00:00:46Waiting can be hard.
00:00:48.
00:00:50When you've spent a long time waiting,
00:00:52the weight can feel heavy.
00:00:54Last time we waited,
00:00:58we couldn't even shout about it.
00:01:02But this time, it's different.
00:01:06No asterisks.
00:01:08Nothing.
00:01:10Evening, I'll only keep you waiting a moment longer
00:01:14to save Danny Murphy and Shea Gibbiner with us.
00:01:16Let's get straight to Anfield.
00:01:18Here's Steve Wilson.
00:01:20And so, the coronation.
00:01:22Arsenal's chase really became more theoretical than threatening
00:01:24some time ago.
00:01:26And today will surely be the day that Liverpool win their 20th league title.
00:01:30That's what the packed seats and streets around Anfield believe.
00:01:34On a slot makes two changes to the 11, which won at Leicester last weekend.
00:01:36Alexander Arnold and Robertson in for Bradley and Simicas.
00:01:40Salah has gone six games without a goal, but he's got 15 against Tottenham in his career,
00:01:46including strikes for both Basel and Fiorentina.
00:01:48Four days out from the first leg of their Europa League semi-final.
00:01:52Ange Postacoglu makes eight Tottenham changes to the 11,
00:01:54which started the defeat to Nottingham Forest.
00:01:56Only Vicario, Spence and Tell start again.
00:01:58On the face of it, it is an attacking selection, but there's still no Son Heung-min.
00:02:12Tottenham Hotspur have won one of their last 30 visits in the league to Anfield.
00:02:30Van Dijk looking for Gakpo.
00:02:34They had a little poke out at Cody Gakpo and it's gone behind for a corner kick to Liverpool.
00:02:40It wasn't the easiest ball to control this.
00:02:44Cody Gakpo did pretty well.
00:02:46Pretty close to being offside.
00:02:48I guess the verdict is that Vicario carried that behind the line.
00:02:52Vicario with a punch.
00:02:56Sobberslay mishit it.
00:03:00Oh, that's not far away.
00:03:02That's brilliant from Gakpo.
00:03:04Well, if this had gone in, it would have taken the roof off.
00:03:08Sobberslay mishit it.
00:03:10Gakpo very nearly improvised an opener.
00:03:16Well, there are so many former greats of Liverpool here today.
00:03:20Perhaps none greater than Kenny Dalglish.
00:03:22Canonte under a bit of pressure.
00:03:34And Tottenham have a corner kick.
00:03:36They're number ten to take.
00:03:38And the header is good and it's in.
00:03:48Tottenham Hotspur through Dominic Solanke take the lead.
00:03:50The former Liverpool striker who only ever scored once for Liverpool in his time at the club has headed Spurs in front of Anfield.
00:04:02That's a terrific header.
00:04:04Classic header by Solanke.
00:04:08Liverpool 0, Tottenham Hotspur 1.
00:04:12Liverpool have certainly not been at their best of late.
00:04:16Haven't really needed to be.
00:04:18But one would like to cross the line in style with a swagger rather than a stumble.
00:04:24Canate.
00:04:26Ah, it's a great ball.
00:04:28Sobberslay.
00:04:30That's a great ball, Sopaslai, Luis Diaz flags up, one count.
00:04:44Sopaslai is not offside there you would say. Danso would appear to me to be playing him
00:04:49on. Luis Diaz definitely isn't offside. We'll get the semi-automated offside to determine
00:04:59whether this is a goal or not. And it's a goal to Liverpool, it's one apiece.
00:05:09Luis Diaz, a roar of approval, a sigh of relief, an equaliser for Liverpool. Here's the technology,
00:05:20it's Danso's shoulder. It's a brilliant ball by Salah, great run by Sopaslai. And an easy
00:05:29finish for Luis Diaz. It's his 16th of the season in all competitions and Liverpool are level.
00:05:43Gravenberg, Salah.
00:05:51Madison in a bit of a corner, he's found Mattis Tell. And Gray was a little slow to react,
00:05:59Gravenberg has won that play, it'll go on! And Liverpool lead, Alexis McAllister. If that is the goal,
00:06:09it's some way to win a title because he's absolutely hammered that into the roof of the Tottenham net.
00:06:181-0 down, 2-1 up to Thunderbolt from Alexis McAllister.
00:06:26Credit Gravenberg, got himself in front of Archie Gray. And then it's a lash into the Anfield road net.
00:06:39And Liverpool have turned it around. 1-0 down after 12 minutes, 2-1 up after 24.
00:06:46Salah in behind Udoggi. I think Salah got the last touch on that. No, it's going to be a corner kick.
00:06:591-0 down after 12 minutes, 2-0 down after 12 minutes, 2-0 down after 12 minutes.
00:07:09McAllister's corner, Bergwahl's little glance, Gakpo and still...
00:07:14And that is probably the championship for Liverpool.
00:07:21They have roared into a 3-1 lead with three goals in around about 17 minutes.
00:07:33Gakpo, great composure, found the corner.
00:07:40It's a really good goal. Liverpool 3, Tottenham Hotspur 1.
00:07:45And all that remains for Liverpool is to enjoy the day and celebrate hard.
00:07:56And they're currently 16th in the Premier League.
00:07:58The last time Tottenham Hotspur finished lower than that in the top flight.
00:08:02They were relegated in 1977.
00:08:05Gernan Johnson off after this. Dominic Solanke is in the middle.
00:08:14Mattis Tell's arriving towards the back post.
00:08:16And there he is, and Granate. Did he catch Tell?
00:08:24There's a lovely ball in.
00:08:29Tell is still down.
00:08:30Canate is not comfortable either.
00:08:36Canate knew he was coming.
00:08:39Gets the ball, guides it actually through the legs of Mattis Tell.
00:08:42It has been checked and cleared by Craig Pawson.
00:08:46There's going to be no Tottenham penalty.
00:08:55Great to see Alan Hansen here.
00:09:00It is.
00:09:04Virgil van Dijk into Alexis McAllister.
00:09:14Looking for an angle, can't find it.
00:09:15Gakpo finds McAllister and it's brilliant.
00:09:19Trying to set up Mohamed Salah.
00:09:24But Gakpo could have simply struck it into the back of the net.
00:09:27It was brilliant already.
00:09:29Didn't need the extra flourish.
00:09:33He's taking unselfishness to an extreme.
00:09:38You wouldn't have got Sadio Mane doing that a few years back.
00:09:43Won the league, of course, with Feyenoord.
00:09:46It is a remarkable debut campaign.
00:09:51This will actually be the third time Liverpool have clinched a title at home to Tottenham Hotspur 1982.
00:09:57And again in 1988.
00:10:01Kuliszewski here for Tottenham.
00:10:03Richard Spencer, a willing runner to his right, Kuliszewski.
00:10:11McAllister prodding it to Soboslai.
00:10:14Liverpool have a four-man counter here.
00:10:16It's four on to four.
00:10:18Soboslai.
00:10:19Salah, dangerous.
00:10:27And that is the Premier League one by the Premier League's player of the season, Mohamed Salah.
00:10:34He has his goal.
00:10:39That is some selfie.
00:10:42How lucky are they?
00:10:45And Mohamed Salah surpasses Sergio Aguero with his 185th Premier League goal.
00:10:54His 28th Premier League goal of the season.
00:10:59To go along with 18 assists, extending what is already a new record for a 38-game campaign.
00:11:07Nobody does it better, certainly not this season, than Mohamed Salah.
00:11:13Alexander-Arnold into Curtis Jones.
00:11:15Alexander-Arnold, oh, Jota.
00:11:25And it ricochets.
00:11:27And Salah is there!
00:11:31Might well be an own goal, this.
00:11:37It just ricocheted beautifully.
00:11:39There was a possibility of a handball against Diogo Jota, but there is a check, obviously.
00:11:45An attacker who doesn't score a goal can accidentally handle the ball in the builder.
