00:00:00The power. The fury. The devastation of the knockout.
00:00:07Franz Botha has lived by it and died by it.

00:00:18Scorecards won't be necessary.
00:00:21Plus, WBA middleweight champion William Jaffe puts his title on the line
00:00:25against the number one contender, Brazil's Peter Venoncio.

00:01:23pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, sing, and take the política.
00:01:47With his extroverted personality
00:01:54and inflated record,
00:02:02South Africa's white buffalo, Francois Botha,
00:02:05had never truly earned the respect of the boxing community.
00:02:10That is, until he met IBF title holder, Michael Moore.
00:02:17What a buffalo this guy is.
00:02:19What a heart on Frank Brozo.
00:02:23What a heart on this man.
00:02:29Ironically, in his lone defeat, Botha gained his greatest victory,
00:02:33for his courageous performance silenced his critics
00:02:36and earned their respect.
00:02:38Now, in his comeback fight,
00:02:40the white buffalo is looking to separate himself
00:02:43from the rest of the heavyweight herd
00:02:44as he takes on James Stanton
00:02:46for the newly created WBA North American heavyweight title.
00:02:51Plus, unbeaten William Jaffe
00:02:53faces number one contender Peter Bonancio
00:02:55for the WBA middleweight crown.
00:02:58Next on Showtime Championship Boxing.
00:03:01While the cosmopolitan city of Miami
00:03:20is famous for its beautiful beaches and wild nightlife,
00:03:25tonight it serves as the host
00:03:26for a pair of professional prize fights.
00:03:31And welcome to the Sunshine State.
00:03:34Well, they could have bought this card outside.
00:03:36It's just that nice, magnificent weather here in South Florida.
00:03:39Temperatures in the 80s, clear and comfortable.
00:03:41Tonight we come to you live
00:03:42from the Coconut Grove Convention Center
00:03:44in beautiful Coconut Grove, Florida,
00:03:46just outside Miami.
00:03:48Seating capacity about 2,500 for boxing.
00:03:50Good crowd on hand.
00:03:51The fans eagerly anticipate fight night in Florida
00:03:54as we settle in for yet another edition
00:03:56of Showtime Championship Boxing.
00:04:00Hello again, everybody.
00:04:01I'm Steve Albert.
00:04:02Glad you could join us.
00:04:03Tonight the focus falls on the heavyweights and middleweights.
00:04:06Our main event features the entertaining
00:04:08William Jaffe, who will put his WBA middleweight championship
00:04:11and undefeated record on the line
00:04:12against hard-hitting number one contender
00:04:14Peter Bonancio of Brazil, now a resident of Miami.
00:04:17Also this evening, you'll see the white buffalo, Francois Botha,
00:04:21former IVF heavyweight champion, albeit briefly.
00:04:24Both are one of those cases where a fighter's stock
00:04:26went up in defeat, coming off the heroic
00:04:28but losing effort against IVF heavyweight champ Michael Moore.
00:04:32Botha will meet unheralded Philadelphia fighter James Stanton
00:04:35for the recently formed WBA North American heavyweight title.
00:04:40In addition, we'll show you highlights
00:04:41from two other world championship fights
00:04:43that took place here earlier tonight.
00:04:45With that, let me bring on my partners at ringside first,
00:04:47the fight doctor, Ferdie Pacheco.
00:04:50And Ferdie, is William Jaffe ready to break out
00:04:52in a division still in search of name recognition?
00:04:55Well, that's Jaffe's fame that he has to maintain.
00:05:00He has to break through.
00:05:01He's got to unify the title.
00:05:03That's in his mind.
00:05:04He wants to unify the title and be the number one guy.
00:05:06In order to do that, he's got to look good tonight.
00:05:08And it's not an easy task ahead of him tonight.
00:05:10So Jaffe is determined to become the number one guy
00:05:13in the middleweights, and we'll see what happens tonight.
00:05:15All right, Ferdie, as we turn to our other partner here,
00:05:17Bobby Chez.
00:05:18And Bobby, let's talk about the white buffalo, Franz Botha.
00:05:22Where is he in the grand scheme of things
00:05:24in terms of the heavyweight division?
00:05:26And we should point out he's fighting for
00:05:27what we would call a manufactured title here tonight.
00:05:30Yes, certainly is.
00:05:31But Franz Botha is the former heavyweight champion of the world
00:05:33with only one loss to Michael Moore.
00:05:35Right now he's rated in the top five.
00:05:36He's very much in the thick of things.
00:05:38He's one or two fights away from, once again,
00:05:40challenging for the heavyweight championship.
00:05:41And maybe, Steve, the grand prize of prizes,
00:05:44the winner of Tyson Holyfield 2.
00:05:46All right, we'll look forward to your comments throughout,
00:05:48as well as those of the fight doctor.
00:05:49But coming up first from the Coconut Grove Convention Center
00:05:52here in Coconut Grove, Florida,
00:05:54it is the first WBA North American heavyweight championship.
00:05:58is highly rated Franz Botha of South Africa
00:06:00takes on unranked James Stanton from Philadelphia, PA.
00:06:05Well, up until recently, Franz Botha's ring record
00:06:07was anything but a who's who of boxing.
00:06:10Many felt he hadn't sufficiently paid his dues
00:06:12in terms of quality opposition.
00:06:14But he momentarily stifled his critics
00:06:16with the victory over Axel Schultz in 95
00:06:18for the vacant IVF title.
00:06:19He was ultimately stripped of the belt
00:06:21for testing positive to steroids in that fight,
00:06:24a fact which he contests to this day,
00:06:26claiming he was on medication prescribed by his doctor.
00:06:29Botha again rose above expectations
00:06:31with his inspiring performance
00:06:33against the enigmatic Michael Moore last November.
00:06:36Botha lost that championship fight
00:06:37but definitely displayed the heart of a champion.
00:06:41We were curious as to how both of you
00:06:43his career options following his first defeat.
00:06:46I'm in a very good position,
00:06:48being number one for Tyson Holyfield.
00:06:51Also, Lennox Lewis out there,
00:06:52possibility of fighting him in South Africa
00:06:54where I think 100 million views is possible.
00:06:58So, you know, the future looks very bright.
00:07:00You know, it's just don't make mistakes.
00:07:02That's probably what I must look out for mostly
00:07:05is the mistakes
00:07:06because you can't estimate anyone you're fighting,
00:07:09especially when you're in such a good position.
00:07:10All right, he really had a lot of grit, determination,
00:07:14and fortitude, although he lost the fight.
00:07:17Fight's kind of a lulling, plotting kind of a pace,
00:07:20but effective.
00:07:21Gets the job done, both of them.
00:07:22Well, Steve, he's certainly not a speaser.
00:07:24He comes forward and likes to kind of get to the fight early.
00:07:26Bang, muscling his opponent, bang to the body.
00:07:28Kind of hard punches early.
00:07:29Not much of a boxer, but he has had a tendency
00:07:31to get a little sloppy late, drop his hands,
00:07:34and also tire and fatigue.
00:07:35He's been working defensively,
00:07:36but right now he's the kind of fighter that wants to come,
00:07:38get right to the fight, no musk about it,
00:07:40just get punching.
