00:00Step back in the spirit of the sound
00:02Unrelated sound to anything from Pearl Jam that I've ever heard before
00:08I agree
00:09I knew it was going to be different
00:11I found that very surprising
00:13We shall discuss in just a moment
00:15First thing Casey said to me before I listened to it
00:20He goes, it's Talking Heads
00:22He said, it sounds like Talking Heads
00:24And you nailed it, Casey
00:26Spot on with that
00:27Because there are parts in there where he sounds a lot like David Byrne
00:30And they're using a lot of synth elements in this particular song
00:33Which of course the Talking Heads did a lot of
00:35And he says, this is not my beautiful Pearl Jam
00:37Oh, I missed that part
00:38Some people were texting in saying they hear a Chili Peppers vibe in there as well
00:43And a lot of negative comments on the text messages
00:47Let me give you my first impression on that
00:50And I'm not a one-listen guy
00:51I've said that many, many, many times
00:53And it takes a lot of listens for me to warm up to a song
00:55Casey and I listened to about the first minute and a half of it
00:58In the Q speakers here in the studio earlier this morning
01:02I thought it was terrible
01:03I didn't care for it
01:04By the last 30 seconds here of that
01:07I think I like it
01:08That's how quickly it turned around
01:11I'm not a big fan of Eddie Vedder's voice in general
01:15Meaning the vibrato that he does
01:19It's very choppy
01:22But I think it fits well with the grunge
01:26Heavy distorted guitar thing
01:28And it kind of slides in there well
01:31And that's why I didn't like the beginning of it
01:35Because you can really hear his
01:36His singing
01:37But by the end of it
01:39The melody kind of got me
01:40I've always been a sucker for synth pop
01:44It's interesting that Pearl Jam's going that route
01:46You can hear Matt Carman is clearly using electronic sounds
01:51And his drum kit
01:52There's a keyboard
01:54Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do thing going on there
01:56Who would be playing that, Nick?
01:57Is Eddie going to be playing keys?
01:59I don't know
02:00I mean, they've got two guitar players
02:01So somebody could step up and play that
02:03Eddie can play piano
02:04But it's probably the producer, I would think
02:06He does some growling in this song, too
02:09I heard kind of angry Eddie
02:12Which I haven't heard in a long time
02:13So there's the vibrato stuff
02:15Which you don't care for
02:15But then this is like some rock
02:16He's pretending to be a dog
02:20Casey, play the
02:21Let me play it again
02:23Let me see if I can
02:25Hang on a second
02:25It's just a couple seconds in
02:28Hang on, listen
02:29Now I heard it
02:49You heard it that time?
02:49Yeah
02:50It's subtle
02:51Steve, that fit perfectly
02:54That was so good
02:55Rhythmically, that was perfect
02:56I'm a master on the ground
02:58Oh my god
02:59One more time
02:59You're freezing
03:00I missed it
03:06You, you, you, you
03:07Cure me
03:07Here we go
03:09Wait
03:09One, two, three
03:11And
03:12There it is
03:13You sure you want to do this, Ed?
03:25It's an expression of the animals in the world
03:28Suffering from the glaciers
03:29What's up to you?,
03:46Well, I know this
03:47You are a historian
