00:01Across France are thousands of breathtaking chateaux.
00:06Many are forgotten and abandoned.
00:10Now they're being brought back to life by courageous owners.
00:15Give me a heart attack then.
00:17Who face extraordinary challenges.
00:20This is crazy.
00:22Breathe!
00:23To transform these historic buildings.
00:26This has been squashed.
00:28The water is probably splashing everywhere now.
00:31Into stunning new homes.
00:33That certainly looks beautiful.
00:35Well done team.
00:37And flourishing businesses.
00:40Come in and see what we've done to the cookery school.
00:42Oh my goodness.
00:44There'll be triumphs.
00:46I think we're doing amazing.
00:48And setbacks.
00:50Don't count on that one.
00:52What the chance for me?
00:54But however hard the going gets.
00:56It looks like the place is on fire.
00:59Those who've made the move.
01:01That's exactly what I wanted.
01:03Get to live the dream.
01:05This is what I call chateau life.
01:08As custodians of their very own castle.
01:13Today.
01:18One set of chateau owners has rotten luck.
01:21Well beam it's just.
01:22What's wrong?
01:23I'm poking it with my pencil.
01:25And it's coming apart.
01:27Oh God.
01:28And that gets like.
01:29A cracker.
01:30Another looks for a fairytale ending.
01:33Mirror mirror on the wall.
01:35Is this art studio.
01:37The fairest of them all.
01:38And the first of 50.
01:42Made to measure windows.
01:43Is carefully wheeled into place.
01:46Slowly slowly.
01:48Come on.
01:50Come on.
01:57Amongst the vineyards of the Dordogne.
01:59Stands the historic 14th century.
02:02Chateau des Vieilles Vignes.
02:04This crumbling 35 room.
02:11Former monastery.
02:13Stood abandoned for over a decade.
02:15With no electricity.
02:17Water.
02:18Or heating.
02:21That's until.
02:22London couple Nick and Nicole.
02:25Fell in love with the place.
02:28The first time.
02:29We walked in here.
02:30I just felt this sense of.
02:32Calm.
02:33And so despite.
02:34The vast number of spiders.
02:35We did find it.
02:36Yeah.
02:37No.
02:38It felt.
02:39It felt very calm.
02:41Located 20 minutes.
02:42South of Bergerac.
02:44Nick and Nicole.
02:45Bought the empty.
02:47Two-story building.
02:48In 2021.
02:50For just.
02:51195,000 pounds.
02:54When we last.
02:56Saw them.
02:57But you know what.
02:58It's just probably.
02:59Not quite as straightforward.
03:00As I was hoping.
03:01I think.
03:02They were rushing.
03:03To transform.
03:04An empty wine cellar.
03:05Is that right?
03:06Yeah.
03:07That's good.
03:08Into a cosy.
03:09One bedroom sheet.
03:11In time.
03:12For the arrival.
03:13Of their first.
03:14Baby.
03:15Wow.
03:16This is it.
03:17It's moving in there.
03:18And just three days later.
03:19Noah arrived.
03:20Nine months on.
03:21This new family.
03:22Has even bigger plans.
03:23As lovely as the cheetah is.
03:24It's just clearly too small.
03:25For the three of us.
03:26Yeah.
03:27And our aim now.
03:28Is to.
03:29Within the next few months.
03:30Before Noah's birthday.
03:31Be moving up.
03:32Into the first floor.
03:33Where we'll be making.
03:34Kitchen.
03:35Dining room.
03:36Living room.
03:37An ensuite bedroom.
03:38This move.
03:39Is going to triple the space.
03:40We have.
03:41And that.
03:42That's a massive change.
03:43Yeah.
03:44Can't wait.
03:45It will be a transformation.
03:46That all three of them can enjoy.
03:48So this space.
03:49Is going to be our big family kitchen.
03:51Big kitchen units.
03:52And a big island.
03:54A roaring fireplace.
03:55A big fireplace.
03:56We're going to be our family kitchen.
03:57And we'll be making a kitchen.
03:58A dining room.
03:59A living room.
04:00An ensuite bedroom.
04:01This move.
04:02Is going to triple the space we have.
04:04And that.
04:05That's a massive change.
04:06Yeah.
04:07Can't wait.
04:08It will be a transformation.
04:09That all three of them.
04:10Can enjoy.
04:11So this space.
04:12Is going to be our big family kitchen.
04:14A fireplace.