00:11:52Salah was not in an offside position.
00:11:56It's been checked.
00:11:58It's been cleared.
00:12:00In a doggy own goal.
00:12:05Inside, outside.
00:12:07All the red football fans of the city of Liverpool will be celebrating.
00:12:15And the Blues might just stay at home tonight.
00:12:17Spence shielding it away from Jota, but then dispossessed.
00:12:24And Jota into Darwin Nunez.
00:12:27Salah to his right.
00:12:28Nunez has a look.
00:12:30And the pass sends Salah wide.
00:12:32It's Elliott.
00:12:35And still.
00:12:37And a great block.
00:12:38Ben Davies half away.
00:12:39Elliott once again.
00:12:42And Robertson out of play.
00:12:44Salah made the block.
00:12:45But the pass from Darwin Nunez was not one that gave Salah much chance.
00:12:52Nice touch.
00:13:02They're ready to celebrate.
00:13:04They're ready to go.
00:13:05Liverpool are the champions of England for the 20th time in Arneslot's first season in the country.
00:13:19Just a perfect day for Liverpool Football Club.
00:13:25Five years ago, the celebrations were in an empty stadium.
00:13:30A very different Anfield today.
00:13:33Liverpool are the champions.
00:13:36Liverpool five.
00:13:38Tottenham one.
00:13:41Arne, firstly, many congratulations.
00:13:45Pretty wild today.
00:13:46You had to do it the hard way as well, actually.
00:13:49Yeah, by going 1-0 down.
00:13:50And that's true.
00:13:51But I think the moment when we arrived with the bus,
00:13:56everybody could feel that we were never, never, never going to lose this game.
00:14:00The fans were so supportive before the game, during the game,
00:14:04that even when we were 1-0 down, you could feel that this team and these fans were able to get this one over the line.
00:14:11You are the first Dutch coach to win the Premier League.
00:14:14That must make you very proud and will make your country proud.
00:14:17It's special, very special.
00:14:20To be the first one is something that will never change.
00:14:23And that is very special, especially at a club like this, where it's not that we've won it nine
00:14:29out of ten times in the last ten seasons, but we did win it twice in the last five seasons.
00:14:33Of course, last time you won it, you experienced what it felt like to win the Premier League,
00:14:39but you didn't experience what it was to hear winning the Premier League, because there was nobody here.
00:14:44Very different today.
00:14:45Yeah, completely different.
00:14:46The feeling is unbelievable.
00:14:48To play also home and be able to win it by winning the game is incredible.
00:14:52A year ago, Jurgen Klopp stood out there and started singing your name.
00:15:04I believe that you've done something similar in return.
00:15:07Has he actually been in touch with you and said, well done?
00:15:10There is a message from him.
00:15:11We haven't seen it yet.
00:15:12So many, many moments in this season, the two of us had either WhatsApp contact or we spoke each other.
00:15:19So I think he showed last season when he said farewell, what a kind of human being he is by
00:15:27introducing me the way he did.
00:15:29And that, of course, helped.
00:15:30But the thing that helped most was that he left the team behind that is able to win a trophy.
00:15:36I'm absolutely certain that there are lots of individual prizes coming your way at the end of
00:15:41the season, Golden Boot and Footballer of the Year and all that stuff.
00:15:44But how much more important is it to do it with the team?
00:15:47It's incredible.
00:15:49Again, I would say like winning the Premier League and be that involved and have the impact for the
00:15:54team that like like what I did is incredible.
00:15:58That's also what I had the conversation with the boy the other day and I told him this one
00:16:01for me personally will feel more special because the goal that I'm involved and also the
00:16:09Jurgen is not here and other players that I respect a lot and they appreciate their time with us.
00:16:14But you'll be able to do it with a new manager, with a new team.
00:16:17It just shows that that's what I'm capable of.
00:16:20We started the game off decently.
00:16:23Like I said, we got in front.
00:16:24But apart from that, I thought, you know, we were
00:16:28we were creating some moments and really didn't give them too many openings.
00:16:32But we obviously conceded a couple of really soft goals for us.
00:16:35And once I get in front, especially with this atmosphere today,
00:16:38it was always going to be hard for us to claw that back. And yeah, that's how it proved to be.
00:16:42Just about the manager, Arna Slott, the job that he has done
00:16:46in his first season in English football, in his first season in this football club,
00:16:50is really remarkable.
00:16:52It's incredible.
00:16:52Incredible. People think now it's going to be easier, but now it's going to be difficult
00:16:56because also other teams will try to catch us next season and the job will be harder for him.
00:17:02But yeah, it's a moment we need to enjoy now and we think about next season, next season.
00:17:06I think a great Liverpool manager when he won the league was asked,
00:17:09what can you do now? And he said, go and win it again.
00:17:14That is something we're definitely going to try next season.
00:17:17But first of all, we're going to enjoy the last few games we're going to play.
00:17:21And then we will, for sure, be really good next season again.
00:17:28It's difficult to know where to start, actually, because, as Steve Wilson said a couple of times
00:17:32there, the whole thing has been remarkable. But every aspect of the club has been so impressive
00:17:40this season.
00:17:40Well, he's the one that's guided the team to this amazing day. He's done a wonderful job.
00:17:46He's charismatic. He's warm. He's articulate. I remember the game after Man United, the way he
00:17:51spoke about the tactics, the game plan. So much to admire about him. He hasn't tweaked too much,
00:17:57but there's been subtle differences, which we'll talk about. The players have taken to him. The fans
00:18:02have taken to him. I mean, he's surpassed all expectation from even the most ardent Liverpool
00:18:07fans and pundits. I never thought they were going to win this title this season. He's been
00:18:11absolutely terrific and deserves a lot of credit. And as I said, the balance between small tweaks
00:18:17and leaving the good things in place has been brilliant. He's a very impressive individual,
00:18:22isn't he? He is. I think we probably sat here 12 months ago and said, what's going to happen
00:18:26after Jurgen Klopp leaves? There's going to be a massive drop off. You know, Liverpool could be in
00:18:30a bit of a reshuffle job for a few years. We've just seen, obviously, at Man United, what's happened
00:18:35there, going through many managers and many players. But this guy's come in. He just said in his interview,
00:18:39either Jurgen Klopp left, but he left his squad behind and he had left a really strong squad.
00:18:44And he's just gone and gone, you know what? I've got me a fresh voice in the changing room and changed
00:18:48a few things, as we mentioned, and got it spot on. You've both been in successful squads where there
00:18:54have then been changes. There are so many really good pieces in the papers today. Jonathan Northcroft
00:19:00wrote one about Jurgen Klopp's final speech in the dressing room was, what an opportunity for you
00:19:07players. The old guy is leaving. You've all got to prove yourselves for the new guy.
00:19:12What a speech by him and what a mindset for the players to then take on.
00:19:17Well, top players will embrace a new voice, especially an intelligent one. But it's more
00:19:22credit to Klopp for the environment that he set and the mindset he gave those players,
00:19:27because they've always been, their character's always been there, their resilience. There's been
00:19:31so much to admire in that respect from the Liverpool squad. I do think that after not
00:19:36really making any, well they made the one signing in the summer, there was a little bit of negativity,
00:19:40thinking, how can this squad push on? But he's had his, the best defender in the Premier League,
00:19:47fit, flying, leading the team. The best striker in the Premier League this season in Salah has been
00:19:51amazing. And I think he's had the best midfielder in Graven Birch as well, who's,
00:19:55who's, who's been Slott's master, masterstroke. Right. He's, we'll talk about different aspects
00:20:02of what he's done, but Graven Birch, playing in that new role. I mean, Slott will have seen
00:20:07him play in that role for Ajax. He did play there for them. So it's not a completely new position,
00:20:12but it's new in this division. And he was under the microscope. He didn't play much last season.
00:20:17There was a talk that Klopp didn't fancy him. But all aspects of his game, we saw a great pass there.
