00:00Do you think the Warriors are in trouble?
00:02I don't think they're in trouble, but I do think that tomorrow night,
00:056 o'clock tip, by the way, in case you're going or if you're not going,
00:09you can catch it here on 95.7 The Game, but it's an early tip.
00:12I think that tomorrow is going to be a 48-minute war.
00:15I don't think tomorrow is going to be a cakewalk.
00:16Oh, I don't think it's going to be a cakewalk.
00:18So I don't think that they're in trouble.
00:19I think they're going to win it.
00:20I'd like their chances if I was to bet.
00:23Like last night, if I was to bet and I would never bet against my team
00:27because I don't like that feeling.
00:28I don't even really like betting on my team.
00:31I just don't want to.
00:32Last night to me was a pretty easy call, and I sent it out on Twitter,
00:36I think, right before the tip.
00:37I put it as an 18-point game.
00:40Houston was just going to be so revved up.
00:42And they played great.
00:43Yeah, took the cap.
00:45Right, but sometimes when you're revved up,
00:46it actually spills you in the wrong direction.
00:49It can.
00:49They played great.
00:50They were awesome.
00:51Yeah, give them all the credit in the world.
00:53A young team in their first ever playoff series, for the most part,
00:57playing at home, backs against the walls against a veteran team that,
01:01the way they played, they were like, all right, I guess we've got to play this game.
01:06It did look like that.
01:07Steph's thumb is gigantic.
01:09Yep.
01:10And, you know, Draymond Green needs treatment on multiple body parts every time he comes out,
01:15and Jimmy Butler's got a tailbone, Bruce.
01:17Right, right.
01:18But those things aren't new.
01:19Those things were all true in Game 4.
01:21Right, but you go to Game 5, you travel all the way to Houston in Game 5,
01:25and it doesn't go well early, and you're down 20-8.
01:29It's easy to kind of say, okay, all right, well, I mean, we've got Friday.
01:34Okay, so, you know, Steve asked him at halftime and says, hey, what do you guys think?
01:38And it's like, give us five minutes.
01:40If we can't cut this thing from 27 down to 18, then we're good.
01:45And that's what it was.
01:4627 turned into 29, and it was a wrap.
01:49No, it was over.
01:50Yeah.
01:50It was over.
01:51It was over a couple minutes.
01:52I mean, it was already over, but yeah.
01:53It was over, over.
01:54I like the way they played that.
01:56I like the way they played that, and certainly we'll ask Steve about all of those sort of approach ideas,
02:03including how close was he or would he have been to bringing the starters back in
02:10if that thing had gotten to single digits, which it threatened to do so, but didn't.
02:16And there's a lot to consider there, which is to say that, A, the bench players are the ones who brought you back,
02:22so do they deserve to stay in, or would they have gotten tired?
02:25And then, are you bringing in Jimmy Butler, Steph Curry, and Draymond Green cold?
02:30They've been sitting on the bench for a while.
02:32Does that put their muscles in some sort of danger?
02:36And so, a lot to consider.
02:37Can't wait to talk to Steve about that.
02:39We'll talk to him about all of these things.
02:41He will join us today at 5 o'clock on Willard and Dibs.
02:44We'll take your phone calls until then, 888-957-9570.
02:50I get it.
02:50In general, whatever happened most recently is what's on our mind and shaping our emotions.
02:59And I, too, was surprised that this game got that out of hand that quickly.
03:05I really credit the Rockets for that because they're the ones who could have come in tight, and they did not.
03:11They came in the opposite.
03:12Very loose, very confident, used the home crowd to their advantage.
03:16Officiating certainly went their way early.
03:18They took advantage.
03:19They made their free throws.
03:20Give them all the credit in the world.
03:22But that's really the only surprise.
03:24To be honest with you, Dibs, if before the series had started, and I think you and I both had Warriors in 6.
03:32Yep.
03:33Yep, absolutely.
03:33If before the series had started, if someone had said to you, oh, you like Warriors in 6?
03:41Tell me which four go to the Warriors and which two go to, and you know exactly what I'm going to say.
03:48Right.
03:48It has literally gone to script.
03:51Right.
03:51The Warriors would steal game one, the easiest one to steal.
03:55The Rockets will respond and get game two.
03:58The Warriors will hold home court for three and four.
04:02The Rockets will desperately get game five.
04:04And then the Rockets will give the Warriors a little scare in game six.
04:12And the veteran experience and officiating in your home court will take care of the fourth quarter tomorrow night.
04:20And the Warriors will win.
04:22Now, maybe not.