04:15This will be just.
04:16Such a beautifully.
04:17Social space.
04:18Which will lead in.
04:19To the beautiful dining room.
04:20I know.
04:21So great.
04:22To just have those two things.
04:23Right next to each other.
04:24As well.
04:25Yeah.
04:26I'm so excited.
04:27This space is going to be.
04:28Fantastic.
04:29So here we're in.
04:32What's going to be.
04:33The nook.
04:34We're going to.
04:35Well we're calling it the nook.
04:36But it's going to be.
04:37Our little living room.
04:38So this is where we're going to.
04:39Cozy up as a family.
04:40It's going to be very private to us.
04:42And yeah.
04:43Just space for us to.
04:44To relax.
04:45And have fun.
04:46And be.
04:47Yeah.
04:48With less than three months.
04:50Until Noah's first birthday.
04:52They've got a lot of work to do.
04:54To realise their plans.
04:56So.
04:57With Nicole.
04:58On childcare duty.
04:59Nick.
05:00Makes a start.
05:01On the nooks exposed.
05:03Stone walls.
05:04I'm just making a mix.
05:05For the.
05:06For the pointing walls.
05:07So.
05:08Essentially.
05:09It's a mix of line.
05:10And then.
05:11Sand.
05:12I guess most time.
05:13When you're putting.
05:14Walls together.
05:15You just kind of slap it in.
05:16And don't really think about it.
05:17That's actually the finished look of the chateau.
05:26Lime really loves moisture.
05:28If you don't wet it.
05:29It doesn't bind to the stone.
05:30And it all just kind of ends up falling out.
05:32Looks really messy to start with.
05:34But then you scrape it back.
05:35From the stone.
05:36So the first.
05:37Pass is looks really.
05:38Like what have you done.
05:39You've ruined the wall.
05:40I may well have done.
05:41But.
05:42That's the process right.
05:43We're flinging this on.
05:44Allowing it to dry.
05:45Until it's kind of that crisp point.
05:46Scraping it back.
05:47Allowing it to dry some more.
05:48And then you brush.
05:49So it's kind of three-step process.
05:50Essentially.
05:51But yeah.
05:52This first part is definitely.
05:53The trickiest.
05:54It's intricate work.
05:55That requires a lot of patience.
05:57Well as with everything.
05:58It always feels like.
05:59The first bit takes forever.
06:00And you're looking at.
06:01The whole world going.
06:02I'm never.
06:03I'm not quite sure.
06:04How I'm going to get it all done.
06:05But.
06:06I'm hoping Nicole.
06:07If Noah falls asleep.
06:08Will be able to.
06:09You know.
06:10Come and help me on this.
06:11And stuff.
06:12And we'll make it.
06:13And we'll make it.
06:14And we'll make it.
06:15And we'll make it.
06:16And we'll make it.
06:17And we'll make it.
06:18And we'll make it.
06:19And we'll make it.
06:20And we'll make it.
06:21And we'll make it.
06:22And we'll make it.
06:23And we'll be working on this.
06:24And stuff.
06:25And we'll make some.
06:26We'll make some decent progress on it.
06:27These new parents.
06:28Are facing.
06:29Long days.
06:30As well.
06:31As disturbed nights.
06:40In the lush landscape.
06:42Of rural Brittany.
06:43Are the remains.
06:44Of the grand.
06:45Moulin du Quenon.
06:47This derelict former water mill.
06:54Was built in 1881.
06:56And sits proudly on its own island.
06:59Between two ancient bridges.
07:02The main building.
07:05Is spread across five enormous floors.
07:08And comes with concrete silos.
07:13Outbuildings.
07:14And a small jeet.
07:20Hoping to give the abandoned building.
07:22A new lease of life.
07:24Are experienced chateau renovators.
07:27Donna and Paul.
07:28Who snapped it all up.
07:30For under 100,000 pounds.
07:31In early 2024.
07:33I think from my perspective.
07:34You know.
07:35It's a totally different building.
07:36And.
07:37You know.
07:38For designing.
07:39Of how it's going to look.
07:40It's really exciting.
07:41Because I can kind of think.
07:42Outside the box.
07:43Again.
07:44On a totally different.
07:45Industrial.
07:46Kind of feel.
07:47He's pressing himself already.
07:48We're going to rinse and repeat.
07:49These same discussions.
07:50On wallpaper choice.
07:51Yeah.
