00:00This time we're on a mission to trade up from this wreck
00:03It's the worst car I think I've ever seen, I mean look at it!
00:06to one of BMW's most iconic two-seaters for Carpenter Simon
00:10BMW Z4 is my absolute passion
00:13Well, I just don't know how we're gonna do it
00:15We'll need to make a ton of cash
00:17Oh, that is utterly rotten
00:20So desperate times call for desperate measures
00:23Four grand is a massive chunk of our money to gamble away on a 50-year-old car
00:27We've all got a dream car
00:33For most, it remains out of reach
00:35I've always said to myself when I was younger that when I get older I'll buy one
00:39But unfortunately it's just been a dream, mate
00:40So, I'm taking on the ultimate trading challenge
00:43To make motoring dreams come true
00:45I know you can do it
00:47I'm not Harry Potter
00:49Here's how
00:50I meet car lovers who hand over their daily drive
00:53Where's the petrol flat?
00:54Oh, I think now I flew off down the M1 on it
00:55And whatever savings they can spare
00:58About £500
00:59£500
01:00Through a series of trades
01:03This is a monumental gamble
01:05And money-making deals
01:06I'll offer you £3,000
01:08Hold out your hand
01:08I'll trade up
01:09Yeah, lovely
01:10Until I've got enough money to buy the car they've always wanted
01:13I can't express so much
01:15How happy I am
01:17I'll draw on years of experience
01:19And share my tricks of the trade
01:21If the weather's like this
01:23And we can get that roof working
01:24We can sell this for more than double what I paid for it
01:26Helping me in the workshop
01:28Is ex-Formula 1 mechanic Elvis
01:31It's such an inconvenient place to have to work this
01:34It won't go forwards
01:35It only goes backwards
01:36Yeah
01:37You just wasted £2,300 of our money
01:39The pressure is on
01:41Seriously
01:41To deliver
01:42You're joking
01:43That dream car
01:45I'm shaking, it's amazing
01:46That's what I like to see
01:56A man hard at work
01:57What have you been up to?
01:59Well, listen
01:59We've got our next dream car challenge
02:02And one that I think you're going to be excited about
02:04It's a young man called Simon
02:05He's after a specific dream car
02:08That's rather tasty
02:09What's he want?
02:10He wants a BMW Z4
02:11Oh, good choice
02:13They are a good choice
02:13And I don't think he's ever going to achieve it
02:15Without our help
02:16And he needs it
02:17Okay, well, look
02:18I'd love to help him
02:18But, I mean, that is a big challenge
02:19And they're not cheap, are they?
02:20No, they're not cheap
02:21It's going to be a tough one
02:22Do you know what he's got to start with, yeah?
02:23I don't
02:24I'm going to go and meet him
02:25In a couple of days at Santa Pod
02:26And he's going to let me know
02:28What he's got for us
02:28Well, let's hope it's a good one
02:30Carpenter Simon's like me
02:34A petrol head
02:35He worked hard
02:37And saved to buy a BMW Z4
02:39A car he'd always dreamed of owning
02:42Unfortunately, four years ago
02:44Just a few months after he bought it
02:46He had a bad accident
02:48And that left him unable to work
02:51And he had to sell
02:52His absolute pride and joy
02:54I can imagine he was heartbroken
02:56I'd love nothing more
02:58Than to help him own one again
03:00You look like Simon to me
03:02It's how nice to meet you
03:02Simon, how are you, buddy?
03:04Yeah, I'm not bad
03:04See you crawling all over a BMW Z4
03:06Yeah, mate, I absolutely love them
03:07Well, I'll let you look at cars later on
03:09But for now
03:10I need to beat your time
03:11And a nice sit down and chat
03:12You up for that?
03:12Yeah, let's go
03:13Follow me
03:14Tell me about your dream car
03:16What do you want me to go and find for you?
03:18The BMW Z4 is my absolute passion
03:21I love them, they're brilliant
03:21But it's the second generation
03:233 litre
03:24I thought you was going to say that
03:25Right, so you want the more expensive
03:26Harder to find
03:27BMW Z4 3 litre
03:30It's a great car
03:31It's a great car
03:32Okay
03:32So you've had a BMW Z4
03:34Why don't you have to get rid of it?
03:35Basically
03:36I was having an accident at home
03:38Where I had a chip trap
03:40Before I burnt half the side of my body
03:41Luckily
03:43I didn't manage to get any scars
03:45But I was in the hospital
03:46And I had to sell the car
03:47Because you couldn't work?
03:48Couldn't work
03:49I was off for a couple of months
03:50In hospital
03:51I had to sell the car
03:52Just to pay the bills
03:53The Z4 is one of Elvis's
03:56And my personal favourites
03:57It looks great
03:58And has bags of power
03:59Thanks to that monster
04:013 litre engine
04:02It was BMW's answer
04:03To the success
04:04Of the Mazda MX-5
04:06It was such a hit
04:07That in its first year out
04:08It outsold
04:10The Porsche Boxster
04:11And Mercedes SLK combined
04:13These days
04:14Even the second hand one
04:16Will cost upwards
04:17Of 8 grand
04:18So I'm hoping Simon
04:19Has a decent car
04:20For me to trade up from
04:22BMW X5
04:23No
04:24Don't tell me it's that Passat
04:26Let's ignore that
04:27No, no, of course
04:27It's this one
04:28It is the Passat
04:29Oh, you're kidding me
04:30Sorry, Mike
04:302 litre automatic
04:32Is it?
04:32It's like the most boring one they did
04:34Brilliant
04:35Upcaps missing
04:36Yep
04:36Scratched all over the door
04:39Wing mirror
04:40Wing mirror's broken
04:41Dents in the door
04:43Oh, look at that rear bumper
04:46No, sorry, Mike
04:47I know you're a carpenter
04:49But is that microfibre sort of
04:51Sort of
04:51Goes everywhere
04:51The missus kills me
04:53When I come home
04:53What did you pay for it?
04:54I paid 650 for this
04:56It'd be a miracle
04:57If I could get
04:58400 or 500 quid for it
04:59Right, this is the moment
05:02Where you're going to say
05:03Well, Mike
05:04I've really worked hard
05:06I've done lots of overtime
05:08And I've really achieved
05:10A big pool of money
05:11To get me my dream car
05:12So, please tell me
05:15How much money you got
05:15You got 1500
05:16That's not going to cut it, is it?
