00:00We know the hard work and sacrifice they go through serving our community and keeping us safe.
00:06Let's honor another First Responder on 99.5 QYK.
00:11All right, it is First Responder Friday.
00:13We've got Ashley on the phone who is honoring her husband today.
00:16Good morning, Ashley. How are you doing?
00:18I'm good. How are you?
00:18We are doing great. So tell us about Chris. What does he do?
00:21He is a 911 dispatcher.
00:24Okay.
00:25He started as a volunteer firefighter when his dad was a fire captain in Zephyr Hill.
00:30Okay.
00:30He then went to school to be an EMT and worked on an ambulance for 10 years and has since moved to dispatch and has been there nine and a half years.
00:38Nine and a half years.
00:40Wow, that's awesome.
00:41This is interesting. I don't think we've had a dispatcher on the phone for First Responder Friday.
00:44So this is really, really cool and obviously a very, very important job.
00:48And it says here that he's actually administered CPR or given the directions of how to give CPR over the phone?
00:54Yes. He's actually saved quite a few lives by giving CPR directions to people who are having emergencies.
01:01And you've got to just be so calm in that situation because people are freaking out.
01:05Right.
01:05So he's got to be a very calm guy in general, right?
01:08Yes, he is. He's very calm and caring. He's very knowledgeable about medical emergencies. So he's very good at that job.
01:15I just, I love the fact that your husband is one of the guys, the dispatchers, because you worry sometimes like, you know, who is behind that?
01:23You know, you've got to have a special person and a person that can, you know, get information and keep calm and all that.
01:28So I love that he has all this training before he became a dispatcher. I love that.
01:34Yes. So that helps him a lot.
01:36It makes me feel safe.
01:37Well, let me ask you this. I mean, now on the other side of things, CPR, scary situation, fun situation, exciting situation.
01:44He's also helped people deliver babies over the phone?
01:47He has. He's delivered quite a few babies as well.
01:50People that can't make it to the hospital in time.
01:52So he talks them through how to deliver the baby until the firefighters or EMS can get there.
01:58Now, the real question is, when he calls you, is he very talkative on the phone or is he just kind of out of words at that moment?
02:03Uh, yeah, he doesn't like to talk on the phone a lot.
02:08Of course not.
02:09I can imagine.
02:11That's great, Ashley. And what do you do?
02:14Um, I was a teacher and I have taken a break from teaching and stay at home and teach my daughter.
02:19Okay.
02:19Nice.
02:20Very nice. All right. Well, listen, we are so glad we got to learn about Chris and this is a very important job because he's...
02:25He's the first, like the very, very first responder.
02:27That's who you call and then he's telling the first responders what to do and who needs to be dispatched and all that.
02:32So, amazing job, an amazing person.
02:35Uh, so thanks for letting us learn about Chris a little bit today.
02:38And we want to do this.
02:38We want to give you and your family $200 in Visa gift cards.
02:42One's from our friends at Crown Buick GMC.