07:52The property.
07:53Is located just 16 miles.
07:54From the coast.
07:55And with such a huge restoration task ahead.
07:57The couple are taking things.
08:01Step by step.
08:02We're currently living off site.
08:03Short term plan is.
08:04We need to try and make.
08:05As yet.
08:06As yet.
08:07As yet.
08:08As yet.
08:09As yet.
08:10As yet.
08:11As yet.
08:12As yet.
08:13As yet.
08:14As yet.
08:15As yet.
08:16As yet.
08:17As yet.
08:18As yet.
08:19As yet.
08:20As yet.
08:21As yet.
08:22As yet.
08:23next door the sheet has got to be first because our accommodation is only for
08:29another couple of months so that has got to be our priority with the clock
08:36ticking they've already begun the transformation by knocking a door into
08:41their new living quarters this area is going to be part of the bedroom of the
08:49sheet it's going to be pretty nice isn't it once the the door and windows in
08:53place the sooner we start the sooner we finish yeah
09:02first block we've laid in the mill to be honest just a lot more block to go you
09:06know but it's good to get get the first one down so when you need some for the
09:12side you do after all right that looks like it's lower than the
09:18previous that is Laura the slabs way off so I'm just gonna have to try and do it
09:22on the courses by the time we get to the window it needs to be level be nice to
09:30be actually on site instead of a distance away all the time it's it's always a
09:35worry when you you're living away from where you're working and they'll put our
09:39minds at rest once we're here and the walls appearing we've got a corner one
09:45to another 12 13 more and all the way around quicker to knock them down than
09:53it is to rebuild them isn't it it's just the beginning of one of the most
09:59colossal DIY projects imaginable
10:05coming up only the best will do for one Chatelaine
10:13everyone needs a little bit of goals in the chassis a bit of bling
10:16we've still got about a billion rooms today Nicole hits a wall I will never
10:22want to do this again ever in my life and Donna and Paul are in a tight spot
10:27less than 128 oh that's not good
10:38the beautiful countryside of the Pays de la Loire on the west coast is the
10:44idyllic setting for the fairy tale Chateau de Borneau
10:50built in the 19th century it boasts 55 exquisitely designed rooms 40 acres and
11:01even a genuine medieval moat since 2018 it's been the home of British born Erin
11:10and French husband JB
11:14Chateau de Borneau project for us is first and foremost a passion project and
11:17this is why we can do it we love it we love this lifestyle and we're not afraid
11:23of putting in the hours all the hard graft to realize our dream and to bring the
11:28Chateau back to life for other people to appreciate it in the future
11:35just 40 miles northeast of La Rochelle Erin and JB bought the Chateau and its
11:42four sheets for around five hundred and sixty thousand pounds last time we saw them they
11:51just started turning the dome turret into Erin's very own art studio while engineer JB focused on
12:03repairing the holes in the exterior walls Erin started work on the oak framed windows
12:10I think the room at the top of the tower does feel very fairy tale and quite
12:17Rapunzel ask and it is certainly a very beautiful room on a quest for inspiration the couple visited one
12:27of the Pays de Loire's most impressive buildings
12:30it's absolutely beautiful
12:33Chateau de Terre Neuve the home of the Viscount and Viscountess
12:39Dufontenu and the 19th century artist Octave de Rochebrune
12:45left us a big stock of papers the opulence appears to have rubbed off as Erin can't wait to get gilding
13:03the opulence appears to have rubbed off as Erin can't wait to get gilding so you need the glue in every
13:16little crevice that you want the gold leaf to stick to for my arts and crafts room I want it to be
13:24really light and airy but I also want it to have that slightly sort of romantic fairy tale feel
13:30because it's my turret escapism once the glue's on the fun really begins you just lay it on roughly
13:39and I just slowly tap it in trust the process it will start looking really messy and broken and you
13:44just keep working in and eventually you'll get a smooth really beautiful coverage I think everyone
13:49needs a little bit of a gold in the chateau a little bit of bling to bring that wonderful gold
13:57sort of warmth and kind of richness to an old frame I think this is really great sounding
14:03biggest tip is have a really dry stiff bristle brush this gets into the little cracks and relief very nicely
14:14upstairs in what will be the new arts and crafts room JB is carefully adding fresh putty to the old
14:25window frames I'm very happy to help Erin like you know creating a workshop so it's obviously a workshop
14:34so it's whatever she wants that will be done here if she wants to paint a fresco on the ceiling she can do
14:42I'm just gonna give it a first lick of paint on the frame to protect it excited about what they can
14:55do with a sweet little room Erin and JB have even invited the Viscount and Viscountess to its inauguration