00:20:22Running with the ball from a deep line position and getting your team up the pitch is something
00:20:27he does really, really well. And Slott obviously knew that. And he's embraced it. He's given the
00:20:33confidence to play every week. He's not looking over his shoulder, whether he's going to be in
00:20:36the team. This against United was probably epitomized the type of interceptions, brilliant at that,
00:20:42picking the right pass, because obviously he's used to playing higher up the pitch more recently.
00:20:46So therefore he's good when he gets higher up the pitch, but you have to take responsibility to get on the
00:20:50ball. Constantly looking for it, always knows where people are. And as you can see, this little bit,
00:20:57that's what he does better than anyone in the Premier League at the moment. OK, the pass didn't come on.
00:21:00Is he more old school as a midfielder? I mean that in the most complimentary way, i.e. he can do
00:21:07everything. Yes. He's not pigeonholed as we've tended to do over the last decade, 15 years.
00:21:13Exactly that. Well, you expect midfielders. I know from changing a mindset of being an attacking
00:21:18midfielder to a deep line midfielder, how you really have to concentrate on your discipline,
00:21:22especially defensively, which we just saw there. It's really hard when your natural desire is to
00:21:27get past people, go forward to actually go, no, I've got to sit. I've got to be the one that stays.
00:21:32Now, he has got flexibility with McAllister at times, don't get me wrong, but to come into a team
00:21:38when you're under the microscope, everyone was disappointed when they didn't sign Zubimendi.
00:21:42Is he going to be good enough? Why haven't we signed anybody?
00:21:46He grasped the opportunity and he took it so, so. I think he's been brilliant.
00:21:50That also goes back to Slott's preparation before taking over, which was one, plenty of conversations
00:21:55with Klopp, which they've continued to have, but also Slott not only watching Liverpool games,
00:22:02but having the ability to watch footage of Liverpool training sessions, so that he can then see
00:22:08dynamics, what he might do with certain players. That all comes down to his preparation.
00:22:12Yeah, preparation's key. I think he's preparing long before he arrived at Liverpool, he really was.
00:22:17And, of course, Jurgen Klopp gave him everything he had to pass on. He had experienced players.
00:22:21Let's not forget we had the three players at a contract in the season as well.
00:22:24He managed that all season as well. I know two of them signed. Trent might leave,
00:22:27but that was a problem as well. Well, it didn't seem a problem. He managed to manage that.
00:22:30And I think the personalities within the changing room, Andy Robertson, Van Dijk, there's lots of
00:22:34leaders there. Mo Salah, there's leaders within that, and I think he leant heavy on them as well
00:22:38in his first season. But this spine is crucial, isn't it?
00:22:41Yeah, he left out the goalkeepers there, I might add. Right.
00:22:44No. Only because. I knew you were coming to them. I wanted to give you a bit of...
00:22:49I hear you. I hear you. Well, go on then, do the goalkeepers there.
00:22:52No, I think any Premier League team that wins the Premier League, you need to have a top goalkeeper,
00:22:55the spine of the team. But it starts with the goalkeeper. And I think Liverpool have had two
00:22:59top goalkeepers this year. You know, Craven Keller played ten games. But this guy, for me,
00:23:03Alisson's probably the best, not only the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, but actually the best,
00:23:06one of the best goalkeepers in the world, if you ask me. 1v1 situations, Mark, he's the best, I would say.
00:23:12He's just so quick off his line. He's so decisive. And he brings that presence to this team.
00:23:17You know, we talk about years gone by. You know, goalkeepers, Peter Cech,
00:23:20Peter Schmeichel, all these brilliant goalkeepers. Alisson is right up at the very top.
00:23:24You know, the reactions. We see this as a double deflection.
00:23:27No right to make this save. Absolutely brilliant save.
00:23:30And he's just, he has that presence and he has that calmness within the team.
00:23:34You know, again, it's another brilliant double save. He makes a 1v1 block a game with this chip
00:23:38from Kudos. Watch this for his feet getting back into position. He tips that onto the crossbar.
00:23:41No right to save it. He makes saves that all goalkeepers just simply don't make.
00:23:45And that's the difference for a team that won the Premier League.
00:23:47And then if they don't have him and they haven't had him at times.
00:23:50Yeah, this is obviously Man City, one of their biggest rivals for the Premier League.
00:23:53And that's a big key moment, for example, in the game, but in the season as well.
00:23:57And watch this for a save. This is, you know, the Premier League wasn't wrapped up at this stage.
00:24:00This was in the middle of the mix of the Premier League. Watch this for a brilliant save.
00:24:03Nathan Cuiven gets down so quick and not only just keeps it out, he gets it away from danger.
00:24:08And this is the shot at the end today. Van Dijk and the players know how important the goalkeeper is.
00:24:12And there's a special relationship. I think you need that as well from the centre half
00:24:15and your goalkeeper as well.
00:24:16And just a quick one as well. A couple of other things he's done, I think, which have been key.
00:24:20The Trent Alexander position, where he was so central in the field, much more under Klopp.
00:24:24He's played more as a full-back. He's had more of a balanced shape.
00:24:28And I think, obviously, we've talked before about the more measured approach at times,
00:24:32more possession, managing games, winning games when they don't play,
00:24:35so it's not been as chaotic. They do still have that dynamism.
00:24:38But there's a couple of other small tweaks that he's done.
00:24:40Just one more on Alisson, and you may have said this to me on the radio,
00:24:44or it may have been Rob Green who said it to me on the radio, I can't remember it,
00:24:46but for all the shot stopping and everything, the key to his brilliance is his footwork.
00:24:52Mm-hm. Is that right?
00:24:53Well, even that save he tipped onto the bar, that's all about footwork.
00:24:56But the biggest and the best compliment I could give him as well is his calmness.
00:24:59So when they step across that white line, they know they've got Alisson or Keller behind them,
00:25:03and they both bring a calmness to the team.
00:25:05We've seen other goalkeepers even today, watching the games today.
00:25:07There's a bit panic stations when they don't know what the keeper's going to do.
00:25:11When you're playing behind Alisson, he brings that confidence through the team.
00:25:14He does.
00:25:14And then in front of him, and you mentioned they tend to have the best player in the league
00:25:18in every position, but the Van Dijk-Canate partnership has flourished.
00:25:23Yeah, well, I think no doubt Canate's had his best season in Liverpool, sure.
00:25:28And that's partly because he's next to Van Dijk.
00:25:32But I think more to do with the manager giving him the confidence to play him week in, week out.
00:25:36Last season, he was in and out a little bit.
00:25:38There was times where clock-picked Kwanzaa ahead of him, even Gomez at times.
00:25:42And maybe he was losing a little bit of confidence in the fact, you know,
00:25:44you have a bad half-hour, a bad game, I'm going to get left out.
00:25:47I mean, you mentioned earlier the first game of the season, he didn't start.
00:25:51And at half-time, the lap had been causing Kwanzaa a few problems.
00:25:53And he put Canate right on, did a great job and left him in.
00:25:57And his confidence grew.
00:25:58But that partnership with those two is now being talked about.
00:26:01A lot of talk, Gabriel and Saliba, for a couple of seasons now.
00:26:04These two have matched them this season.
00:26:06These two have matched them.
00:26:08And look at the numbers, when they play together compared to when they don't.
00:26:12I mean, it really is stark.
00:26:15The only thing, we don't want to be in the same position next summer.
00:26:17Canate's only got a year left, so that needs sorting out.
00:26:20Yeah, but then one of the knock-on effects for Canate,
00:26:23I mean, look, you have no idea who may be interested in him
00:26:25or what a certain player wants.
00:26:27But once Canate knows that Van Dijk has signed for another two years
00:26:32and knows where that future of that defensive partnership is,
00:26:35that's a bigger sell to get him to sign, isn't it?
00:26:38Yeah, but again, it's the powers that be have to make a decision,
00:26:41I would say, this summer on Canate, because he has had a brilliant season.
