02:44calling to all the parents out there if you can do one thing this year for your kids this year coming
02:522025 buy a pack of seeds buy a bit of compost and encourage your kids to grow their own food

03:08your children but homegrown food not only tastes better it's not any more beneficial for you
03:18it's just amazing to get the kids involved with not just the kids buy yourself a packet of seeds
03:26buy yourself some little pots small plant pots pennies buy yourself some compost
03:34get growing hard this is garlic that was planted last week this is garlic that was planted five days ago
03:42when i put that in the ground and leave it over winter an abundance of garlic cabbage
03:51again put that in the ground over winter have nice fresh cabbages for late spring
04:04onions pop them in a tray put them in your windowsill or whatever get them germinated get them in the
04:11ground or get them in a pot fresh onions doesn't cost a lot to grow your own food
04:17it's good it's good for the mental health it's good for your physical health and it's good all round