15:03first though they need to finish it back in Brittany the walls of Donna and Paul's new bedroom are in and
15:20their next task is to give it a view across the river we need to get a couple of windows and bring them
15:27across and offer them up into the prepared opening and see to keep our fingers crossed yeah well it's
15:34been prepared so see if it fits before they can check Paul's handiwork they have to find the window
15:40amongst the 50 or so they've had made so it's window w8 it's obviously going to be at the back is it yeah
15:50they now have the tricky task of moving the bespoke thousand-pound window into place right
16:00pull and slip off it down it's very nervous kind of moving them and that I mean they cost an awful
16:08lot of money they're all custom made so any damage you're stuck with it aren't you you know right
16:15go okay solid you're gonna have to try and support so it doesn't fall over as we wheel it yes there is
16:32that as well so once we do this we've only got another 50 times to do it let's smooth out the mud
16:42all right ready go come on push
16:48slowly slowly come on
16:55oh that was a just wasn't it just the spine
17:06oh this window is the first of many to be fitted the moment of truth 128
17:17see we're 129 and a half at the bottom but I think here
17:25that's not good the issue we've got is that we may have an opening slightly less than the window size
17:43it's 127 and a half oh gosh one and yet we left more space so how's that happened it's the blocks
17:52aren't always straight I mean neither is me laying on but the block certainly are not always fit
17:59Donna and Paul have only just started work on this enormous building and already they've hit a snag
18:07over 350 miles south in the dog dying Nick's finally finished repointing the nooks stone wall oh great
18:27that looks like it's ready to scrape I see this just re-exposing the stone right
18:33it's later but surely yeah I don't know how many weeks or years of our life we're going to be
18:41spending on doing pointing but yeah I mean just this alone I just this little bit here it's probably
18:46a good half an hour's work right it's a huge job and a constant juggle alongside childcare
18:54we enjoy being super busy but I have to say this takes a beyond super busy too many times a bit too
19:04much luckily this afternoon Nick's mom's here to help which means Nicole can spend some quality time
19:19with her husband and a bucket of mortar this is not definitely how we were thinking of spending our
19:27years together that sure not as much of this time at least no exactly but the end result will be worth it
19:40exactly this could be the best time we get together no more kind of romantic dates for two at the
19:45restaurant it's a DIY for two soon the couple are making great progress I definitely think that
19:55getting this hands-on with your own home or what's going to be your home makes it a lot more enjoyable
20:01once you live in it because we know the bare bones of this place because we've stripped it back to beams and
20:08two stone so we know every single layer of this place which is lovely it's a really nice feeling I
20:14think but it's really nice to know that this is gonna hopefully stand the test of time as well yeah
20:19exactly I mean this stuff like literally lasts for hundreds of years I don't say so I just love the fact
20:34that we've still got about a billion rooms today yeah I don't want to think about that yet okay
20:40sorry focus focus on this once we come to the finished kind of the end of this project I'll
20:45definitely be quicker but then I will never want to do this again ever in my life after a few hours hard
20:51graft dinner and Noah's bath time are beckoning it's a good time to call it quits for the day okay cool good
21:00job yeah great progress well done it's a real skill to point and to do it well and to do it properly so
21:10I think yeah I'm no I'm pleased what about you continuously I'm really pleased we're continuously
21:17learning how to do it we're getting faster it is a huge amount of work to point the walls like this
21:23but it's worth it because the finish result is stunning you can't even compare to what it used to look like
21:27so we feel very strongly that it's bringing back the chateau to its original state there's a lot we
21:32still have to do for now though they're back on parent duty so the build will have to wait
21:39still to come Paul goes to extremes to make the window fit there's some minor adjustments and Nick and
21:56Nicole reach for the stars our aim is to make sure the ceiling is straight for the first time in a very
22:03very long time in the pay de la loire Erin and JB are working hard to turn the chateau central turret
22:19into an art studio so we have finished most of the structural work in the room the windows are now
22:27finished back in place painted now though there's some extra pressure the Viscounts and Viscountess of
22:36Chateau de Terre-Neuve are going to come here to see our studio we just have a completely bare room here