05:22That's not going to cut it, is it?
05:241500 quid and this
05:251500 and this
05:26To get you a 3 litre Z4
05:28Well, I just don't know how we're going to do it
05:30You and Elvis, I know you can pull it off
05:31Thank you
05:33Honestly, I have dropped some cars back to Elvis
05:41That have been bad in the past
05:42But I think this one is
05:44Well, this could test our relationship
05:46So, I think we've got a big decision
05:48To make what we do
05:49With a sat
05:50And I need to think about
05:51How to use that 1500 pounds
05:53And actually start getting the trade
05:55Because these BMW Z4
05:57Looks miles away at the moment
05:59What was that?
06:08Is that the horn?
06:10Seriously, that's the
06:11That's the first time I've tried it
06:13Simon wants us to turn this
06:18Into a 3 litre BMW Z4
06:20What have I done?
06:22Are you joking?
06:23No, I'm not kidding
06:24You're actually serious
06:25I took it on
06:25I said, yeah, all right
06:26It's the worst car I think I've ever seen
06:30I mean, look at it
06:30It's battered on pretty much every panel
06:33It gets worse
06:34How can it get worse than that?
06:36It gets a lot worse
06:37It's a petrol
06:38Not the more sought after diesel
06:39You're going to love this
06:40It's got the American gearbox
06:43The auto gearbox as well
06:45What's the point?
06:46And it's disgusting
06:47I mean, I hope he's given you
06:49A massive bundle of cash to go with it
06:51Well, listen
06:52He scraped around to get some money
06:55And he managed to give us 1500 quid
06:57So on the way back
06:58I've been thinking
06:59Right, 300 pound for a bumper
07:01It's going to cost 500 quid
07:02To do that wing
07:03The wing mirror on the other side
07:04Is broken
07:04We'll be spending 1500 pounds
07:07Making this a 500 pound car
07:09So there must be an alternative
07:10Well, I mean
07:11There is an alternative, isn't there?
07:12You know there is
07:13I hate to say it
07:14I never like saying these words
07:15But we could scrap it
07:17This car
07:17Is screaming out to be scrapped
07:20It really is
07:20I mean, listen
07:21I've got a mate of mine
07:22Who is actually a VW specialist
07:24He does break cars down
07:26I'd give him a ring
07:26We might get a few hundred quid out of it
07:28Let's give it a go, mate
07:28Right, I'm going to get traded
07:29This is unbelievable
07:32Desperate times call for desperate measures
07:36My mate Lee makes a living
07:38Breaking down Volkswagens
07:39And recycling their parts
07:40Into other cars
07:41If anyone can help us squeeze
07:43Some cash out of Simon's
07:44Buttered old Passat
07:45It's him
07:46How are you, mate?
07:48You OK?
07:49Right, mate
07:50I mean, basically
07:51Every single body panel
07:53Is dented
07:54Scuffed
07:55Damaged
07:56Everything's broken
07:56Nothing works
07:57How does it drive?
07:58Drives really smoothly
07:59That is one thing
08:00I would say about it
08:01So the engine isn't too bad
08:03It feels strong
08:04It drives well
08:05You know, if you can reuse it
08:07Obviously, that'd be great
08:07Well, that engine
08:09As daft as it is
08:10Can get used
08:11Into other vehicles
08:11What about the auto box?
08:13Because I know
08:13It's not the most desirable
08:14Of the two, is it?
08:15Well, that auto box
08:16Will go to an auto box specialist
08:17That we use
08:18Anything that we get like that
08:20We send to him
08:21And that'll help save another car
08:22Or another couple
08:23If he strips it for parts
08:24Yeah, I mean
08:25That's why I came to see you, mate
08:27Because that idea I love
08:28If we can't save this car
08:29If we can use bits off it
08:31To help save others
08:32Then that's a massive win
08:33What else can we use off it?
08:34I mean, you've got the wiring harness
08:35Will get broke down into copper
08:36Okay
08:37You've got all the wheels and tyres
08:40There's aluminium in the radiator
08:42The radiator core will get cut
08:43Okay, well, listen
08:44I love that
08:46But look
08:46I mean, the big question is going to be
08:47How much money can I get for all these bits off you?
08:50Well
08:51I reckon we can easily start at £300
08:54Okay
08:54And then when we start to categorise
08:56The recycled parts
08:58And we'll see if we can raise
08:59A little bit more money for the pot
09:00I mean, I like the idea of that, yeah
09:02Yeah
09:02I'll give you a hand
09:03And start stripping it then, yeah?
09:04Yeah, brilliant, dude
09:05Nice one
09:05I'll make the tea
09:06Simon's dream BMW Z4
09:10Could cost us £8,000
09:12Even with scrapping the VW
09:14We've only got £1,800 in the pot
09:17I'm keen to get creative
09:19To generate more cash
09:20And I've seen something that's listed
09:22For not much money
09:23But I think it's worth a look
09:25Holiday in backing your home country
09:27Has become all the rage
09:29And that means that there's a whole new generation
09:31Of camping and caravan enthusiasts out there
09:35Waiting to enjoy the charms
09:37Of the countryside
09:38And I reckon
09:39That that's a really good market
09:40That we can tap into
09:42There it is
09:44In the woods
09:45Where it should be
09:47Yes
09:48It's a caravan
09:49And I reckon
09:50It could be a good buy
09:52Because
09:52Get this
09:53Prices have gone up 20%
09:55In 12 months
09:56But it's not just any old caravan
09:59Looks great, doesn't it?
10:00Rhys?
10:01You around?
10:02Hi, Mike
10:03Hello, mate
10:04How are you?
10:04Nice to see you
10:05Eight-eyed and in your caravan
10:06That's fantastic
10:07In my little igloo
10:08It is a proper little slice of nostalgia, isn't it?
10:11It is, yes
10:12It's French
10:12It's an Esterel folding caravan
10:14How does it work?
10:15Does it all just sort of collapse
10:16And the roof comes down?