00:07:42Matty felt that Franz Botha was in way over his head
00:07:45against Michael Moore.
00:07:46Is that the case tonight for James Stanton
00:07:48against Franz Botha?
00:07:49It's kind of the reverse.
00:07:51Now all of a sudden it's Botha,
00:07:53who was such an underdog in that first fight,
00:07:54who thought he could give Moore any kind of a fight,
00:07:56and he comes up with that great fight.
00:07:58Now it's the opposite.
00:07:59It's an unknown.
00:08:00It's a guy hadn't fought in 400 and some odd days.
00:08:02It's a guy that's lost twice.
00:08:04Boy, if he can beat Botha,
00:08:05that's a big feather in his hat.
00:08:07We'll see if that's a factor, the ring rust,
00:08:09and is he even in the league of Francois Botha
00:08:12as we take a look at Mr. Stanton right here.
00:08:15There he is, former high school athlete,
00:08:18great star in high school,
00:08:19unrated in boxing,
00:08:21only 18 pro fights.
00:08:22His first shot at a crown of any sort
00:08:24after starting at 16-0.
00:08:25He lost his last two fights,
00:08:26taking both on short notice,
00:08:28as is the case tonight,
00:08:29only six days' notice.
00:08:30off a six-round TKO loss
00:08:32to former WBC heavyweight champ Oliver McCall
00:08:35over a year ago.
00:08:36He chose not to continue after round six.
00:08:39James Stanton inactive over a year,
00:08:52which he said was due to personal problems.
00:08:55Tonight, his third straight fight on short notice.
00:08:57But Bobby,
00:08:57he told us in our discussions with him yesterday
00:09:00that he was training to fight May 6th anyway,
00:09:04so he's in shape.
00:09:06Well, if he was training to fight May 6th
00:09:07and stayed in shape,
00:09:08then a day or two,
00:09:09there is no big difference, Steve.
00:09:11And he can move,
00:09:11he can box.
00:09:12If he is in shape,
00:09:13which he says he is,
00:09:14we could have as a great fight.
00:09:16Well, he feels that both his camp
00:09:18thinks he's not ready
00:09:19and they're looking past him.
00:09:21Botha told us
00:09:21he can't underestimate anybody
00:09:23because he wants to be number one
00:09:25in line to fight
00:09:26the winner of Holyfield, Tyson.
00:09:29Let's take a look at French Swabotha.
00:09:32There he is,
00:09:33the White Buffalo up.
00:09:34The impressive effort against Michael Moore.
00:09:35Some consider his fight
00:09:36with Axel Schultz a 95-0 contest.
00:09:39IVF considers it a win.
00:09:40So in some circles,
00:09:41he's 35-1 with one no contest.
00:09:43Listed here tonight, 36-1.
00:09:45That fight in Germany highly disputed,
00:09:48prompting a bottle-and-glass-throwing incident
00:09:51by angry fans,
00:09:52but no disputing both his courage
00:09:53when he met Moore this past November.
00:09:57In fact, Bobby,
00:09:59he said prior to that fight with Moore
00:10:01that this fight
00:10:03is going to give me
00:10:04a lot of credibility.
00:10:06Fans of the psychic hotline
00:10:07would love him for saying that.
00:10:09You know,
00:10:10they all say what they want to say.
00:10:12They all feel what they want to feel.
00:10:13Fans both have fought his heart
00:10:14out in the Michael Moore fight
00:10:15and raised his stock in a loss,
00:10:17which does not happen very often.
00:10:19So we know he has what it takes
00:10:20to beat the thick of things
00:10:22at that level,
00:10:23but again,
00:10:23Michael Moore
00:10:24is a nice type of fighter,
00:10:26so we need to see him
00:10:27against Moore and better heavyweights.
00:10:29How would you like
00:10:30to be wearing that outfit
00:10:31coming in here
00:10:32in this humidity?
00:10:33Steve,
00:10:34I'm sweating in the suit.
00:10:35You know,
00:10:36you'd look nice in that,
00:10:37by the way.
00:10:38It looks nice,
00:10:38but I probably wear his battery.
00:10:39Here he comes,
00:10:47Francois Botha,
00:10:48the white buffalo
00:10:50being urged on
00:10:51by his fiery trainer,
00:10:52Sterling McPherson,
00:10:53a former welterweight contender.
00:10:55He likes to psych up
00:10:56the low-key Botha
00:10:58in very demonstrative fashion.
00:11:00Oh, yes,
00:11:00you know,
00:11:00you listen to Sterling
00:11:01in the corner,
00:11:02it's a great fight of words.
00:11:03He likes to get his man motivated.
00:11:05He gets into the game.
00:11:06He pulls out no punches.
00:11:08He pulls out all the stuff.
00:11:10All right, Bobby,
00:11:10let's size him up
00:11:11as we check out
00:11:12the tail of the tape.
00:11:13Botha at 28,
00:11:14four years older than Stanton.
00:11:16That's the biggest disparity,
00:11:17otherwise very close.
00:11:18Both men are 6'2".
00:11:19Botha up from 224,
00:11:21his last fight,
00:11:22now 230 and a half.
00:11:24Stanton at 227,
00:11:2610 pounds heavier
00:11:26than his last fight,
00:11:28but that was over a year ago.
00:11:29The reach almost even.
00:11:31And the WBA rules
00:11:32for this regional championship,
00:11:34scoring under the
00:11:3510-point must system,
00:11:36three scoring judges,
00:11:37no standing eight count,
00:11:38free knockdown rule,
00:11:39is in effect.
00:11:40Only the referee
00:11:41can stop the fight.
00:11:41A fighter cannot be saved
00:11:42by the bell
00:11:43except in the last round.
00:11:44If an accidental foul
00:11:45occurs before the end
00:11:46of the fourth round,
00:11:47the fight is declared
00:11:47a technical draw.
00:11:49If it happens after
00:11:50the end of the fourth,
00:11:50they go to the scorecards.
00:11:52Incomplete rounds
00:11:52are not scored.
00:11:53So here at the Coconut Grove

00:15:13against Michael Moore
00:15:14in the later rounds.
00:15:16Fought on guts and instinct
00:15:17and here is James Stanton
00:15:19hasn't fought,
00:15:20as Ferdy mentioned,
00:15:21in 412 days to be exact,
00:15:23looking to bounce back
00:15:24after a disappointing
00:15:25fight with Oliver McCall,
00:15:27which he said
00:15:28was due to personal problems.
00:15:29Stanton stopped fighting
00:15:30after,
00:15:30after six rounds.
00:15:32Number one,
00:15:32what does this title mean?
00:15:34It's a, you know,
00:15:35meaningless title
00:15:36and number two,
00:15:38what does it mean?
00:15:39What is the significance
00:15:40if both beats
00:15:41an unrated guy like Stanton?
00:15:44There's no real significance here.
00:15:45It's a, you know,
00:15:45it's a title,
00:15:46it sounds nice,
00:15:47it's another reason
00:15:47to charge somebody
00:15:48a sanctioned fee,
00:15:49but it's not really
00:15:50a worthwhile title
00:15:51and doesn't really mean anything.