22:42and we've got them coming here to open my art studio and at the moment there's nothing with the local
22:51nobility on their way Erin and JB need to crack on will you be able to hold it more or less here okay
23:01it's actually quite heavy holding more or less good yeah good well done
23:21yes it's all I love the sort of prettifying phase is nice I'm actually putting color on the walls I
23:29want putting up the chandelier all the little bits and pieces all the beautiful elements that bring a
23:34room together this room is a sort of vanity project in a way and most of the things we do here are always
23:42for our wedding clients or for our holiday cottage guests so it's really rare that we are doing something
23:47for the shutter that's really just for us okay well it fits yeah yeah so just give it a good clean
23:57up it's a useful set I think cool once the furniture's in place Erin can unveil her first piece of
24:07craftwork this is the gilded mirror that I covered so that I'm going to hang up in there I think it
24:14will look great that gold antique five with the white walls mirror mirror on the wall is this art studio
24:23the fairest of them all I don't think it is I will see what the Viscount thing as well as the mirror
24:34Erin would like to display work by the Viscount's most famous ancestor these are the gravel
24:43oh yeah do you want me to hold them up and you can decide okay yeah go on make myself useful for
24:55once something like that yeah I think yeah maybe we should split the two it makes more sense it's
25:10sort of magical yeah what's that put them down yeah you can put them good thank you so I'm thinking so in in
25:21level with the middle window so yeah like something like I mean I know it's sort of on a funny so but
25:28lined up with that well like all lined up it needs to be at eye level okay I want to say and game notices
25:38then so we hang a couple of caviar from the Viscount ancestor on the wall of the art studio so we're just gonna
25:56see if he noticed there's gonna be a good test of his knowledge of his ancestor really hopefully the Viscount not only
26:05notices de Rochebrun's work but also the effort that Erin and JB have gone to
26:21200 miles south near Bergerac a month has passed at Chateau des Vieilles Vignes
26:28there we go and while a friend babysits Nick and Nicole carry on with their mammoth renovation it's
26:39been a busy few weeks hasn't it we've had always yeah the plumbers electricians coming in to kind
26:44of put in all the remaining pipework and electrics and then we're putting up ceiling rails yes in the
26:50dining room in the kitchen yeah so it's coming together but there's still a lot to do today we are
26:57going to be putting up more ceiling rails in what's going to be our look so our little small living room
27:04yeah we're creating in essence a suspended ceiling which is made up of these kind of little hooks that
27:09sit down and then you stick rails on them and then you you screw in the the plasterboard directly into that
27:15putting up ceiling rails isn't my favorite thing to do but it's probably a means to an end yeah so
27:22and a means to us moving in here and be able to celebrate Noah's birthday yes so it's we're ecstatic
27:27it's not low enough we need to go in lower oh that's better so our aim is to really just make sure this the
27:45ceiling this is straight probably for the first time in a very very long time because at the moment it's
27:50it's it's kind of doing this see you in many many many more to go
28:03oh god Nick this whole beam is just what's wrong well I'm poking it with my pencil and it's coming apart
28:13I made a huge hole just by the with a pencil so it's rotten is what you're saying oh god Nick it's
28:19like a cracker get me a screwdriver I need to know about Nick I can use this we have woodworm here so I
28:26think it's been completely compromised with that because it's the woodworms hole holes I can see it's
28:31here that's the problem and he is especially bad it's just that top layer it's fine this is a good thing
28:39thing with oak right unless it's damaged by water the core of the oak is so strong no insects can get
28:45in there so whilst it might do a little bit of damage on the surface it can't get in much deeper
28:50than the surface I like my beans to be thicker than crackers this is not ideal just stick three screws
28:57in them keep your fingers crossed yeah but sticking three screws in a cracker doesn't really make any
29:02difference
29:09show them
29:11this is eaten by bugs as well
29:14these beans are something else
29:19nope that snapped it excellent
29:24this is our final rail amazing
29:37how's that
29:38I'm on
29:39me too so we're saying we've got it in the right place
29:42it looks like it
29:44yeah well I'm up to the end
29:46yeah
29:47come on
29:48you've got it
29:49you've got it
29:50no wait wait stop
29:51oh is it
29:52oh god
29:53oh that makes a difference
29:55wow and that's done
29:57just the whole rest of the chateau to do
29:59once we get the ceiling up here it's going to start feeling a lot more like a room and we're gonna