10:17It's on gas struts
10:19Like you have on the boot of a car
10:21So the wardrobe and the kitchen
10:23Folds down onto the floor
10:24Then you fold one wall in
10:26The other wall goes on top
10:28One end comes down
10:29The next one comes down
10:30Roof down
10:30Clip it on
10:31That's amazing
10:32It makes it a lot easier
10:33Because you haven't got all that
10:34Wind drag of
10:35Towing a full-size caravan
10:37Well, mate
10:38It looks great
10:38I mean, it could do with a bit of a clean-up
10:40But can I have a look down the back?
10:41Yeah, sure
10:41Come and have a look
10:42It looks all right, doesn't it?
10:44I mean, again
10:45Could do with a bit of a tidy-up
10:46And a clean-up
10:47Rear bumper
10:48Could do a repainting
10:49Yeah
10:49Yeah, can we have a look inside?
10:52Yeah, let's go
10:53After you, sir
10:54Well, I feel that I can do the right thing by it
10:58Yeah, I'm interested in buying it
11:00If you're interested in selling it still
11:02How much did you need for it?
11:03Well, I was thinking £950
11:05£950
11:06I do need to tidy it up a little bit on the outside
11:10£800?
11:11Yeah, OK
11:12Yeah?
11:12Yeah, lovely
11:13Thank you so much
11:14I really do appreciate that
11:16Right, now you've got to give me a lesson on how to fold it all down
11:19Oh, I like that
11:21That's fantastic
11:22This caravan may look tatty
11:25And I know it's hard to believe
11:26But there's money to be made in this
11:28As it folds
11:30It will appeal to people who won't have space for a conventional model
11:34Plus that retro 70s look is well and truly back in fashion
11:38That's mega
11:39That is absolutely mega
11:40Next, our Z4 journey takes one step forward
11:47Blimey!
11:49That's caught me by surprise
11:50And two steps back
11:52Oh, that is utterly rotten
11:55We've taken on the challenge of trying to find carpenter Simon his dream BMW
12:10The Z4 has always been the love of my life, honestly
12:12It's the best car, it's the best feeling driving it
12:15They don't come cheap, but I reckon this Estoril folding caravan could be the perfect flip to add some money to our pot
12:22Do you love it?
12:23I do love it, it's amazing
12:24You don't know what I'll pay for it, have a guess
12:26It's got to be a few thousand
12:27I don't know a number of that
12:29Really?
12:29You think it's worth a couple of grand, a few grand?
12:31Well, how much do you pay for it?
12:32Eight hundred quid
12:33I'll buy it at that
12:34Exactly, for eight hundred quid, I thought it's worth having
12:36It's genius
12:37It's fantastic, isn't it?
12:38There's a couple of little repairs you've got to do
12:40Follow me
12:40Right, down the back here is the only bit of damage I can see
12:46There's a little bit of rots there in the wood
12:48Oh, it's wood?
12:49Yeah, on this back panel
12:50Yeah
12:50And then there's the what do we do with it question
12:53Because is it a caravan that we need to modify, you know, update it
12:58Or does it just need cleaning and then we put it back into the market
13:02Because it's all about originality
13:04Or do we need to paint it?
13:06I don't know
13:06I don't know either
13:08But I think probably the first thing to do is to give it a good cleanup
13:10It definitely needs that, doesn't it?
13:12So listen, I'll find out where the market takes me
13:14You set about getting it cleaned up, yeah?
13:16What a brilliant concept
13:17Thank you
13:18To maximise profits on this caravan
13:23I think we should freshen up the paintwork
13:25That needs kit that I haven't got in the workshop
13:28Namely a fairly large paint booth
13:30So I'm off to use the one at my mate Derek's
13:32Where I also need to repair that hole in the rear panel
13:34Oh my goodness
13:42Oh that is utterly rotten
13:48So the wooden frame which makes up the back panel
13:53As expected is just folding away
13:55What I'm hoping is what's behind that
13:58Is solid enough to attach a new piece to
14:00It's clear the lower part of the back panel needs replacing
14:05To save us some cash and preserve the caravan's 70s originality
14:09I want to leave as much of the folding mechanism intact as I can
14:13I'm going to try and be a bit clever here
14:15Because there's lots of good material left in this existing frame
14:18And I'm going to use that to attach some new pieces to
14:20Which should then give us a nice solid base to put an aluminium panel on top
14:24With a new frame in place
14:29I'm adding some proper insulation
14:30A big upgrade on the chunks of polystyrene which were there before
14:34This piece of aluminium cost me £45
14:37And it will serve as a hardy replacement for that rotten back panel
14:40That feels like a good fit
14:44This is aluminium
14:45And I've made it out of this because it's strong but crucially light
14:48A caravan needs to be lightweight
14:50And I've put this right angled return on the bottom
14:52Just to try and give it a bit of protection from water
14:54Finding its way into these lower corners
14:56Which of course is what happened in the first place
14:58And made it all rotten
14:59It's Lee
15:03Hopefully with an update on recycling Simon's Passat
15:06How are you mate?
15:08Hello mate, how are you?
15:09Yeah good
15:09Tell me you've got some good news for me about those Passat bits
15:12I have actually, yeah
15:14We've worked a little bit of magic for you, Your Honour
15:17What have you got?
15:18On top of what we'd already thought of
15:20We've got you another £200
15:21Oh mate, that's brilliant
15:23That's going to really help us on our journey
15:25Thanks so much, that's awesome
15:26Listen, I've got to get back to that
15:28But that is brilliant news
15:29Okay, buddy
15:30Cheers, pal
15:30Well done Elvis
15:32With £700 left after buying the Caravan
15:35And £550 for scrapping the Passat
15:38I've now got £1,250 in my pocket
15:42Plus the Caravan to sell
15:44But I still need to make plenty more trays
15:46To reach the £8,000 also needed
15:48For Simon's dream car
15:50Right, I've had a call from a contact in the trade
15:53Her name's Amanda
15:55She works at a Porsche specialist
15:57And they've taken, in part exchange for a Porsche
15:59A nice little Audi A3
16:01Some dealers, when they take cars in part exchange
16:04They just want to get rid of them
16:05To clear it out the back of their forecourt
16:07And this is one of those cars
16:08It's a 2009, 1.9 diesel
16:11It's perfect sort of fodder
16:13For a car trader like me
16:14She's only asking a gram for it
16:17And I reckon
16:17If it's a nice car
16:19I could sell it for a lot more money
16:20Nice
16:24Look at that
16:25Proper little 912
16:27Amanda, great to see you
16:29I'm sort of blown away
16:31To be honest with you
16:32And I'm gutted as well
16:33At the same time
16:34Because I'm surrounded by all these beautiful Porsches
16:36And I've come and seen an old Audi
16:37Yes, you have
16:38It's out the back
16:39Shall we go and have a look
16:40Here we go then
16:42Little black Audi
16:441.9 TDI
16:46A little bit of damage on the rear bumper
16:48Nice and straight down the side
16:50Plenty of meat on the tyres
16:51Which is good
16:52Before I tell you whether I want it or not
16:54Can I quickly spin it round the block?