04:23Maybe not.
04:24Maybe not.
04:24And we'll have to check on the crew tomorrow morning.
04:26That's what I would have said before the series started if I had to guess.
04:29Yeah, and I think I had the first two games reversed.
04:32I thought that the Rockets would win game one and the Warriors would steal two.
04:35But I also said that they would win the two at home.
04:37And then you go back to Houston.
04:39And a closeout in game five is always going to be tough, especially when you are going up against a team that's going to show that much fight and that much verve.
04:48And Houston did.
04:48And so you got down by a dozen halfway through the quarter, and you really didn't make any inroads.
04:54And next thing you know, you're down 20.
04:56And Curry wasn't hitting, and Draymond Green was lackluster.
05:00And Jimmy Butler suddenly thought that he was Reggie Miller.
05:04Like, you come out and you shoot four threes in the first quarter.
05:07Like, I don't know.
05:08It felt like they approached it in terms of a batter who's just swinging for the fence.
05:14If I connect, this thing's out of here.
05:16And so I'm going to swing as hard as I can.
05:17And if I don't connect, well, it's going to be a three-pitch at-bat.
05:20And I get struck out, and that's just going to be the way it goes.
05:23I want to go to the phones.
05:25This is totally random, but this just popped in my head thinking about last night.
05:31And, Grandy, you can weigh in on this, too, since you and I talked about this yesterday.
05:35Did you sit down and root for the Lakers?
05:39No.
05:39Of course.
05:40No, God, no.
05:41See, you say, of course, and you say, God, no.
05:43I don't know how you do that.
05:45What does that feel like?
05:47I tried, and I couldn't.
05:49Yeah, no.
05:49But, like, I know what you're thinking, Grandy.
05:52I know, like, I get it, which is that you want Minnesota to have to keep playing.
05:56Yes.
05:57Yeah.
05:58Against any other opponent, maybe.
06:01But rooting for what's best for the Warriors supersedes hatred for any particular team.
06:06Yeah.
06:06I get it.
06:07I wonder about that, because if the Dodgers are facing the Padres, and it's game 162, and
06:13if the Dodgers beat the Padres, then the Giants win the division, are you rooting for the
06:18Dodgers?
06:19Absolutely.
06:19Yeah.
06:20I don't know if you can do that.
06:21Oh, of course.
06:21I'd like to see that.
06:22You're rooting for the Giants to lose the division?
06:23Well, you'd still be a wild card.
06:25So, in this scenario, it's not like you can't beat Minnesota now, because they have a couple
06:29of days of rest.
06:30It's the Lakers.
06:32And I don't, under any circumstance, I can't do that.
06:36Like, yeah, LeBron, go Dodgers.
06:38Give them the ha-ha.
06:39You can play that all you want, Randy.
06:41You're not going to shake me off my spot, Laker fans up in this building.
06:45I'm going to split the difference on what the two of you are saying, because I will agree
06:50with Grandy for sure, if something's going to give a playoff berth to your favorite team,
06:55good Lord, you'd be shocked at what I would root for.
06:59I'd go way past the Dodgers.
07:01Well, this is just getting an additional, I mean, not an additional amount of rest,
07:06but getting it so that Minnesota doesn't have two days of rest?
07:08Well, the idea being that you wanted either, like, to not be at a rest disadvantage, and
07:14who knows, maybe that series ends up going to seven, and you end up getting a total rest
07:20advantage.
07:20It could go out to five or six days, potentially, even.
07:24So, I get where he's coming from there, but here's where I'll meet you, which is that
07:28I sat down, and I rooted for the Lakers, but I just couldn't really put my heart into
07:34it, and the second they lost, I was like, that's kind of fun.
07:39That's always fun.
07:40Pure joy.
07:41That's kind of fun watching the looks on the face.
07:43J.J. Redick looked like he aged about ten years last night.
07:47Woo, that was a bad series for him.
07:49He is not a real head coach.
07:51I'm not going to take that from him, but he got exposed in this series.
07:55He's a fraud.
07:56He's a fraud.
07:57He's never coached, and he got the job because he had a neat little podcast, and the
08:01superstars said, yeah, here's a guy who I can probably control, and will do what I say,
08:07and we're going to draft my kid, and everything's going to be awesome, and yeah, nice regular
08:11season, and you got Luka Doncic, and you still couldn't beat Minnesota.
08:15He's a fraud.
08:16He won 50 games.
08:17Look at that, Lucas.
08:18Yeah, no, he won 50 games.
08:20I think he is or can be, is in the process of becoming a good coach.
