Song Name / Song Piece La Nouvelle Poupee
Composer P I Tchaikovsky
The Russian composer Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky was clearly following in Schumann's footsteps when he ,,vrote his Album pour enfants (AJbum for the Young) in 1878. The set was subtitled '24 Easy Pieces (a la Schumann)', which means that, while he was composing them, Tchaikovsky must have been thinking of Schumann's Kinderscenen (Scenes from Childhood) and Album filr die Jugend (Album for the Young).
Recommended tempo for this piece is 69 dotted crotchet beats per bar. A good legato touch is necessary and sustain pedalling can potentially be used, but be very careful not to overdo it - too much pedalling will ruin the sound and make it too muffled
This piece is actually much harder than it looks to play properly, feel-wise.
For example, sometimes the melody of the right hand part contains super legato-type notes, such as the opening bars, but at other places in the music there are slurred pairs of quavers - such as bars 17 - 23 - with this in mind it is essential to have a good understanding of how to play these slurs with delicacy and finesse. The slurred quaver paired notes will greatly benefit from the 2nd note in each pair being slightly lighter in touch - and it’s also important to come off the 2nd note in these pairs and not hold it down for longer than its actual value!