16:55Yeah, sure
16:55Lovely
16:56Alright, I'll come and grab you in 10 minutes
16:58Okay
17:04Right, here we go
17:09Oh, blimey
17:11This car
17:12That's caught me by surprise
17:14The 1.9 engine in these
17:16Is the one to go for
17:17It really is a strong
17:19Powerful engine
17:21And it's really nice
17:23Lovely
17:24There are a few things
17:26If you're going to go and look at a little Audi
17:28That you should
17:28Check electrics is one of them
17:30Make sure all the lights, knobs, dials, buttons work
17:33And for a grand
17:34This is perfect
17:36Perfect
17:36Car dealer fodder
17:38It's a good quality car
17:39And it doesn't cost a lot of money
17:41We'll be able to market this
17:43Below £2,000
17:44And we'll turn a very, very quick profit
17:48So I'm very, very happy with this one
17:50How'd you get on?
17:54Really good
17:55Yes
17:55I'm delighted with it
17:56Are you still happy to sell it?
17:57To be honest
17:58We need it gone
17:59It's just cluttering up the place
18:01Well, listen
18:01You said that I can have it for £1,000
18:03And yeah
18:04It's a bargain
18:05I'd love to take it off your hands
18:06Oh, thanks Mike
18:07Thank you
18:07Thank you
18:08Thank you very much
18:09While Mike's out spending our cash
18:13I'm trying to generate some more profit from the caravan
18:1670s retro's back in fashion
18:18So I'm going to leave a lot of the interior intact
18:20And focus on changing the really tatty bits
18:23Right
18:26I found some new lino
18:27That's just lighter and brighter than the stuff we had before
18:30But still ties in with the original colour scheme of the caravan
18:33And so
18:34With a little bit of spray glue
18:35Having already cut it to size
18:37We should be able to transform this vehicle's look
18:40This £75 lino is more practical than carpet
18:44It's wiped clean
18:45Which makes it both pet and child friendly
18:47And will make the caravan appeal to anyone
18:50Who loves the great British outdoors
18:51There we go
18:53For not very much money
18:55And just a little bit of elbow grease
18:56That looks loads better
18:58The final thing I'm going to do to the inside
19:01Is replace the old mouldy curtains
19:04With more modern roller blinds
19:06These cost just £110
19:07And simply screw to the walls
19:09There we go
19:12New, clean, fresh
19:14But properly in keeping with the original design
19:16Well that's the interior done
19:20And looking amazing
19:21Now for the very reason we came here in the first place
19:24To get the outside painted
19:25Painting the exterior will give the caravan a new lease of life
19:30I've also ordered some reproductions of the original logos
19:33Used by the manufacturer Esterel
19:35And I'll add these once I take the caravan back to the workshop to show Mike
19:39Whilst Elvis is away working on the caravan
19:45I thought I'd use the space in the garage
19:47To tackle a few little jobs on our Audi A3
19:51That could make all the difference
19:52When we're looking to attract a buyer
19:54Now this detail here
19:56That's obviously got me changed
19:58So I'm just going to pull the rubber out
20:01So if I get this rubber out
20:02And look at that
20:04I can expose
20:05Three rivets
20:06So I'll drill those rivets out
20:08And hopefully this will just come off
20:10Oh there you go
20:17Look at that
20:17It's off
20:18Right now I managed to find a replacement part online
20:21For just £30
20:23These aren't our jobs
20:25If you're handy around the garage
20:27And have the right tools available
20:28All you need to do
20:30Is to clip the panels in place
20:31And replace the rivets
20:33I've also sourced a missing ashtray
20:35And lighter
20:36There's just one other detail
20:37That really needs to be addressed
20:40Inside this car
20:41It actually smells really musky
20:43This is a common problem
20:45And us car traders
20:46Have a clever way to sort it
20:48Believe it or not
20:48An onion
20:49Is a natural deodoriser
20:51It sucks in loads of oxygen
20:54It filters it
20:55And then it pushes it out
20:55And I'm going to put it in the car
20:57And leave it overnight
20:58It's a little insider trick
20:59And it works
21:00With just £50 spent on parts
21:03I'm putting it up for sale
21:04For £2,000
21:05Which could be a tasty £950 profit
21:08I'm confident it won't take long to sell
21:11A couple of days later
21:13Elvis is back in the workshop
21:15And he's bought that
21:16Estoril folding caravan with him
21:18Oh mate
21:19Seriously
21:20That is fantastic
21:22What a transformation
21:23What a transformation
21:24I love the colour palette
21:26Clearly out of your 70s wardrobe
21:28I just think it's brilliant
21:29I love this
21:30Orange at the bottom
21:31This nice white at the top
21:33And with the new graphics on it
21:34Looks spectacular
21:36Looks really good
21:36It was a huge amount of work
21:38I have to say
21:38But I'm well pleased with how it's turned out
21:40I can't believe it's the same little
21:41Little caravan
21:42Oh we've got new blinds
21:44We've got lights
21:44We've got a new floor
21:45How about that panel at the rear?
21:46Come on have a look
21:47But that's where most of the work was
21:49Do you remember it had a little hole?
