00:00Good evening, Nouvelle. Good evening, Rayyutube.
00:01Gentlemen, you both know the rules.
00:03Obey my command to protect yourself at all times.
00:05Touch close now. Come on, fighting at the bell.
00:07Ah, okay.
00:13Tsutsumi, obviously strong young athlete, looks good in there.
00:19And Whittington's record of 1, 2, and 1
00:23against a novice fighter fighting his first professional fight
00:27suggests that he has been carefully chosen.
00:30As potential cannon fodder for Tsutsumi.
00:33But he came in with a lot of confidence,
00:36the way he was moving around, approaching the ring.
00:38The song, I was wondering, was that his rap song?
00:40That's 1 and 2?
00:42You don't supposed to show that much confidence.
00:44And we see His Excellency Turkey Alice Sheik standing up here.
00:47He has handpicked Rachel Tsutsumi as a ring magazine ambassador,
00:52and he said he sees him as the next big star.
00:56But Whittington coming to fight,
00:58you see he's not really intimidated.
01:00He's standing there firing back.
01:02And he has already weathered a couple of very strong body shots
01:07from Tsutsumi early in the fight.
01:09Tsutsumi goes to the body with either hand.
01:12We've seen that already.
01:13There's a right hand to the body with an uppercut and a left cross.
01:18What's already standing out to me, Jim, is the calf muscles on Rato.
01:24That usually shows you that he's a pat puncher.
01:26And Manny Pacquiao, of course, had monster calves.
01:29It comes from the legs.
01:35Well, I'll tell you, normally when you get a guy and you're building this record,
01:39you put him in there with guys that we know he's going to knock out in one or two rounds.
01:43But I don't think this is the type of guy.
01:45He's going to have to work for this in earnest because Whittington has some determination here.
01:49Whittington clearly not intimidated by Tsutsumi's reputation.
02:04Maybe he doesn't even know.
02:07I'm so impressed already by the way Tsutsumi throws compact punches.
02:12He certainly does not look like a guy making his pro debut.
02:19I agree. He looks polished.
02:23Left hand to the body there.
02:25Well thrown.
02:27Under the right hand.
02:29Perfect shot.
02:30And again, he's standing in his form.
02:32That's one thing we want to see young fighters do.
02:36You know, stay in their form.
02:37Don't have to get set to punch.
02:39He's looking beautiful.
02:40But he got a real fighter in front of him.
02:43Tsutsumi has a quick right hook.
02:46Just have an instinct already as he goes to the body
02:48with both the right and the left.
02:50But if he gets it and knock out here,
02:52the finish will come from that right hook.
02:55Yeah, Jim, this fight is scheduled for six rounds.
02:58But I heard that Tsutsumi was actually pushing to fight eight rounds.
03:01But they wouldn't let him do it for his pro debut in New York.
03:04And sometimes you've got to, you know what I mean,
03:06slow these young fighters down a little bit,
03:08even though the talent tells us that they should be on the fast track.
03:12But if he goes six, eight rounds, where does that go?
03:13You can't go back down.
03:14Well, if he wanted an eight-round fight instead of six,
03:18it indicates he wanted to maximize his chance
03:21for a knockout in this fight.
03:25We're in Times Square in New York City.
03:27We'll be back.
03:28Right now, I am in first gear.
03:41Would you like to see me shift to six?
03:45I used to respect your family.
03:47You have power.
03:48I now look at you.
03:51Put a bullet in his hat.
03:52I hope you get my name.
04:00Tell yourself.
04:01Mobland, new original series.
04:03Streaming only on Paramount Plus.
04:05From $4.99 a month.
04:10Wave your hands, everybody at home.
04:12Let the Times Square crowd see you.
04:15They're waving at you.
04:17And waving at our cameras to make clear
04:19that they are here and excited
04:22for this unique and unprecedented boxing event.
04:28Crossroads of the world.
04:30New York's Times Square.
04:32Crossroads of boxing tonight.
04:33Round two of scheduled six
04:35between Tsutsumi,
04:37the celebrated Japanese prospect,
04:40and Whittington,
04:41the chosen opponent for his first professional fight.
04:43I've got to say,
04:46despite his record,
04:48as Antonio said,
04:49Whittington certainly does not look like
04:50the typical opponent for a per debut.
04:55Unless they really want to find out
04:57what they got ahead.
