00:00The Ukrainian exodus to Europe is easing off. Here's how countries are changing their policy on benefits.
00:12The number of Ukrainians seeking asylum in the EU, over 4 million currently, is decreasing.
00:19February 2025 saw the lowest number of asylum applications processed by EU countries,
00:26just over 40,000, 25% down from the previous year.
00:31Temporary protection is still widespread in Europe, but some benefits are changing.
00:37Private citizens hosting Ukrainians can no longer claim cash compensation in Poland and parts of Belgium,
00:45while Ireland cut the allowance from 800 to 600 euros.
00:50Slovakia halved the length of stay in asylum centers, while Hungary went much further by scrapping state-funded accommodation
00:59for people from Western Ukraine, deeming those areas now safe.
01:04Other countries are tightening integration requirements.
01:08In Austria, for example, Ukrainians who want to earn full working rights now need to have an A1 level of German,
01:17while Prague tied a new long-term residence scheme to a financial threshold.
01:22Neighboring Germany is planning to cut the allowance for single individuals by over 100 euros monthly.