21:50Yeah
21:50Well you know how these things are
21:52You start unpicking it
21:53Digging around
21:53And the hole gets bigger
21:54The rock gets worse
21:55So I ended up replacing that entire back panel
21:58And then of course repainting it
21:59But I mean what a transformation
22:01It's just gobsmacking
22:02With what I paid for it
22:04I reckon we can market this for over £2,000
22:06Mike bought this for £800
22:08I spent £575 on the repairs
22:11So we can potentially double our money
22:13What a result that would be
22:15If Mike can sell it
22:17I'll easily get this sold
22:18That's a nice little profit
22:19Yeah it'll be a nice one
22:20Well listen while you've been doing this
22:21I've been busy too
22:22I bought a little Audi A3
22:24Came in part exchange
22:25At a Porsche dealer
22:26Fixed it up
22:27What you've had my tools out
22:29I used the workshop
22:30And I sold it for double what I paid for it
22:32Well the art of car flipping
22:34Is how you buy a car in the first place
22:36And I did really well
22:38To get that Audi A3
22:39For just £1,000
22:40Because I only spent £50 on it
22:42And I managed to sell it to a nice little family
22:44Who are going to use it for taking the kids backwards and forwards to school
22:47For £2,000
22:48So I've nearly doubled my money
22:49Perfect
22:50It's a bit of a worry isn't it
22:52Because it's good news, good news, good news
22:54Usually that's followed by bad news
22:56But look we're well on our way to getting Simon his BMW Z4
22:59Well done
23:00We'll get there mate
23:01Coming up
23:03I'm looking for a handshake on our caravan
23:05I'm going to stick hard to me guns
23:07I need £2,500 for it
23:08And to get Simon's Z4
23:10We need to take some risks
23:12£4,000 is a massive chunk of our money
23:14To gamble away at a 50 year old car
23:15We're trying to get Carpenter Simon his dream car
23:27The BMW Z4 is my absolute passion
23:30To raise the cash
23:31We're doing a series of trades
23:33The latest is our revamped caravan
23:36Our 1970s retro fold-away caravan
23:40Is now looking fantastic
23:42Now within just 24 hours
23:44Of me advertising it out on a caravan website
23:46I've been inundated with emails and enquiries
23:49In fact this is a case of first come first serve
23:52And a guy has beaten a path to my door
23:54He's called Dave
23:55He's into the whole retro thing
23:56He's got an original mini
23:57Let's see if he wants an original caravan
24:00Oh I do love this caravan
24:03It's blooming amazing
24:04Dave you in there?
24:05I am
24:05Made yourself a cup of tea in there have you?
24:08I don't think it's plugged in
24:09It's not plugged in just yet
24:11I never asked you one question
24:13Why do you want it?
24:14Well it's for the kids really
24:15Take them away
24:15Have a bit of a break
24:16Alright well I got it advertised for £2,500
24:19What do you think?
24:21Yeah I think nearly there
24:22I mean
24:23Nearly there
24:24Nearly there
24:24You take an offer of 2-3 on it?
24:29£2,300
24:30Yeah
24:31I'm going to be honest with you Dave
24:33Normally right
24:34I would say yes
24:35But rather strangely
24:37If you don't want it
24:39There's like 50 people
24:40Waiting outside that door
24:41That do
24:42So I'm going to stick hard to me guns
24:43I need £2,500 for it
24:45Okay
24:45I don't think I want to lose it
24:47For a couple of hundred quid
24:48Top man
24:49I think I have a deal
24:50Well done Dave
24:51Lovely
24:51Have happy family holidays
24:53You certainly will
24:54I will
24:54Hopefully will
24:55Lovely
24:55It cost us £1,375 to buy
25:00And do up the caravan
25:01Which we've now sold for £2,500
25:04We spent £1,050 on the Audi
25:07Which we sold for £2,000
25:09And that leaves us with a pot of £4,125
25:13Healthy but we're probably going to need
25:15Nearer £8,000 for Simon Z4
25:18So it's time for me to take a gamble
25:20On a Porsche 924
25:22With a bargain basement price tag
25:24A lot of people want to get that Stuttgart badge
25:27But they can't really afford to get a 911
25:29But the entry level Porsche is the 924
25:33It's still the cheapest way
25:34To get into the Porsche world
25:35The guy I'm on my way to go and see
25:37Is called Dave
25:38He's selling it on behalf of a friend of his
25:41Who's at work today
25:42The real surprise is the price
25:44They're only asking £3,500 for it
25:48So if it's a good one
25:49We're definitely on our way to a profit
25:51If it's a bad one
25:53It's got that Porsche badge stamped on it
25:55Cost a fortune to put it right
25:56And that would totally blow our drink up hot
26:00You must be Dave
26:02Yep
26:03How are you Dave?
26:05I'm fine
26:06What a lovely looking thing
26:07What can you tell me about it?
26:09Well it's been in a container
26:10Right gotcha
26:11It's low mileage
26:12The front looks nice and straight
26:14All the panel gaps are very good
26:16Very nice
26:17This wing is slightly off colour
26:20To the rest of the car
26:21So whether that'll all pull back
26:23In terms of a good polish
26:24Because it's just covered in moss and dirt
26:26Yeah
26:26Good
26:27Long term clean up
26:30That's all you want
26:31No signs of rush around the wheel arches
26:33That interior
26:34Is to die for
26:36Right inside the boot
26:38We've got the paperwork
26:39Well this is the service book
26:40Because this has got a full Porsche service history
26:43I'm really impressed Dave
26:45So it's got a recent MOT
26:48Yeah
26:49Okay
26:49Well in that case
26:50If you don't mind
26:51Can I get it out on the road
26:53And give it a quick spin
26:53Yeah
26:54Off you go
26:54Right now I'm out on the road
26:59It feels initially fine
27:02It feels great
27:03The steering's good and positive
27:05The gearbox is working
27:07Porsche had real success with this car
27:09They sold 150,000 of these 924
27:13So it was a big seller for Porsche
27:14And that means a very healthy car club
27:17And they're the people I'm looking to target
27:20Somebody who wants to get into that Porsche badge
27:23Somebody that wants to get into the club
27:26But doesn't have the money
27:27To pay for a big full fat Porsche
27:30I'm already having it for three and a half grand
27:34Don't get me wrong
27:34If I can get it a little bit cheaper
27:36Around three grand
27:37It's definitely coming back to the workshop
27:39For me and Elvis
27:40It drives alright
27:46It feels good
27:47Your friend wants how much?
