00:00Unbelievably, a trial is beginning for something that happened.
00:04Almost nine years.
00:06Kim Kardashian was tied up and thrown in a bathtub.
00:12At gunpoint.
00:13At gunpoint, and the robbers made off with nearly $10 million in jewelry.
00:19They are now the nine people, five of them who were involved directly with the assault on Kim,
00:27and then five others who were accomplices, now going on trial.
00:32They're calling them the Grandpa Group.
00:34Yeah.
00:35In fact, they were between 60 and 80 years old when the crime occurred.
00:41It's sort of like a criminal cocoon.
00:43By the way, one of them has died in the interim,
00:47and another one has dementia so severe that, in fact, he was deemed he was not fixed in trial.
00:53You've got to wonder, given their age, why did it take nine years?
00:58Because a lot can happen in nine years.
00:59I was wondering the same thing.
01:00I read this morning that part of it had to do with other major events that happened in Paris,
01:06like the bombings, that they were busy trying the defendants in those cases.
01:12But Kim is going to testify.
01:14She's going to testify on May 13th.
01:16So she's going to fly over there.
01:18I'm assuming Courtney and Kendall may testify, too, because if you remember,
01:23they were at that hotel, went to a club, and took Kim's bodyguard.
01:28So she was alone when these guys posed as police officers and broke into the hotel suite.
01:37But the trial started today.
01:39And they picked a jury.
01:40And they picked a jury.
01:41Yeah, jury selection was underway.
01:44They have apparently selected a jury.
01:46Now, what's interesting to me here is that in France, jury trials are very rare.
01:50They're only for the most heinous of crimes.
01:52Here in America, we have them all the time.
01:54There's probably a population that's used to hearing testimony in a jury trial and so forth.
02:01In France, it's very rare.
02:02So even selecting them a case of this nature and so high profile,
02:06it's going to be an odd thing in France.
02:07It's probably going to be an absolute media bonanza, just given the nature of it.
02:11Six jurors were picked today.
02:12Okay, so testimony begins tomorrow.
02:15And, you know, it's really interesting because Kim is testifying May 13th.
02:22That's two and a half weeks out.
02:23Two and a half weeks into it.
02:24This ain't going to be a quick thing.
02:25No, they think the trial is going to last until, I think they said May 22nd is the projected closing date.
02:32And then they expect a verdict by May 23rd.
02:35It's really interesting that Kim has been such a proponent to get people out of prison who she says are either innocent or have served more than their fair share of time.
02:46And now she is a crime victim testifying for the prosecution.
02:50It's interesting.
02:50Hi, I'm Andy from Burberry Hills.
02:53And look, I do want the best for Kim.
02:55I think that she deserves to get justice.
02:59I really hope that she goes all the way to get these guys to jail.
03:03But also, like, let's keep it real.
03:05It has been a decade.
03:06Like you said, one of the guys is dead.
03:08The other one doesn't even remember what happened.
03:10And I think Kim is also going through so much dealing with, you know, Kanye's crazy ass that it's just going to be too much for her.
03:18But I really, really, really hope that she gets what she needs, some closure to move on, or at least a great season for the Kardashians next year, you know?
03:27Oh, it's going to be on the show.
03:28It will be on the show for sure.
03:30Yeah.
03:30I mean, it's going to be really interesting.
03:32By the way, I know this sounds frivolous, but it's not.
03:35It matters in a lot of these cases what she's going to wear in court.
03:38And I'm actually really serious.
03:40Well, there's no doubt that Kim Kardashian's celebrity, you talk about this all the time, your famous Dolly Parton example.
03:46That's what I was thinking.
03:47That her celebrity is going to sway the jury one way or another.
03:51For sure.
03:52You would think.
