00:09some slight size differences between the pizzas in the US and the UK. The US
00:13small is 10 inches, the US medium is 12 inches, the US large is 14 inches, the
00:18extra-large pizza is 16 inches across and cut into 10 slices. Here in the UK
00:23you get the small 9.5 inches, the medium 11.5 inches, the large 13.5 inches and
00:29the XXL, we skip the 1X one right to the 2XXL, 15.5 inches. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. 12 slices. That should be 8. I know what you're doing. You think if you have more slices you feel you get a little more pizza and you can dole it out, but no. People are just gonna eat more slices a lot faster. You've accomplished nothing, Papa John's. Nice try. Visually the pizzas look pretty similar to what I'm used to in the UK from a Papa John's. I'd be like, it's pretty hard to mess up just a cheese
00:59pizza from a fast food place. I will say each of the pizzas comes with this little
01:03pepper, which is not the case in the UK. Quite a thin crust, maybe a slightly thinner
01:08crust than I'm used to.
01:12Yeah, that's pretty good. Again, I'd say pretty comparable to what I'm used to in the UK.
01:17I'm not massively noticing a difference. Not like a ton of flavour coming through
01:21from the cheese. The cheese is just kind of there and offers some texture
01:25but isn't really giving me much flavour. They've also been quite light on the
01:29sauce on this one. It might just be the slice that I got, but not a ton of sauce.
01:35All right, let's see how the cheese pizza tastes.
01:41Mmm. This is better than most of the regular cheese pizzas I've had here. Better than Domino's and Pizza Hut.
01:48More flavourful, less fresh ingredients. The sauce is kind of sweet. Yeah, okay.
01:52And Papa John's is good. Mmm.
01:58Here's everything you'll find at a Papa John's in the US that you won't find in the UK.

02:05Of course in the US you have the option to create your own pizza at Papa John's
02:08and there are some exclusive ingredients you won't find in the UK.
02:11Today we were able to find two of the exclusive crust options.
02:15Here we have the XL New York style crust.
02:18Now I've been to New York. I've had New York pizza with Joe in fact.
02:21So I feel pretty qualified to comment on whether or not this is actually New York style pizza.
02:27A lot of cheese coverage here. Again, very little sauce like peeking through.
02:33I just don't see how this is New York style at all.
02:35Literally all they've done is take their regular dough and stretch it slightly thinner.
02:39I'm not sure you can call that New York style crust.
02:42Next up we have a gluten-free crust.
02:43I'm always a bit scared when I see a gluten-free pizza on a fast food menu.
02:48They haven't figured out a way to get that chew without the gluten in there.
02:52So often they just end up as like kind of crackers with some cheese and tomato on top of them.

03:02Yeah, I'm going into this with low expectations.
03:07Some gluten-free pizzas I've had are worse than this.
03:10Not to say this is like amazing and great but yeah, not too bad.
03:14They've definitely got like a little bit of chew going on that.
03:16You may also be able to find a cheesy calzone epic stuffed crust which sounds great but unfortunately we couldn't get it today.
03:21Outside of the crust options you can also customize your pizza with some other exclusive toppings.
03:25These include a parmesan romano cheese which I don't think exists.
03:30A three cheese blend.
03:32In terms of sauces you can get an alfredo sauce on your pizza or buffalo sauce.
03:36And for meats you can get a salami and meatballs.
03:39I want to draw attention to these meatballs because that looks like one of the driest things I've ever seen.
03:44It's like a ball of wet sand.
03:47Now Joe has cooked this up for me and it is the gluten-free base.
03:51Buffalo sauce is the base which I'm not thrilled about.
03:54The parm romano cheese which again I don't think is a real cheese.
03:58Salami and meatballs.
04:00And we'll try and get like a bit of everything in one bite so cheers guys.

06:46As you can imagine, the meatball pepperoni has meatballs and pepperoni on it.
06:51It's also got this Italian seasoning on it, which is going to be a bit of a theme I think with some of these pizzas.
06:55The meatballs are suffering from that same issue earlier and that they're just very dry and don't offer a ton of flavor.

10:31which I'm going to assume is because there's like quite a lot of cheese mixed in with the sauce.
10:35Because at the moment, it's just kind of a chewy, mushy mess.
10:38So this is the fresh spinach and tomato Alfredo.
10:41So let's see if the addition of extra toppings helps the Alfredo sauce a little bit.

10:48I think especially with these little cooked tomato pieces.
10:55They at least offer like a bit of sweetness, a bit of acidity,
10:58something to balance out just this like absurdly creamy sauce that's going on here.

14:28You can get the Italian meats trio and also the garden veggie, which we have here.
14:34You can also get a chicken Alfredo pappa bowl, or you can just create your own.
14:38So basically any toppings that you like on a pizza, you can just have in a bowl.
14:43The fact that I can just hold it like that and nothing comes out.
14:50Do not ever, under any circumstances, order a pappa bowl.
14:55So these are pappa deas.
14:57If we try to dissect the etymology of the word pappa dea for a second,
15:00I think what they've tried to do is obviously take the papa of Papa John's
15:04and combine it with like quesadilla, I think.
15:07Although they've not even spelled it like the double L-A.
15:10It's just I-A.
15:11So not really gone very well there.
15:13And honestly, I don't think the actual end product has either.

15:17These are a little bit weird.
15:19They take a small pizza and fold it over.
15:21My concern with the pappa dea is mostly just that it's quite a lot of dough.
15:27For not a ton of filling.

