Trump says Zelenskyy meeting went well

President Donald Trump urged Russia on Sunday, April 27, to stop its attacks in Ukraine while his top diplomat said the United States might walk away from peace efforts if it does not see progress.

Speaking to reporters in New Jersey, Trump said he was disappointed that Russia has continued to attack Ukraine, and said his one-on-one meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy at the Vatican on Saturday had gone well.

Trump and Zelenskyy, who were in Rome for the funeral of Pope Francis, met in a Vatican basilica on Saturday, April 26, to try to revive faltering efforts to end the war in Ukraine. The meeting was the first between the two leaders since an angry encounter in the White House Oval Office in February and comes at a critical time in negotiations aimed at bringing an end to the conflict.

00:00The meeting went well.
00:02We'll see what happens over the next few days.
00:04We'll probably learn a lot.
00:06I was very disappointed that missiles were flying by Russia,
00:11but that missiles were flying.
00:12Very disappointing.
00:13We'll see how it goes.
00:15On the Iran situation, I think we're doing very well.
00:19I think a deal is going to be made there.
00:22That's going to happen.
00:23Pretty sure it's going to happen.
00:24We'll have something without having to start dropping bombs all over the place.
00:30You've crushed President Putin.
00:32Say it again.
00:33You've crushed President Putin.
00:35You know, in about two weeks.
00:36They have a tough road ahead, okay?
00:40And we had a good meeting.
00:42It was a nice meeting.
00:43It was a beautiful meeting.
00:44I'll tell you, it's the nicest office I've ever seen.
00:48It was a beautiful, beautiful scene.
00:50But he was very, you know, look, he wants to do something good for his country.
00:56He thinks he's doing a good job and he's working hard.
01:00We'll see what happens.
01:01It's a very complicated deal.
01:03He told me that he needs more weapons, but he's been saying that for three years.
01:09You know, he needs more weapons.
01:11And we're going to see what happens.
01:13I want to see what happens with respect to Russia, because Russia has been surprised
01:18and disappointed, very disappointed that they did the bombing of those places after discussions.
01:25Are you going to talk to Putin again?
01:27Yeah, I will.
01:28Did President Zelensky talk to you about Crimea?
01:32Well, he did, very briefly.
01:34But Crimea was given away by Barack Hussein, Obama, and by Biden.
01:39That's 11 or 12 years ago.
01:40That's a long time ago.
01:41I don't know how he could bring up Crimea, because that's been a long time.
01:46Nobody brought it up for 12 years, and now they bring it up now.
01:50So I told him, I told him, you can maybe go back to Obama, ask him why they gave it up.
01:56They gave it up without a shot being fired, by the way.
01:59Well, I want him to stop shooting, sit down and sign a deal.
02:03And we have the confines of a deal, I believe.
02:06And I want him to sign it and be done with it and just go back to life.
02:11What unit of action are you considering taking against Russia?
02:15Well, I have a lot of things I can do.
02:16I'm not looking to do it.
02:18But I have a lot of strength.
02:20You know, we've built the United States up.
02:23I think we're more respected now as a country maybe than ever before.
02:26There's no more games.
02:28You have somebody that knows what he's doing, not like the previous person who didn't have a clue.
02:32So, you know, I just, I want to end that.
02:37I want to end the Iran situation if we can.
02:40Two weeks or less, and if it's a little more at the time, I say.
02:43But, you know, they're losing a lot of people.
02:46We have 3,000, 4,000 people dying every single week.
02:51That's a lot of people to lose.
02:52You can imagine parents waving from Ukraine and from Russia, waving to their son as he leaves.
02:59And, you know, a week later he's dead on a battlefield all carved up and shopped up.
03:04I've seen it.
03:05I see, I see the satellite pictures.
03:09They're horrible.
03:10They're horrible.
03:12I would say it can't get any worse.
03:15Body parts laying all over.
03:16I don't even like looking at them.
03:18Body parts laying all over the fields.
03:20What are they doing?
03:21It would have never started if I were president.
03:24It was never bad.
03:25We had a little dispute because I disagreed with something he said.
03:29And the cameras were rolling and that was okay with me.
03:32But we had a dispute.
03:34But I, look, he's in a tough situation.
03:39A very tough situation.
03:40He's fighting a much bigger force.
03:44Much bigger.
03:45And that force has not been very distinguished.
03:48You know, it's been a lot tougher than they thought.
03:50But it helped them when we gave them $350 billion worth of weapons or cash.
03:56Is the election ready to give up Crimea, do you think, Mr. President?
03:59Oh, I think so, yeah.
04:00Look, Crimea was 12 years ago.
04:03That was President Obama.
04:05They gave it up without a shot being fired.
04:07So don't talk to me about Crimea.
04:09You talk to Obama and Biden about Crimea.
04:11I was just wondering what Zelensky talked about.
04:13And remember, this is Biden's war.
04:14This isn't Trump's war.
04:16I came in to try and solve a problem.
04:19And the problem is so many people are being killed.
04:21Peter, who what are you doing?
04:26This might be all about tava shiwiya.
04:27If you don't have him, do you see someoneense?
04:28He should.
04:29He should.
04:30It's a r hammer.
