After the Pahalgam terror attack, the debate reignites: Should India cut all sports ties with Pakistan beyond just cricket?
Transcript
00:00The BCCI have suspended their bilateral ties with the PCB that is with Pakistan for more than a decade now 2012 was the last time that you had a bilateral series and this is a stand that India has had since then so it's been a good 13 years that India has decided not to play Pakistan in bilateral series
00:30till they stop cross-border terrorism yet you still have instances of cross-border terrorism so the first question that comes to your mind is has India's stance not to play Pakistan in cricket helped in any way stop terrorism I'm afraid the answer to that is no then comes the question what about playing cricket with Pakistan when it comes to multinational tournaments and I think that is something that is beyond India's control the only way that India can avoid
00:59playing Pakistan in multinational tournaments are to one that they'll have to forfeit their match if they are drawn against Pakistan they forfeit that game or two is which is a tougher step to take is to then get Pakistan isolated at the international stage whereby the ICC the international body then decides not to have Pakistan participate in any of these tournaments that includes World Cups and so on and so forth I think the second step is going to be next to impossible
01:29I don't think it's going to be on the same footing that is something that is something that will have to be done at a diplomatic level I don't think it can be done by the cricketing board levels I don't think the BCCI within themselves have the power to do that we've seen it in Asia Cups before as well where the Indian team has decided not to travel to Pakistan and it does hurt the Pakistan cricket economy but as I said earlier even that does it really hurt Pakistan to an extent
01:59the other question is no the other question is that while cricket is something that the Indian side has taken a hard stance towards it does not happen in other sports you had the Indian covered detrim travel to Pakistan and play a tournament you had the Indian Davis Cup team the tennis team okay these teams may not be as high profile as cricketing team but they are national teams nonetheless is it now high time that that needs to be stopped as well if you ask
02:29it's a way of politics but it's easier said than done sports is again a recreation it is a way of extending a hand of friendship towards another country but if you're going to have other activities that are happening in terms of terrorism being funded from Pakistan soil if that is going to continue then I don't think it makes any sense to have any sporting ties with Pakistan whether it be on the cricket pitch or any other sporting arena at all
