00:00As Spain and Portugal slowly returned to normal following nationwide blackouts,
00:07the cause of the disruption remained a mystery on Tuesday.
00:11Portugal's Prime Minister Luís Montenegro has called for an EU inquiry,
00:15while his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sánchez said reforms will be made to ensure it does not happen again.
00:22It is, therefore, also important that, face to a less positive expectation,
00:29which was still outlined in our dependence, namely with Spain,
00:36we know that the problem that was caused
00:39does not have to do with the lack of production and distribution in Portugal.
00:46It has to do with exactly this connection.
00:49Spain's private operator, Red Electrica, has ruled out a cyber attack,
00:53but Sánchez said his government will also still conduct an independent analysis.
00:58And they are already examining the electronic records of the electric network
01:02and also private operators, to not discard any hypothesis.
01:07I say this because the electric network has made us know
01:12that it will discard on the transport network any cyber attack.
01:16We value this aspect positively,
01:19but in all cases, the responsibility of the government of Spain is to do an independent analysis.
01:25By Tuesday morning, Red Electrica said 99% of energy demand in Spain was restored,
01:31and Portuguese grid operator, REN, said all its power substations were back online.
01:35A blackout in the Iberian Peninsula brought much of Spain and Portugal to a standstill.
01:48Millions were affected across major cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon and Porto.
01:54In Spain, many say the outage caught them by surprise.
01:57Well, we were in the change of turn, I went and I went and entered,
02:01and the light came out, the door closed, the door closed, the door closed,
02:03the door closed, the door closed, the door closed,
02:04we can't dispense the medicines and some products for the pharmacy that we are trying to sell.
02:08But…
02:09And what cost is that? Can it have a lot of cost for the pharmacy?
02:12Personal, products, all the door closed, the door closed, the door closed.
02:16Train stations and telecommunications services experienced major disruptions.
02:25Bank cards were rendered useless, leaving many unable to purchase items like food and water.
02:30And products were quickly running out as consumers resorted to panic purchasing
02:35in preparation for a potentially lengthy blackout.
02:38There are little water, little water, little water, little food.
03:10Los semáforos no funcionan.
03:28This Tuesday marks exactly six months since the Dana floods occurred,
03:35impacting a number of villages in the outskirts of Valencia, like Aldaia, where I'm standing now.
03:41227 people lost their lives during those floods and thousands of businesses and homes were destroyed.
03:48Today here, the feeling is one of hope as some businesses have managed to reopen,
03:54but also of emotional exhaustion and anxiety and fear that the Dana could one day occur again.
04:00We had the opportunity to speak to Eva Lexcano, an entrepreneur and young mother here in the town.
04:05In the town.
04:06Ha sido duro.
04:07No te voy a engañar.
