Ogle County Sheriff: Man charged with 1st-degree murder after Monday shooting in Mount Morris

MT. MORRIS – A shooting early Monday evening in Mt. Morris took the life of a 25-year-old Oregon High School graduate and a 44-year-old man has been charged with his murder, an Ogle County Sheriff’s Office press release said.

On Monday, April 21 at approximately 4:59 p.m., the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting following a domestic incident at 1 South Ogle, Apartment 13, in Mt. Morris.

Upon arrival, officers located Cameron Pasley, 25, at the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The Mt. Morris Fire Protection District transported Pasley to Saint Katharine Hospital in Dixon where he was later pronounced deceased, the press release said.

“The suspect, identified as Derek Swanlund, 44, was located a short distance from the scene and taken into custody without incident,” the press release said. “He is currently lodged at the Ogle County Jail and has been charged with first degree murder, with additional charges to follow.”
