00:00Hi, Detroit. We are more than privileged to talk to recording artist Life Jennings, who I've been following for years.
00:14Always heard about him, learned a lot about him, and man, I'm a fan. I'm a fan of very few.
00:22But I compared him this morning to Maurice White, that God channels musical lyricism through life, which he was even able to use.
00:36We'll talk to him about that, but to me, he is that kind of artist.
00:42I see no difference in what Earth, Wind, and Fire gave us spiritually, and what Life Jennings gives us spiritually.
00:48God placed the channels at the appropriate time, and that's what we get.
00:53Life, good morning.
00:55Good morning. What's going on, yo?
00:57Everything is good, brother. Everything is good.
01:00For people who don't know, you're originally from Toledo.
01:04Yes, I am. Toledo, Ohio.
01:06Who showed up at the show last night as well.
01:12What do you like most, creating or performing?
01:16I think I like them both equally.
01:20Like, the creation is like the building of the man, and then the show is just like that instant reaction from what you built.
01:28So I like them both.
01:29Angie Starr saw the show last night.
01:32I was, early this morning, we were talking about the show, and I said I lost a relationship based off your music.
01:40But I was, but I didn't give a, I didn't care about losing the relationship.
01:46You know why? Because the relationship was lost in truth.
01:51It was because you had put truth.
01:53This is, shoot, how many, this may have been 10, 12 years ago.
01:57When it first came out.
01:58So they showed a live video, and you did the church song?
02:04And I said, oh, yeah, yeah.
02:06So that's how the relationship ended.
02:08Because she felt that you were not fair to the church.
02:14And I said, oh, he was overly fair.
02:16He was so overly fair, he was brutally honest.
02:19And I could feel and see that.
02:21And so we split because of that.
02:25And I was good.
02:27Just so you know.
02:29You had a deep relationship with your grandmother.
02:33Can you talk to us about that?
02:36Yeah, I think that.
02:39I hope people don't bash me for saying this.
02:41But I think she saved my wrath on a lot of women.
02:45Because, you know, I think that when we all go through bad times in relationships,
02:51we tend to think that every woman or every person is like this.
02:56But my grandmother, like, she is like the epitome of what I would want a woman to be.
03:02And she did it so effortlessly.
03:04Most of her magic that she did, she did it without saying anything in silence.
03:10It was just allowing a person's space to be their self and to become their self.
03:15And you pursued life that way with other women.
03:21Yeah, I tried to anyway.
03:23Yeah, they couldn't grasp life like that, though.
03:29No, I don't think anybody could, man.
03:32Like my grandmama, she just had a way out of, I can't even explain it.
03:37It was just a way out of, she had a way to make you feel how you were supposed to feel
03:43without keeping you away from what you thought you should feel, you know?
03:48So, Life, last night I had the pleasure of experiencing you on stage.
03:56This was my first concert with you.
03:58But what I enjoyed most was the audience interaction.
04:04And I watched your face from stage.
04:06But I want you to tell me, Indy Trey, how did you feel the way the audience reacted to you last night?
04:12I mean, it felt great, you know, especially when you make a body of music that imitates your life
04:20or rather characterizes your life.
04:23And then to have people living and singing that piece of your life with you is amazing.
04:29And I look at Detroit like home because I'm from Ohio.
04:32So I look at it like this whole area right here.
04:34So it's even better when you can come home and everybody appreciates you.
04:39When did you discover you could either play an instrument or sing?
04:45How did that come to fruition in your life?
04:50I still haven't discovered it.
04:54I don't consider myself like a real instrument player or a real singer.
05:00I consider myself, just like you said, I just kind of convey a message.
05:05And it just so happens that I play instruments and things, too, you know.
05:09How did you learn the guitar?
05:11Right.
05:13Oh, well, the guitar, you know, I was actually in prison, which, you know, of course, everybody know that.
05:20And I was writing songs.
05:22And it was like a prison church band.
05:24They used to do music to my songs.
05:26But they used to always want to do it their way.
05:29They didn't want to give me any leeway to do anything myself.
05:32So I figured, like, well, I better just learn how to play an instrument and then I can have it my way when I want it.
05:38And that's how I can.
05:39And that's what he did last night.
05:42He had his guitar on stage with him.
05:44And I'm telling you, every song the audience sang along with passion.
05:49Hold on.
05:49Hold on.
05:50That's funny as hell.
05:53He locked up, right?
05:55He going to learn how to play the guitar.
05:57Because they wouldn't cooperate.
06:01Now, he know he incarcerated.