00:26:44You're going to get maximum money from him now.
00:26:45You can't let him run down and go on a free transfer.
00:26:47He's still relatively young. And on the back of a brilliant season,
00:26:50you'd have to tie him down. And Van Dijk as well.
00:26:52You'd imagine he'll be in his ear as well.
00:26:54This could be the start of something major at the club.
00:26:56And the other player that they've tied down is Mo Salah,
00:27:00who, as Steve said, is likely to win Golden Boot and Player of the Year.
00:27:04Well, I think his form this season has surprised a few people.
00:27:08Not because they didn't expect him to score goals,
00:27:10but his assist levels have gone through the roof.
00:27:12His fitness looks incredible compared to maybe the season before.
00:27:17He looks happier, I think. I don't know if you agree with that.
00:27:20But when I watch him play, he seems to be smiling a hell of a lot more.
00:27:22Is his role ever so slightly different, say,
00:27:26because someone like Sir Bosley has gone a bit further forward as a midfielder?
00:27:30Or is his role not far off identical to what it was under Klopp for you?
00:27:34Well, the biggest difference, I saw a little interview he did where he talked about,
00:27:38he kind of said it jokingly, but he said,
00:27:40Slott doesn't want me to defend as much.
00:27:42And I think any forward player likes to hear that.
00:27:45Maybe because of the legs of Sir Bosley, maybe because of Graven Birch.
00:27:48You know, they've got such good legs in the team.
00:27:51I just think it's sometimes with a footballer,
00:27:52they find a relationship with the manager that,
00:27:55or a balance in the team that makes you feel really good.
00:27:58I think he looks super happy and content, hence him signing the contract.
00:28:02And there's no reason when you look at him physically that he's going to drop off.
00:28:06He said he wants to break the record for the number of goal involvements in a season,
00:28:11which, if you're a kind of grumpy old pundit, might annoy you.
00:28:15Like me? Because it's only become...
00:28:16Thinking he's talking about me.
00:28:19I mean, grumpy and old could apply to all three of us, to be honest with you.
00:28:22It's just the pundit thing I don't fall into.
00:28:24But it's a bit more of a new thing, goal involvements,
00:28:28but we've gone back through the stats to create the record.
00:28:31And he is on course to break it.
00:28:33Yeah, I think you mentioned in his interview as well, that's important to him as well.
00:28:36As Danny says, his assists have gone up this year as well.
00:28:38And of course, you'd imagine in the last few games,
00:28:40he'll add two goals and assists as well and probably get the top of that record.
00:28:44But what you would say, and Danny mentioned a really good point,
00:28:45Slot has actually said to him,
00:28:46yes, defend at times, but we want you to have your energy and your legs going forward.
00:28:51And there was a period this season, he was unplayable, unstoppable.
00:28:54Everything he'd done turned to goals.
00:28:56And that's when Liverpool really kicked on.
00:28:58I think it's also worth saying as well, the other forward players have all chipped in.
00:29:02And when you think about another little tweak giving Slot more kudos here,
00:29:05Diaz played a lot of games centre-forward.
00:29:08And he didn't play centre-forward for Klopp very often, if at all.
00:29:11And that's partly because he didn't fancy Darwin, which is obvious with the lack of minutes.
00:29:14But I also think he played Diaz high, the tenacity, you know, that ability to run with the ball
00:29:20and the different qualities he's got, which has also helped Salah at times.
00:29:24They've had some nice combinations.
00:29:26It, you know, it doesn't happen very often, does it, this?
00:29:29But you also have to say, for everybody involved in the running of the club, fair play.
00:29:34Because they identified the right man, they've stayed calm over contract negotiations,
00:29:40and everything has been incredibly smooth.
00:29:43It feels that way, doesn't it?
00:29:44It feels like they're in really good hands, recruitment's good.
00:29:47They've now got a super amount of money to spend this summer.
00:29:50I also was amazed they didn't get someone in in January, just to reinforce,
00:29:54but they didn't feel the need to.
00:29:55It feels like all the decisions they're making, they're getting right.
00:29:58Mostly the manager.
00:29:59I think he's got charisma as well.
00:30:00He's got a sparkle in his eye.
00:30:02I think the players want to play. You can tell that today after the celebrations as well.
00:30:06They're all hugging him and whatever.
00:30:08And even when he's singing Jurgen Klopp's name,
00:30:10they come and spray him with a champagne and whatever.
00:30:12He's got a connection straight away.
00:30:14And you know, Dan, the fans as well, they've taken to him big time.
00:30:17He's a hero already, isn't he?
00:30:19That today is amazing for so many Liverpool fans who've never had the experience
00:30:23of watching Liverpool win a title.
00:30:24I've been lucky enough to have that experience as a fan when I was a young lad,
00:30:28and everyone used to just take it for granted.
00:30:30Today, there's been memories created for so many of those supporters who've never had that,
00:30:34you know, that experience.
00:30:36Right, up next, Europe chasing Bournemouth against Manchester United.
00:30:42Your commentator, Simon Brotherton.
00:30:47Bournemouth still have European hopes for next season,
00:30:49while Manchester United may have half an eye on Thursday's Europa League semi-final first leg in Bilbao.
00:30:56Andoni Arreola names an unchanged side.
00:30:59Kefra Aretha Balaga hasn't conceded in the last two matches.
00:31:03Antoine Semenyo scored the winner against Fulham in the last home game.
00:31:07Manchester United make five changes.
00:31:09Luke Shaw makes his first start since last year's Euro final against Spain.
00:31:14Harry Maguire and Lenny Euro come in at the back,
00:31:17and both Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro also start.
00:31:23Bournemouth looking to do the double over Manchester United.
00:31:26Three-nil winners at Old Trafford earlier in the season.
00:31:29Maynou.
00:31:30Masraoui into Garnaccio, tees it up.
00:31:38Whistling past the foot of the post.
00:31:42The chance to go for goal suddenly opened up there for Garnaccio.
00:31:47Big week for Ruben Amarim and Manchester United with the trip to take on Athletic Club Bilbao.
00:31:54Nicely done by Kleiber, skipping clear of Casemiro looking to set up Semenyo.
00:32:00The challenge by Adams was a strong one there.
00:32:05The whistle blows.
00:32:09And it will be looked at in the VAR hub.
00:32:14Described as a top-end reckless tackle in which he stays very low,
00:32:18which is why they are suggesting the referee stays with his on-field decision.
00:32:24Tyler Adams is going to have to tread pretty carefully for the rest of the match now.
00:32:34Dorgu under pressure, easily dispossessed by Adam Smith.
00:32:38Good ball in.
00:32:38Evan Nielsen looks to tee it up.
00:32:40Blasted into the back of the net.
00:32:42Super strike from Semenyo.
00:32:47Bournemouth make the breakthrough.
00:32:48Midway through the first half.
00:32:50Well, as soon as the match restarted, Manchester United quickly losing possession.
00:32:59Dorgu losing out to Adam Smith.
00:33:02Evan Nielsen with a little flick back and Semenyo buried it.
00:33:06It's Bournemouth 1, Manchester United 0 from a situation in which it was a Manchester United free kick inside their own half.
00:33:18Seconds later, it's in the back of their net.
00:33:20Fernandes sends it forward, and stealing in is Alejandro Garnaccio, and there was nearly an equaliser.
00:33:31Suddenly, Manchester United were in, Garnaccio got a touch.
00:33:37The fingertips of Kepa Aretha Belaga kept the score at 1-0.
00:33:42Smith was just caught there by Dorgu.
00:34:00Free kick for Bournemouth, and a yellow card for the Manchester United player.
00:34:07Roughly half an hour to go in this one.
00:34:09Still just a one-goal game.
00:34:12Otara sends it in, almost beating Onana Zabani just wide.
00:34:21Almost squeezing it into the top corner.
00:34:24Not far wide of the post off the boot of Ilya Zabani.
