00:00The big news to end out this opening round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
00:05The New York Giants have traded back into the first round for the 25th overall pick with the Houston Texans.
00:12And at number 25 overall, the pick is now in for the G-Men.
00:18And it is indeed a quarterback.
00:21The New York Giants have drafted Jackson Dart, the quarterback out of Ole Miss, with the 25th overall selection.
00:28Our second QB of night number one is now off the board.
00:33It is not Shador Sanders.
00:35It is the kid from Oxford, Jackson Dart, the 25th overall selection made by the New York Giants.
00:42Joe, let's start with the trade itself and then the eventual pick.
00:45The Giants trade back into round number one and get Jackson Dart.
00:49Do you like the move?
00:50Well, I like the move to get a quarterback for the future, right?
00:52They didn't have to pick at number three overall based off of Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston being there.
00:58But to get into the top, you know, 25 and pick Jackson Dart, it makes sense moving forward.
01:04Can Jackson Dart have the same type of career as Eli Manning?
01:07Only the Giants fans could hope, right?
01:09We'll see.
01:10I have concerns about Jackson Dart.
01:12We talk about his big performances against elite competition, Alabama respectively,
01:17and some of the better defenses, college football playoff appearance on the line in Gainesville.
01:23He did not step up.
01:24Looked like a deer in the headlights.
01:26He put up dynamic statistics with Lane Kiffin.
01:2929 touchdowns, four interceptions.
01:31He's mobile.
01:32But again, he's that guy.
01:34In order to play in New York, you need a certain type of mentality.
01:39That's the concern that I have.
01:40It could be Zach Wilson, 2.0, only on a different team.
01:45Okay.
01:46Odds, Dart, Dart, Giants, Dart.
01:49It was real.
01:50It wasn't smoke.
01:52That building leaked it in clear as day.
01:55There are mock drafters out there like, ah, I try not to do trades.
01:58Yeah, I got to do a trade here.
02:00And get Jackson Dart into round one to the Giants.
02:03If you're the Giants, how could you be upset with this haul?
02:06You've got Abdul Carter and what had to be one of the top two quarterbacks on your board.
02:10He's the second that comes off the board here.
02:12I am interested with the way the market was moving.
02:15We discussed it on this show.
02:17At 26, were the Rams supposed to be the trade-up team?
02:22Or did the Giants know they needed to get in front of L.A.?
02:26And did they just steal L.A.'s guy?
02:30Or could Schroeder Sanders follow next?
02:32The Rams are up next at 26 overall.
02:35But as we focus on that 25th overall pick, the New York Giants draft Jackson Dart out of Ole Miss.
02:41A three-year starter in the Grove.
02:43He won 28 games as a starting quarterback.
02:46The most wins by a starting QB in Ole Miss school history.
02:50Also set school career marks for total offense and passing yards.
02:55But blue and cap, it begs the natural question.
02:58Why do the Giants invest in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason?
03:02Straight back into the first round, get a quarterback, that guy being Jackson Dart.
03:08What say you?
03:08Real quick on the details, Giants get pick number 25, Texans will get pick number 34, pick number 99, and a 2026 third-round pick.
03:18So that's the swap right there.
03:20Brian Dable, known to be one of the top quarterback whispers, if you want to use that term, on the entire planet.
03:27And he feels like Jackson Dart, a guy who, as Joe said, you have to – I like his moxie.
03:33I think he'll be able to fight through some of the difficulties in New York.
03:37But he has some sloppy technique, and maybe Dable thinks he can help him fix it.
03:41Actually, Mike, Jackson Dart had one of these Bo Nix types of offseasons.
03:46I was at the Senior Bowl.
03:47Dart was great there.
03:49Really good combine.
03:51He had a good offseason.
03:52This elevated him to the, as I said at the start of the show, late first, early second-round consideration.
03:56So he won here.
03:57Now, the Giants, Mike, now have a future quarterback.
04:01You ask about Russell Wilson.
04:02He'll be the starter, okay?
04:04Now, Russell fizzled out, as you know, as a Steelers fan.
04:07They've got to get Dart ready to play this season at some point.
04:10Rookie quarterbacks usually don't sit anymore.
04:12When I first started cover league, this is when Aaron Rodgers and others,
04:16teams don't think that way anymore.
04:17So Russell Wilson's got to have to play well to keep the job.
04:19Certainly a sense that Dable and Joe Shane are acting with some desperation.
04:24But getting Abdul Carter and Jackson Dart in the first round, I have to give the Giants credit.
04:29That's a good way to set yourself up for 2025.