06:03So he's going to play.
06:05And he is one of our biggest stars in today's music.
06:12It's a Bible story.
06:15It really is a Bible story.
06:17I mean, life, that's, that's, that's, that's cold.
06:25Yes.
06:26I'm going to learn how to play the guitar so they'll leave me alone.
06:30So I can do my thing.
06:31Damn.
06:33Man, I never knew that part.
06:35I'm going to, I'll never forget that part of this story.
06:37Now, I had a drink last night, but I think I heard a little Sam Cooke from you.
06:41Um, I didn't do any covers last.
06:46Maybe I sounded like Sam Cooke.
06:48Okay.
06:48Because I, I felt Sam Cooke.
06:50Oh, no, no.
06:51She's, so she wasn't totally familiar with your catalog.
06:54Right.
06:54There are some songs in there that you do.
06:56And I told her, in some of the songs, there's a cry in your voice.
07:01Yes.
07:02And that's what she picked up on the Sam Cooke piece.
07:05Ah.
07:05Or maybe it was, maybe it was the drink.
07:09Shout out to the soundboard bartenders heavy handed last night.
07:13We good?
07:14We good?
07:14Hey, man, I'm not going to hold you up, but I, I, I just, I'm thankful and grateful that
07:20I had a chance to speak to you and tell you, uh, thank you for what you have brought to the
07:26world with your music and the lives you saved many, many times because of your music.
07:36And again, I just, I got a comment.
07:38I, I, I'm a crowd watcher.
07:40I love to watch the crowd.
07:42And I saw so many young girls, the demos in that audience mace was from, I want to say
07:47probably 21 to maybe 80, 90 years old.
07:51It's a Bible story.
07:53Yeah.
07:53Uh, singing and being inspired.
07:55It was just, it was an experience.
07:57When Jesus walked the earth, he had everybody in the crowd.
08:02Yeah.
08:03This is, it just is what it is.
08:08So thank you, life.
08:11I, well, I appreciate y'all too.
08:13And I also want to just say, you know, again, like you, you radio personalities and whatnot,
08:17you know, if, if, if somebody has a gift of music, it also takes two, because without
08:24you guys, nobody would get an opportunity to hear it and not only hear it when it came
08:29out, but also continue to hear it.
08:31So that, like she said, some of those 20, 21 year olds will be affiliated with the music
08:37and still want to come get this, get the sermon.
08:40And I like to call it, you know?
08:41So I just appreciate y'all, man.
08:43One hand washes the other, man.
08:45We all in this together.
08:46Real quick.
08:47Cause I know we're going to let you go, but you looked out for an artist.
08:49Uh, she came out and did a song with you from Detroit last night.
08:53Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:57Bobby.
08:59Bobby.
08:59Yeah.
09:00Yeah.
09:00Bobby was so crazy.
09:02You know, she just hit me on the DM and she was like, Hey, I want to sing this song with
09:07you.
09:07And I just remember times when I would have loved to sing a song with artists that I
09:11appreciated.
09:12So of course I was like, yeah, she came out, she did her thing.
09:15It was a great night for me and her.
09:18That was beautiful.
09:18Like, I really appreciated you doing that for that artist.
09:21Yeah.
09:22Cause we know an artist who wouldn't do that.
09:25Killed his career.
09:27Hey, life.
09:28When are we getting new music from you?
09:31Oh, you know, I'm on a whole different format.
09:33So I just decided I don't want to do albums anymore, but I'm just, I'm just looking at,
09:38you know, what people are moving towards most of these.
09:43And every six months, I'm going to put out a song that tailors to that alone with a visual,
09:49you know, in the hope that they see they're not alone in this and maybe get some solutions
09:53and they need them right now.
09:57So you're going to do profit work.
09:59I got you.
10:00I got you.
10:01I like that.
10:02Yeah.
10:02Yeah.
10:02Yeah.
10:03I'm going to be talking.
10:04Yes.
10:04Cause that's what profits do.
10:06They're able to interpret the times and give guidance, man.
10:11Hey, thank y'all.
10:13And I do actually have one new, one new song out right now.
10:16It's called.
10:17Till you go.
10:17They'll never love you till you go.
10:19Beautiful.
10:20That might be.
10:22Life Jennings.
10:23Thanks for, for, um, we know you worked last night.
10:26Thanks for taking the time to do the call.
10:28Thank you, Bill, for setting this up.
10:30I appreciate you.
10:31Life Jennings.
10:31Life Jennings.
10:32You are the real deal.
