Cardiff City have been relegated to League One for the first time since 2003, following a goalless draw with West Brom. The Bluebirds managed only nine wins in 45 Championship matches, finishing bottom of the table. Caretaker player-manager Aaron Ramsey expressed deep disappointment, acknowledging the team’s underperformance.
The club now faces significant challenges, including financial concerns and the need for a managerial overhaul.

00:00Cardiff City were relegated from the Championship to League One on Saturday, a dismal day for
00:11the club certainly and for all associated with it. The club of course now will play
00:15in the third tier of English football somewhere it certainly does not want to be having been
00:20a Premier League club in the not so distant past but this season has simply not been good
00:25enough from a footballing perspective. Players of course not doing enough on the pitch to secure
00:32Cardiff's survival in the Championship. Others could still yet join them, the rest of the relegation
00:37picture is yet to be determined in the Championship but certainly one thing is certain in that is that
00:42Cardiff are going down to League One. So what does this mean for the club and what has the reaction
00:49been to it? Well obviously in terms of supporter reaction, you know sadness, dismay. On the field
00:58of course players not happy with the way they performed, managers, staff just the same as well.
01:05And also where do they go from here? Well let's go now to Charles Hague Jones who can tell us more
01:11about what happened on Saturday, how Cardiff's relegation was confirmed and what it means for
01:18the club going forward as well as they look to prepare for a season in England's third tier to come
01:24and just how they will look to get out of it as quickly as possible.
01:31Yeah so Cardiff City relegated to League One obviously not the outcome that any Bluebird fan
01:38would have wanted at the start of the season. I mean when they started making some some clever
01:42signings in the summer you thought maybe they could have even pushed for the playoff places again.
01:47I mean it's been the last few seasons has been a continued issue. You feel it's just been a
01:55downward spiral though. I mean it really started off very early on in the summer actually when
02:00fans didn't even know who the manager was going to be. Obviously Errol Bullock's time and then
02:05Omeriza as well and they were unsure you know letters to the open letters from supporter groups to the club.
02:12Sort of saying that the identity, the communication is so poor at the moment.
02:19You know a few things that stand out for me is a lack of goals. I mean they haven't had anywhere near
02:24enough goal scorers throughout the side. They just haven't really you know they've really struggled in
02:29terms of finding the back of the net throughout the entire season. You know no reliable regular goal
02:34scorers to turn games in their favor. I think in the championship the higher you go up the English
02:39divisions it's so important. Obviously they are gold dust at times these strikers who get you 20
02:45plus goals a season. But you know to not have anyone really near that obviously you know Robinson was
02:51was on a decent vein of form at one point. But you know he has to struggle to score consistently
02:57across the entire campaign. You know managerial instability as I've mentioned before and I've
03:02mentioned across the entire season really. You know you felt at times when Cardiff were on a
03:08decent little run of form that there were some underlying problems beneath the cracks beneath the
03:13surfaces. You know frequent changes, uncertainty around the manager's position went straight into
03:20the start of the season and you cannot begin any season no matter what level you are. You can't
03:25begin a season being unclear because then the players start to think what's going on here.
03:32You know there's a lack of clear consistent tactical identity as well so it's not just the fans who feel
03:37it. You know you felt that the players will feel that as well on the pitch and that sort of showed. I
03:42mean it was just a downward spiral. There was a lot of games with a lot of the defensive lapses,
03:48defensive problems and then you know you go up the other end. I mean we saw in their recent game which
03:54actually confirmed their relegation. The amount of times they hit the post or just can't convert
03:59their chances is so heartbreaking for the fans. Defensive frailties as I say, too many soft goals
04:06conceded, too many errors, lack of organisation under pressure. In short, League One is not a place that
04:13the Bluebirds want to be. However, the fans have to look at it and look at the bigger picture, look at the
04:19future and hopefully get behind a manager who's ready to believe in a project and take them straight
04:24back up to the Championship. Do they look like the likes of Wolves, Birmingham City who dropped down,
04:31had a refresh and come straight back at the first time of asking? That's going to be the plan for
04:35Cardiff City. I don't want to say they're long but maybe it's needed in terms of where they are and their future as a club.
04:43I don't want to say they're long but I don't want to say they're long but I don't want to say they're long.