15:37It's kind of confirmed my fears in that there's quite a lot of dough.
15:40I've already complained about the meatballs being dry.
15:42So when you have like quite a dry, chewy exterior,
15:45and then the fillings themselves are also dry,
15:48that's just an unpleasant mouthfeel and overall dining experience.
15:52So yeah, this one, not off to a good start.
15:55I wonder if the Alfredo sauce will actually kind of come in handy here,
15:58because the last one just needed moisture, really.

16:03Now, Joe and I actually went on a tour of Philly and ate Philly cheesesteaks.

21:31helpful because it comes with the tomato. So this is effectively just a DIY build your own pizza.
21:39I don't want to try the jalapeno one. It's just going to be this but with jalapenos. I'm sorry
21:43I'm not trying that. You can also get jalapeno bacon cheese sticks. We didn't bother today
21:47because it's literally just this but with some bacon on it. So use your imagination.
21:50The US also has one exclusive flavor of Papa Bites which is calzone flavor but
21:55thankfully Joe spared me and did not order those today. These are sticks apparently. So
21:59down here we have garlic pizza sticks, four cheese garlic sticks, garlic sticks,
22:05bacon cheese sticks. Depending on what combination of bread garlic and cheese you
22:11want. You can have any one of those here. Oh hey yo. Garlic and bread. Who doesn't love
22:21that but no cheese that's weird. While we're here let's do sauce talk. Sauce talk. Got the
22:27tomato and herb dipping sauce. Oh my god. If you take the cheesy bread and the sauce,
22:40it tastes like pizza. Oh my god. Also we've had it before. We'll have it again. Garlic and herb. I'm
22:48telling you this wouldn't fly in America. I think if this became the default sauce one
22:53day everyone would return to Papa John's pizza. We want the melted butter with the
22:57garlic. That's what we want. We don't want this. They tried changing and people got
23:02really upset. These are the exclusive US sauces. I have a solitary bread stick. So
23:07firstly we have this zesty sauce. Not too bad. Could be zestier arguably. It's the spicy garlic
23:19dipping sauce. I'm not getting any of the spice. Classic pizza sauce. It's pizza sauce. It's fine.
23:27Ranch. I'd say the ranch is like zestier than the zesty sauce. The issue with barbecue sauce on a pizza
23:34menu is that personally I just don't think it goes with that many things on the menu. You might be
23:38able to find some other sauces that we couldn't get today. These include a blue cheese sauce,
23:42a honey mustard sauce, a cheese sauce, and a cream cheese icing. You may also be able to find a
23:47Doritos Cool Ranch sauce depending on where you are in the country and what time of year it is.
23:51Although I'm struggling to think how that would be any different from just ranch.
23:54UK desserts they have a few things here that you can't get in the US. Here's one of them. The
23:59cinna pie sticks. It's the sticks again. This time with cinnamon. No thanks. You can also get an
24:08assortment of Ben and Jerry's ice creams. We did order those but again they're sorry.
24:13The US has two exclusive desserts that we don't have in the UK. Firstly we have the Oreo Papa Bites.
24:19Papa Bites are effectively just swirls of dough with a filling. In this case we have some icing on
24:25the outside and little Oreo crumb pieces on the inside. These also come with a little dipping cup of
24:32icing. Hmm. It's hard worked. It's very tasty. I do think maybe the dough has sat out slightly too long
24:47because that has gone extraordinarily chewy. Then the other exclusive dessert is cinnamon pull apart.
24:52Hmm. Yeah that's like actually pretty reminiscent of a cinnamon roll. We actually have a few more
25:02American exclusive items that we weren't able to get today. This is because we actually exceeded

25:41lime beverage. Next up we have a Pepsi Zero Sugar. Dull branded lemonade. American lemonade which is

26:15Overall I'm pleasantly surprised by your Papa John's. Of all the fast food pizza I've had
26:22for foreign exchange is probably my favorite. Is there something in your menu that I would
26:27like to take back to America with me? Of course it's got to be that spicy veggie that I had.

26:37Uh, dislikes. Papa Diaz, the Papa Quesadillas. That is the laziest, laziest menu entry in any
26:46fast food. Bennett. Joe says Bennett. You know what you got to get rid of? You know what I didn't like?
26:51What was going on with that, um, thin crust, cheesy crust thing. I don't know what was going on with that.
26:57Now granted those pizzas look like they were delivered via foot. If you're giving me that thin of a crust,
27:04that pizza has to be at least 15% cheap. Right? It just seemed like a waste of space and kind of a ripoff.
27:11So that, gotta go. Overall I think Papa John's has done a pretty good job. Also like compared to Domino's,
27:17I just feel like the pizzas were much more manageable. They weren't cramming too many toppings in there.
27:21I think the ratios on the whole were pretty good. So yeah, I think like broadly speaking, barring a few
27:27big whiffs, not too bad Papa John's. I remember when we did the original Papa John's Food Wars,
27:32I did notice that Papa John's in the UK wasn't too filled with chemicals and I think it was kind of the
27:36same in the US. So maybe that would explain why in this example there isn't too much difference
27:41between the two of them. If there was one exclusive item that I could take back with me to the UK,
27:46I'm not exactly sure what it would be. There were a couple of pizzas that I thought were pretty good.
27:50I quite liked the pepperoni sausage and six cheese. I think those worked together and for some reason
27:55that pizza just had a better like sauce ratio than most of the other ones. Outside of that pizza,
27:59I think maybe the desserts were actually quite good over here. I think Americans do do desserts quite
28:03well. Either the cinnamon pull-aparts or the Oreo bites, both of them could come back with me.
28:08If I had to pick one thing to delete from this and all menus from around the world,
28:12I don't think it's going to shock anyone when I say the Papa Bowls. Those were an abomination.
28:19They do not deserve to be near any menus. Get rid of them. They're so stupid. What were you even thinking?
