Carly Pearce talks with John and Tammy from Audacy's KSON backstage at Stagecoach 2025
Transcript
00:00God, you still have those fire eyes.
00:02Yeah, damn.
00:03I know.
00:03I kind of want to make you mad.
00:05Is that weird?
00:05That says a lot about me, doesn't it?
00:06That does say a lot about you.
00:07I know.
00:07Because I can get pretty mad.
00:09I can tell.
00:10Carly Pierce, I'm scared.
00:11I'm turned on.
00:12I don't know what the hell to think right now.
00:14The fabulous Carly Pierce is back at Stagecoach.
00:17Finally!
00:18I know.
00:18It's been so long.
00:19Oh, my God.
00:20We're so excited for you.
00:20And you did not bring back the sweltering heat in which you last performed in.
00:24No, I did not.
00:26We were candles that day.
00:28That was a lot.
00:28I remember really thinking that my scalp was going to bust open because I was out not
00:33on the main stage or covered.
00:34So we talked to you months ago when the lineup was announced, and I made the horrible, I didn't
00:40know it at the time, mistake of cussing in front of your dear, dear mother.
00:44Oh, my God.
00:44She was a hoot.
00:45She loved it.
00:46Okay, good.
00:47Yeah, she was a hoot.
00:48She's pretty funny.
00:48I know.
00:49She never wants to talk because she gets shy, but then when somebody starts talking to her
00:53and she gets a little confident, then she's like, hand me the phone.
00:55One of the best moments, we just revisited it this week before the show, and you were
01:02saying, oh, here she is, blah, blah, blah.
01:04And then you were saying, well, I hope she does.
01:05Oh, here she is.
01:07And you could hear it in your voice.
01:08It was so, it was such a relatable moment because she was like, no, no, give it to me.
01:14Now she's like, well, I mean, you know.
01:15Because we're in the car, so she, yes, we were driving.
01:18Is she able to experience any of this with you?
01:19I mean, she's not here, obviously, or is she?
01:21She's not here.
01:23She has a lung condition that keeps her from doing a lot of walking around, but she actually
01:28just got to come and see me when I played in Knoxville.
01:30Oh, nice.
01:31She comes every once in a while, but she's always watching.
01:35She'll definitely be live streaming.
01:36This morning, I woke up, and she's like, what's the live stream?
01:38Give me the link.
01:39I'm like, all right, I got you.
01:39Well, I know she was all excited about Brothers Osborne.
01:41She loves Brothers Osborne.
01:43They were just here, strapping and handsome as usual.
01:46I know.
01:46They're so cute and so tall.
01:48They're huge.
01:48I know, they kind of, like, scare me sometimes.
01:50Jessica, show color the picture of you in Brothers Osborne.
01:52It's as if you're standing in a hole.
01:55I feel like, I mean, what is that?
01:59Trust me, we kind of came up together.
02:02I used to, like, play random shows with them years and years and years ago.
02:06When we would make our flyers, TJ and John, they would have somebody draw, like, a little
02:10flyer, and, like, it's just fun.
02:12They're like my big brothers, but they are huge.
02:14Literal big brothers.
02:15Literally big brothers.
02:16So, happy birthday.
02:17Thank you so much.
02:18We have a gift for you.
02:19You do?
02:19We actually have two gifts for you.
02:20What?
02:21One is something that's near and dear to our heart.
02:23Okay.
02:23And I think I heard a rumor that if you don't want this, someone in your band might.
02:27Oh, Lord.
02:28But we want you to, not, yes, not necessarily today, but we just want you to represent the
02:32fine city in which we live in.
02:33Oh, I, okay, I'm absolutely going to.
02:38Oh, this is so funny.
02:39Do I have time to tell you this story?
02:41You have as much time as you want.
02:41This is your time, not ours.
02:42So, my bass player.
02:43You can do the horse in the show.
02:44Happy birthday.
02:45My bass player, Phillip, he is obsessed with the Padres, and we just went.
02:50Awesome.