08:25If these 22-year-old Rockets are allowed some space to grow into playoff form, then so is
08:29J.J. Redick.
08:30Like, I don't think he's a fraud or any of that.
08:33I do think, boy, did he get whipped by Finch in this series.
08:37Yeah.
08:37He got absolutely schooled.
08:40It's because he's not a coach.
08:41He's never coached, and so you're never going to coach, and then your first job is going
08:46to be coaching the Lakers, and you're going to play your five best players for 24 minutes
08:51in the second half, and then last night you react by trying to go really small, and we're
08:56going to show Minnesota that they can't match up with us, and it turns out they can, and
09:00Minnesota took it to you.
09:01Did you see Gobert's numbers?
09:03Oh, my God.
09:05Did y'all catch Rudy Gobert's numbers last night?
09:08Like a zip code.
09:09Like 24, 22, and 17?
09:12Hold on.
09:12I got to look and see where it finished.
09:14Rudy Gobert last night had 27 points and 24 rebounds.
09:21Two blocks, no turnovers.
09:23Yeah.
09:23And we got to fight.
09:25Woo!
09:26Woo!
09:27Man!
09:28About 12 of 15 from the field.
09:30Good job, J.J.
09:31Rudy Gobert.
09:32I mean, you really played him off the floor, didn't you?
09:36Randall and Gobert went for 50.
09:38They combined for 50 points in that game.
09:41Minnesota got, wait for it, Anthony Edwards to go 0 for 11 from three-point range.
09:48Oh, yeah?
09:49And Minnesota still won on the road.
09:51Exactly.
09:52Three-point range for Minnesota.
09:54Guess the percentage.
09:54I'm looking at it.
09:55You're looking at it?
09:56Yeah, 15%.
09:5714.9%.
09:59Win.
10:00That's a win.
10:00And a road victory.
10:01Yeah.
10:02So wild.
10:04Anyway, let's go to the phones.
10:05People want to weigh in.
10:06We'd love to take your calls until Steve Kerr gets here in about two hours.
10:09Last night's game.
10:11Do you believe the Warriors, like, is this a sign of trouble?
10:14Or, take a breath, same as Memphis a few years ago, Warriors will get tomorrow night.
10:20That's kind of where I lean.
10:21I'm not going to say tomorrow's going to be easy.
10:23It's not going to be easy.
10:24I think the game is set up for the Warriors to win it.
10:26But, George in Los Altos.
10:28Hey, George.
10:29Thanks for calling.
10:30What's on your mind?
10:32Hey, guys.
10:33I also think that they're going to win tomorrow night.
10:35But, just a couple of things.
10:38And, maybe I read the stats wrong.
10:41But, there's a silver lining to last night's game, in my opinion.
10:44If you take a look at the number of minutes played by Houston's players, one through six,
10:51they were on the floor for 160 minutes.
10:54Whereas, the Warriors, one through six, players were on the floor for 130.
11:00And, yet, the Warriors came out.
11:01They tied them in the third quarter.
11:03And, they won the fourth quarter.
11:05But, I think, more importantly, it taught our bench guys.
11:10It gave them experience in the playoffs.
11:12And, it really showed the best that these guys have a lot of grit.
11:16So, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night.
11:19I'm not the least bit surprised that the Warriors fell down last night.
11:23I think it's just, you've got to expect that you're up 3-1.
11:26You've got three guys.
11:28Your best players are all in their mid to late 30s.
11:31So, to me, it's not a big deal about what Steve did.
11:34So, I'm looking forward to tomorrow night.
11:37And, as far as the Rockets themselves are concerned, I'm sorry.
11:41These guys are just, three of them are just a bunch of punks.
11:45I can't give them any more than that.
11:47They need to grow up.
11:48We're going to need names, George.
11:50Three Rockets are punks.
11:52Which three?
11:54Thompson, Green, and Shen Goon are three snot-nosed punks.
11:58They're punks.
11:59Almond Thompson's a punk?
12:00Do you see his attitude on the court, man?
12:05Come on, now.
12:06I know he's only 19 years old.
12:08I'm not talking about his skill as a player.
12:11I'm not saying that about any of the three of them.
12:14I'm just saying about their attitude.
12:16You can tell.
12:17These guys are not ready for this stage yet.
12:20They're going to be a force for many years to come.
12:23I give them that.
12:24But I don't think they're ready for the stage right now.
12:27And I think that's why they're going to lose this series to the Warriors.
12:30George, thanks.
12:31Appreciate it.
12:31Almond's actually 22, just like everybody else.
12:34All Rockets are 22.