00:34:32Still plenty of time for Manchester United to get back into this match.
00:34:37Not quite at the midway point of the second half.
00:34:42The referee is going to be asked to go and have a look at this one.
00:34:53It's a painful one for Nusser Masrawi.
00:34:55Yellow card for Evan Nilsson.
00:34:58The referee is going to be asked to go and have a look at this for potential serious foul play for the tackle.
00:35:05So the left foot ends up above the ankle at the point of connecting with the opponent.
00:35:12The other one there at knee height, but not really connecting, but I think he's going to be sent off here.
00:35:16Here comes the decision and Evan Nilsson receives a red card for that challenge.
00:35:24Bournemouth down to ten.
00:35:26With 20 minutes to play, still time for Manchester United to salvage something.
00:35:37Elected by Dorgu.
00:35:39Garnaccio.
00:35:40Could be a chance here for Mason Mount and the deflection carries it wide.
00:35:51Looks like a goal bound shot when it left his boot.
00:35:55And a deflection carries it past the post.
00:35:57Now Fernandes.
00:36:01Garnaccio collecting.
00:36:03It's another Manchester United corner.
00:36:12Shaw in Turgate.
00:36:14Capable of a good delivery, Luke Shaw.
00:36:16Lenny Uro going for it.
00:36:18Blasted in towards goal by Ericsson.
00:36:20Garnaccio, little deflection.
00:36:22And Fernandes just wide.
00:36:27He's grazing the outside of the net.
00:36:36Manchester United can't be staring.
00:36:38Another away defeat in the face.
00:36:43Ugate.
00:36:49With Lenny Uro.
00:36:54Ball in.
00:36:55Met by the head of Zabani.
00:36:57Here's Fernandes.
00:37:00Shaw across.
00:37:01And it's in.
00:37:02Rasmus Hoyland.
00:37:04With only his second Manchester United goal in his last 29 appearances.
00:37:11What a time to score.
00:37:1496 minutes on the watch now.
00:37:17And Manchester United finally find the back of the net.
00:37:22After toiling in the southern sunshine.
00:37:27It's Bournemouth won.
00:37:28Manchester United won.
00:37:30We suffer a lot with the high intensity press.
00:37:33We lose some balls there.
00:37:35But we create chances.
00:37:37And we had Garnaccio.
00:37:38And we had a quite similar chance near the box with a lot of shots.
00:37:43Quite similar from the goal from Bernmotte.
00:37:46I think we deserved at least one point.
00:37:48If ever any player needed a goal in your team, it was Rasmus Hoyland.
00:37:51How delighted are you that he did find the back of the net?
00:37:54It can be a little bit light during the week.
00:37:57But Thursday is a new game.
00:37:59New history.
00:38:00So it doesn't matter.
00:38:00He scored a goal for Manchester United.
00:38:02I think it needs to score many more.
00:38:04I think the game was going well for us.
00:38:06But obviously, with the red card, the game changes.
00:38:10I think it's common sense.
00:38:11Everyone who has played football knows that Van Nilsson has slipped.
00:38:15And even he doesn't catch him with the leg that goes high.
00:38:18He catches him with the leg that goes on the floor.
00:38:20And he has seen it in the referee's life.
00:38:23He doesn't think he's a red card.
00:38:27I suppose they have to see the process.
00:38:29They told him, no, Van Nilsson sleeps and after the consequences,
00:38:33because probably they put you the image,
00:38:35they still image with what has happened before and after,
00:38:38and he takes a decision that has big repercussions.
00:38:41But in the 1996, 1997, you know, the minute,
00:38:44we consider that goal that is costly for us.
00:38:48We'll come on to the red card in just a moment.
00:38:52But Manchester United, not for the first time this season, Shea,
00:38:55are sort of their own worst enemy, really.
00:38:57Yeah, playing in the wrong areas, playing out from the back,
00:39:00especially at Bournemouth, the way we know Areola sets his team up.
00:39:03They want to be in the front foot, pressing really high up the pitch.
00:39:05And they invited them on, and the goal was by their own doing, really,
00:39:09because, you know, they had a few different examples.
00:39:11We could have showed a couple more of these, obviously.
00:39:13This is Evan Nilsson, he sets off the press, of course.
00:39:16Now, Onana, we know, has options on the ball.
00:39:18That's the back five, you see them lit up.
00:39:20He's not got a lot to hit at this point, you know.
00:39:22Can he go lefty Shaw?
00:39:24You see Smith, for example, can get to Dorgu.
00:39:26And then I think if he plays it, he shows an easier pass out to Dorgu.
00:39:29Now Smith can get to the front of Fernandes as well.
00:39:31Actually, Fernandes does quite well, wriggles out of it.
00:39:34But comes across the pitch, and then Masuari's under pressure,
00:39:36gives it away.
00:39:37And this is in the first minute, Mark.
00:39:39So you're inviting pressure straight away from the first whistle,
00:39:41the home crowd up.
00:39:42Again, back to Onana, good press from Evan Nilsson once again.
00:39:46Now, what does he do?
00:39:47This time he goes to Jorah, the right-side centre-back.
00:39:51He plays to Masuari, and now look at the press.
00:39:53Look at the Bournemouth guys.
00:39:54They're all there.
00:39:55They're all locked on.
00:39:55They're actually inviting trouble.
00:39:57Like, why not miss out the press?
00:39:58Why not go to Howland, get them up the pitch and play the next time?
00:40:01Again, this time he goes to Shaw.
00:40:03What's the options?
00:40:04Again, you know, the Bournemouth players are just setting traps onto Dorgu this time.
00:40:08It's just all stress at this point.
00:40:09Casemiro makes a mistake.
00:40:10I think it comes off Dorgu.
00:40:12He gets away with it, comes back to Casemiro.
00:40:14Another mistake.
00:40:15And then you're at the back three, back five, call them what you want.
00:40:18Two open.
00:40:19This is the goal.
00:40:21Again, look, if Masuari drops in there, you've got a 4v1 in the box.
00:40:24You've done that in the training ground.
00:40:25You know, when Evan Nelson go, I'm not doing that.
00:40:27I'm never going to get the ball.
00:40:28They've got acres of space.
00:40:29You're not asking Maguire to play under too much pressure.
00:40:31And then it passes back to Shaw.
00:40:33Then Dorgu, you can see the press.
00:40:35Smith jumps on, you know, Adam Smith jumps on the press.
00:40:38Bournemouth are all over him at this stage, Mark.
00:40:40And again, this is the 23rd minute.
00:40:41They had a few warnings before this.
00:40:42Brilliant touch from Evan Nelson.
00:40:44And Semenya bangs it away.
00:40:45And it's all their own doing.
00:40:46They look like they can't pass to each other.
00:40:49It, yeah, that's just even a separate issue in terms of quality.
00:40:52But as a philosophy, you've got to have variation.
00:40:55We saw United go to Newcastle recently and get the same thing happened to them.
00:40:58You've got to be able to mix the game up now and again,
00:41:01because Bournemouth be watching that going,
00:41:02they're going to come here and they're going to play out from the bat.
00:41:04And we're going to set traps, like you said.
00:41:06There's no variation in the game.
00:41:08And that, that's coaching.
00:41:09It's a bit of leadership on the pitch.
00:41:10But the thing is that baffles me the most is that Man U players,
00:41:13they're all experienced guys out there.
00:41:16You know, Harry Maguire.
00:41:17So take control.
00:41:18Well, yeah.
00:41:18And there's times when you're, you're, when you're getting done in a game sometimes,
00:41:22you have to take responsibility yourself and forget what the manager's asked you to do.
00:41:26And don't see it.
00:41:26Not just Man U actually, a lot of teams.
00:41:29As far as the red card is concerned,
00:41:30I think you two are in agreement, aren't you, with Irola,
00:41:33that this just doesn't take into account the fact that Evan Nielsen slipped?
