Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff is a hub for creatives all across the city and the rest of Wales. It hosts art studios, a cinema, theatre and attracts thousand of visitors every year. As part of it’s community engagement, it’s now been nominated for a prestigious UK-wide award.

00:00Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff has been named one of the five finalists for the prestigious Art Fund Museum of the Year award, the UK's biggest museum prize with £120,000.
00:11The beloved Welsh arts venue joins a shortlist that includes Beamish in County Durham, Compton Verney in Warwickshire, Golden Thread Gallery in Belfast and Perth Museum in Scotland.
00:20The winner will be announced in Liverpool on June 26th, the first time the awards ceremony will take place outside of London.
00:27Chapter is a cornerstone of the arts in Wales, a creative hub in the heart of Cardiff that brings together contemporary art, independent cinema and theatre.
00:35Housed in a converted Edwardian school building, Chapter also offers studio for over 50 artists as well as rehearsal spaces, a community garden and accessible creative workshops.
00:45It attracts around 800,000 visitors a year and has built a strong reputation for innovation and inclusivity.
00:51This year's Art Fund Award recognises institutions that have made an outstanding contribution between Autumn 2023 and Winter 2024, not just in terms of programming, but also community impact, staff and volunteering efforts and new ideas.
01:05Art Fund director Jenny Waldman said the finalists were deeply connected to their local communities and alive with energy and ideas, describing Chapter and the other nominees as inspiring examples of what museums and cultural spaces can be.
01:18While only one winner will receive the top prize, the other finalists will be awarded £15,000 each to support their work.
01:25The award is funded by members of the Arts Fund charity through sales of the National Art Pass.
01:31For Chapter, the nomination alone is a moment of national recognition, not just for its creative programme, but for the vital role it plays in Cardiff's cultural life.