04:58And I think we're realizing that right now.
05:00He's tough.
05:04Ooh.
05:06For a fighter with a one-two-and-one record,
05:09Whittington does have
05:10the full package of punches.
05:11He throws a good jab.
05:14He throws uppercuts.
05:15He throws body shots.
05:17It's a good test
05:18in the first fight
05:19of Tsutsumi's professional career.
05:21He looks a little bit more skilled
05:23than a one-and-two fighter.
05:24He has great punch placement.
05:27Great punch placement.
05:28Matchmaking is everything.
05:29Yes.
05:30At every level of the sport.
05:32Tsutsumi now fainting a lot.
05:34I mean, this guy has definitely
05:35advanced beyond his years.
05:37He's trying to open up Whittington,
05:38and I love the lead left uppercut
05:41that he's throwing.
05:42And what Tsutsumi needs to be doing right now
05:44is thinking his way through this.
05:45You feel me?
05:46Don't just physically try to blow this guy out.
05:54Guys, we're going to get a comment here
05:55from Mike Tyson,
05:56who's seen something interesting.
05:58What's up, Mike?
05:59Hey, Jim.
06:00How you doing, man?
06:01This is a very exciting fight, huh?
06:02It's a very exciting fight.
06:04I totally agree.
06:06Man, both of these guys are going at it.
06:08This guy doesn't look like he doesn't fight
06:10like his record illustrates, huh?
06:14Mike, can you remember your first professional fight?
06:17Did you have butterflies?
06:18Yes, I did.
06:19I had butterflies, Fort Hector, Mercedes,
06:22first-round knockout,
06:23Albany, New York.
06:24Oh, wow, look at that.
06:32Left-hand by Tsutsumi.
06:34Wow.
06:35It was a matter of time.
06:37He was going to land with some kind of clean shot
06:39along the way.
06:41And now let's see if he's got a finishing package.
06:44I would like to see him throw combinations.
06:45He's throwing one punch at a time.
06:47If he put those punches together,
06:49he can get the results he's looking for.
06:51Combination shots right here.
06:52Man, and Rezo does such a great job
06:55of throwing punches around the guard.
06:57He's looping those shots.
06:58He's got good punch placement.
07:00Like I said, I love to see him throw combinations.
07:11All right.
07:11The action settles down a little bit.
07:13Mike Tyson, I will never forget.
07:16I'll remember it my whole life.
07:18The first fight I ever called on television
07:20was your knockout of Jesse Ferguson.
07:22in upstate New York.
07:24You remember that?
07:25Yeah, I remember that.
07:27You shattered his nose with an uppercut.
07:30Yeah, man, that was the days, man.
07:32That was the days.
07:33And you explained to us afterward
07:35that the purpose of the uppercut
07:36was to drive the nose bone into the brain.
07:38Yeah, my dark side came out back then again.
07:41Great to have you with us, champ.
07:44Thank you so much, Jimmy.
07:44Thank you very much.
07:45Love you.
07:46And now let's take a look at the Tsutsumi left hand
07:49that rocked Whittington in that round.
07:51Oh, that was just a timed counter shot
07:56right over a lazy right hand.
07:57Love it.
08:00Boom.
08:03Honestly, I think referee Charlie Fitch there
08:05would have been within his right to call a knockdown.
08:08The rope seems to hold him up.
08:09I wouldn't go that far.
08:11No, no.
08:19Well, like Mike Tyson was saying,
08:20one and two,
08:21they should have checked to see who this guy fought.
08:23Who beat him?
08:27Well, I think we're all agreed on that point
08:29that he's shown more than we expected
08:31from a guy with a one, two, and one record.
08:33But again, I make the same point.
08:35Matchmaking is everything,
08:36particularly early in your career.
08:38If you have a skilled matchmaker,
08:40you wind up facing people you can beat.
08:45It's not really unfair.
08:47It's just a way of making careers go the right way.
08:51So that's what's at stake here for Tsutsumi.
08:55I think the record was the right guy,
08:57but I think this guy is just a little bit more tougher
08:59than they had inspected.
09:02Well, I think that's ideal, too.
09:03You know, if you go in and knock a guy out easily,
09:06what have you learned, right?
09:07Oh, he's definitely going to become
09:08a better fighter from this.
09:10But it's more than one way to skin a cat.
09:12He should try boxing.