10:33That's all I just said.
10:34He is that.
10:36All of that.
10:37Peace, nature.
10:38I'll be blessed.
10:39What's your number?
10:39Where are you from?
10:40268, 192, Toledo, Ohio.
10:44Yeah.
10:47Nice guitar.
10:48What are you going to do now that you're out?
10:51I'm going to do the Apollo in New York.
10:53Huh.
10:54You'll be back.
10:59Hey, yo, you.
11:01You that just flipped on this CD player.
11:03I just want to inform you that when you got somebody good, you hold on to him.
11:09Give this place genius for life.
11:13I don't want to ever see it again.
11:14I don't want to ever see it again.
11:15Don't you even look back.
11:18Must be nice
11:23Having someone who understands the life you live
11:28Must be nice
11:30Having someone who's slow to take and quick to give
11:34Must be nice
11:36Having someone who sticks around when the rough times get big
11:41Someone who's smile is bright enough to make
11:44The projects feel like a match and die
11:48Having someone who loves you despite your faults
11:53Must be nice
11:55Having someone who talks the talk but also walks the walk
11:59Must be nice
12:01Having someone who understands that a fuck-ass feelings to you
12:06Someone who loves you for sure
12:08You just remember to never let them go
12:11Cause even when your husband ain't talking to you
12:17She'll be by your side, stay home
12:21She'll be by your side
12:24Even when those women start spinning
12:28And all those gold-digging women disappear
12:32She'll still be in
12:36Must be nice
12:39Having someone who can come home to from a long day work
12:44Must be nice
12:45Having someone you don't have to show they know exactly where it hurts
12:50Must be nice
12:51Having someone who trusts you despite what they've heard
12:56Someone as mighty as a lion
12:59But still as gentle as a blue light
13:02Must be nice
13:04Having someone you don't have to tell you don't want to be like
13:08Must be nice
13:10Having someone you can grow old with until God calls your heart
13:15Must be nice
13:16Having someone who understands that a fuck-ass feelings to you
13:21Someone who loves you for sure
13:24You never let them go
13:26Cause even when your husband ain't talking to you
13:31She'll be by your side, stay home
13:33She'll be by your side, stay home
13:37And even when those women start spinning
13:43And all those gold-digging women will disappear
13:48She'll still be in
13:51She'll be in
13:52She'll be your husband ain't talking to you
13:56Even when your husband ain't talking to you
13:57She'll be by your side, stay home
14:01Holdin' on, holdin' on
14:03Holdin' on, holdin' on
14:05Even when it's not spendin'
14:07And all those gold-digging women
14:10That's a pain
14:12She'll still be in
14:15Cause even when your husband's age are gone
14:21She'll be by your side
14:24She'll holdin' on
14:27Even when your 20s stop spendin'
14:32And all those gold-digging women
14:35That's a pain
14:37She'll still
14:39Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah, yeah
14:45And in my mind I said
14:47There's only two things in life that are constant
14:50That's change and change
14:53It feels like something's missing, but I just don't know
14:57It's like I'm not the same man that I was no more
15:01And all these crazy places they usually know
15:05Are just not as excited as they were before
15:09I think I'm watching constantly
15:13It surprises me how I've changed
15:17My friends are coming down on me
15:20Saying the player never changes the game
15:23Those fellas if you never, never let
15:27Like next to Peter's hair
15:29Cause nobody wants you, oh, oh, oh
15:31Those fellas if you never, never let
15:35They'll never understand
15:37What it's like to be in land
15:41Never, never let
15:43Like next to Peter's hair
15:45Cause nobody wants you, oh, oh, oh
15:47Those fellas if you never, never let
15:51Never understand
15:53What it's like to be in land
15:55What it is like
15:57It feels like something's moving inside of me
16:01My heart is doing backflips in spite of me
16:05And there's no place that I would rather be
16:09Than with you and my kids, my family
16:13I think about you constantly
16:17You wanna be my wife eventually
16:21It don't matter what my friends say to me
16:25There's no change in my mind
16:27So y'all just pray for me
16:29Never, never let
16:31Like next to Peter's hair
16:33Cause nobody wants you, oh, oh
16:35Those fellas if you never, never let
16:39They'll never understand
16:41What it's like to be in land
16:45Never, never let
16:47Like next to Peter's hair
16:49Cause nobody wants you, oh, oh
16:51Those fellas if you never, never let
16:55They'll never understand
16:57What it's like to be in land
17:01Hold up, wait a minute
17:03I'm a hustler, don't be putting my woman in it
17:07She ain't got nothing to do with this fuck
17:11She is a dick and she chills in the pulpit
17:15All you want, y'all
17:17I don't even need to say no more
17:21You ain't got the disease, but you expect the cure
17:25Drown on your knees
17:27Prayin' for that new push
17:29While she's walkin' out the door
17:31She's walkin' out the door
17:33Living in the other land
17:35Like next to Peter's hair
17:37Cause nobody wants you, oh
17:39You know how people always be
17:41You know, talkin' and don't be livin'
17:43Like they shelf
17:45You know what I'm talking about?