27:49Three and a half thousand
27:50I thought it was worth three grand
27:52Well
27:56She said to me
27:57Get above three
27:59But it'll take three I think
28:03Done?
28:03I'll do fine
28:04Lovely
28:04Thank you very much
28:05So there you have it
28:10Three thousand pounds
28:11And I believe that we've bought ourselves
28:14A cracking little car here
28:16It's so straight
28:17And it's got such a good service history
28:19I just need to get Elvis on board
28:22With what we need to do
28:23And we're going to make ourselves
28:24A nice little profit
28:25Who doesn't love a Porsche?
28:28Nine two four
28:30Nineteen eighty five
28:31Nine two four
28:32I'll have you know
28:33How's it drive?
28:35Actually it doesn't drive too bad
28:36This is a cracking little car for us
28:38It looks alright
28:39I mean a bit tatty
28:40Needs a proper good clean up
28:42But what else is wrong with it?
28:43A couple of the panels are off colour
28:44But a good mop and polish
28:45I'll bring those back round
28:47It's got a broken handbrake
28:48So you've got to fix that
28:49Missing a bit of trim
28:50Missing a bit of trim
28:51And I reckon once we fix it up
28:53And do the jobs that you can do on it
28:54I reckon we are staring at four
28:56Possibly five grand
28:57So shall we get it in?
28:58I like it mate
28:59Let me get the door
29:00Alright
29:00Okay so there is definitely a problem
29:09With the handbrake
29:09As Mike suggested
29:10It doesn't feel like it wants to
29:12To ratchet or to lock into position
29:14For the sake of 25 quid
29:16Which is all a second hand
29:17One of these costs
29:17You might end up just replacing it
29:19There are always plenty of Porsche parts
29:22Available online
29:23So it's not hard to find a replacement
29:25If you need one
29:25Okay
29:27There's the problem
29:29The little button
29:30That releases the handbrake
29:33Is sticking
29:34It's not returning back to its position
29:36Which means
29:36This little lever here
29:38Is not catching on the ratchet
29:39So that's the ratcheting problem
29:41And that's why we can't release it
29:43Because once you push the button
29:45Absolutely nothing happens down here
29:46Now
29:47For the sake of getting involved
29:49In trying to strip that down
29:51And find out really what's going on
29:53I'm just going to put the new one in
29:54It's a straight swap
29:56That should hopefully solve the problem
29:58There we go
30:05Perfect
30:05It works like a dream
30:07And only 25 quid
30:09And that loose door handle
30:13Just needs a tighten
30:14There we go
30:20It's not very often
30:23That a job becomes that easy
30:24On any car
30:25So I'll take it
30:26Finally
30:28On to the paint work
30:29I'm using a mop head
30:31And polishing compound
30:32You can find in most car stores
30:33For just a few pounds
30:34It'll take off the top layer of paint
30:36On the faded panels
30:37To make the colour uniform
30:39And the car's ready to sell
30:41Good job Elvis
30:43I've listed our 924
30:45On the Porsche forums
30:46And it didn't take long
30:48For a buyer to come forward
30:49He's called Paul
30:50He runs an independent Porsche dealership
30:53And he's come to the workshop
30:54To take a look
30:55Oh you're still looking round it
30:57Yeah
30:57Still looking round
30:58You're going to wear it out
31:00Can you stare at this car any longer
31:01You really will
31:02So you just love my little 924
31:05Because I do
31:05Yeah it's really nice
31:07So why would you want this car then
31:08Well we're a little small Porsche
31:10Used car dealership
31:12And this is going to be a great entry level
31:14To get people into the Porsche brand
31:16But also in a car that's reliable
31:18Cheap
31:19Easy to run
31:20And they're going to enjoy it
31:22And move on up
31:23Fantastic
31:23That was exactly why I bought the car
31:25It's an entry level point
31:26Into an exclusive club
31:28And the fact that you're a car dealer
31:30And you can retail it
31:31And go again with it
31:31Yeah
31:32Makes me very very happy
31:33Oh yeah
31:33When we spoke on the phone
31:35You knew the price
31:36And I'm going to ask
31:37A very firm 5 grand
31:38Well
31:39I've had a good look round the car
31:42And I think
31:43At 5 grand
31:44I can do something with that
31:45Lovely
31:46Got yourself a smashing car there
31:47Well done
31:48Thank you
31:49It's a good deal all round
31:51Paul can hang on to the car for a bit
31:54And wait for a higher price
31:55While I've also made the profit
31:57I need and quickly
31:59So we're a step closer
32:01To Simon's dream car
32:02With £175 spent on the repairs
32:05We've just made a bit of £1,800 on a Porsche
32:08Which means we've got £5,950 in the pot
32:13Good
32:13But still not good enough
32:15Elvis
32:16You've got a minute
32:17Alright mate
32:19Come and take a seat
32:20It feels like when I was in trouble at school
32:23No we're in trouble
32:25We've got £5,950
32:27And BMW Z4s start at £8,000
32:31We're a couple of grand short
32:33Yeah
32:33That is a big leap isn't it
32:35The only thing that is out there at the moment
32:38Because I'm trying to find a car with a £2,000 profit
32:40Is a little two-door quite rare
32:42Two-door Austin 1100
32:44He wants around £4,000 for it
32:46I mean I
32:47They are cute cars
32:49But I've got no idea what the market's like for them
32:51£4,000 is a massive chunk of our money
32:53To gamble away on a 50-year-old car
32:55He says it's in absolutely wonderful condition
32:57I mean look you know your stuff
32:59I mean there's no harm in going to look at it
33:00Is there
33:00Why don't you go and have a look
33:01Trust your gut
33:03That's what you normally do
33:04Okay
33:04Alright
33:05Well let me go and see it then
33:06Alright mate
33:06Cheers mate
33:07Let us know