30:06I feel like I'm gonna be able to envisage the final article a lot better it's a huge milestone
30:12this move for us will transform our lives because the space we're in is definitely getting too small for the three of us
30:19it's way too small we're cramped as anything so this will feel like moving into a chateau in comparison
30:27they next face the tricky task of fixing three meter long plaster boards to the rails but their dream home is edging ever closer
30:39at Moulin du Cuenon
30:46Donna and Paul have discovered an issue while trying to install a window in their gite bedroom
30:54the openings actually it's it's just a little off square so we need to take the saw and cut a bit of the block work off just so we've got enough gap for the window so just some minor adjustments
31:07giving Paul the perfect excuse to reach for his power tools
31:14despite this setback the couple don't regret taking on this enormous renovation
31:22each morning we wake up and we decide what we're going to do today and where latterly at the the chateau it was dictated by the businesses you know today we've got guests coming into the chamber
31:39door and must go and clean rooms here it's a new project where it's restoring it back to its former glory which is always exciting you know hard work but exciting
31:54with the opening adjusted by a fraction Donna and Paul must now cross their fingers it's correct
32:01right I'm releasing the strap
32:08ready
32:09ready
32:10yep
32:11would you be able to lift it or not
32:15I think so
32:16tell me when you're ready
32:17okay
32:18go
32:19oh god
32:20no
32:21it might be a good idea to get Pete on the front as well
32:23Peter
32:25Peter
32:26can I have a hand buddy
32:27not wanting to take any more risks they call in construction worker Pete
32:33Pete's been on site with us the last couple of weeks working on the strip out so he's an extra pair of hands when we need it as well
32:41Pete can grab that side and then Donna can stare at the front
32:44the bespoke windows Donna and Paul have had made are costly so they can ill afford any other
32:51breakages
32:53one two three
32:55to you a bit
32:59are you in?
33:01I'm on the edge but just
33:03finally with the window up they can see if it fits
33:08it's tight up against this side
33:11and at last it seems it's the perfect size
33:16he he he
33:18the difference
33:19cheers Pete
33:21thanks Pete
33:25wow
33:27laid in bed
33:29looking out of the window
33:31look at that view
33:33it's amazing how just putting a window in makes the space feel so different you know
33:38yeah
33:39it's really really nice it feels like we've suddenly moved forward
33:43perhaps makes this space almost doable in six to seven weeks
33:49yeah
33:51it's been a productive day
33:53but for Donna and Paul there's no time to sit back and enjoy the view if they want to be living here in a couple of months time
34:01coming up
34:07there's a problem with the measurements
34:09there's a major miscalculation
34:11well I'm not sure what we've done but clearly we haven't measured it correctly
34:15and the reviews are in for JB and Erin's art studio
34:19very nice
34:21very nice show
34:23oh
34:25oh
34:27oh
34:29oh
34:31oh
34:33oh
34:35oh
34:37oh
34:39oh
34:41oh
34:43oh
34:44one two three
34:45one two three
34:46yeah I maybe hold the top of your hand just because
34:48I am holding
34:50the 30 kilo
34:53three meter long plaster boards
34:55are now needed up on the first floor
34:57just tell me if you need to stop or slow down or speed up
35:01yeah
35:02so we are aiming today to get started in what's going to be the dining room
35:07be the dining room to get the ceiling up so the floating ceiling it's going to feel really nice
35:13to have it looking pristine white level hopefully we'll all go smoothly we're going to be measuring
35:21getting the line and cutting it to the size for it to fit in that space above helping them out
35:27today is nick's stepdad john the other one was four centimeters this is roughly six and a half
35:37and then we're going 10 after that yeah so that's going to be 33
35:47there's always a huge amount of discussion and i think um this would have been done in half the
35:52time had there not been so much discussion and still 32 and a half this gets easier look this
35:58isn't that straight this wall this is ridiculous measurements complete they now need to cut the
36:05board to match this is definitely not the best way to be cutting plasterboard
36:13but although surprisingly it kind of is working
36:16next stage is to winch it up get it over the awkward wall tie
36:22and get it into place and then screw it into place um well that should be it
36:32this is way over here yeah there's a problem with the measurements it does look a little bit out
36:43how far off are we way too much to get it in well i'm not sure what we've done but clearly
36:49we haven't measured it correctly because the board is still too long plan b cut the panel on the center
36:55line and put up the wonky end on its own
36:59i think plan b is going to be much more viable than from a leg it feels a lot easier to move