09:14Be the counterpuncher now.
09:15Right!
09:23Right!
09:26Push!
09:28Push!
09:29Push!
09:32Reto is certainly landing those right hooks.
09:33That seems to be his favorite punch, yeah?
09:35He looks much better throwing combinations.
09:37We know he has the punch power.
09:41But again, the combination gets it done.
09:44Just like that right hand he landed early,
09:45it wasn't forced.
09:47I've always been a fan of the hook from either side
09:50because I believe the hook
09:52is the harder punch to see coming.
09:55A right cross, you can see it.
09:57You can gauge it.
09:58A left cross from a southpaw, same thing.
10:00Yeah, they land with maximum power.
10:03But you get a chance to sort of brace yourself for that.
10:06You don't get to brace yourself for the great quick hooks.
10:09Winnington just, oh, that's, that heard him.
10:11That heard him on top of the temple.
10:12And I love the way Tsutsumi goes to the body
10:17when he thinks he has his man hurt.
10:20Beautiful.
10:25One minute to go
10:26in what might be shaping up
10:28as a textbook third-round finish
10:29for Reto Tsutsumi.
10:34I think Tsutsumi can get him out of here.
10:35He's just going to have to put those punches in volumes.
10:38Gathering his energy again,
10:39stepping forward again,
10:41firing to the body.
10:42Oh, good left-hand shot by Whittington.
10:47Let's stop the momentum for a moment.
10:51Oh, good body shot, body shot.
10:58And that's another good answer
10:59to a guy who is waking you over the coals.
11:02Get him to the body.
11:07Whittington doing a better job now.
11:09He's starting to push the fight
11:10into the center of the ring.
11:11Highly entertaining fight.
11:19Round three of a Schedule 6 comes to a close.
11:22Let's go to Kate Scott
11:24for further programming on DAZN.
11:27Yeah, thank you, Jim.
11:28It's been an incredible week already on DAZN,
11:30and the high-stakes action continues tomorrow night.
11:33The face of boxing, Canelo Alvarez faces undefeated IBF champion William Scull
11:38for the undisputed super middleweight title.
11:41It is available for purchase right now on DAZN.
11:44Jim?
11:44Tremendous crowd in Times Square, no telling how many there are.
11:54What does it matter?
11:55It's all about the energy and the spontaneity and the uniqueness of a first-time situation
12:03for boxing in New York City.
12:05And as I mentioned at the top of the show,
12:07some of the most unusual things ever happened in boxing
12:10happen when fights take place outdoors.
12:12This crowd is having a great time.
12:20Antonio, very quickly, how much do you know about William Scull?
12:24I've seen him on video.
12:27I tried to do his amateur background.
12:29I heard he was on the Olympic team, heard he had 300 more fights.
12:33I haven't seen, confirmed that.
12:35And when I saw him on video, he didn't pass the eye test for me.
12:40Didn't pass the eye test.
12:41We talked earlier about the importance of legs in boxing.
12:45To me, Canelo has the best legs in boxing.
12:48It's the heart of his punch resistance.
12:50It's the heart of his power.
12:51Most definitely.
12:52Woodington seems to be fighting with more confidence now after that big shot in the last rounds.
13:14Is that caught to extreme his attention?
13:17Well, let's assume he's going to have to give him some new wrinkles, some new angles,
13:21and just get it done differently.
13:23Combination punches, I think, like we just saw, the 1-2-1-2.
13:25I think that gets it done.
13:29Volume punch.
13:29Left to the body.
13:30Throw the left to the body and set up the right hook again.
13:33Good answer.
13:40Whittington comes back to the body himself.
13:44Excellent fight.
13:45For 1-2, Whittington looking real good, man.
13:47He looked like he got some sauce with him.
13:49Again, where are the two guys who beat him?
13:51Here's the right hook again, turning it over.
14:05This time, the up shoot.
14:08Tozumi is not changing the angle.
14:10He should, after he get those couple of shots like that, pick a side.
14:15Change the angle.
14:18He does throw punches in variety.
14:20He's mixing them.
14:23Well, I totally get your point, Antonio, about finding a different angle.
14:28Because he's standing right in front of Whittington the whole time.
14:31Exactly.
14:31And inviting the return.
14:33And that's experience.
14:34He'll learn that.
14:35Once he get in there and gets some more lessons, he'll learn that.