12:35Doesn't matter who they are.
12:36They're all 22.
12:37Outside of Jeff Green and Steven Adams and Fred Van Vliet.
12:40They've also now gotten waivers.
12:41They also are 22.
12:43Jeff Green has played 22 years, so that might be his personal 22.
12:48Yeah, exactly.
12:49I think Almond Thompson's a little strong for me.
12:52I think he's a good player.
12:53Yeah.
12:53Oh, gosh.
12:55Almond Thompson is a good player.
12:57I know he's the one who, you know, and everybody's got a different opinion about the Jimmy Butler injury, and I know that was Thompson.
13:04But I don't think he's a punk.
13:06Dylan Brooks is a punk.
13:08And Shangoon is a punk in the making, it looks like to me.
13:12Well, he carries on a little bit, and even when he got head-butted by Pat Spencer, and it was a nosy nuzzle, it wasn't even really a head-butt, he gets bipped by the head, and then now we throw our head back, and we stagger four steps back.
13:27That's what I'm saying, man.
13:28It's a little too stereotypical Euro behavior.
13:32It's absurd.
13:33It's embarrassing.
13:33And I don't want to paint all Euros with the same brush, but Luca is from Europe, and the way he carries on with the head snap and the rest of it, it's a little too dramatic is what it is.
13:44It's embarrassing.
13:44Yeah.
13:45And that's what I'm getting at, and you can say that this is like a sidebar, and I'll even partially agree with you.
13:52It's not what last night in the end was about, but if you are a seven-foot all-star, and even if you do think something happened under the rim, there's a foul, everybody's walking away, and you decide, I'm going to go give a shoulder to Pat Spencer, the guy who watches Warrior Basketball games for a living.
14:19I'm going to go shoulder that guy, and then I'm the victim when he gives you kind of a headbutt-ish.
14:27No, it wasn't a headbutt.
14:28Whatever, yeah.
14:29Like he gave him a little, uh, and you're going to, oh, we're going to fly across the floor.
14:35Like it's embarrassing.
14:37And to your point, and I'm just going to do my amateur lip reading, because I'm looking at the three-minute clip of the whole sequence, and part of the three-minute montage is they cut to Draymond Green, who's looking up at the Jumbotron, and he looks at it, and he sees it, and he just utters two words.
14:56One word is a synonym for a female dog.
14:59Okay.
14:59And the other one is a synonym for a donkey.
15:04And he's smiling.
15:05I think I got it.
15:05He smiles, and he goes.
15:07Same initials as Brandon Ayuk.
15:09Correct.
15:10All right!
15:11So Draymond's looking up, and he goes, B-A.
15:13And he's like laughing, like, to shame.
15:15Totally.
15:16Basically, Shang-Goon, female dog, mixed with a donkey.
15:19That's what I think of you.
15:21This might be hilarious.
15:22One of my favorite texts on the Boxer and Gerson work injury attorney's text line that just came in from 650.
15:27Shang-Goon was barely an all-star.
15:29Oh, well then, maybe if he could just barely get into a fight with the 14th man on the bench, then it'd be okay.
15:37Like, I get what you're saying.
15:39I'm not saying Shang-Goon is a starter.
15:42He's not Giannis.
15:43But dude, you are an accomplished seven-footer in this league.
15:47You're an accomplished seven-footer.
15:50An all-star on a two-seed.
15:52You're going to go take your shoulder and chase down Pat Spencer,
15:56who you've got eight inches on that guy,
16:00and then you're going to go flying across the court when he challenges you?
16:05Embarrassing.
16:07Embarrassing.
16:08And he shouldn't have done it.
16:09Because I do think, even if on the smallest of levels, it got the Warriors' attention,
16:16it probably galvanized the team a little bit.
16:18Well...
16:18I'm not saying that it's...
16:19I think it entertained them.
16:20Yes.
16:20And from what I'm seeing of all the reactions from the Warriors, they thought that it was hilarious.
16:24It probably, if nothing else, it probably helped the flight home.
16:27Oh, for sure.
16:28Be a little bit less down.
16:29I wonder if they get on the flight, and they realize,
16:32okay, we've got to play these guys again.
16:34Somebody walks up to Pat Spencer with one of those giant WWE championship wrestling belts.
16:39For sure.
16:40And you just drape it on him and say,
16:41all right, Pat, you're the new champ.
16:43Just walk over to him and practice and bring him a chair.
16:46Here, hit somebody with this.
16:47Dude, totally.
16:48I don't know.
16:49They're probably getting a good laugh out of it.