00:15:52Yeah, we've gotten out
00:15:53of the world of boxing
00:15:54and into the world
00:15:54of show business.
00:15:55It's entertainment
00:15:56when you start giving out
00:15:57the titles like that.
00:15:58It's meaningless.
00:15:59But what happens
00:16:00if he loses both of it,
00:16:02that's meaningful.
00:16:03What happens if he wins well,
00:16:04that's meaningful
00:16:04because he's in life
00:16:06as big money.
00:16:07All right,
00:16:08in the world of technical,
00:16:10both have told us
00:16:11he'll feel out to Stanton
00:16:12in the first round
00:16:13and move forward.
00:16:14He feels as soon
00:16:14as he touches Stanton,
00:16:16it'll be the beginning
00:16:17of the end.
00:16:18He said he watched
00:16:19tapes of Stanton,
00:16:20told us he moves well,
00:16:22but he's more show
00:16:23than substance,
00:16:24won't be able to take
00:16:24the heat.
00:16:26And also pointed out,
00:16:28as we know,
00:16:29that he had some difficulty
00:16:30with his heart
00:16:31against McCall.
00:16:33Heart as in courage.
00:16:34Well, I'll tell you,
00:16:35right now,
00:16:35Stanton is not moving.
00:16:36He's stepping to Franz Botha,
00:16:38keeping his hands tight,
00:16:39pretty good defense,
00:16:41throwing a couple body shots
00:16:42and sticking the jab,
00:16:43stuffing it up
00:16:43the middle a little bit,
00:16:44but he's not moving.
00:16:45Botha right now,
00:16:46a little more effective,
00:16:46but not a lot of action.
00:16:48But not what he said.
00:16:49He said he's going to move,
00:16:50he's going to box.
00:16:51Stanton said he was going
00:16:52to show him some boxing
00:16:53because this guy didn't know
00:16:54how to take movement.
00:16:55Well, there's no movement.
00:16:56He's right in front of him.
00:16:57That's his idea of movement.
00:16:59Ain't going to work.
00:17:00But I'll tell you what,
00:17:01he has a nice right
00:17:01hand and a body idea.
00:17:03At least he started
00:17:04a couple shots in there.
00:17:05Because if you look,
00:17:06I mean, you look at Franz's body,
00:17:07he's okay,
00:17:07this is not a very well-conditioned
00:17:09tummy area.
00:17:10Well, he's got the spare tire,
00:17:12he said for the first time
00:17:13in his life.
00:17:13He's working with weights,
00:17:14trying to build up his chest
00:17:16a little bit.
00:17:17Stanton told us he'll box Botha
00:17:19until he can seize the opportunity.
00:17:21He'll jab, throw body shots,
00:17:23throw from angles.
00:17:24He said Botha doesn't have
00:17:25the endurance,
00:17:26generally weakens
00:17:27in the later rounds,
00:17:29fights in spurts,
00:17:30and that he loads up.
00:17:31Well, we saw what happened
00:17:32in the later rounds
00:17:33when he was utterly exhausted
00:17:34against Michael Moore.
00:17:35His punches were still
00:17:37pretty powerful.
00:17:38He's punching hard right now.
00:17:40Those last two or three shots
00:17:41were hard.
00:17:42He wants to put that hurt
00:17:44on him than he said
00:17:44in the first round.
00:17:45So far, he's done all right.
00:17:47He's not huge,
00:17:48but he's done all right.
00:17:49Botha's definitely
00:17:50got the heavier hands
00:17:51of the two.
00:17:51Stanton, not a big puncher,
00:17:53but he's not using range
00:17:54and some good movement
00:17:55because he's obviously
00:17:56a better move,
00:17:57a better boxer.
00:17:57Botha will not get
00:17:58on the outside
00:17:59and start dancing,
00:18:00whereas Stanton can.
00:18:01He's not fighting
00:18:02the best fight he can.
00:18:03No, he's not doing
00:18:04what he said he was going
00:18:04to do.
00:18:05He's abandoned all that,
00:18:06and that may be
00:18:07because it's 412 days away
00:18:08from when he danced
00:18:09the last time
00:18:10and he didn't dance
00:18:10botha said he has to win
00:18:14and look good
00:18:15in the process.
00:18:16He's worked on his movement,
00:18:17his defense
00:18:17since the Moura fight
00:18:19back in November.
00:18:21As we head for the bell
00:18:23in round one,
00:18:24scheduled 412.
00:18:26Well, right now,
00:18:27let's revisit
00:18:27Franz Botha's last fight
00:18:29versus Michael Moore
00:18:30for the IBF heavyweight crown
00:18:31when there was almost
00:18:33as much action
00:18:34in the corners
00:18:35as there was
00:18:37in the fight.
00:18:44You give me three more rounds,
00:18:46you're going to win the fight.
00:18:48Do you think you're
00:18:48going three more rounds?
00:18:49You go all day in the gym.
00:18:51Now be quiet.
00:18:53You don't want to fight no more.
00:18:55I swear to God,
00:18:56I will have this man
00:18:57stop the fight
00:18:58if you don't want to fight.
00:18:59Wake up.
00:19:00Wake up.
00:19:00Don't go to street, Arnold.
00:19:01We got a title to win,
00:19:03God damn it.
00:19:03With a little son.
00:19:05Now we'll be told
00:19:06that his son beat Hollyfield.
00:19:07We'll be told
00:19:08he's being forced
00:19:09to a guy named Bulkner.
00:19:10Hey, champion.
00:19:11God damn it,
00:19:12you said you wanted this money.
00:19:13You said you wanted this title.
00:19:15Here.
00:19:16Go, steal it away.
00:19:27Yes, the odd couple,
00:19:28now the split couple
00:19:30after the fight.
00:19:30Teddy Atlas announced
00:19:32he was leaving
00:19:32the Moira camp.
00:19:34And Sterling McPherson,
00:19:35who describes himself
00:19:36as passionate,
00:19:37very animated
00:19:39in the ear of Franz Bogen.
00:19:40He reminds me of
00:19:41in Ali's corner.
00:19:44You have a poet
00:19:45of the street.
00:19:45This guy can really
00:19:46come up with words.
00:19:47I mean, he's wonderful,
00:19:48Sterling McPherson,
00:19:49in the corner.
00:19:50All right, round two.
00:19:51And down goes Stanton.
00:19:53Out of nowhere,
00:19:54it's not being ruled
00:19:55as a knockdown.
00:19:55No, he kind of grabbed him
00:19:56by the head
00:19:57and pulled him down.
00:19:58He was ducking,
00:19:59trying to throw a body shot,
00:20:00and Bother just
00:20:00booked him by his ear
00:20:01and tossed him to the ground.
00:20:04Bother said,
00:20:04no matter what he hears
00:20:05or what people tell him,
00:20:06he cannot underestimate
00:20:07Stanton because he wants
00:20:09to get in line
00:20:10for a big payday.
00:20:14Meanwhile, Stanton
00:20:15says the key here
00:20:16is that the Bother
00:20:17camp is looking past him.
00:20:20He has been sparring
00:20:21with the Cruiserweight champ,
00:20:23Nate Miller.