02:50Um, he, he says he has to go take his boss for a walk, so he'll, like, take me to the
02:55mall and I shop around or whatever while we're on tour, and he's like, I'll take her to the
02:58mall so she's happy, whatever.
03:00So, we went to Lids the other day, and I saw, like, LA hats and all these hats, and I was
03:04like, you know, if they had a yellow or, like, a blue or a purple, I said, maybe I would wear
03:09the Padres, and he was like, get out, like, don't even talk about LA, and he, like, he's
03:13like, no, and I'm like, I don't like the browns, so when I walk on the bus, I'm going
03:16to wear this.
03:17Yes.
03:17And it's yellow, like, he's going to die.
03:20Oh, my God, I love it.
03:20We need a video of that.
03:21Okay, I'll make sure.
03:22Would you post it for us?
03:23That would be so fabulous.
03:25Okay, they'll remind me.
03:25I'll tell them.
03:26All right, perfect.
03:27We'll tell your people.
03:28Tell them.
03:28Tell them.
03:28That thrills us.
03:29I'm not kidding.
03:30Like, this is, and we just, this just happened two days ago.
03:32See, it was meant to be.
03:33It really was.
03:34That's so great.
03:35I love it.
03:35Did you have a nice, did you have a nice birthday?
03:37I had a great birthday.
03:38Yeah.
03:38I drank wine and tequila shots.
03:40All right.
03:41So, I feel great.
03:47Bloody Mary?
03:48No.
03:49I could maybe do a Bloody Mary.
03:50I'm getting to the point where I'm going to have something.
03:52There's something about a Bloody Mary that, because it has, you know, the tomato juice
03:56in it.
03:56Totally.
03:57So, there's nutrients and everything that everybody's like, oh, thank God, something
03:59healthy.
04:00You know, and it just, and you get a little bit of the vodka, so it just kind of calms
04:03everything down.
04:03I love that mindset.
04:04No, I could not have another drink.
04:05I'll just take a Bloody Mary.
04:06I mean, but I'll have a Bloody Mary.
04:07I'm definitely going to have some rosé before my sets.
04:09All right.
04:09Awesome.
04:10But I had a great birthday.
04:10We do have another gift.
04:12So, you need a bandana, as you know.
04:14I do.
04:14And we don't have bandanas.
04:16We've got John and Tam-danas.
04:18Stop it.
04:18So, again, you might want to.
04:20And again, a colorist she seems to like.
04:22I mean, it's, oh.
04:23Oh, my God.
04:24This is like the perfect outfit for me right here.
04:26So, there you go.
04:27I love it.
04:29That's so awesome.
04:30I love.
04:31Now, question number three, or number one, no pressure.
04:35When do you come back to San Diego?
04:36Yeah.
04:37Hopefully soon.
04:38Okay.
04:39Trust me.
04:40Phil asks me all the time, because he wants to play in San Diego.
04:42So, soon.
04:43Trust me, I would play all my shows in San Diego, just so you know.
04:47No offense to everybody else.
04:48Well, it's hard for anybody to get mad about that statement, because it is one of the most
04:54beautiful places to play a show.
04:55It really is.
04:56Carly, last time, when you were around with us with your mom, I flippantly said, tell
05:01your mom they're not all this good about the interview that we had.
05:04And you, I don't know if it was just because we were in the moment, but you instantly said,
05:08yeah, mom, trust me, they're not all this good.
05:11Which was a very nice compliment to us.
05:13I'm not fishing here, but I, no, just as quickly as you said, it means that you probably have
05:19five or six top of your mind instances where they were garbage.
05:24I don't want you to call anybody out.
05:26If you want to, feel free.
05:27Can you imagine?
05:27I don't want you to call anybody out, but I mean, what's like a question that you've
05:32been asked from one of the clowns that do what we do, where you're like, are you out of your
05:36mind?
05:36Did you really just ask me that?
05:38Do you know what I get tired of, if I'm honest?
05:41And I really did mean it, by the way.
05:42Um, when it's like bottom of the barrel, very like generic, like you read my bio from like
05:482016 and you're still asking me like about, Oh, so you moved to Nashville after Dollywood.