33:07Next I'm hoping that Austin could be our lucky charm
33:12Look at that
33:13That is fantastic
33:14But I'll need to turn on the charm to land Simon's dream car
33:19I'm sort of being a bit cheeky
33:20I mean I can give him my shirt
33:22We've been working hard to get Carpenter Simon
33:32His dream BMW Z4
33:34But we're still a couple of grand short
33:36So I'm following a tip about a classic car that's not yet for sale
33:41Often the best time to deal
33:43Now this may sound a little bit weird
33:46But whenever I'm driving around
33:47I'm always looking on people's driveways
33:49And sometimes they've got their garage door open
33:51And you can see a little classic nestling inside
33:54Well a friend of mine was driving up this road
33:56And he noticed a little Austin 1100
33:59On this guy's driveway
34:01There it is
34:02So he put me in touch with him
34:03I spoke to him on the phone
34:05And that is the car that I've come to see
34:07And look at it
34:07Looks amazing
34:08And you sir
34:09Must be Keith
34:10Nice to meet you Mike
34:11Very nice to meet you
34:13I'm so pleased
34:13Oh it's pretty as hell isn't it
34:15Yeah it is
34:16So little Austin 1100
34:17What can you tell me about it
34:19How long you had it
34:19Two years
34:20Two years
34:21And in the time that you've had it
34:22What have you done to it
34:23I did the indicators playing up
34:25The brake lights didn't work
34:26It's not bad is it
34:27No signs of rust or rot
34:29Every panel looks straight
34:30The interior is to die for
34:32The body work looks pristine
34:34But to turn a profit
34:35I need the engine to be in equally good condition
34:38Oh Keith
34:39That's like a museum piece
34:42It's glorious
34:42I feel almost
34:45Insultive
34:47To say to you
34:47I want to take it for a test drive
34:49Because I gather
34:50It just drives lovely doesn't it
34:51It's perfect yeah
34:52Yeah I'd love to take it off your hands
34:54How much do you want for it
34:55£4,000
34:55I'm not even going to argue
34:56Yeah done
34:57Great
34:58I just absolutely love it
34:59Well done mate
35:00Thank you
35:00Nice one
35:01This is a great deal all round
35:03I've saved Keith loads of time and money
35:05Marketing the car himself
35:07And he's got a guaranteed sale
35:09While I can use my contacts
35:11To hopefully make some cash
35:12For our dream car fund
35:14This is perfect for the marketplace right now
35:17This is what we call a starter classic
35:19I reckon that we're going to make a tiny profit
35:21But not only that
35:22Pass it on to somebody
35:23Who also can make a profit in the future
35:25With nothing to do on this baby
35:28I've tapped up all my classic car contacts
35:31I'm hoping to sell it at £6,000
35:33Which could put us in the ballpark
35:35For Simon's Z4
35:36After a few days of nervous waiting
35:38A buyer
35:39Darren
35:40Has come to the garage
35:41Right
35:42Come on
35:43It's getting no worse
35:44Or no better this car
35:45It is what it is
35:46It is lovely yeah
35:47So why do you want one?
35:48My mum used to have one
35:49When I was little
35:49Did she?
35:50Yeah when I was five or six I think
35:52You got some family members of that
35:53Pictures or anything?
35:54I got a couple of photos
35:55Actually on my phone yeah
35:56When I was little
35:57That's me next to it
35:58Oh wow
35:59And that's me
35:59This is in much better condition than that
36:01Yeah definitely
36:02Yeah so
36:03Do you know I think this is the only
36:05White two door
36:06£1,100 for sale
36:08In the United Kingdom
36:09It's a lovely car
36:10And I need to sell it quite quickly
36:12So I need £6,000 for it
36:14Yeah
36:14It is nice
36:15So what do you think?
36:17I got £5,800 in my pocket
36:18Right
36:19Is that something you can do?
36:20Help me out?
36:21£5,800
36:22Yeah
36:22Is your mum still with us?
36:24Unfortunately not no
36:25So this is in memory of your mum isn't it?
36:27100%
36:27This is nostalgia all the way in
36:29Just for that alone
36:29Yep £5,800
36:31A car's yours
36:31Fantastic
36:32Congrats
36:32Cheers
36:33Thank you
36:33Nice one
36:33We bought the Austin
36:36£1,100 for £1,100 for £4,000
36:38And managed to secure a quick sale
36:40At £5,800
36:42So we've got £7,750 in our pot
36:46Plus I think I might have found us
36:48A BMW Z4 for Simon
36:50Mate come over here
36:53Have a look at this
36:53You're going to love it
36:54Ta-da!
36:55I found that
36:56That's exactly what he wants
36:58I said mate
36:58It looks really good
36:59And that's in our budget
37:00That's the bad news
37:02Right
37:03We've got
37:04Once I do all the totting up
37:05We've got £7,750
37:07That is advertised
37:09£8,000
37:10That's where you come in
37:11That's what you're good at isn't it?
37:13So I'm going to go and see it
37:15I think I'm going to suck up
37:16I'm going to go and see it
37:17This is the only chance we've got at the moment
37:18Of getting Simon's dream car
37:20Let's do it mate
37:21You can do this
37:21You got it mate
37:22I'm on it
37:23So it's into the landy
37:25And a quick drive down to Wimbledon
37:27To meet Ian
37:27The owner of the BMW Z4
37:30Are you Ian?
37:31I am
37:32Ian very nice to meet you
37:33How do you do?
37:34Well thank you very much for being so kind
37:36And let me come and see the car so quickly
37:37You're welcome
37:38Wow
37:38This looks alright doesn't it?
37:40I love the colour
37:40This is fantastic
37:42Okay so tell me a little bit about the car
37:44How long have you had it?
37:4518 months
37:46But of mine it's just a bit hard to get in and out of
37:50I know exactly what you mean
37:52Can I have a look inside it?
37:53Looks lovely doesn't it?
37:54So it's got the lever interior
37:56Air conditioning all pumped up
37:58Yeah
37:58Wow
37:59Well listen
38:00Is there any chance
38:01I can take it for a quick test drive?