14:41And it doesn't have to be a big step to the side.
14:44It can just be six inches, right?
14:45Exactly.
14:50Excellent body shot.
14:59Right on the waistband.
15:01Another one.
15:01Time square.
15:15Time square.
15:15Time Square in New York.
15:33There's a look at the man who is on his own trying to bring boxing back to its previous stature.
15:41Maybe back to the 1920s when it was the number one sport in American culture.
15:47And, you know, if he can locate a Jack Dempsey, that would help.
15:50But at the end of the day, Turkey Al-Sheik is tremendously to be admired and credited for what he is doing to energize boxing.
16:00Yeah, and after this tonight, he's going to fly to Saudi Arabia for that Canelo Alvarez-Williams skull fight.
16:06And that's really the precursor, right, to Canelo Alvarez against Terrence Crawford.
16:11And how competitive do you guys think Terrence Crawford can be against Canelo Alvarez?
16:17I like Crawford. That's one of my favorite fighters.
16:20I mean, he's biting off a lot, but we'll see if he can chew it.
16:24Canelo is a tough, tough mountain to climb.
16:27Yeah, Crawford's a very—he's an excellent boxer. He's very tricky.
16:30He can keep the fight on the outside. He has a chance.
16:32But like Antonio said, he's moving up two weight classes.
16:34I think if you're looking for any competitor in boxing who has the most possible fire in the belly, that's Terrence Crawford.
16:42He wants to win as much as any fighter has ever wanted to win.
16:47And it shows in every fight.
16:49Yeah, and he's sitting to our right, right here, just feet away.
16:52And you're right, Jim.
16:52And I think Crawford needs those kind of challenges to get up at this stage of his career.
16:57That's why he's seeking the fight against Canelo.
17:00There are a lot of naysayers who, you know, think that that is an absurd proposition.
17:04Looked like Willington turned southpaw now.
17:06I don't know if that worked for him.
17:08That's how we want to see a young man throwing his hands, right there.
17:12And maybe picking an angle instead of standing right in front of him.
17:16Well, he's still not taking your advice of stepping over just six inches or so to one side or another.
17:23He's still standing basically in front of Willington.
17:26Well, let's hope he can go back and see this and maybe pick that up.
17:32Well, if he hears your commentary, he'll get it.
17:38Let's go.
17:42Experience of a lifetime for Raito Tsutsumi.
17:45First professional fight in Times Square in New York.
17:50Willington unfound a jab with that little southpaw stance.
17:54But that combination punching right there, that gets the job done.
18:00Body shot for Whittington.
18:03Tsutsumi comes back with a combination.
18:04Generally speaking, the Japanese fighter Tsutsumi has clearly landed more coherent combinations.
18:13But Whittington is stubborn, competitive, won't back down, and fires back as often as he can.
18:21That little slappy jab he got with the right hand is being a little effective.
18:24He's landed a couple of those from the southpaw stance just like that.
18:27That changes the angle when Whittington switches southpaw.
18:36He looked a little more fluent in southpaw stance.
18:40Whittington is a tough, tough fighter.
18:41I think there was a lot of opponents they could have picked, and I probably would have been out of there by now with the kind of leather he's landing.
18:46I agree.
18:48That uppercutter, get it done.
18:49If they wanted to pick an opponent who would be competitive, in fact, they've done a terrific job of that, for sure.
18:57This is an opponent who's competitive.
18:59He's not winning the fight, but he's making a mark on Tsutsumi in every round.
19:04Round five of the schedule, six.
19:11Closing seconds.
19:13Which fighter is closer to running out of gas?
19:16It's been a very energetic and active fight for both.
19:21Good body shot.
19:22And again, at the end of the round, you see the stubbornness of LaVale Whittington, who won't take no for an answer against a guy with tremendous skills.
19:39Tsutsumi said he wanted the knockout in his first fight, and he has one more round to get it.
19:43He's going to come after you with everything he's got to try to get the knockout to try to look good.
19:47You understand?
19:48You awake?
19:49Are you awake?
19:50Listen, motherfucking.
19:53There's only one way to win fights.
19:55And you know how you do that?
19:56You fight.
19:58You gotta fight.
20:00You understand?
20:01You don't win fights by getting on the fucking ropes and letting him do his thing to you.
20:04You understand?
20:05You want to win this fucking fight, you got to take it to him.
