00:00All right, in sports, sometimes people step up to help people on an opposing team.
00:10And in this Oklahoma high school basketball game, a player saved an opponent after he collapsed.
00:20Scary stuff.
00:21Scary, but cool that it worked out in a good way.
00:25Here's the story on that now.
00:27I lost to Omega yesterday.
00:30You did?
00:31Yeah.
00:32You'd think Magnus and Randy were lifetime friends, but the two only met last Thursday during a basketball tournament when Magnus brought his opponent back to life.
00:43There's no way you could die on that call. I wasn't going to let you.
00:46I was like, I'm going to let anyone in that gym take you a bit.
00:48Three minutes into the game between Dover and Life Christian Academy, 16-year-old Randy Vitalis dropped into full cardiac arrest.
01:01He just went to layup, and I was getting the ball in, about to dribble up the court, and I turned around, and he's on the ground.
01:07Magnus, a trained lifeguard, immediately ran over to help.
01:10I didn't have any, like, you know, second thoughts. I just jumped right in to control.
01:15This is the actual AED the 18-year-old used to save Randy's life as he directed school staff on how to perform CPR.
01:23Do you guys think that that young man saved his life?
01:28No, absolutely.
01:28Absolutely, 100%.
01:29Without a shadow of a doubt.
01:31It's one of the biggest things I've done in my life.
01:34On Tuesday, the two met for the first time since, as seen in video provided by OU Health.
01:40But now, they're bonded for life.
01:43I've honestly done what to say to you, but you saved my life.
01:47You've got to stay healthy. You've got to stay healthy.
01:49You good?
01:50It's God willing, I was there.
01:53I'll always be there for you.
01:55You need anything, I'm here.
01:57It's pretty surreal.
01:59It's weird, like, hearing someone say that you saved his life.
02:03But, honestly, it wasn't me.
02:06It was really God just being there for me and being there for him.
02:10Obviously, I didn't go there to play basketball that day.
02:12Reporting, Kylie Thomas, KOCO, 5 News.
02:16I, it's just, uh, I know we've got to record everything.
02:22You know?
02:22That's the society we live in.
02:24Yeah.
02:25I would have just rather not get my emotional reaction to meeting the man who saved my life
02:31and me rubbing his back and whatnot, weirdly, on video for the dawn of time.
02:37As a young man, that's hard.
02:39I should have recorded when I rubbed out my buddy's cramp.
02:42Yeah.
02:43You should have.
02:44Wow.
02:45I didn't know where that was going for a second.
02:47I should have recorded when I rubbed out my buddy.
02:50Whoa.
02:51What?
02:51Whoa.
02:52His mic cut out.
02:53They've got to close themselves.
02:55Yeah.
02:56Whoa.
02:56They've got to go to the news, you know?
02:57You know, I mean, I get it.
03:00Like, it's an emotional time.
03:02It's just, you know, you never know how you're going to handle it and if you're going to rub
03:06a man.
03:06He would hug you and stroke your back and bang you.
03:09My leg never would have been the same.
03:11Thank you so much for massaging me deeply.
03:13For rubbing me out.
03:14Mm-hmm.
03:16Saved him.
03:17You did.
03:17He was crying just the same.
03:18Oh, yeah.
03:19It hurts.
03:19It hurts.
03:20It hurts.
03:21It really hurts.
03:21I guess that's a cramp, though.
03:22I mean, it's going to go away.
03:23Yeah.
03:23It will.
03:24I don't know if I will.
03:26Can I say, I'm not sure I could rub out a buddy's cramp.
03:30If I cramped up right now, you want to massage it out for me?
03:33Would you rub out?
03:33I don't even know if I would.
03:35I don't think many men would.
03:35I don't even think I'm qualified to rub out a buddy's cramp.
03:37I don't think so, Jason.
03:39I'm sorry.
03:40Let's put it out there to the guys for a second.
03:42Would you rub out another man's calf cramp?
03:45Calf cramp.
03:47Calf?
03:47Can he rub it out himself?
03:49Like, why can't I do that?
03:50Why can't you do it yourself?
03:51I got many cramps that I've taken care of.
03:53A cramp in your cramp?
03:55In your calf?
03:55If she wants to...
03:57You can do it yourself.
