00:00You said you wanted to cause discussion and make change.

00:04So what conversations did you want to start as part of the show

00:07and what messages did you want to convey?

00:10Well, first things first, we're dramatists, right?

00:11So we weren't thinking like politicians when we were making it.

00:15We were trying to make a compelling drama that people would watch.

00:19For me, I like drama as the starting point of conversation.

00:24I think drama works best when it poses a question

00:27and the best bit about drama is the conversation that happens afterwards.

00:32You know, that I've always wanted to be someone that spoke to stuff.

00:39That, you know, when I was growing up, things like, you know,

00:43Boys from the Black Stuff, things like Cathy Come Home,

00:45they spoke to me heavily and I've always wanted to make the sort of shows

00:49that provoke those conversations.

00:51In terms of the conversations that I hoped would happen after the show,

00:55they've happened at a faster rate than I could ever possibly have imagined.

01:01And the conversations, I think, work on all sorts of different levels.

01:05It's the conversations on the sofa.

01:08You know, I grew up watching EastEnders with my mum

01:10and talking about it with her afterwards.

01:13I still remember the stuff that we talked about and what it provoked in me

01:17and the lessons it taught me about my own humanity.

01:20So, you know, if it's a big deal, it's like a little bit of a good idea.

01:26But I think it's pretty important if I could just imagine this conversation

01:28and watching this conversation be able to be the same.

01:32We're going to see a little bit of a bit of a good idea.

01:34But I wanted to break down the chat,

01:36and I've I want to talk about it,

01:38and see what it is coming out of the energy.

01:41I know there's going to be a little bit of a good idea.