00:41:40Yeah, I, look, there's been a high bar set from the PGMOL and I'm in agreement with it.
00:41:47And that means letting the referee's decisions go, unless it's a blatantly clear and obvious.
00:41:52Now, ironically, the ref gets this right.
00:41:55And when you watch it back and we slow it down,
00:41:58it's a simple understanding of playing at this level for us,
00:42:02so we know it and not all refs have got that.
00:42:05Quickly, it can look a bit naughty.
00:42:07We've seen referees give reds for the tackles like that.
00:42:11I think he, he gets it right, honestly.
00:42:13When you watch the replay and Evan Nielsen comes in, it's not particularly fast.
00:42:19That still looks naughty.
00:42:21Which is what they show him first.
00:42:23Show him first.
00:42:24Here, you can see the slip.
00:42:26Twice we see that angle.
00:42:27He comes in on the left foot to try and stand on the left foot.
00:42:30This is the best angle coming up now.
00:42:31The left foot's planted because he wants to tackle with his right foot.
00:42:35No danger. It's the right way to try and tackle.
00:42:38When you just move it forward a tiny bit,
00:42:40that left foot goes from under him on the slip and catches him on the...
00:42:44The right foot he was going to tackle with doesn't catch him.
00:42:46It's completely accidental.
00:42:49So, yellow was perfect.
00:42:51The bit I don't, I don't often disagree with you.
00:42:54But I'm not, I don't think this is even playing football at the highest level.
00:42:58I think he can be a pub footballer clogger and recognise when someone slips.
00:43:02Well, I was...
00:43:02And, and, and...
00:43:03Is that he going to bring me in?
00:43:04No, no, no, no, no.
00:43:06Shane, over to you.
00:43:07Thanks, mate.
00:43:08But, but, you know, that, that one circle on the ankle, you see him slip.
00:43:13So, it sounded a bit condescending.
00:43:15I was trying to give the referees a little get out because, you know,
00:43:17they, they, they haven't been on the pitch the opposite way.
00:43:20But the, but the VAR guy can see, can, is my point.
00:43:23Yeah.
00:43:24But Peter Banks is right.
00:43:25Peter Banks is the referee in charge.
00:43:26He got the decision right for us.
00:43:27Yeah.
00:43:28It wasn't clear and obvious.
00:43:29But then, John Brooks, it's not clear and obvious.
00:43:30It's not a clear and obvious error.
00:43:31I agree.
00:43:32So, why does VAR get involved?
00:43:33I agree.
00:43:33So, then John Brooks calls him to think this is a, this is a dangerous foul.
00:43:36But again, it, it, Iriola was, was, was going mental after the game.
00:43:40Because everyone can see, as you rightly says, he slips into the tackle.
00:43:42He wasn't trying to endanger anyone.
00:43:44It's just a, he slipped over and a yellow card would be the right to see.
00:43:46Do you think they'll appeal it?
00:43:48I think they should appeal it.
00:43:49And I think they will get off.
00:43:50There you go.
00:43:50There you go.
00:43:51What do you think?
00:43:52What do you think?
00:43:53I think they should appeal, but I don't think they'll get off.
00:43:56Why?
00:43:57Just because.
00:43:58I think they don't see it like we see it.
00:44:01I think it's, yeah, it should get off 100%.
00:44:04You finished the two?
00:44:05Yeah.
00:44:05All right, good.
00:44:07All of Saturday's action now starts at St James's Park.
00:44:10Johnson in ahead of Tonale.
00:44:21It's Ben Johnson for Ipswich.
00:44:25Now, no contact.
00:44:27And this should be a yellow card for Ben Johnson, and it is.
00:44:30I don't think he's got that bang on.
00:44:32He's out beautifully round.
00:44:38Johnson, who's already on a yellow, and is in trouble.
00:44:42There's the second one.
00:44:45Ben Johnson sent off two yellow cards inside seven minutes.
00:44:53Gimmeraise, is that a penalty?
00:44:55And see so on Murphy, which, of course, will be checked.
00:45:02Here comes the confirmation.
00:45:03Newcastle penalty.
00:45:09Newcastle have actually missed two of their last five
00:45:12Premier League penalties.
00:45:14They haven't missed that one.
00:45:16Isaac on the spot.
00:45:19And finally, Newcastle have the breakthrough.
00:45:25And there he is, big Dan Byrne to do just that.
00:45:38And Newcastle have a 2-0 lead.
00:45:42Newcastle corner.
00:45:46Osula!
00:45:49Oh, it's a special moment for the 21-year-old.
00:45:52Less than 90 minutes of Premier League football all season off the bench.
00:45:58And he has his first Premier League goal.
00:46:03That is a result that confirms Ipswich Town's relegation.
00:46:09What's it been like with everyone welcoming you back?
00:46:11Have you really felt the love today?
00:46:14Yeah, I've been very much in game mode, so you don't necessarily open yourself up to it.
00:46:17But I'm very aware that people have been very kind and very warm with me.
00:46:21And it's hugely appreciated.
00:46:22The mathematical completion, it doesn't change too much.
00:46:26We've been through the emotions and we're looking to the future.
00:46:29And so Fernandes, Jackson!
00:46:40Nicholas Jackson!
00:46:42After 13 games without a goal in all competitions.
00:46:48Produces a stunning finish.
00:46:50Some Hampton fans raised their voices.
00:47:00They said something might be coming from this free-kick.
00:47:03Whip on it.
00:47:04Stephens is there, it's a beautiful header.
00:47:07His last goal came in December 2019.
00:47:11Aware Aston Villa.
00:47:12Iwobi, Smith-Rowe, that's a fine run in there.
00:47:18The shot is deflected in off Bednarak.
00:47:22And Smith-Rowe's intervention from the bench is crucial.
00:47:26And Southampton are back in the game.
00:47:32Kearney.
00:47:33He comes across from Troy, it's in!
00:47:38And Fulham have won it.
00:47:40A minute and a half in the stoppage tie.
00:47:42Southampton, in the end here at Samiris,
00:47:45just have not had enough to get across the line.
00:47:55Hinchelbert.
00:47:56Chance for a shot, perhaps.
00:47:57Ayari!
00:47:58Oh, brilliant!
00:48:00What a strike that is!
00:48:02From Yasin Ayari.
00:48:05The Swedish international with a sweet strike.
00:48:11Suchek.
00:48:14Wan-Bissaka.
00:48:17Bowen.
00:48:18Look at the room that he has.
00:48:19Jarrod Bowen to try and place it into the middle,
00:48:22and it is the equaliser.
00:48:25Mohamed Kudus.
00:48:28The Ghanaian international applying the finishing touch.
00:48:32And we're all square.
00:48:34Bowen.
00:48:40Bowen again.
00:48:43Lovely ball into the middle.
00:48:44Back by Suchek.
00:48:46West Ham in front.
00:48:47Thomas Suchek has turned this one around in the hammer's favour.
00:48:58Mintek.
00:49:00Gomez.
00:49:01Hedder back into the middle.
00:49:04Hedder back into the middle.
00:49:04Mitomo 2-2.
00:49:07Grudus.
00:49:08Hedder.
00:49:09Cushioned.
00:49:10Perfectly.
00:49:11And it's all square once again.
00:49:17Mintek.
00:49:18Hurls it long.
00:49:22Away by Areola.
00:49:24Brighton still pressing.
00:49:26In search of a dramatic late winner.
00:49:28And they've got it!
00:49:31Carlos Belieber.
00:49:33Oh, what a celebration from not only the goalscorer, but all around the Amex stadium.
00:49:39Matias Cunha.
00:49:47Aik Nouri.
00:49:48Matias Cunha.
00:49:49Aik Nouri again.
00:49:54Matias Cunha.
00:49:57Inevitable.
00:50:00The side foot sufficient to guide it beyond the goalkeeper.
00:50:04Matias Cunha.
00:50:10Strand-Larsen again.