04:00No.
04:01A little tip-to-tip action.
04:04Oh, help me, Jason.
04:06Help me.
04:06Oh, God.
04:07Higher, higher.
04:09Oh, it's cramping right up my tail.
04:10I'm growing.
04:11I'm growing.
04:12Oh, it's moving.
04:12Oh.
04:13Oh, it's growing.
04:14Perennium, perennium cramp.
04:16Perennium cramp.
04:17All right.
04:18Come on.
04:18Just sit on me.
04:20I'll help you.
04:21I just, to me, if anyone cramped up in here, I would just laugh at them.
04:27I'm not going to run down and get on their leg.
04:31What am I going to do?
04:32How are you rubbing it out?
04:34Stroke.
04:35Oh, that felt like kneading bread.
04:38You got someone bending the foot and you need it.
04:39I am sorry.
04:41Oh, no.
04:41I don't think so.
04:42I'm just laughing.
04:43I know it's going to pass.
04:45I mean, we've all cramped up.
04:47Cord, I consider a modern man.
04:49He is a modern man.
04:50I feel like you'd be a cramp rubber, Cord.
04:52Yes.
04:53Yeah.
04:54He would rub another man.
04:55He would.
04:56I would talk you through it.
04:57I'd be really gentle and nice.
04:59Yeah.
05:00That's nice.
05:01It's good.
05:01It's good to have people like Cord around.
05:03Anybody need one?
05:04People like Jason around.
05:05Can't be gentle.
05:06You got to get in there.
05:07Oh, you got to get it loose.
05:08Get it out.
05:09Then you don't want me.
05:11He's more of a-
05:12Sweet, gentle fingers.
05:13Yeah.
05:14It's his nickname, sweet, gentle fingers.
05:17Yep.
05:18Got to invite him next week.
05:19Yeah, exactly.
05:21Play some hoops.
05:22There's a lot of no's coming in.
05:24Of course.
05:25Yeah.
05:25Hell to the no, I ain't rubbing anybody of mine.
05:27Hard no.
05:29Yeah.
05:30Why?
05:30No, I just find it funny.
05:32Listen, if you were in danger, if you were going to die, if it was a life-critical situation,
05:39okay.
05:39Chest compressions.
05:40But a cramp during a basketball game?
05:41But a cramp in my leg during an older guy's basketball game?
05:45I think you got to carry a foam roller with you or something.
05:48That's supposed to be caused at work.
05:50Like, if it happened in here, we're not rubbing each other.
05:52I've cramped up during the show, and I'm like, oh, Chuck, quick, man!
05:55Yeah, no.
05:56I took my pants off.
05:57Help!
05:58You should ask for some help.
05:59No.
06:00I'm laughing.
06:01Is it just a sports thing, maybe?
06:03Like, you're playing sports, and you get a cramp, and-
06:06No, I don't play sports, and I get cramps.
06:08Well, no, but like-
06:09No, but like-
06:09You're not rubbing on the idea of rubbing out someone's cramp.
06:13Yeah, right.
06:14Yeah.
06:14Like, if someone's leg cramps up, hilarity-
06:17I would think you were joking.
06:19If you said to me, Dave, my cramp, help!
06:20Yeah, you'd be like, Chuck, get out of here, Chuck.
06:22I just-
06:23I always just look at it as something people go through alone.
06:27It is.
06:28It's like you figure it out, right?
06:30You know, because I think we've all been asleep, and you get like a hamstring cramp.
06:34Oh, my God.
06:35You know, like no one starts rubbing.
06:37You just relax and kind of let it go.
06:37You know, you're like, ah, I slowly straighten out your leg.
06:40You hope for the best.
06:41But we need you on the court.
06:43We need you back.
06:43It's an emergency.
06:44Like, you gotta get back in the game.
06:46You know, like, there's only so many guys.
06:47You gotta win this game.
06:48It sounded like I was like, all right, all right.
06:49Lay down.
06:51I don't know.
06:52He really got his leg in between his legs.
06:55Some of us, yeah, we were scissoring and all sorts of stuff.
06:58Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:58That's the best way to get it out.
06:59Yeah, I get it.
07:00There's a bike half.
