00:00The European Union stated on Thursday that it is seeking ways of us tracking the migration application process,
00:07especially from specific countries, so that they can be sent home very quickly.
00:11This move will target migrants, especially from Bangladesh, Colombia, Morocco and Tunisia,
00:15who are unlikely to be granted asylum within the European Union countries.
00:20We streamline and we speed up the processing of asylum applications,
00:24but we do not cut back on fundamental and human rights.
00:27The designation as a safe country of origin does not establish a guarantee of safety for all nationals of that country.
00:37Under EU law, member states have to carry out individual assessments of each asylum application in each individual case with all the procedural safeguards.
00:47This is independently from whether a person comes from a safe country of origin or not, and the current proposal does not change that.
00:54What it does is it allows for faster procedures for those whose asylum applications are likely to be unfounded, and including in the border procedure.
01:03A year ago, EU nations endorsed sweeping reforms for the bloc's failed asylum system.
01:08The rules were meant to resolve the issue that have divided the 27 countries,
01:12since well over one million migrants swept into Europe in 2015, most fleeing war in Syria and Iraq.