20:08It's the last round.
20:09He's going to come after you, but he's going to knock you out, or you got to knock him out to win.
20:13Real simple.
20:14You understand?
20:17Come on, man.
20:18All right, ladies and gentlemen, this is the six, and finally, yeah.
20:22Quickly now, let's go back to Mike Tyson for another observation on this debut fight for
20:28Raito Tsutsumi.
20:30Mike?
20:31He looks wonderful, man.
20:33He's been very aggressive throwing punches, and the guy that he's fighting is pretty exciting
20:38too, man.
20:38This is a really, I didn't expect to see this, I didn't expect the one, two, three rounds.
20:43This is beautiful.
20:44I'm excited.
20:45I'm excited.
20:46I think I'm entertained.
20:47I believe in him.
20:48You're excited by the skill level, right, Mike?
20:50Absolutely.
20:50Um, the gentleman with the black, the black shorts, he's very fast and sharp.
20:58Look at him throwing his punches.
21:00Great accuracy.
21:01And, and the ability to switch southpaw and change the fight.
21:05Yeah, man.
21:05They're both fighting very well.
21:07Very, very evenly matched.
21:10Thank you, Mike.
21:10I've been impressed by both guys thoroughly with how hard they're trying to win this fight.
21:20I think, uh, Tsutsumi is definitely winning this fight, but he's been challenging everyone.
21:26Yeah, it's easy to see that Tsutsumi is the kind of fighter that's going to be fast-tracked
21:31to a title shot, and this experience is going to do wonders for him.
21:34And there's every possibility that the stubborn, competitive Whittington is going to sit in his dressing room
21:43afterward and say, I was robbed, if the decision goes against him.
21:48That's the nature of boxing.
21:59He finally tried to do a move, and then he countered right off with the right hook.
22:03That was nice.
22:04Oh, we see Tsutsumi showing a little bit more urgency here.
22:08He definitely wants that knockout.
22:26The uppercut has found the home.
22:28He had missed with it.
22:29One minute to go in Tsutsumi versus Whittington.
22:37Impressive debut for Tsutsumi.
22:40Impressive competitive effort from the chosen opponent, Whittington.
22:45Yeah, Jim, this is certainly the kind of performance from Whittington that he's going to get more opportunities from.
22:54Totally agree.
22:56And nothing should dim the star luster of Tsutsumi, who's shown all his skills.
23:01The one thing Whittington can take from this is that, hey, man, if I really put my 100% effort into this game, I may be able to get something out of it.
23:10You can see the skill set on both of these guys.
23:20Absolutely.
23:22It's been an increasingly competitive fight from the second round forward.
23:27Whittington got more and more comfortable.

24:06And it was intended to be a showcase for Tsutsumi.
24:09It turned out, Antonio Tarver, to be a showcase for both fighters.
24:13Yeah, both fighters put out tonight and they did very, very well.
24:16I'm surprised.
24:17His first fight, oh my God, welcome to the sport.
24:21But it was a great fight on both fighters' part.
24:24We're going to see who won this fight.
24:26I believe that Tsutsumi won it.
24:27Going away.
24:28Well, I think he's going to get the official decision, yes.
24:32And that is probably the result of what appear to be more sophisticated skills.
24:39But effort on both sides, talent shown on both sides.
24:43You have to wonder how in the world is Whittington only 1-2-1 with the package that he showed here in this fight.
24:50That's what I was wondering.
24:53Hey, I don't think it hurts that you're fighting in Times Square against a highly touted prospect.
24:57Certainly he was up for this fight.
24:58CompuBox numbers, and you see that Tsutsumi threw more punches, landed more punches by a large margin,
25:10threw more, threw fewer jabs, but landed more jabs, and a big, a big edge in the category of power punches landed.
25:19Rito Tsutsumi, getting the gloves taken off in his corner.
25:29That's always got to be a happy moment for the fighter.
25:32Yeah, get these gloves off for sure.
25:35And the tape and all that stuff.
25:38Referee Charlie Fitch congratulating the Japanese prospect.
25:43Expected to have a productive professional career.
25:46This trainer is happy.
25:47Love you.
25:59Whittington, you saw the expression in the corner.
26:02He knows what to expect.
26:04Let's go to David Diamante for the official decision.

26:41And Whittington graciously shakes Tsutsumi's hand after the decision which was expected.