07:01So you were pushing down on the toes, maybe, and giving it a nice, almost like this, and
07:06like a cupping motion here, and like a stroking.
07:09There was a couple guys.
07:10A couple guys all working together.
07:12A couple guys all working together.
07:14Oh, yeah.
07:14Wow.
07:15Yes.
07:16No wonder he likes this basketball.
07:19Just going out for the game with the boys, babe.
07:22Yeah, real straight tabs.
07:23Going, playing some ball.
07:25Balls to ball, I mean, butt balls.
07:27Yeah, sweaty guys are loving each other.
07:29This guy said, I was doing Tough Mudder and got such a bad cramp, my calf was on the side
07:34of my leg.
07:36But there was an amazing stranger, and he helped me rub it out.
07:40You're standing.
07:40What am I doing at the sidelines of Tough Mudder?
07:43Cramp rubber.
07:44I've never seen cramp rubber on the sidelines.
07:47No, I think it's just like another, like, I guess in certain things, there are these
07:51people out there, they're doing the same event, and they see a guy, and they just like stop
07:59everything and start caressing his legs.
08:02I just have always taken care of my own cramps.
08:05Yeah.
08:06Yeah.
08:07You know, every cramp is individual.
08:10Right?
08:11Is that it?
08:12Like snowflakes?
08:13Well, yeah.
08:14Some are worse than others.
08:15That's true.
08:16And when you see your buddy on the ground writhing, you got to help him.
08:20Yeah.
08:20You got to.
08:21Well, you're a good friend.
08:22Don't you?
08:22That's all.
08:22You know, it's like...
08:23Because I don't even rub out my cramp.
08:25Listen, not to be personal, but I got a leg cramp during sex over the weekend.
08:30Oh, my God.
08:31And I just arched my toes.
08:34Yeah.
08:35While inside?
08:37That's not too much.
08:39But I didn't even ask my wife to rub it out.
08:42No, you didn't.
08:43A lot of men get cramps during sex like that.
08:46And then they just scream and figure it out.
08:49But like I said, they're individual.
08:51Right.
08:51I don't think, unless you were having vigorous sex, that your cramp was equal to the basketball cramp.
09:00Are you downplaying my cramp?
09:01Yes.
09:02You're just downplaying your sexual activity.
09:04Wow.
09:05He thinks you just go light.
09:06It could be quite vigorous.
09:07Or maybe you were that vigorous.
09:08I don't know.
09:10Cramped up to the point where like the calf muscle was behind the knee.
09:14You know what I mean?
09:14Felt like it.
09:15Holy cow.
09:16Yeah.
09:16Good for you.
09:17But I just got through it.
09:20Yeah, Amber didn't have to stop down and rub it out.
09:22No!
09:23I didn't make a scream.
09:24I didn't.
09:25Well, I could have been here to help rub out the cramp.
09:27Wow.
09:29That would be a weird moment.
09:31I'm just going to call Jason in for a second here.
09:33Yeah.
09:34Just rub out my cramp for me.
09:35Not a bad idea.
09:36That's all the gig.
09:36Get yourself a cramp man.
09:38Just wait on the side of the bed just in case.
09:41I just rub out cramps.
09:44Yeah.
09:44I'm waiting for him to kind of...
09:45I'm a sexual cramp rubber.
09:46Yeah.
09:47Oh, there's a lot of guys to sign up for that.
09:49All right.
09:49It's starting to get too weird between you two.
09:51Yeah, there is.
09:52Thank you, Al.
09:53Got a cramp out?
09:54Oh, God.
09:56He'll rub your crampy crocs and...
09:58Oh, wow.
09:59Get it going.
10:00No, I think most men...
10:02Maybe, you know, sports world is different.
10:04Yeah, maybe.
10:05But most men would not rub out another man's cramp.
10:07I mean, I just, I don't...
10:09I guess if when I was coaching baseball, if one of the guys, like, was like,
10:15yeah, yeah, I'd be like, medical, a medic!
10:19I wouldn't, like, jump on their leg and start rubbing it.
10:22You got no medics?
10:24Pickup game.
10:25Right.
10:25I know, I get it.
10:26Just awesome that we got the custodian in the hallway.
10:28I get it.
10:29Don't have him come in and do it.
10:30Nope.
10:31The custodian.