17:47Never happened to y'all?
17:49Maybe so
17:51Three times in a row
17:53And basically when it happened to me, man
17:57I got out on my knees
17:59And I said, uh
18:03Lord, they really think they foolin' you
18:07By comin' to church on Sunday
18:11Prayin' and layin' hands on folks
18:13Snarvin' and jumpin' around
18:15Fakin' the Holy Ghost
18:17Bliss a thin line
18:19Between walkin' and
18:21Fakin' it and
18:23Talkin' it and
18:25Livin' it and
18:27Givin' it or just pretendin' it's alright
18:29And do they really think that they could pull the wool over your eyes, Lord?
18:35Do they really think that by fakin' they would say that they would get the same reward?
18:41It'd be the weirdest thing I ever know
18:43For sure
18:45And after this a lot of folks won't like me no more
18:49But after this I'm gonna go answer to you, Lord
18:53I made up my mind
18:55I'm gonna go to church on Sunday
18:59Sing a song that may hurt somebody's feelings so that
19:03Maybe the wheel will be done
19:07On earth as it is in heaven
19:09And now hopefully they will see
19:13I must really be discouraging
19:15A little old sinner like me
19:19And Lord, do they think they jibin'
19:23By singin' these songs full of glory
19:25Then out in the world
19:27It's a different story
19:29I'm runnin' out of people to pray for me
19:32And I'm not tryin' to act like I'm the perfect man
19:37But if you speak about it
19:39You should be about it
19:41Not just preach about it all day
19:43Cause if you do
19:45You're on the risk of chasing some of the most beautiful people away
19:49And it's never my intention to discourage you
19:52Rather encourage you to change your life today
19:55It'd be the weirdest thing I ever had to say
19:59And after this a lot of folks won't like me no more
20:03But after this I'm gonna go answer to you, Lord
20:06So I made up my mind
20:10I'ma go to church on Sunday
20:13And sing a song that may hurt somebody's feelings
20:16So that maybe all we will be done
20:20On earth as it is in heaven
20:23And now hopefully they will see
20:26I must really be discouraging
20:29A little old sinner like me
20:34Life Jennings, there we go
20:36That was Life Alive
20:37You enjoyed them last night, Angie
20:39Oh God, yes
20:40And like you said
20:41I'm not that familiar with this complete catalog
20:45But I know, you know, the hit hits
20:48But I gotta tell you
20:50Every song he sang
20:52I could feel it
20:53And I think that's probably where I heard the Sam Cooke
20:56Cause I was like
20:57He's Sam Cooke reincarnated
20:59He is a voice
21:01Like he's his own instrument
21:03It's hard to explain
21:04And I love lyrics
21:05Cause I'm a writer myself
21:07And to hear the way he writes
21:09And then the way the crowd
21:10And then the guys
21:11The thuggest guys in there
21:13The hardest Detroit hard guys
21:15Was singing
21:16And they was like
21:17Yes!
