00:01Stop doom scrolling. We did it for you. Here's what you need to know with Amy and Sean on 1027 VGS.
00:08So a plan to build hundreds of homes bordering Red Rock Canyon moving forward despite some community uproar.
00:13The project is on Blue Diamond Hill. It's across from Bonnie Springs.
00:17It's going to feature 429 homes, which is more than originally planned.
00:22The original plans had a golf course up there, but the county put the kibosh on that.
00:26Right. Now it's 429 homes. The original plans, you know, obviously struck down by the zoning commission.
00:32This one was unanimously approved, including by Justin Jones, who has been a big proponent of Red Rock Canyon.
00:39Right. And like very vocal, very, you know, and so I'm like, is it going to be that bad if he's like, OK, but I think it is.
00:48He kind of did it under protest. He did it under protest, according to what I've read from from articles from the RJ and otherwise.
00:54Essentially saying, listen, I'm not really a big fan of the plan, but legally there's nothing stopping it at this point because the golf course was the thing that was stopping it now.
01:03Right. Really nothing. So now the next step is getting approval from NDOT and BLM to create a road that would connect to Road 159, which is the thing that connects Charleston to Blue Diamond Road.
01:13Save Red Rock environmentalists totally against it. We're just talking off air how much we love Red Rock Canyon and how far away it is yet so close to where we live.
01:26Yeah. So it seems like you're far away. Yeah.
01:28I don't know. I think it's sad.
01:29So, yeah, everyone thinks sad unless you have enough money to live up there.
01:33Right. Then they're going to think it's real great. Good for them.
01:36Sure. Hey, you know what we should do? Hit them with a big water bill.
01:40That's what we should do. We got approved yesterday.
01:42Las Vegas Valley Water District approved new water rates.
01:44They go into effect January 1st.
01:47Here's the deal. People with larger water meters were getting charged less than people with smaller water meters.
01:55So if you have a big, sprawling home with huge lawns and stuff like that, you had a larger meter, which means your rate was less per gallon.
02:02Now they're going to be paying the same rate the rest of us suckers have been paying the whole time.
02:07Yeah.
02:07So every additional 1,000 gallons you use within a season, over a season's threshold, you'll be charged $9 additional.
02:14And there are some in the valley that use way above the expected water that each home should use.
02:22So hopefully that'll bring down water usage. Obviously, we know the issue there.
02:26The European Union doing some good stuff. I love this.
02:30A new law has been passed requiring all wired chargers, whether they're smartphones, tablets, or cameras, to use USB-C by 2024.
02:38That means no more lightning cable, no more weird connector that you can only find from that one company.
02:43Everything will be the same. Laptops by 2026. Even though it's the EU, the companies are very likely going to say, well, we're making the same devices for the whole world.
02:53We'll just make it all one wire. So that'd be great. You won't have to ask anyone for a specific cable anymore.
02:58Elon Musk backing up and saying, I'm going to buy Twitter.
03:00Sorry, JK, LOL. I think he realized he was going to lose in court.
03:07And finally, the Knights won a tight one, 4-3 preseason action last night.
03:10Two more games preseason, and then the season opener is Tuesday.
03:14Wow. So fast. I know. Nuts. Love, love October sports.
03:19Yeah, it's going to be great. And hopefully catch a few games this year.
