00:00The wave of visa cancellations may force prospective students to rethink their educational
00:06pursuit in the U.S., but it will likely be only for the short term, according to an education
00:11consultancy firm. UG Overseas Education General Manager Jimmy Ho said Malaysian students are
00:18law-abiding and academically driven, and confirmed that none of UG's students have been affected by
00:23the recent developments. Ho believes the long-term appeal of U.S. education remains strong,
00:29due to its unmatched opportunities in areas like artificial intelligence and semiconductor
00:34technology. On April 21, Al Jazeera reported that the Trump administration had recently revoked the
00:42visas of over 1,680 international students, many of whom had participated in pro-Palestine protests.
00:50Ho advised students to comply with visa rules, stay informed, and seek help from university
00:55international offices and the Malaysian embassy. Sunway University President Sibrandes Popema
01:02said that while the recent developments were tragic, he does not believe students currently
01:06studying in the U.S. through the university's American degree program are at risk. He added
01:12that these developments contradict the values of academic freedom and freedom of speech upheld
01:17by Western universities. Donish Roger Reza, FMT.