00:50:13That's a fabulous goal.
00:50:14That really is a fabulous goal.
00:50:17The two men at the moment.
00:50:21Matias Cunha and Jürgen Strand-Larsen combining so sweetly.
00:50:28Unetzi, Sarabia on towards Matias Cunha.
00:50:32That's a brilliant pass.
00:50:33And he's got options, Matias Cunha.
00:50:37And it's three now.
00:50:39Because Rodrigo Gomez kept up with Matias Cunha.
00:50:44And Matias Cunha knew he was there.
00:50:47And they are getting further and further up that Premier League table.
00:50:50So Liverpool secure a record equaling 20th top flight title with four games to spare.
00:50:59They've spent 206 days at the top of the table across the entirety of this campaign.
00:51:05Tottenham, meanwhile, equalled the club record of losing 19 games in a single Premier League season.
00:51:12So, the FA Cup semi-final on the way, but Liverpool have sealed the Premier League title in Arnest Lott's first season in charge.
00:51:20It doesn't feel like an end.
00:51:27It just feels like the start.
00:51:28Arnest Lott!
00:51:31Like 70 Liverpool fans will be doing a lot of frantic googling of who is Arnest Lott.
00:51:39He's going to be constantly compared to Jurgen Klopp.
00:51:42Arnest Lott has a pretty tough act to follow.
00:51:45There are big shoes to fill, but you can also look at it in a way that you inherit a squad that has a winning culture.
00:51:52It's not that we're going to change everything, but we have to find ways to improve.
00:51:57They're running rings around Manchester United.
00:52:09Liverpool's great start has been downgraded to good.
00:52:14Liverpool win to keep them at the top of the Premier League.
00:52:18Arsenal and Liverpool draw at the Emirates.
00:52:21They go from strength to strength.
00:52:2211-point gap over the Champions.
00:52:32The 10 men have come back again.
00:52:39Liverpool running riot.
00:52:46Another day, another win for the surely Champions-to-be.
00:52:52Part 22-point game.
00:53:05This is her bread and butter.
00:53:07This is the one me watch.
00:53:11Liverpool showing just what in their league leaders.
00:53:14Salah!
00:53:18Week after week, game after game.
00:53:21Who else but Mo Salah?
00:53:23Ruthless from Liverpool.
00:53:26The Manchester City era is over.
00:53:30Liverpool in cruise control at the top of the Premier League table.
00:53:37Virgil van Dijk!
00:53:40That's the way it goes for champions.
00:53:43Trent Alexander-Arnold for Liverpool.
00:53:48Liverpool go marching on.
00:53:51Liverpool lead!
00:53:53And that is the Premier League won by the Premier League's player of the season.
00:53:58Champions of England for the 20th time.
00:54:01He's done an exceptional job with an exceptional team.
00:54:05The only thing I can do now is my semi-appreciation to Jürgen.
00:54:09Jürgen!
00:54:10Jürgen!
00:54:12La-la-la-la-la-la!
00:54:14Jürgen!

00:55:15Jürgen!
00:55:16Jürgen!
00:55:17Jürgen!
00:55:18Jürgen!
00:55:19suspension. City's team makes for interesting news as well with Rico Lewis,
00:55:23Jack Grealish and Savinho coming in, replacing Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne
00:55:28and James Nacatee. He's another serving a one-match ban. For Grealish a first
00:55:33start in five games and only his third since the home defeat to Real Madrid
00:55:38and that was back in the first half of February.
00:55:42Forrester certainly winning the battle off the field. For their fans this is only
00:55:50their second trip to Wembley since 1992. Three years ago against Huddersfield in
00:55:56the championship playoff final. Manchester City fans well it's a dear old
00:56:00business getting down to northwest London. This their 30th game at Wembley since
00:56:05April 2011. Michael Oliver had to get sharply out of the way to allow Kovacic to get
00:56:11onto the ball and he's now getting into a really good position and City have
00:56:15scored already. Rico Lewis has slotted that in quite brilliantly. What a finish.
00:56:23What a start. Kovacic played a key part in it. He's become a key player in the last
00:56:30few weeks. And Rico Lewis whose selection raised a few eyebrows brought in from out
00:56:37of the cold. Caught Forest cold here. And it's Nottingham Forest 0. Manchester City 1.
00:56:47Nuno Espirito Santos Reds haven't got going yet. Haven't been allowed to.
00:56:51Mamouche good pressure relieving ball from Grealish out into the space and he's there for the return
00:57:00from Mamouche and he finds him again and Mamouche will let fly but it does fly. Four goals in his
00:57:07last seven games. One of which was the winner in the quarter-final at Bournemouth when he came
00:57:13on as a substitute. City playing possession football. Playing it very well. Mateus Nunes who made good progress.
00:57:23Silva and O'Reilly. It's a good combination. O'Reilly had the wherewithal, the turn and fire and he wasn't far away.
00:57:33And that just sums up the contribution that young man has made to Pep Guardiola's side in the last few weeks.
00:57:41He'll be pretty much number one in the starting line-up every week next season.
00:57:46Wood. Gibbs-White.
00:57:50And the flank has stayed down here as Hudson-Odoi comes in.
00:57:54Chris Wood challenges and he goes behind and now the flag goes up for offside.
00:57:58It wouldn't have come to anything in the end.
00:58:03Wasn't much in it. Hudson-Odoi tried desperately to drop the anchor and stay on.
00:58:07He couldn't. And Wood couldn't convert anyway.
00:58:12For all of City's dominance of the ball, there has only been one shot on target all game.
00:58:19And that was the one that Rico Lewis put into the forest net one minute, 52 seconds in.
00:58:25Hudson-Odoi, Ilanga is demanding the ball in the middle and he's going to get it.
00:58:30And put the chance wide with his first touch.
00:58:33Biggest opportunity the match for Nottingham Forest.
00:58:39By a mile.
00:58:41A wake-up call for Manchester City if ever there was one.
00:58:46And Savino, Rico Lewis, can he pull it back to Grealish when he tried to squeeze it past Sells instead?
00:59:00Now Nunes, he's having a go too.
00:59:03And now it's Kovacic and it's scrambled off the line.
00:59:09City thought they'd scored a second.
00:59:12Once they realised they hadn't, they surrounded the referee to discuss a possible handball.
00:59:20It came off Abbott, might have struck the arm, struck a bit of the backside as well.
00:59:24The verdict of VAR is, it's a normal motion.
00:59:29Well saved Sells, City corner.
00:59:34Marmouche in and headed in by Guardiol.
00:59:43They scored two minutes into the first half, they've scored just over five into the second.
00:59:52And what a simple goal it was.
00:59:54Look at Guardiol.
00:59:55He just walked onto it.
00:59:57Nobody with him.
00:59:58A simple jump up in the air, he had the mark of Murillo.
01:00:02And it's Nottingham Forest 0, Manchester City 2.
01:00:07Not taking a seat too often today or indeed during any other game, but just a moment of respite for Pep.
01:00:13Now Jack Grealish, Marmouche, Marmouche's effort saved by Sells.
01:00:23Made absolutely sure it was going over the top.
01:00:31Marmouche, never quite on for him, nor for Grealish, three in his way.
01:00:42Find O'Reilly.
01:00:43Kovacic has been beaten to it.
01:00:45More good work by Gibbs-White.
01:00:47Ilanga now.
01:00:48And Chris Wood.
01:00:51Nunes has raced back to help out Bernardo Silva.
01:00:55Ilanga.
01:00:58And that's Gibbs-White, oh, what an effort!
01:01:03How unlucky can you be?
01:01:05The crossbar is still shaking.
01:01:08After this thunderous volley from Morgan Gibbs-White.
01:01:11Ortega utterly helpless.
01:01:14So is Nuno.
01:01:21Kovacic.
01:01:22Now Guardiola.
01:01:26Oh, it's nicked, it's been pinched, and Gibbs-White is in!