00:20:25That's Stanton.
00:20:26Certainly not the right style
00:20:28to get geared up
00:20:28for both of them,
00:20:29but Nate Miller,
00:20:30an excellent fighter.
00:20:31He's strong Cruiserweight,
00:20:33not even in the same weight class.
00:20:34He said against Miller
00:20:36and Cruiserweight,
00:20:36you've got to use speed
00:20:37and quickness
00:20:38and you can't load up.
00:20:39Right here,
00:20:39he's fighting a plotting
00:20:41type of a guy
00:20:42in Franz Bother.
00:20:44And speed and quickness
00:20:45are both missing.
00:20:46I haven't seen either one yet
00:20:47from Stanton.
00:20:50Speeding quickness
00:20:50won't be the same one.
00:20:52Went a little faster
00:20:53than the other one.
00:20:55The methodical Francois Bother
00:20:57rated number four
00:20:58by the WBA.
00:21:00Nice combination
00:21:01by Stan.
00:21:02Left and right to the body,
00:21:04came up top
00:21:04with a nice right-handed
00:21:05nicked off the head
00:21:06of the White Buffalo,
00:21:07but no real damage
00:21:09apparently.
00:21:10Stanton unrated
00:21:1116-2
00:21:12with eight knockouts.
00:21:13First shot
00:21:14at a title of any kind.
00:21:17Stanton's getting hit
00:21:18a lot, Bobby.
00:21:19I mean, you know,
00:21:19they're not big shots,
00:21:21but he's getting hit a lot
00:21:22right in the head.
00:21:22He's covering a fair amount
00:21:25in there for some
00:21:26of the stuff's glazing
00:21:27and glancing off the punches.
00:21:29Not really landing clean,
00:21:31but he's got to fire back.
00:21:32See, that's what he's got to do.
00:21:33He's got to immediately
00:21:34when he gets in here,
00:21:35dig that uppercut up.
00:21:35Throw a right hand behind him.
00:21:37One or two punches
00:21:37won't get it done
00:21:38on either side of the fence here.
00:21:40Right here.
00:21:41Yeah, both are looking
00:21:42to measure Stanton out
00:21:43with that left jab.
00:21:45Looking to follow it
00:21:46with the right.
00:21:47It's a much better round
00:21:50than the first Stanton.
00:21:52He's not winning the round yet,
00:21:54but he's pulling it closer.
00:21:56At least he's fighting.
00:21:57He's making a fight out of this.
00:21:59I saw some tapes
00:21:59as Stanton has a tendency
00:22:01to hit low.
00:22:02We'll see if that occurs
00:22:03here in this fight.
00:22:04Basically, a straight-up,
00:22:05straight-in fighter.
00:22:06Nothing too fancy.
00:22:07Not much side-to-side.
00:22:09Does have strength.
00:22:11I've both been aware
00:22:12in their trunks really low.
00:22:13It's the first time I've seen
00:22:14both fighters.
00:22:15You can see their belly buttons.
00:22:16I mean, they're low.
00:22:17Both trunks.
00:22:18Straight right hand
00:22:19just out of the reach
00:22:21of both his face
00:22:21by Stanton.
00:22:26Now listen to me, champion.
00:22:32When you're pulling out
00:22:33with this guy,
00:22:33you're getting your hands...
00:22:34You're putting your...
00:22:35You're dropping your hands
00:22:36underneath, okay?
00:22:37Now let me tell you something.
00:22:38You're overshooting
00:22:39your right hand, right?
00:22:40You're overshooting
00:22:41your right hand.
00:22:42Aim at his chest.
00:22:43Don't aim at it.
00:22:44Don't aim at the head.
00:22:45Let's get a towel
00:22:45under that water.
00:22:46Now listen to me.
00:22:49When you're missing
00:22:50with your right hand,
00:22:51give me a left uppercut.
00:22:52He's right there.
00:22:53All right?
00:22:54But you can't.
00:22:56Here you see the little slip.
00:22:57It's not really even a slip.
00:22:58It's almost like a pull
00:22:58to the ground.
00:22:59So he just kind of like
00:22:59hooks him behind the head
00:23:00and throws him to the ground.
00:23:02Flamination, slip-off, bounce, pull.
00:23:04You can't...
00:23:06Later, we see that Stanton
00:23:07dig into the...
00:23:08This is the series Bobby pointed out.
00:23:10Work to the body
00:23:11and then go over to the head,
00:23:12but then he let it go.
00:23:14He just, you know,
00:23:15it fomphered away
00:23:16into nothing.
00:23:18Again, in the corner,
00:23:20Sterling McPherson.
00:23:21I wish we could hear him all along.
00:23:22He's like Boudini.
00:23:22Just one machine gun
00:23:24funny thing after another.
00:23:25Would be amazing
00:23:27if Bothe's wearing earplugs.
00:23:30Round three.
00:23:31Stanton's best combination
00:23:32came a minute 35
00:23:34into round two.
00:23:35And though he was effective
00:23:36at times,
00:23:36it might have been...
00:23:37Might not have been enough
00:23:38to win the round for him.
00:23:42Franz Bothe over the top,
00:23:43missing.
00:23:44On the right.
00:23:45There's a combination by Bothe.
00:23:49On the attack board.
00:23:50More impressive now.
00:23:51Bothe shakes his head
00:23:52at Stanton,
00:23:53saying,
00:23:54you don't have it.
00:23:55My friend.
00:23:56You know, the shame in this
00:23:57is that Bothe gives the appearance
00:23:59of being lethargic
00:24:00and almost tired.
00:24:01It's only the third round.
00:24:02I'm sure he's not tired
00:24:03and out of shape.
00:24:04He gives the appearance of that.
00:24:06He comes in slow, laborsome.
00:24:07One or two big shots,
00:24:08holds inside.
00:24:09He's not an exciting fighter
00:24:11and he's not very busy.
00:24:12And that's going to be
00:24:13a very big problem for him
00:24:14as he steps up in class.
00:24:15And he does telegraph
00:24:16those right hands.
00:24:17He loads up.
00:24:20And you can see it coming
00:24:21from a long distance away.
00:24:25Well, there have always been
00:24:27those strange heavyweights
00:24:28that somehow...
00:24:29Oh, Stanton's in trouble.
00:24:30He goes down,
00:24:31blood streaking from his mouth.
00:24:34Well, he got a wicked combination
00:24:35to the head.
00:24:36He's got a good lead right there,
00:24:37I think a bust of his nose.
00:24:39It's something in the eye
00:24:40of Buster's nose.
00:24:40Oh.
00:24:41He is in dire trouble.
00:24:44He says he's all right
00:24:45to referee George Alonso,
00:24:47but he may be on his last legs.
00:24:50James Stanton down a minute five
00:24:52into round three.
00:24:54And this could be
00:24:55the beginning of the end.
00:24:56Well, a lot of time
00:24:57left in the zone.
00:24:58Now you see him moving too,
00:24:59Ferdy.
00:24:59Now he's moving like
00:25:00he was supposed to earlier.
00:25:01Albedee's not punching,
00:25:02but he is showing you
00:25:03some legwork.
00:25:04Out of urgency, I think.