38:03Have a job
38:04Now this car
38:09With the roof off
38:11Driving along like this is perfect
38:13But there's nothing in the law
38:15To tell me I can't drop a cog
38:17Oh listen to that exhaust note
38:21That is
38:22That is fantastic
38:24What a car
38:25Big engine
38:26Up front
38:26Six cylinder
38:27Nearly 260 horsepower
38:30Rear wheel drive
38:31Hooked up to this
38:32Six feet gearbox
38:33With some really
38:34Nice little modification touches
38:36And it feels really nice
38:38Feels like I'm holding on
38:39To a new car
38:41But it all comes down
38:42To the price
38:43I haven't got the eight grand
38:45Ian is asking for it
38:47And it is worth every penny
38:48Of the eight grand
38:50So I'm going to have to go back to Ian
38:52Kind of
38:54You know
38:55Flutter my eyelids
38:56Plead with me a little bit
38:57Because
38:58I want this car
38:59So it's now or never
39:02This car is exactly
39:03What Simon wants
39:04But will Ian
39:05Come down in price?
39:07Wow
39:07What can I say?
39:09That is an experience
39:10Especially with the roof off
39:11I can't find fault with it
39:13And it makes the next bit
39:14That I'm going to ask you
39:15Really really difficult
39:16Because
39:17I know you put it up
39:19For a really reasonable
39:20Eight thousand pounds
39:21And I think
39:22Truthfully
39:23It's worth every penny of that
39:24The only problem I've got
39:25Is so far
39:26I've only managed
39:27To trade my arm
39:28To seven thousand
39:29Seven hundred and fifty
39:30So I'm sort of
39:31Being a bit cheeky
39:32I can give you my shirt
39:33And seven thousand
39:35Seven hundred and fifty
39:35Um
39:36Well seven thousand
39:38Seven hundred and fifty
39:38Is fine
39:39And you can keep your shirt
39:40Oh Ian
39:41You are a top man
39:42Yes
39:44We've done it
39:45We've got Simon's
39:46Dream car
39:47A BMW Z4
39:48And what a cracker
39:49Of a car it is too
39:51I'm delighted
39:51With the deal
39:52Now
39:53Time to go and pick up
39:53Elvis
39:54And let's get it over
39:55To Simon
39:55Can't wait to see
39:56What he thinks of it
39:57It's absolutely brilliant
40:02Honestly
40:02You think about
40:03Where we started with this
40:04I mean that
40:05I honestly think
40:06That was the worst one
40:07I've ever seen
40:07In my entire life
40:08It was disgusting
40:09So look
40:09We've got a little section
40:10Of open road
40:11Coming up here
40:11I am
40:13Very tempted
40:15To stick my foot down
40:16I want you to
40:17Go on
40:17Now
40:18Yeah that's alright
40:20Isn't it
40:21That's wicked
40:22Isn't it
40:23I mean I was doing that
40:24When I bought the car
40:25But sat here
40:26In a passenger seat
40:27Feels amazing
40:28Feels amazing
40:29He's going to be
40:30Beside himself
40:31Right
40:32Let's go and surprise him
40:33I've lined up
40:34The legendary
40:36Ace Cafe
40:37Nice
40:37Will secrete the car
40:39In amongst the other cars
40:41There
40:41He doesn't know
40:43He's coming down for this
40:43He thinks that
40:44He's just turning up
40:45To come and have
40:45A little chat with us
40:46But let's go and surprise him
40:48See what he thinks
40:49Of his dream car
40:49I think we've nailed it
40:50This local BMW meet
40:55Gives us the perfect chance
40:57To hide Simon's Z4
40:59Amongst a bunch of beautiful
41:00Beamers
41:01To throw him off the scent
41:02Simon
41:04How are you
41:06Good to see you
41:07This is Elvis
41:08Elvis man
41:09Huge show
41:09This is the man
41:11Who's been doing
41:12The lion's share
41:13Of the hard graft
41:15I can't imagine
41:16We've had
41:17A little bit of a journey
41:18Me and Elvis
41:19Goodness me
41:19And he's still
41:21Not forgiving me
41:21We're still getting over
41:23The trauma
41:24Of the Passat
41:25Chat's over
41:27And as night falls
41:28It's time to head outside
41:29Simon thinks he's here
41:31To look at some BMW models
41:33He has no idea
41:35That his dream car
41:35Is actually sitting
41:37Hidden in the car park
41:38As part of the line up
41:40Look at this
41:41Look at all the bits
41:42On that one
41:43Look
41:43Do you miss your old one
41:44Yeah I absolutely miss it
41:45Is it going to mean a lot to you
41:47To be able to
41:48Jump behind the seat
41:49Of your own fever again
41:50It's been so long
41:52I think I've forgotten
41:52What it feels like
41:53Well you can stop right there
41:55Whoa
41:55Oh man
41:57That's BMW Z4
42:01That is your dream car
42:04Oh that's crazy
42:04Elvis guys
42:05What have you done
42:06I can't believe you man
42:07Look at it
42:08Elvis you're a hero
42:09Absolute hero
42:10Seriously
42:11Take it all in
42:13That is your dream car
42:15That's blood, sweat and tears
42:16Has gone into getting that
42:17How does that feel
42:19That is a reaction
42:20Fine I ain't got the words
42:21To describe it
42:22This is crazy
42:23Well it's been
42:23Very very difficult to get there
42:25But we're absolutely delighted
42:27With the car we found
42:28Here in the foyer
42:28It's the big dog as well
42:30It's the 3 litre
42:31Go on then
42:32Give it a try
42:33I can't wait
42:33See if it fits
42:34Lever interior
42:36Six speed gearbox
42:37Air conditioning
42:37Nice
42:38Go on
42:39Shove the key in
42:40Let's have a listen
42:40There we go
42:42Nice
42:43Give it a little blip
42:44Go on
42:44Yeah
42:45Listen to that
42:46Tell us
42:47Does that feel good
42:48Honestly I can't thank you guys enough
42:50This is amazing
42:51It is my dream car
42:52Well listen mate
42:53For me and Elvis
42:53This moment
42:54Makes it all worthwhile
42:56Just to see the smile on your face
42:57And we hope it's made a real difference to your life
43:00Because you deserve it
43:00Honestly
43:01You smashed it
43:01Honestly

43:11Cheers boys
43:12Thank you
43:12Enjoy it mate
43:13How good was that
43:14That was brilliant wasn't it
43:15There was tears and everything
43:16That was exactly the reaction
43:18I was hoping for
43:19Fantastic
43:20I can see what it means to him
43:21It's a proper dream car
43:23That's why
43:23It really is
