00:00We spoke to a local property expert and found that Kellam Island is the area in Sheffield
00:04exploding the most in popularity. So I decided to come down and take a look and find out why
00:09it's so popular. Getting out of the car I was immediately greeted with a bunch of murals and
00:16paintings on the walls which really added some character to the area. It was a pretty busy day
00:23with loads of people walking around, professionals, students, even people walking their dogs and it
00:29was a really nice atmosphere. Here I just had a little peek at some of the flats on the riverside
00:34which I'm very jealous of and continued walking down towards Kellam Island Museum.
00:39I've stopped outside the Kellam Island Museum which nods towards the city's culture and heritage
00:44in steel and cutlery. Inside I could hear sounds of table tennis so I had a little peek and they
00:51actually have a table tennis club which I didn't know about and then I walked inside the museum
00:56and had another little look inside. The courtyard is also home to a pub and a little library
01:03telephone box which I thought was really cute. The area has definitely maintained its heritage
01:10to the steel industry and I think it's really interesting how the mixes of old and new come
01:14together. But after all of that history I think I deserved a drink so I had a look at what some of the
01:20pubs in Kellam Island can offer. Next we stopped off at the Fat Cat which is famous for its ale.
01:28The inside of the pub was really cosy for winter drinking but I must say that the outside pub garden
01:34is what made me really excited for summer. Obviously one pub on my trip wasn't enough so I also stopped
01:41at the Kellam Island Tavern which was really friendly and fun. From there I thought I'd take a further look
01:47at some of the building developments that are in the area to see what all the fuss is about. All the
01:53contemporary modern buildings were really striking next to some of the more historical elements of the
01:59area and walking around it just felt so quiet and welcoming probably because of the low traffic
02:05neighbourhood. So overall after my trip to Kellam Island I think I understand the hype now and I can't
02:11wait to come back.