00:25:07Botha now digging
00:25:08to the body
00:25:09with the right uppercut.
00:25:10Right, right.
00:25:10You see Botha
00:25:11winds up with that right hand
00:25:12so much that you can see
00:25:13it coming.
00:25:14Certainly you can block it.
00:25:15If one or two get through, sure,
00:25:16but you've got to block
00:25:17the majority of those
00:25:18are just so obvious.
00:25:23Botha continues to land
00:25:24to the body
00:25:26and to the head.
00:25:27It's a one-way fight here.
00:25:29It's just survival here.
00:25:31He's trying to make it
00:25:32to the belt,
00:25:33which isn't going to help
00:25:33anyway.
00:25:35Stanton's corner telling you
00:25:36to step around.
00:25:37Keep your hands up.
00:25:38Keep jabbing.
00:25:40Keep working.
00:25:40Keep moving.
00:25:43They told him
00:25:43it's a 15-round fight.
00:25:45Okay, I thought that
00:25:46went by the boards
00:25:48a few years ago.
00:25:49It's a 12-round fight
00:25:50as far as I know.
00:25:51I've never heard
00:25:51of a 15-round fight
00:25:52in modern times.
00:25:55Nice right hand there
00:25:56by both.
00:25:56He's starting to get home
00:25:57with it.
00:25:58Stanton's just doing
00:25:58one thing and that's cover.
00:25:59He's not upping up
00:26:00any punches back.
00:26:01Well, Stanton is now
00:26:02a human punching bag
00:26:04to use a boxing cliché.
00:26:06And Franz Botha
00:26:07talking to Stanton
00:26:08while he is issuing
00:26:10this relentless attack.
00:26:12Stanton's seen the recover.
00:26:13Beautiful, beautiful
00:26:14counter left hook.
00:26:15He just landed
00:26:16on the chin
00:26:17of Franz Botha,
00:26:18but certainly too little
00:26:18in this round
00:26:19and way too late.
00:26:22Oh, what a nice uppercut.
00:26:23Look at that, Stanton
00:26:24with a straight right.
00:26:27That set Botha
00:26:28sprawling back
00:26:29and Botha
00:26:30had something to say
00:26:30to him as the bell
00:26:31sounded.
00:26:31I am okay.
00:26:32Find something.
00:26:33Let's go.
00:26:33Just some tape.
00:26:37You better listen to me.
00:26:38Now, you took everything
00:26:39this fucking guy had.
00:26:40Everything he had.
00:26:42You understand what I'm saying?
00:26:43Now it's time for you
00:26:43to start turning the shots in.
00:26:45Take your time,
00:26:46keep stepping,
00:26:46turn the shots in.
00:26:47Stop moving to your left.
00:26:49Move to your right.
00:26:50You understand?
00:26:52I know.
00:26:52Keep right.
00:26:54Let's take a look
00:26:54at that knockdown.
00:26:56It happened with suddenness
00:26:57because the right hand
00:26:58bounced right off his nose
00:27:01and down he went.
00:27:02He looked like
00:27:02he was pawing at his eye,
00:27:04but it may well be
00:27:05that he broke his nose.
00:27:06He certainly got hit right there.
00:27:09At the end of the round,
00:27:10you'll see Stanton
00:27:10who had thrown no punch,
00:27:11bang, with a big left hook
00:27:12where he opened up
00:27:13and he starts firing back,
00:27:15digging to the body,
00:27:15whipping hooks over the top.
00:27:16He was trying.
00:27:19At the very end of the round,
00:27:20he comes right back.
00:27:22It's as if he's saying,
00:27:22well, look,
00:27:23you've been beating me
00:27:23all the time now.
00:27:24Let me get a couple shots
00:27:25in to remind you
00:27:26this ain't over.
00:27:27Time!
00:27:29Time!
00:27:29Time being called
00:27:30by George Alonso.
00:27:32Yeah.
00:27:32There's some tape dangling
00:27:33from the...
00:27:34From both gloves.
00:27:35From both...
00:27:36The gloves?
00:27:36Yeah, he should have
00:27:37fixed them before
00:27:37and he should have
00:27:38fixed them in that 60 seconds.
00:27:39Well, let's give the guy
00:27:40credit.
00:27:41While he may have not
00:27:42displayed much heart
00:27:43in the Oliver McCall fight,
00:27:45he showed it in round three
00:27:46toward the end.
00:27:48Stanton showing life.
00:27:49They still work on the gloves.
00:27:51But the knockdown 105 in
00:27:53really cost him,
00:27:54so a 10-8 round
00:27:55in both his favor,
00:27:57you would think.
00:27:59Well, you know,
00:27:59he had the...
00:28:00Yeah, he had the strings,
00:28:01the tape hanging early
00:28:03in the last round,
00:28:04but the ref never saw it
00:28:05and it would have given
00:28:06Stanton a much bigger rest
00:28:07at a time when he needed
00:28:08it more.
00:28:09Well, at least Stanton
00:28:11kind of put to rest
00:28:11that dog tag that he got
00:28:14by quitting on air
00:28:16against...
00:28:17Dog tag, very good.
00:28:19Well, he's a magic
00:28:21magician, no words.
00:28:23Round number four.
00:28:25Watch that elbow.
00:28:28Sterling, in his great way,
00:28:30he said,
00:28:30don't scare this guy
00:28:31or else he'll start
00:28:32barking in the first round.
00:28:33That's the greatest line
00:28:34of the weigh-in.
00:28:36Don't scare him.
00:28:36He'll start barking.
00:28:38Sterling always had
00:28:39a way with words.
00:28:40All the words in the world.
00:28:42Never win the fight,
00:28:42though, fellas.
00:28:43Through.
00:28:44It's James Stanton
00:28:46unloading
00:28:47downstairs and upstairs
00:28:48on Franz Botha.
00:28:50Botha, again,
00:28:50has words for Stanton,
00:28:52but he better start
00:28:53fighting back.
00:28:54See, Botha probably
00:28:54has the better chin
00:28:55of the two
00:28:56and is also
00:28:56the bigger puncher
00:28:57of the two,
00:28:58but he can clearly
00:28:59be outpointed
00:29:00and Stanton hustles
00:29:01and Botha hasn't
00:29:02trained properly.
00:29:05All right,
00:29:06now he's out
00:29:06so far ahead
00:29:07that he's got to do
00:29:07a whole lot of fighting
00:29:08to catch him.
00:29:09Oh, a straight right hand
00:29:11there by Botha
00:29:11to the head of Stanton.
00:29:12Puts his hands down
00:29:13and yells something
00:29:15at Botha.
00:29:15A war of words
00:29:16going on in the ring.
00:29:18Stop!
00:29:18Mike, hey,
00:29:20watch that heading
00:29:20behind the head.
00:29:22Hitting behind the head
00:29:23warning to Stanton.
00:29:24Oh.
00:29:25Wild swing
00:29:25and a miss
00:29:26on an uppercut
00:29:26by Botha.
00:29:27That could have ended it.
00:29:28That was a golf swing.
00:29:29Good.
00:29:30Wow, what was that?
00:29:31An uppercut is usually
00:29:32a counterpunch
00:29:33or a punch thrown
00:29:34on the inside.