37:12something this size rather than three meters twist it that way that's it keep twisting a bit more
37:21that's closer actually let's face it this wall is so uneven on every single side that it's impossible to
37:27get it perfect our amazing plaster will have to work his magic to to make it look good this is
37:34completely winging it learning as we go making 10 000 mistakes as we go getting it right
37:42half the time well we just need to get it right once for it to for it to work yeah for sure
37:47we've only even got half a piece up so uh many more halves to go john's called it a day but nick and
37:56nicole have no option but to keep going i'll help you what we need is that to be in line with that board
38:11over there beautiful now we're talking this is the easy part just screwing the speak for yourself
38:24the uh the plasterboard to the metal rails uh it's a quick job
38:31now you can move it in now i mean that is pretty perfect this is amazing really nice to get this one
38:37up and it's almost pretty flush against the the beam as well yeah yeah yeah in a little bit just a tiny
38:46bit yeah a bit more how's that looking good yeah yeah it's definitely starting to look like our dining
38:54room it's just uh looking good very pleased and with a bit of teamwork their dining room has a ceiling at
39:02last this is the last screw that's coming in place i think a collective sigh of relief from nicole and i
39:15we did it yeah well done it's easy to get wrong
39:19ah but nice to get right yes and we have a flat ceiling we do
39:27it's been a hectic few weeks getting this massive project underway
39:33all in all an enormous amount of progress in a very short period of time but you can feel it we
39:38feel it now yeah what in the aching muscles yes tired brains i think yeah one of the things that the
39:44last 12 months has made us adapt to is is juggling so much yeah keeping noah happy making sure that we
39:50get good quality time in with noah and as well as project managing and then doing all the diy yeah
39:56it's a lot but somehow somehow we've managed 12 months so i'm guessing keep going a bit longer yeah
40:05that's very cute with their moving in deadline of noah's birthday creeping ever closer the juggling
40:14won't be over any time soon
40:24further north erin and jb are racing to finish their new art studio
40:30this is the best bit it's all the shelfy styling it's the kind of trying things out i mean like
40:37no move that there all the stuff that jb's like stop faffing but actually it makes the room
40:43stop faffing yeah
40:45some very important guests are on their way and erin wants everything to be perfect
40:53are you ready for the visit of the vicente vicente so well he's uh i don't know well we need to get
40:58changed yeah it's time to find out whether their work is good enough to impress french nobility
41:09so this is the grand opening then this is the grand opening yes of our turret room i'll say our my turret
41:16room do you think they've done this before probably many times yeah all right is that right i think so yeah okay
41:33only a fortnight ago the room was simply a dumping ground holes in the tower walls
41:41and damaged window frames left it cold damp and neglected
41:49now it's been transformed into a warm and welcoming workshop
41:56the thick walls carefully repaired its oak window frames restored
42:02handmade crafts and curated shelves demonstrate erin's artistic flair
42:12and prints decorate the walls paying homage to the man who helped inspire the room's renovation
42:21now their guests have arrived and it's time for erin and jb to show off their work
42:27their work
42:29madame la vicente would you give us the honor of opening the art studio
42:33oh yes i was waiting this
42:37the music
42:40drum roll
42:40the etchings by the viscount's great-great-grandfather don't go unnoticed
42:56it's really nice so you have the beautiful gravure of octave de rochebron yes i'm very pleased you've
43:01spotted your ancestors yeah it's quite touching to for from them to you know to put that here yeah
43:09yeah i'm just learning how to do gold gilding so with gold leaf so this is a one of my attempts
43:16very nice very nice job yeah very nice work
43:21very nice place oh thank you have this view that it's a fantastic view
43:27i can see she's doing the good job so really
43:31travel
43:31it's important to have some people who are trying to save the french heritage
43:41all in all good job good thank you
43:46thank you both
43:46all of erin and jb's efforts have been worth it
43:52and this is one fairy tale with a very happy ending
44:10next time oh my word one couple face a crumbling crisis
44:21all this is gonna go boom with a wedding deadline looming that is a horrendous scenario
44:27another struggle to finish their guest suite before visitors arrive
44:32oh you pulled it off the wall and it's all ups and downs
44:38careful for a set of new chateau owners
44:42i'm worried it's gonna swing like a conker into the window
44:46as they renovate a bathroom
44:50oh yeah that's the nest of something