21:18Thank you for singing something real
21:20And then he has this thing called statistics
21:22Or something
21:23And all the
21:24Like it breaks down
21:25The statistics of what you deal with when you date
21:28And it was wisdom in it
21:30And I saw these young people singing it
21:32And just
21:33It was just a great concert
21:34Called
21:35Statistics
21:36Alright, alright, alright
21:38Y'all settle down
21:39Settle down
21:40Settle down
21:41If you don't know where you are
21:42This is Statistics 101

21:48Books out
21:49Let's go
21:5025% of old men are unstable
21:5325% of old men can be faithful
21:5740% of them don't mean what they say
22:00And 10% of them don't remain the 20th game
22:03That leaves you a 10% chance of ever fighting your mate
22:07That means you better pay attention to these words that I say
22:10I'm gonna teach you how to expose the 90%
22:14And show you what to do to keep the other team
22:17Rule number one
22:19Don't be a booty call
22:21If he don't respect your girl
22:23He gon' forget it's your girl
22:252
22:27He's in a relationship
22:29He'll cheat on her, baby
22:31He'll cheat on you
22:333
22:34Tell him not to sell a bitch
22:36And if he got some of your buddies
22:38He gon' have to work to me

23:08I'm gonna teach you how to expose the 90%

26:39I asked all my friends, but they all say they don't know
26:43It's so bad, y'all
26:46And the prayers are talkin' bout some stuff you don't know
26:51When church done became a fuckin' f***ing show
26:55And they won't let a nigga in with these tambos
26:58It's so bad, y'all
27:01And they teasin' me with these 23s and these baby days in their eyes
27:10And they pass me by, b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b
27:14And have the nerve to wonder why
27:18I'll be robbin' these
27:20Snake-up kid
27:22That's how I live, I ain't need it
27:25I'll be robbin' these

29:50It'll been 26 years, 17 days
29:55Been to five different prisons, got two babies on the way
29:59And they say, it'll be a waste of time to pray
30:02Saying that I'm going to hell anyway
30:05So gotta smoke weed with the best of y'all
30:09Shroudy old Rusty, oh my heart hurt
30:11Like an old man would have cholesterol
30:14Prayed to say that I'm the dirtiest dude he ever saw
30:18Shouldn't even be living, and he a Christian
30:22Should've been dead like 17 times from 17 crimes I committed
30:28Took them all to trial and got acquitted
30:31Left waving my middle finger in the air
30:34Whispered in the prosecutor's air
30:36I just know everything from dreams, from waiting range
30:40Auctioned off my soul for material things
30:44But lately, it's been kinda bothering me
30:47I guess that turtle always catches up with a rabbit adventure
30:51It'll been 26 years, 17 days
30:55In the five different prisons, got two babies on the way
30:59And they say, it'll be a waste of time to pray
31:03Saying that I'm going to hell anyway
31:06It'll been 26 years, 17 days
31:11In the five different prisons, got two babies on the way
31:14And they say, it'll be a waste of time to pray
31:18Saying that I'm going to hell anyway
31:21Somebody loves you, somebody loving you
31:30Somebody loves you, baby
31:34Well, you think no one does
31:37Somebody loves you, baby
31:39Somebody loves you, baby
31:40Somebody loves you, somebody love you
31:42Oh, oh, oh, somebody loves you, baby.
31:48Somebody loves you, somebody kills me, somebody does, you know.
31:53Somebody loves you, baby.
31:56Oh, oh, oh, oh, somebody loves you, baby.
32:00Like Jenny, call her, call her, good morning.
32:03Good morning, Mason and Starr.
32:06Good morning.
32:07Oh, I am loving this show this morning.
32:13I've never heard that song before, and I love it.
32:16Yeah.
32:17Yeah.
32:18Mike Jennings.
32:20Y'all been throwing down this morning, man.
32:22I'm like, awesome.
32:24I sent y'all a text message, by the way.
32:26All right.
32:27Well, thank you.
32:28I love you guys.
32:29Anyway, y'all throwing down this morning.
32:31I appreciate that.
32:32Thanks for the call.
32:33Wow, I lost it.
32:35All right.
32:35So life, so good.
32:36So, Angie, you got a chance to see it.
32:38I'm a fan.
32:39I'm a fan for life.
32:40Like, for real.
32:42Like, yeah.
32:43I just, you know, D, when I saw all those different generations enjoying his music and
32:49relating to his music, it just, it touched me.
32:52And it was like, it was like he's, I can't even describe it to you.
32:57He just can talk.
32:59He can sit.
33:00He can do whatever.
33:01And the audience is in the palm of his hands.
33:03He had Detroit and Toledo last night.
33:06And he sounds just like the record.
33:09I know.
33:09That's key.
33:10And he talk like that too, Angie, all the time.
33:14Yeah, with the raspy voice.
33:15Yeah.
33:16I've never heard nobody compare him to Sam Cooke though, but that's different.
33:20That's different.
33:20I mean, I'm a huge Sam Cooke fan.
33:23And when I heard that.
33:24Well, she didn't know what to expect.
33:26Right.
33:26So that opened that up for her.
33:29Had she knew what to expect, she didn't think he'd sound like the records.
33:34No.
33:35Nah, yeah.
33:35His voice.
33:36I've seen him before.
33:38You see him?
33:39He's done plays and stuff too.
33:40Yeah?
33:41Yeah, he's pretty good.
33:42Quite the entertainer.
33:43Yeah, yeah.
33:43To not be an entertainer.