00:29:35It's not a lead
00:29:36from that far out.
00:29:37Yeah, when you do it,
00:29:38you really look bad
00:29:39because it arcs
00:29:40off into space.
00:29:43Leaning left jab
00:29:44there by Stanton
00:29:45really bothering Botha
00:29:47and those punches
00:29:48are landing.
00:29:49Okay, well,
00:29:50this is clearly
00:29:50Stanton's best round.
00:29:51He's landed
00:29:51some good clean bows
00:29:52and Botha
00:29:53has missed
00:29:54with a few
00:29:54some arms he's hitting.
00:29:56Sure, he's landed a few
00:29:57but Stanton having a better
00:29:58straight right hand
00:29:59overhand right there
00:30:00by Stanton
00:30:01and Botha fighting
00:30:02as if he is not
00:30:03taking Stanton seriously
00:30:04and Stanton showing
00:30:05Botha no respect.
00:30:07Now you see he was
00:30:08backing up.
00:30:09Botha's on the retreat
00:30:09a little bit.
00:30:10Stanton just covering up
00:30:11and walking to him.
00:30:12Stanton double over
00:30:14from those body shots.
00:30:16Botha continues
00:30:17to unload
00:30:18to the head
00:30:19of Stanton.
00:30:20Stanton in a little bit
00:30:22of difficulty right here
00:30:23I would say.
00:30:25Let's go.
00:30:25To be facetious.
00:30:29Stanton with little
00:30:31or no defense.
00:30:35Well, Stanton had a shot
00:30:36there and it was
00:30:37a nice one.
00:30:38He fought back.
00:30:39He fought back
00:30:39nobly but
00:30:40he really got cream
00:30:41in the last 30 seconds.
00:30:43And then he comes back
00:30:43again at the end
00:30:44of the round
00:30:45and he's landing
00:30:45repeatedly.
00:30:46I'll tell you what
00:30:47this is as close
00:30:48a round as Stanton's
00:30:49had so far
00:30:50he might have even
00:30:50drew it to even
00:30:51with that last barrage.
00:30:54What are you taking
00:31:00unnecessary shots for?
00:31:02Give me some water, Jimmy.
00:31:03You're taking
00:31:04unnecessary shots
00:31:05for no reason.
00:31:06Give me a deep one.
00:31:07Get it up.
00:31:07Come on.
00:31:09You'll get a fucking guy
00:31:10dead in front of you
00:31:11and then you let him
00:31:12hit you back.
00:31:13Come on.
00:31:15Stick your jab press.
00:31:16Use your jab.
00:31:18Use your jab.
00:31:19You understand?
00:31:20When you hurt the guy
00:31:20use your jab.
00:31:22And look for shots.
00:31:23You hear what I'm saying
00:31:24to you?
00:31:25You hear me?
00:31:26Keep your hands up.
00:31:27All right.
00:31:27Come on.
00:31:28Give me some grease here.
00:31:29Come on.
00:31:30Give me some grease.
00:31:32All right.
00:31:33Here's where Stanton
00:31:34starts.
00:31:34Stanton off.
00:31:35Now that's a right hand.
00:31:36That's a classic.
00:31:37Way over and it hit him
00:31:38right on the jaw.
00:31:39And back he comes
00:31:40for more punishment.
00:31:41That was maybe,
00:31:43maybe the best.
00:31:44Later in the round,
00:31:44Stan trying to close it out
00:31:45again.
00:31:46You see it right and the left
00:31:47and then right up the middle
00:31:48and then over the top.
00:31:49Mixing his punches
00:31:50under, over, around,
00:31:51looping straight,
00:31:52getting through,
00:31:53being effective.
00:31:54I think he drew that round
00:31:55to an even round.
00:31:56I gave him an even round
00:31:57because between those
00:31:58two exchanges,
00:31:59he got butter.
00:31:59This fight reminds me
00:32:01of the old American
00:32:01Basketball Association.
00:32:03No defense.
00:32:05You would know.
00:32:06You would know.
00:32:07Stanton rocked Botha.
00:32:0950 seconds in,
00:32:10but Botha stepped back
00:32:12and started taunting
00:32:13James Stanton.
00:32:13Round four,
00:32:14a tough one to score.
00:32:15Stanton's best round.
00:32:16No, no, no, no, no, no.
00:32:17You know,
00:32:17every one of Botha's fights
00:32:18he looks like he's gonna die
00:32:19around four.
00:32:20It's the fifth round
00:32:21in the corner.
00:32:21He looks so tired.
00:32:22He just ran into
00:32:23a good left hook,
00:32:24did Botha.
00:32:25Stanton landed it very cleanly.
00:32:27Stanton fighting with
00:32:28a lot of confidence here.
00:32:31All of a sudden
00:32:31as Botha turns
00:32:32Stanton around
00:32:33and takes another step back
00:32:35and then throws a combo.
00:32:39Remember Bobby,
00:32:40when he was boxing,
00:32:40he was beating Oliver McCall.
00:32:42I mean,
00:32:42he was doing good
00:32:43with Oliver McCall.
00:32:44McCall came out
00:32:44very strong early
00:32:45then Stanton backed off
00:32:46and won a couple rounds
00:32:47boxing,
00:32:47but then just couldn't
00:32:48deal with the pressure
00:32:49and he succumbed
00:32:50to the power.
00:32:51His biggest win
00:32:52is a decision
00:32:52over Anthony Woodis.
00:32:54Six-round decision
00:32:55over John Kaiser
00:32:56on the Holmes-McCall
00:32:57undercard in 95.
00:33:00Biggest fight,
00:33:00of course,
00:33:01was against McCall.
00:33:02But he just stopped
00:33:03fighting after the sixth.
00:33:05He has not stopped here.
00:33:08See right there
00:33:09when he makes that move
00:33:10and cuts off that punch,
00:33:11he's got to fire up
00:33:12at the uppercuture.
00:33:13Botha's open
00:33:14on the inside for him.
00:33:15He's got to use it.
00:33:16One knockdown
00:33:17of the fight.
00:33:17Stanton to the canvas,
00:33:19a minute five
00:33:19into round three.
00:33:21We were talking
00:33:21a minute ago
00:33:22about how strange
00:33:22some heavyweights look,
00:33:24Tony Galando.
00:33:24Different kind of
00:33:25streaky,
00:33:26crazy-looking fighters.
00:33:27But Botha always
00:33:28looks exhausted.
00:33:29He always looks like
00:33:29discombobulated
00:33:30after about the fifth round,
00:33:31but he still stands here
00:33:32and fights.
00:33:37Shots here being blocked
00:33:38by Franz Botha
00:33:40slapping,
00:33:41throwing left
00:33:42inside by Stanton.
00:33:44She Botha digs
00:33:45little shots up
00:33:45on inside,
00:33:46tries to get some points
00:33:47with it,
00:33:47but they're not real effective.
00:33:48That punch is not real effective.
00:33:50There's no real power
00:33:50behind it.
00:33:51They're resorting
00:33:52to a big slap play.
00:33:56Stanton out of
00:33:56North Philadelphia,
00:33:57PA.
