00:00We very much appeal to both the governments of Pakistan and the government of India to
00:05exercise maximum restraint.
00:07Did the Secretary General have any contact with the government of India and Pakistan
00:13in the last 24 hours because it looks like the situation is escalating?
00:18He has not had any direct contact, but I can tell you he's obviously following the situation
00:23very closely and with very great concern.
00:28We were very clear on condemnation of the terror attack that occurred in Jammu and Kashmir
00:35on the 22nd, two days ago, which killed a large number of civilians.
00:41But we very much appeal to both the governments of Pakistan and the government of India to
00:46exercise maximum restraint and to ensure that the situation and the developments we've seen
00:52do not deteriorate any further.
00:56Any issues between Pakistan and India, we believe can be and should be resolved peacefully through
01:04meaningful mutual engagement.
01:06Michelle, then Evelyn.
01:07On that note, does the Secretary General have anything to say about India suspending the water
01:14treaty with Pakistan?
01:15I mean, I think this would go under the rubric of us appealing for maximum restraint
01:21and not taking any actions that would deteriorate the situation further or increase tensions in
01:28a tense area.