33:46He's a pure messer.
33:47He's a prisoner.
33:48Who wanted to see church songs?
33:50That's right.
33:51That's the type of messenger God likes.
33:53Because he likes people that aren't judgmental.
33:55And I can tell you, that's what people have been looking for.
33:58I've been to a lot of concerts at the soundboard with a lot of big stars.
34:02But last night, what I witnessed was what I thought music was supposed to do.
34:07Yeah.
34:07Just period.
34:08It was an uplifting night.
34:11D, you said Angie felt the Sam Cooke.
34:14I done hate money.
34:18And I done been broke.
34:23I done been talked about something awful.
34:28Done been liked on by so many folks.
34:33I didn't even been impressed at times.
34:37I didn't want to cry because my pride was too strong.
34:43But over the years, I thought it over.
34:46And after struggling for so long and still holding on, I figure,
34:52You can't be nothing all that wrong with crying.
34:57If anybody says they're that strong, they're lying.
35:01See, crying is like taking your soul through it.
35:05I don't want to imagine why you're feeling that you're here.
35:08When you see your grandma's smile.
35:10All the heavens open up and bless us.
35:13Break down.
35:15Go on, child.
35:16And cry.
35:20Go on and cry.
35:22Cry, cry.
35:23Go on and cry.
35:27Cry, cry, cry.
35:28We can cry, cry, cry.
35:37And I done been played.
35:41I done went for some of the oldest tricks.
35:45Through some of the coldest ticks.
35:47God didn't ever make.
35:49Show the hit in me.
35:52Said I didn't even have an IV disease.
35:56I didn't wanna go to a clinic, all that attention, and that is for me
36:01But over the years, I learned to understand
36:06That I don't really give a damn
36:08Nobody says I'm a man
36:11And we cry
36:13We cry
36:22We can cry, we can, we can cry, we can cry today
36:29Oh, oh, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
36:34They steal a man, they're supposed to cry
36:37Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
36:41They're so, so, so
36:43They're even paying all the problems sometimes
36:47Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
36:52They say a man, they're supposed to cry
36:56No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
37:00So, so, so
37:02They ain'tkon, no problem sometimes
37:05I'm a man
37:06And we cry
37:08Cry
37:13Cry
37:16Cry
37:18Cry
37:20Cry
37:26Cry
37:28Life Jennings
37:34Cry
37:35I got some people hitting me that were at the concert last night
37:40And they said that he did briefly hit
37:42Let me see
37:43I was born by the river
37:46Yeah, so he did do it
37:47A little bit
37:48Yeah
37:48Because it's in his voice
37:50It's there
37:51That's Sam Cooke
37:52I don't care what nobody said
37:53That's Sam Cooke reincarnated
37:55Period
37:56That's why he had his grandmama
37:57Right
37:58His grandmama knew how to raise him
37:59So he could be free spirited
38:01Have a free mind
38:02And be able to teach
38:03The way God wants teaching to be done
38:06Obviously he went to church a lot
38:08Yeah
38:08He goes to prison
38:09He's in the prison choir
38:11But his spirit was much stronger
38:15But his grandmother was his anchor
38:17Yes
38:18That's what kept him
38:18As grounded as possible
38:20At least
38:21It allowed
38:22What she put in him
38:23Even though he went his own way
38:25What she was able to put in him
38:28Was enough to save his life
38:30Yes
38:31And then allow him
38:33To move on
38:34What I like about his music
38:37Is again he's transparent
38:38He keeps it real
38:40With what he's been through
38:41He's not judgmental
38:43But he puts wisdom
38:45I mean he's teaching
38:47Through this music
38:48And when I see
38:49Hardcore
38:50Like
38:51Thug
38:51Types
38:52Like
38:53Raising their hand
38:53Like they in church
38:54Like
38:55Yes you understand
38:56What I go through
38:57You know
38:58And they're like
38:58A man can cry
39:00Game recognizes game
39:02Right
39:02He even said
39:03On one moment
39:04He was like
39:04If you ain't never been through nothing
39:06For real
39:06For real
39:07You ain't gonna understand
39:08What I'm singing right now
39:09But the people in the audience
39:10Have been through some things
39:12And they wanted somebody
39:13Not to judge them
39:14Just work with them
39:15And let's get through this together
39:16And it is a rainbow
39:17At the end
39:18You know
39:19But we gotta get through it
39:20Man
39:21Last night
39:22I'm telling you
39:23We had a good time
39:23With Life Jenny
39:24Yeah
39:24It was nice you got him