00:33:58Less than a minute
00:33:58to go on round five.
00:33:59There's a shot.
00:34:00A straight right hand,
00:34:01a right cross,
00:34:02sort of,
00:34:02by Stanton.
00:34:03Straight on the head.
00:34:05Another one
00:34:06by Stanton.
00:34:07Well, he's just
00:34:07teeing off, Rudy.
00:34:08Has there ever been
00:34:09a fighter that can't hit
00:34:10Botha with a right hand?
00:34:11It seems like he just
00:34:12doesn't know what to do
00:34:13with a right hand.
00:34:14Everybody hits him.
00:34:15Oh, my God.
00:34:18Franz Botha's
00:34:19the type of fighter
00:34:19who's very gutty,
00:34:20very durable,
00:34:22will come at you
00:34:22and dog you,
00:34:23be physical with you,
00:34:24tire you out that way.
00:34:25And he always looks tired,
00:34:26but he's always throwing,
00:34:27even when he's exhausting
00:34:28as old Michael Moore.
00:34:29He'll still fire
00:34:30and still be effective.
00:34:32They have also
00:34:33a straight right hand
00:34:34by Botha.
00:34:35And a good counter
00:34:35by Stanton.
00:34:38These guys are going
00:34:38at it pretty good now.
00:34:40I'll tell you what,
00:34:40right now,
00:34:41Stanton's winning this round.
00:34:43I think we can all
00:34:45stay pleasantly surprised
00:34:46at the action here
00:34:47in this call feature.
00:34:49That was blocked by Botha,
00:34:50but here comes Stanton
00:34:51following up
00:34:53with a barrage.
00:34:55Stanton's round.
00:34:56Definitely so.
00:35:00Come on, man.
00:35:01You're giving this guy
00:35:01all the encouragement
00:35:02in the world,
00:35:03Francois.
00:35:03You're not tired,
00:35:04are you?
00:35:05Huh?
00:35:06Come on.
00:35:07Take a deep breath.
00:35:08Come on.
00:35:09You're looking like
00:35:10a goddamn amateur out there.
00:35:12Did you get the mouthpiece?
00:35:14Come on.
00:35:14Deep breath.
00:35:15You're letting this guy
00:35:16hit you with shots.
00:35:17Why are you doing that,
00:35:18champ?
00:35:18Come on.
00:35:21Come on, champ.
00:35:22Talk to me.
00:35:23You better do your job.
00:35:25Come on.
00:35:25How you doing, baby?
00:35:26You're going to have
00:35:27him out whenever
00:35:27you want to.
00:35:27Deep breath.
00:35:28Listen to me, man.
00:35:29We need Dr. Manners
00:35:29right there for you
00:35:30to bang on.
00:35:31You understand what I'm saying?
00:35:32You're looking to come up
00:35:33on the guy.
00:35:34Get your jab working.
00:35:35You got a good damn jab,
00:35:36you're going to use it,
00:35:38or you're going to stand
00:35:38right there
00:35:39and let him walk in through you.
00:35:40Measure out for him
00:35:40right here in that floor.
00:35:41All night long.
00:35:43Stand with your jab.
00:35:44Get it working.
00:35:47Great green spike.
00:35:49Let's go.
00:35:50Let's go.
00:35:53That's what you call
00:35:54a scream-off
00:35:55between Sterling McPherson
00:35:57and Freddie Jenkins
00:35:58in their respective corners.
00:35:59Again, the tape problem
00:36:01here in Stanton's corner.
00:36:02Interestingly enough,
00:36:03both corners are saying
00:36:04that the fighters use your jab
00:36:05before you go to the right end.
00:36:06It's gone at all.
00:36:07Find them with your jab,
00:36:08then go to the right end.
00:36:08Both corners are saying that
00:36:09and neither guy
00:36:10is japping at all.
00:36:11And Sterling is right
00:36:13because he's making Stanton
00:36:14fight bravely.
00:36:16Yeah, it's a possibility
00:36:17that the serious humidity
00:36:19in this area
00:36:19is just not allowing
00:36:20that tape to stick,
00:36:21but both of them
00:36:22seem to have better tape.
00:36:23Good rounds,
00:36:24four and five by Stanton
00:36:25as we head into round six,
00:36:27scheduled for 12.
00:36:28And they both come out
00:36:29using the jabs.
00:36:30Yeah.
00:36:30Now, well,
00:36:31they've been screamed at enough.
00:36:33They should at least try it.
00:36:35The crowd here
00:36:36cheering for the underdog.
00:36:38Good right uppercut
00:36:39by Stanton.
00:36:39See, there you saw
00:36:40Stanton rock
00:36:40with the right hand,
00:36:41block it,
00:36:41and then take that right uppercut
00:36:42like I spoke about earlier.
00:36:44It was effective.
00:36:44It was right there,
00:36:45bang, right on Botha's chin.
00:36:47That's what he needs to do.
00:36:48And then follow with the left hook.
00:36:51You know, Bobby,
00:36:51what we talk about so much
00:36:52in judging,
00:36:54effective punching,
00:36:55you know,
00:36:55as you pointed out.
00:36:56Stanton doubling up
00:36:57and then just running away
00:36:59with that overhand right
00:37:01that connected
00:37:02to the jaw of Botha.
00:37:05To finish the statement,
00:37:06Bobby, you're pointing out
00:37:07he's punching,
00:37:08but not effectively Botha.
00:37:09I mean,
00:37:09you see him punch,
00:37:11but he's not landing that much.
00:37:12No, he's just throwing
00:37:13a punch out there.
00:37:13He's kind of shoveling them
00:37:14almost,
00:37:14just pushing them out there
00:37:15with his body.
00:37:16And there you saw
00:37:17a bright-handed attempt
00:37:18to the body.
00:37:19Raising shot.
00:37:20Not effective.
00:37:21Well, not exactly
00:37:22what you'd call
00:37:23a finesse-fest
00:37:24here in Coconut Grove,
00:37:26but the fans are into it.
00:37:27They want to see an upset here.
00:37:30And Stanton comes out
00:37:30with a straight right
00:37:31to the head.
00:37:32And Franz Botha
00:37:33showing the good chin again.
00:37:35He both has a good chin.
00:37:36And Stanton's not
00:37:36a one-punch knockout artist.
00:37:38He's probably not going
00:37:39to get both out of there
00:37:40with any one shot.
00:37:41He needs to be working
00:37:42for a cumulative type effect.
00:37:44Well, the eight knockouts
00:37:45and his 16 wins
00:37:46for Stanton
00:37:46and the goal,
00:37:48the goal trunks.
00:37:51The fashionable goal trunks.
00:37:56Stanton just keeps punching,
00:37:58a little holding and hitting,
00:38:00and referee George Alonso
00:38:01gets in there.
00:38:04Now look at Stanton
00:38:05taunting both of them.
00:38:06He'd better be careful.
00:38:08Not wise,
00:38:09as he nearly goes
00:38:10right through the ropes.
00:38:11Derriere first.
00:38:13There goes something
00:38:14that was not the mouthpiece,
00:38:15it was just some tape
00:38:16or something.
00:38:16Piece of tape.
