00:00Welcome to the 9th edition of Liège-Baston-Liège Femme. There are plenty of contenders again
00:08this year, starting with the two-time winner, Demi Follering. But she will have to keep
00:13a close eye on rising star Puck Peterson, who beat her in Fleche Wallonne on Wednesday,
00:19and also here in Liège on last year's Tour de France Femme avec Zwift.
00:22She's a rivalry of course, so I always want to win from her, but it doesn't matter from
00:27who I want to win, I always want to win, so for me it doesn't matter who it is, as long
00:32as I can win of course. It's just super cool to have battles with those
00:38kinds of riders. Normally you see it all on TV and now you're yourself in it, so I try
00:45to enjoy it as much as possible. Other big names include Elisa Longo Porghini,
00:51Cassia Nuevia Toma and the world champion Lota Capecchi, who will have support today from the
00:56returning two-time winner, Anna van der Brekken.
00:59I will be the leader, but I think Anna is maybe just here, so she's in really good shape
01:07as well. She had some illness the past week, that's why she skipped Fleche Wallonne, but
01:13I just hope that she's tomorrow feeling 100% again and that we can really rely on each other.
01:20It's also worth keeping an eye on Pauline Ferron-Prevo, the winner of this year's Paris-Roubaix.
01:24The goal is to climb with the best riders and see what I can do in the final, how I manage
01:32things. I'm really motivated for this last classic and I can't wait to start.
01:39The route is the same as last year, 153 kilometres with almost 3,000 metres of elevation gain.
01:47There are ten climbs in total, including the famous finishing trio of the Côte de la Redoute,
01:52the Côte des Forges and the Côte de la Roche-au-Faucon. It is a gruelling race where only the strongest
01:58riders can prevail. French rider Maieva Schibon was leading solo when the race went live, not
02:07long before the Côte de la Redoute. She was being chased by Valentina Cavallar, with the
02:13peloton just under a minute back and all of the favourites were still in there. Time trial
02:21specialist Schibon continuing to plug away, but the gap was coming down as they approached
02:26La Redoute. Team SD works leading the peloton, with Capecchi and Van de Brecken right up there.
02:36But there was a surprise on the early slopes as Elisa Longo-Borgini was dropped. The Italian
02:41champion wouldn't be adding to her three podiums at this race.
02:46Schibon was caught around 400 metres from the summit of La Redoute, with Capecchi and Elis
02:51Chabé of FDJ Suez upping the tempo. Ferron Prevo and Pietersa were also in the mix, with
02:57the Fleche Wallonne winner first to the summit.
03:04Just after the climb, Pietersa's team mate Paulina Royakers attacked for Fenix de Koenig.
03:09The Dutch woman, who was third at last year's Tour de France, was joined by Van de Brecken,
03:13Antonia Niedermeyer and Cedrine Kerbail, as things started to get tactical.
03:21Follering's FDJ Suez team weren't in the move, so they had to chase with the French champion
03:26Juliette Leboos. The four leaders with a small gap as they started the penultimate climb,
03:31the Côte des Forges.
03:36Ferron Prevo trying to bridge across, but her move was quickly shut down.
03:42At the front, Kerbail was a woman on a mission, attacking her fellow escapees, as FDJ finally
03:48got a helping hand from Movistar to close the gap before they reached the final climb, the
03:52Côte de la Roche-Fourcon, and the gap was now just ten seconds.
04:00Kerbail and Van de Brecken were the last two standing at the front, and they were finally
04:04caught by a small group containing Pietersa, Kerbail and Follering.
04:10Royakers and Van de Brecken would soon be distanced, leaving Pietersa, Follering, Kerbail and Kerbail
04:16at the front, that quartet heading over the final summit together.
04:22Kerbail, who's a strong ruler, then tried to go from distance, putting a few seconds into
04:27the other three.
04:32On the final little kicker, Kerbail cracked, but Kim Lecourt, who was wearing an almost
04:39identical jersey as the champion of Mauritius, managed to claw her way back to the chase group.
04:46They reeled Kerbail back in with nine kilometres to go, so there were now four contenders for
04:51victory, Kerbail following Pietersa and Lecourt.
04:55Kerbail was in a group 30 seconds back, and it was game over for them.
05:00This ninth edition of Liège-Bastogne-Liège would be decided by a four-up sprint.
05:07They're already into the final with 200 metres to go, Kim Lecourt strikes, she's already beating
05:15Demi-Vollering, Patpizza tries to strike on the other side of the road, it's Kim Lecourt
05:20and Patpizza, Kim Lecourt, she freewheels, Kim Lecourt wins Liège-Bastogne-Liège for the
05:26team of Agee Insurance, Soudal.
05:33Kim Lecourt stunning some of the more fancied names to take her first victory in a major
05:37classic after posting some strong results earlier this year.
05:41The 29-year-old adding to her stage win at last year's Giro d'Italia in some style and
05:46showing there's still plenty of unpredictability in women's cycling.
05:53My DS Jolene told me to start the sprint in Demi's wheel if we counted the line together,
05:59and that's what I did.
06:00I was cramping up when I began the sprint, but I didn't give up and I just can't believe
06:05it.
06:06It's crazy.
06:12Lecourt taking her seventh career win ahead of Pieterser following and Kerbayol, with
06:24Capecchi leading in the next group at 24 seconds.
06:27Van de Brechen and Ferron Prevo finish just outside the top ten, with Longo Borghini in
06:3248th.
06:45Well, we've had a spectacular end to the spring classic season, with wins for Misha Bredewold,
06:50Puck Pieterser and Kim Lecourt.
06:57D.
07:05Thanks to the man that went off the sixth mile.
07:10Rosalep'sику for the M Tages.