05:53And like, I just, there's no like personal communication that's happening.
05:58Um, or like when somebody just like really presses me on something that I'm like hard
06:02trying to be like, I don't really want to talk about that.
06:04You know, that kind of makes me mad.
06:06You know, it's, it's that person that thinks they're being cutting edge.
06:09You're not.
06:09I'm going to get something out here and you've, you, there can't be anything you haven't
06:12heard.
06:13I mean, so stop.
06:15Just stop.
06:16Just be nice.
06:17And like, can you, are you able to tell them time out, stop the bullshit?
06:20Oh, I've, I mean, stopped in an interview before.
06:22Oh, I bet you have.
06:23Oh yeah.
06:24With that look, I bet you have.
06:26Was it a guy being inappropriate?
06:28Yeah.
06:28I actually, Hmm.
06:30Bill Lubitz had to stop the interview.
06:32Um, I had a man, I had a low cut shirt on.
06:34He's still on radio.
06:35It's super fun.
06:36I get to see him all the time.
06:37Let's call him out.
06:37And he, we took a picture and he was like, wow, your chest looks so good.
06:41And I was like, wow, I'm going to get you fired right now.
06:44Oh my God.
06:45And now he won't even look in my direction because it doesn't deserve to look in your direction.
06:49It's just gross.
06:49Just nasty.
06:50Like just don't.
06:51But my favorite is like, if another like sweet other men in radio, if they like accidentally
06:56like touch her on the side, they're like, I'm so sorry.
06:58And it's like, it's fine.
06:59Well, we have to do that.
07:00We have to.
07:01Yeah.
07:01I'm at a point now.
07:02And sometimes I get made fun of for it.
07:04When I'm asking a listener, is it okay if I put my arm around you for the picture?
07:08Fair.
07:08Because I, you know, I've got.
07:10Like you're not going to be like nice rack.
07:12Right.
07:13You know.
07:14God.
07:14I've got a 26 year old.
07:16I'm sorry.
07:1626 year old and 24 year old daughter.
07:18And he probably did too.
07:20Ugh.
07:21Gross.
07:21I'm sorry.
07:22Yeah, it's okay.
07:22It's been years.
07:23There's a classic sitcom called Cheers and I'm dating myself, but there's a line.
07:27I'll always remember that when Cliff Clavin says, I'm ashamed God made me a man.
07:31And Carla comes back and says, I don't think God's doing a lot of bragging about it either.
07:35And I just, I just, I'm sorry.
07:39It's okay.
07:39As a man that disgusts me.
07:41And I know it's so prevalent and I know it's, it's, it's garbage.
07:45And just because a person looks the way they look or it has certain, whatever.
07:50Shut up.
07:50It's just like, just don't, just don't, don't.
07:53And yeah, I'm at a point where I'm like, next.
07:56So he got in trouble.
07:58We should.
07:58He should not be employed.
08:00No, he shouldn't, but he still is.
08:01You are always going to be one of our favorites.
08:03Thanks.
08:04Cannot wait to watch you perform tonight and not almost pass out from dehydration.
08:07Yes.
08:07None of that.
08:08We're not having any of that.
08:09And I'm going to get you this video because he's going to die.
08:11Like, that's so funny.
08:12I love it.
08:13Awesome.
08:13You always have an empty seat here that can be filled by you.
08:18I need to bring my mom next time.
08:19Yes.
08:20She's never been to California.
08:21She needs to come visit.
08:22Okay.
08:23We'll have her over.
08:23We'll make her a nice meal.
08:24Oh my God.
08:24It's much easier to breathe in San Diego than it is here in the desert.
08:27Absolutely.
08:27Yeah.
08:28She could not breathe here.
08:28Where I live, Crest, California, people from Hollywood who suffered from lung disease,
08:32that's why they started going up there.
08:33No way.
08:34That's where I live.
08:34It's a sign.
08:35I need to bring her.
08:35There you go.
08:36Okay, cool.
08:36We're just here for you.
08:37Awesome.
08:38All right.
08:38Thanks, Carly Pierce.
08:39All right.
