00:00now rexham are heading to the championship and all eyes are turning to how they'll approach
00:08a pivotal summer window it's been a meteoric rise but the challenge ahead is a new level
00:14altogether the championship demands depth quality and consistency something phil parkinson and the
00:20club's recruitment team will need to address in the coming months while the spotlight often lands
00:26on the owners it's parkinson's steady hand that's driven this success this summer expect a smart
00:32targeted approach blending experience with ambition as rexham look to not just survive
00:37but make their mark once again we spoke to rexham expert rich faye to get a sense of the club's
00:44plans after securing a historic third successive promotion under their manager
00:48yeah we've mentioned um the sort of competitive nature of all the the english leagues now and
00:58wrexham so close to the championship let's just look ahead if they are to go up um you know we've
01:03mentioned before how you know the squad might need to change there could be wholesale changes this
01:07summer they'll need to break um you know transfer records and really um sort of look ahead to how
01:14they're going to cope in the division obviously the relegation battle in in the championship this
01:18season has been incredibly tight i mean it will go to the final day you feel um for xmr to go up
01:24how do you feel they navigate the championship it's such a massive golf in class you know it's probably
01:30one of the biggest in in europe in terms of the step up from league one to championship football
01:34um are you confident how do you it's a complete whirlwind to go into it's complete
01:40mystery at the moment as to how they will navigate but i'm sure that the picture will become clearer
01:45you know as the summer goes on you know if they were to get there to the championship it would be
01:50the the biggest jump really imaginable for for the club because your championship to premier league
01:54is huge we've seen that with the teams who've gone up and gone down you know recently in back-to-back
01:58seasons but there's been so many teams as well who have yo-yoed between league one and the
02:03championship and they're very good teams with good managers and some very good players
02:06and even if you look at the wrexham squad now some of wrexham's better players are the likes of
02:10rafbone james you know these are players who were who were released from championship clubs george
02:16dobson that they were released and allowed to to come to to wrexham so there's a reason they maybe
02:22weren't deemed championship quality in the first first place if you're looking like raw individual
02:29talent it would need a massive overhaul this summer they need younger players maybe fitter players
02:33a bit more about them they maybe couldn't play the same style of football for as long as they have
02:39to wrexham will take you know great encouragement though seeing what oxford united have done this
02:43season in the championship they've exceeded expectation really i know portsmouth portsmouth
02:48as well look destined to come down but sort of turn things around and had their season back on track
02:53to a degree as well so i don't think it is this monumental challenge that some people are maybe
02:58making it out to be look what ipswich did you know they went back to back themselves and a key
03:03reason they did that they recruited recruited smartly got some really good experienced players in
03:08but they also just had that momentum and even the season wrexham didn't go up for the national league
03:14it was only in the playoff semi-final that they lost so if you look at it wrexham will have had
03:19four seasons in a row in which they basically won every single week and that just means the mentality
03:25of the squad is just so high you know they've got so much belief they've overcome so many different
03:32challenges so much adversity that wrexham will go to the championship and they will think oh we can
03:37survive we know we can because we're so used to winning at home so used to to getting these results
03:42and defying the odds that i think that they have a very good chance of staying up they'd have to spend
03:47a lot of money they'd have to make those ruthless calls that fans don't always agree with but i think
03:51just because they've got that momentum and that belief that they can stay up that's what that's what i
03:56think would be the the absolute bottom line ambition for next season to be competitive to try to stay in
04:01the division but if you're being you know a bit carried away and a bit too giddy like i said a team
04:07that's been promoted three times in a row you can't really say that they suddenly just start losing
04:10every week because i know in the modern world of football you look at stats you look at money you
04:16look at what makes a player better than another player they're still all professional footballers
04:20and the rectum players all have this belief and this this confidence that is so hard to to get and
04:25it's so often the difference at the top level so and they responded responded in style i think from that
04:30moment there was then that inner belief that they can they can still produce those big performances
04:35against the better teams in division and for me that that probably was the the turning point where
04:39you felt okay if they can do that against birmingham at home they can beat anyone