10:32If he does, be cautious.
10:34So, when you rubbed out your friend, he was able to get back in and play the rest of
10:42the game without, like, moving again, and then it just instantly would cramp up again?
10:46No.
10:46Because your fingers did all the work?
10:48No, he didn't make it back in.
10:49No, he didn't get back in.
10:51Your magic fingers did nothing.
10:52In my experience, he came in.
10:54Yeah.
10:55So, you made him feel good, but then he was unable to continue on.
11:01Yes, we tried.
11:02Yeah, you guys tried.
11:03Yeah.
11:03Lisa, you are at the gym, and a female friend's like, oh, Lisa, my leg.
11:11We just grab a foam roller.
11:13You're not going to rub it out.
11:16That is a way better thought than Jason rubbing his buddy.
11:21Hey, I rubbed him out.
11:23I'd do it again.
11:25I know you would.
11:26I know you would.
11:26No hesitation.
11:27I'm going to get you a shirt that says, I rubbed him out, I'd do it again.
11:30Okay, I'll wear it.
11:31Yeah.
11:31Exactly.
11:31This is the truth.
11:32Exactly.
11:32Jason, you need like a massage gun you're going to need to bring within the Super Bowl.
11:36Oh, now that is used all the time.
11:38See, this is the thing.
11:39That's much better.
11:40It was in my backpack, actually.
11:41Oh, yeah.
11:42Anyone have a massage gun?
11:44No, I don't.
11:44You have a massage gun in your backpack?
11:46I guess I'll have to use my hands.
11:48Because that's what the guys on the baseball team all use.
11:51That would have worked perfectly.
11:53Come on.
11:53Come on.
11:54Come on.
11:54I was like, oh, yeah.
11:56Well, that's what the guys on the baseball team used whenever anyone had it.
12:01They would just have that gun.
12:03I started to think about the gym scenario.
12:06I'm like, there was massage guns at the gym.
12:08Yes.
12:09We would have just used that.
12:11Yeah.
12:11You would have.
12:12You would have.
12:13That's different.
12:14It's totally different.
12:16Come on now.
12:18Here's that little listen in to Jason's basketball game.
12:20Leave those umbrellas at home.
12:23All right.
12:24Rubbing, tough, and strong, and mean.
12:27Ah, Jason, help.
12:30I'm rubbing men.
12:32I'm rubbing men.
12:36Hallelujah, it's raining.
12:38Rubbing men.
12:39Amen.
12:40He's rubbing men.
12:41Amen.
12:42Amen.
12:44Yep.
12:44Tall, blonde, dark, and lean.
12:48Rough and tough, and strong, and mean.
12:50He's rubbing men.
12:52No, like, think about all of the pain that Dave has been in.
12:56Oh, I had to medicate myself.
12:58I threw my back out.
12:59You know, you bought all those different pillows.
13:01Yep.
13:01And usually, like, I'll do a lot of, like, questionable stuff.
13:04You will.
13:05You know, even just for the laugh.
13:08Mm-hmm.
13:08But I've never been like, hey, man, let me loosen you up down there.
13:13Let me just really, let me get in there and rub those cramps out of your lower back.
13:20No.
13:22As a friend.
13:24You know?
13:24That doesn't happen.
13:25No.
13:25No.
13:26Literally, if you just arch your feet, it eases up the ground.
13:30I think, like, you could, as, I, that would probably be as far as I went.
13:34I would grab your foot and maybe push, push it down.
13:39I, am I, have I become incapacitated?
13:42Why can't I move my own foot?
13:43I'm assuming you're down on the ground.
13:44Like, you dropped to the ground.
13:46It was a pain.
13:47Yeah.
13:48So we were, we were, it's not, sometimes, when it's cramping out, you can't get the foot
13:53up.
13:54I can't move the foot.
13:55You need some help getting it up.
13:56Yeah.
13:56So you helped your buddy get it up.
13:58Yes.
13:58I helped him get it up and I helped him rub it out.
14:01And you got him up.
14:02Yes.
14:02Got him up.
14:03Good.
14:03Rubbed him out.
14:04And then he sat on the bench and watched.
14:06Got him right off the court.
14:08Yeah.
14:08Yes.
14:09Yep.
14:10Yep.
