00:00Tampa Bay's morning crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:10All right, it is Military Monday and we have Janice on the phone this morning.
00:13Hi, Janice. How are you?
00:15Good. How are you?
00:16We are great. So we get to honor your son today for Military Monday.
00:19Why don't you go ahead and tell us where Colton serves, how he serves, and what his rank is?
00:24He is a private first class in the Army Reserves.
00:28Okay.
00:28And serves right now out of Miami.
00:31Out of Miami. Okay.
00:33Now, is this something that he's always wanted to do is join the military?
00:36He has. His whole family has a background in the military.
00:42And ever since he was a little boy, he always just wanted to join and serve his country.
00:47Now, was it something else that also got him to join, right?
00:50Because he wanted to be able to play college football?
00:53Yes. So he graduated early a year and a half ago.
00:57So he could go to basic training and finish that before college football started last fall.
01:05So he played in Chicago at North Park University.
01:08Okay. Gotcha. Awesome.
01:09And now, shortly after starting school, he actually was deployed. Is that right?
01:15Well, he actually is being deployed next week.
01:17Oh, my gosh.
01:19Yeah. Once he found that out, he ended up coming back home and waiting for his deployment.
01:24So he joined so he could afford to go to college, but then he's being deployed to the Middle East.
01:32Wow. Well, how are you feeling, Mom?
01:33Oh, it's a little tough, but he's excited, and I know he's going to do great. He's ready to serve.
01:42All right. So what is he doing before he's deployed?
01:45What does he enjoy doing where he's going to get it all in before he has to report?
01:50He's faithful in church, and just right now he's enjoying time with family and friends and getting ready to leave next week.
01:58All right. How about Mom's cooking? Is he just taking advantage of that?
02:02A little bit, but he's young. He's only 19, so he likes to go out and about.
02:07All right. Gotcha. Gotcha.
02:09Well, listen, we are praying for him. We are praying for you, Janice, and we're so thankful for Colton's service.
02:15We want to do this. We want to give you a $100 gift card from our friends at Stingray Chevrolet to hand over to him,
02:20and hopefully he can use that in some way, either now or when he comes back.
02:24And it's just a small way for us to say thank you for his service.
02:27I appreciate that. Thank you so much.
02:30Thank you. Well, if you want to nominate someone for First Responder Friday or Military Monday,
02:34you just go to 995QIK.com. Can't wait to hear your stories.
