Is this UK's strictest village?
Transcript
00:00This village in the Wentworth estate has been dubbed as UK's strictest village by national press.
00:08It's often overshadowed by the big house that's of course Wentworth Woodhouse.
00:13So we thought we'd go along to try it out and then we realised that these olive green doors
00:20as well as the brilliant white windows weren't just a coincidence that they all matched.
00:26Even the timber door frames and the gutters were all coordinated.
00:32This is because nobody here actually owns their property.
00:36The whole estate is owned by the Fitzwilliam Wentworth estate.
00:40It's a trust who are in control of the area.
00:44And each villager before moving in and whilst having a long-term lease there
00:49they must adhere to the design guide set out by the trust on their website.
00:54The trust says its aim is to conserve this rural oasis set in an urban sea.
01:02We can see exactly how that is preserved today when you wander around the village
01:07that is often overshadowed by Wentworth Woodhouse or even the nearby popular garden centre.
01:13But it is well worth a visit for tourists and those seeking for a tranquil place to retire
01:20can rest in the knowledge that everywhere here is in keeping with the local history of the place.
