00:00We know the hard work and sacrifice they go through serving our community and keeping us safe.
00:06Let's honor another first responder on 99.5 QYK.
00:11We've got Sarah on the phone. She is recognizing her husband today, who is a first responder.
00:16Thank you, Sarah, for coming on. So tell us about your husband, Robert, what he does, and where he serves our community.
00:21So he works in Citrus County Fire Department and AMR, also in Sumter County.
00:30We live in South Hillsborough County, so he drives quite a bit a ways.
00:35Wow, like an hour and a half?
00:37Yeah, sometimes almost two hours each way.
00:41That is quite the commute. Now, what does he do for the department?
00:43He's a paramedic. 15 years he's been in the industry.
00:48All right. Now, Sarah, how long have you guys been married?
00:51It's funny that you ask. So we met in 2020, right in the height of the pandemic.
00:57We got married in November of last year, and on our honeymoon, I contracted COVID, so it was awful.
01:08We were on a cruise, and we were in Honduras, and they actually had to fly us back to the United States on a private medical jet,
01:17and I ruined the honeymoon.
01:19Oh, my gosh.
01:21Yeah.
01:21Wow.
01:23It's pretty wild.
01:24Yeah, absolutely.
01:25It was crazy. We had to be separated.
01:28On our honeymoon, he got to enjoy the balcony suite room, and I was blow jack in the dungeon.
01:34Oh, no.
01:35Oh, my gosh.
01:37Yeah.
01:38Yeah.
01:38That is so tough.
01:41Please tell me that you can laugh about it now, though.
01:43Yeah, we do. We talk about a honeymoon redo.
01:47You know, he works so hard. He works for two different paramedic companies, and he's always just busy working,
01:55and just like he thinks of everybody else other than himself. So he's always giving.
02:01That's kind of the attitude you have to have when it comes to serving people and being a paramedic. I think that's great.
02:06What do you think are some of the challenges he faces with a job like this when he comes home?
02:10Do you feel like he has a lot of weight on him?
02:13Oh, absolutely. He works for 911.
02:15Okay.
02:16So he sees all kinds of calls. He has to fly people out. So he sees everything, and it affects his daily life.
02:23Absolutely.
02:24His sleeping habits and working 24-hour shifts and sometimes 36 hours being away from home. It's tough.
02:32And he's a trooper. I mean, not a lot of people can do that.
02:38Well, I bet you he's very, very happy to come home to someone like you, Sarah, to have that kind of support.
02:44When you're healthy, Sarah. I'm just kidding. I'm just messing with you.
02:48I'm healthy. I'm better now.
02:50Well, I hope you guys get to do kind of a repeat on the honeymoon.
02:54Yeah, we're talking about it.
02:55All right. Well, listen, let's have you guys do something fun here in town.
02:58Our friends at Crown Buick GMC want to give you a $100 Visa gift card.
03:02And also, our friends at Demesman and Dover Law Firm want to give you another $100 Visa gift card.
03:07It's $200!
03:08For you guys to go do something fun together and, you know, sit six feet apart.
03:14I'm just kidding.
03:15Thank you. You guys are the best.
03:16Yes, but thank you for reaching out to us.
03:17Please tell Robert we are so thankful for his service for multiple counties here in the Tampa Bay area.
03:22And we appreciate you so much, Sarah.