01:01:29Oh, he's in the woodwork again!
01:01:31The gift of a chance for Forrest.
01:01:36Manchester City were half asleep there.
01:01:40The sort of moment that makes you think, no, not our day.
01:01:43Hudson-Odoi.
01:01:48Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
01:01:53Across to Ilanga.
01:01:56Riley giving him a respectful distance here.
01:01:59And Ilanga fizzes one in, blocked, and off the post again!
01:02:05Back in for Gibbs-White, out of a go, and Ortega's kept him out this time.
01:02:11The first effort was from Taiwo Awani.
01:02:14Just an instinctive jab at the ball against the post.
01:02:18And then as it came back in, Gibbs-White made absolutely sure he was getting to that above everybody else.
01:02:23And he couldn't get the power to beat Ortega.
01:02:26It is just not to be.
01:02:34Gibbs-White.
01:02:38Sosa.
01:02:39I think he just about got there.
01:02:42But it's another opportunity missed.
01:02:44Flang up for offside at the end of it.
01:02:47It's a very close-run thing.
01:02:49I think it was Ramon Sosa, but only, only just.
01:02:54And Ilanga unable to convert.
01:02:57I don't know, wearing the expression of a boss that knows.
01:03:02Time is nearly up-to-date.
01:03:05O'Reilly's throw.
01:03:09It is Manchester City who will have a date with the Palace in 20 days' time.
01:03:20The customary Wembley appointment for May.
01:03:25Pep Guardiola's team has reached the final for the third year in a row.
01:03:30And for Nottingham Forest, it's back to that chase to earn themselves a place in Europe.
01:03:37Maybe even the Champions League via Premier League standings.
01:03:42Nottingham Forest, 0.
01:03:43Manchester City, 2.
01:03:45Premier League standings.
01:03:47We had good situations.
01:03:48City started really well in the game with a lot of problems.
01:03:52They scored the first chance, which changes everything, but the reaction was good.
01:03:57Like you said, we had close chances, fine margins.
01:04:01Overall, I think we performed well.
01:04:03We compete against a very good team that has talented players, which makes it really hard
01:04:08to recover the ball and reverse the result.
01:04:10It's a bittersweet moment for me.
01:04:12I think I can be proud of what I did today and I think that I was positive when in defence.
01:04:19But obviously the result didn't go our way and that's the disappointing part.
01:04:23But I think another day it could have gone our way because we hit the woodwork many times.
01:04:26I had a feeling I was going to score today.
01:04:28You know, talking to my mates on my phone and stuff like that, I had a feeling that I was going to.
01:04:32But yeah, obviously not that early.
01:04:34And you know, when it came to me, I think I just thought I'll just hit it and see what happens.
01:04:37And, you know, as soon as I shot and as soon as I left my foot, I felt like I'd scored
01:04:41and, you know, luckily I went in.
01:04:42Crystal Palace in the final.
01:04:44What do you think about that?
01:04:46Well, just take a look at what, yes, they have done and it's enough.
01:04:49So we played against them a few weeks ago and it was 0-2 for one inch, it was 0-3.
01:04:55So, the pace they have up front and an extraordinary manager.
01:05:00So, in Buenos Aires, because he is and physicality, experience.
01:05:07So, yeah, but we are in the final.
01:05:09So, hopefully we can do better than last season against United.
01:05:12Well, it was a good opening goal, wasn't it?
01:05:14It was.
01:05:15It was a good start from City.
01:05:16I think the experience they've got in these games showed.
01:05:18They started brightly on the front foot.
01:05:20Enrico Luzo was playing in his more favoured position in the middle of the park today.
01:05:25Popped up in a really great area, actually.
01:05:28You can see him here, Gary, because he's got this great energy, hasn't he?
01:05:30But, as they're passing it around, he just pops up in that little space between the back line.
01:05:35And then Forrest are good at this, normally.
01:05:37Just gets a yard.
01:05:38Great little first touch there.
01:05:39That's what sets the shot.
01:05:42Super strike for him.
01:05:44Big day.
01:05:44Nice moment for him.
01:05:45And City were good at the start of the game.
01:05:47I thought Forrest could be proud of their performance.
01:05:50Did they play into City's hands a little bit with their formation at the start?
01:05:54Yeah, they've played it before, that 4-4-1-1.
01:05:57Hudson-Odoi in behind Wood, and it was a little bit easy for City to pick them off.
01:06:02That's why he changed it at half-time.
01:06:04And those changes, and Antiel Anger coming on, and a bit more wit, they had chances.
01:06:10Big chances in Nottingham Forrest.
01:06:11I think in semi-finals and finals, you need to take the chances.
01:06:13I think this is him speaking to Anthony at half-time.
01:06:15Sorry I didn't start you, pal, but you're coming on.
01:06:17You're coming on at half-time.
01:06:19You can lip-read as well.
01:06:20I know.
01:06:21This is the first minute of the second half.
01:06:22I know that's one of the best chances of the day.
01:06:24Just maybe he's too cold, just straight off the bench.
01:06:26But again, they had some big chances in the second half.
01:06:28Gibbs-White, what about this technique, Mark?
01:06:30Absolutely unbelievable.
01:06:31Look at this in the slow-mo.
01:06:32Amazing technique.
01:06:33It's a width of a post away, and it's in the back of the net.
01:06:36So again, in the big games, you need a bit of luck as well.
01:06:38Here, Gibbs-White can hit it first time.
01:06:40Takes the touch, hits the post.
01:06:42You know, they hit the woodwork three times, four times a day.
01:06:45Again, Hudson-Odoi, I won you here off the post again.
01:06:48You know, it's just, there's nothing really going for them.
01:06:50And again, Gibbs-White, you know, Stefan Ortega with the save.
01:06:53It's just, they were knocking on the door.
01:06:54Fine margins, isn't it?
01:06:55Fine margins.
01:06:56They'd won an empty drop for them.
01:06:57It didn't go in.
01:06:58You wonder, I mean, and look, and that's the difference in the second half.
01:07:01I know it's all lifts and buts.
01:07:03You wonder, if one had gone in, how much pressure they could have put City under.
01:07:06Well, Nuno will question as well his selection, his team selection as well, you know,
01:07:09because Alanga made such a difference at half-time.
01:07:11He's done it.
01:07:12He's already started with him, but they've got the Champions League as well, Dan, haven't they?
01:07:14They've had a wonderful season, and part of the reason is because of his flexibility.
01:07:17He does it a lot.
01:07:18He changes systems at half-time.
01:07:20He's made brave decisions this season, left players out.
01:07:23I mean, Hudson-Odoi and Alanga didn't play at Anfield when they won.
01:07:26Yeah.
01:07:26You know, Hudson-Odoi didn't play at Tottenham the other night, but he's done a terrific job.
01:07:30Also, City's consistency in the FA Cup is remarkable, isn't it?
01:07:35I mean, you know, about their 28th semi-final on the trot, and now they're in their third final.
01:07:40Yeah, and I mean, it'll be a fitting way for De Bruyne.
01:07:42He didn't actually play today, De Bruyne, but to get his hands on that last trophy,
01:07:45perhaps before he exits the door.
01:07:46Yeah, Man City are finishing the season really strong, pushing for Champions League as well,
01:07:51and you would think they'll be strong favourites in the final.
01:07:53OK, let's point you in the direction of plenty more sport that's coming up.
01:07:58All the weekend's WSL action is up next here on BBC One.

01:08:27And the iPlayer.
01:08:29That's it.
01:08:30Thanks to Danny and Shea.
01:08:32Today, the FA Cup final on Saturday the 17th of May will be between Crystal Palace and Manchester City.
01:08:38Good night.
01:08:41The second semi-final of the weekend underway.
01:08:45Rico Lewis has slotted that in quite brilliantly.
01:08:49Headed in by Guardiola.
01:08:52Oh, he's in the woodwork again.
01:08:54Manchester City reached the final for the third year in a row.