00:38:17That's all.
00:38:17That bad tape
00:38:18we were talking about.
00:38:19Right.
00:38:20Well, I better go
00:38:21to the other corner
00:38:22and borrow some tape
00:38:23because that's inexcusable.
00:38:25See, now in the later rounds
00:38:25here while Stanton's on the ropes
00:38:27and is back the ropes,
00:38:28he is not just taking a punch.
00:38:29He's firing back on the inside.
00:38:31He's neutralizing
00:38:31the onslaught of both
00:38:33a little better.
00:38:34Now both are looking
00:38:35to dig into the rip,
00:38:36into the stride
00:38:36with the uppercut.
00:38:37Oh, brother.
00:38:38Walked into a big counter
00:38:39left hook.
00:38:40Now that counts points.
00:38:42That counts points.
00:38:43I know that hurt.
00:38:43Oh, that.
00:38:44Oh, boy.
00:38:45Walked right into it.
00:38:46Oh, boy.
00:38:53Oh, boy.
00:38:58Both are's cornered telling him,
00:39:02keep your hands up.
00:39:03Keep on fighting.
00:39:06You're trying to give this fight away.
00:39:08Well, I'll tell you what,
00:39:09he's opened the door
00:39:10And look what's coming in.
00:39:11Punches in bunches.
00:39:13James Stanton gaining more confidence.
00:39:18Listen to me.
00:39:19Who's the chief seconder here?
00:39:20Get a goddamn fight away.
00:39:23All right.
00:39:24All right.
00:39:25You're the better fighter here, champion.
00:39:27You're the goddamn boss.
00:39:28The guy still wants to quit.
00:39:30This guy wants to quit.
00:39:31You hear what I'm saying here?
00:39:33All right.
00:39:33Sit up.
00:39:34Sit up.
00:39:35Say Mario, man.
00:39:36Come on.
00:39:37All right.
00:39:37Come on.
00:39:37Come on.
00:39:38Give me a swipe, Mario.
00:39:39Come on.
00:39:40Give me some water.
00:39:42Give me some water.
00:39:43Take a deep breath, champion.
00:39:44We got time.
00:39:45Take a deep breath.
00:39:46Give me some more water.
00:39:48All right?
00:39:51Hey, champion.
00:39:52Every time this guy looks like he wants to quit.
00:39:54Let's take a look at how both of them walked into a smashing left hand.
00:40:00Hook right in there.
00:40:01I mean, right on the button.
00:40:02If that guy could punch, he would be gone.
00:40:04Here's another look at it.
00:40:05It's an unusual counter.
00:40:06Usually you counter a right with a right.
00:40:07Here you see both of them throw a right hand.
00:40:09Coming up.
00:40:09And Stanton will counter with a hook right over top of it.
00:40:12That's a counter I've used many times.
00:40:13But I'll tell you what, it's an awkward one.
00:40:15You've got to be on the money.
00:40:17You wonder if both of his fallen victim to the dreaded letdown factor going up against
00:40:21against a lesser-known fighter after going up against a Michael Moore for the IBF title.
00:40:27Mentally not into it here.
00:40:30Well, he better get going.
00:40:31And Sterling McPherson again giving him an earful.
00:40:33And Stanton's got to be careful.
00:40:35Oh, he just landed with a straight right hand.
00:40:36Stanton's charging himself up, dropping his hands, taunting Botha, and landing.
00:40:42And he's a better athlete.
00:40:43He's an athlete, this guy.
00:40:45So, I mean, he has a chance if his heart holds up.
00:40:47And right now it's holding up good.
00:40:48He's got more movement, obviously, than the stationary Franz Botha.
00:40:52And Stanton taking advantage.
00:40:56He's not trying to quit as the Botha corner feels.
00:41:02Well, they're just trying to encourage our fighter.
00:41:04But, I mean, you know, this guy's pulling his fight up.
00:41:07All of a sudden, we're creeping into a close fight.
00:41:09I have it 58-56 now.
00:41:11I'm near a two-point margin.
00:41:12That knockdown could loom very big for Botha.
00:41:15Here comes Botha.
00:41:16Botha with combinations.
00:41:17See, this is what Stanton was doing earlier.
00:41:19He just did nothing when Botha drew punches as opposed to firing.
00:41:22One or two punches in the middle of that flurry stops both in his tracks.
00:41:27He puts himself on pause from time to time.
00:41:30And he takes a lot of punishment from Franz Botha.
00:41:34Oh, Wilde.
00:41:35Swing of the best with a left hook by Stanton.
00:41:38And Botha counters with a straight right to the head of Stanton.
00:41:41When you miss those big bombs, Steve, you get equally tired
00:41:44because you've got to use your energy to stop the punch, too,
00:41:46as opposed to the opponent who just absorbs it.
00:41:48But how about this?
00:41:49Would you have thought Stanton would offer up more offense
00:41:53than Michael Moore in front of Franz Botha?
00:41:56Well, you know, that's a hit and miss.
00:41:58That's a trick question.
00:41:59Yeah.
00:42:02Well, I'll tell you what.
00:42:03He keeps coming on.
00:42:04He took all that shellacking.
00:42:05He blew the round by doing it, but he's still punching.
00:42:08And I have it exactly the same, Bobby.
00:42:0958-56.
00:42:11I gave an even round, and I gave a 10-8 round.
00:42:15Final minute of the seventh round, scheduled for 12.
00:42:19You know, that counter hook for Stanton's been working.
00:42:21Every time Botha drops his right hand,
00:42:23he gets real lazy when he drops it down to his belt line.
00:42:26Stanton lands the hook but never follows with a right hand.
00:42:28Then maybe another hook.
00:42:30Look under the right eye of Stanton.
00:42:31Big welt there.
00:42:32His eye seems to be okay, though.
00:42:37It's not closing.
00:42:39Well, he's just winging those right hooks.
00:42:41That was a glancing blow, both able to elude it.
00:42:46He's taking the round off.
00:42:48Stanton has taken the round off,
00:42:50and it's cost him around just when he was creeping up.
00:42:53Straight right there by Stanton.
00:42:55Almost like a flicking half a jab.
00:42:56Yeah, like a shot by jab.
00:42:57Combination to the head by the other.
00:42:59He turns southpaw.
00:43:00Stanton turns southpaw for a left hook, a straight.
00:43:02Assuming a right hook, a straight left hand
00:43:04instead of ripping up a cut from the other side.
00:43:07Causing some confusion momentarily for both of them.
00:43:19Turn.
00:43:21Hold your hand back.
00:43:23Lean back.
00:43:24Reach down to the sole and know that you've been this far before, okay?
00:43:27You was the champ.
00:43:28You understand what I'm saying?
00:43:29You are the champ, okay?
00:43:30All I want you to do is keep your hands up.
00:43:32You understand what I'm saying?
00:43:33Jab right hand hook off your hands up, okay?
00:43:36You understand what I'm saying?
00:43:37And step around him and get him an angle
00:43:38instead of being straight in front of him.
00:43:44Here you see Stanton on the ropes.
00:43:47He's just not firing back as he had been doing in the mid rounds.
00:43:50When in early rounds, this is what he did,
00:43:51and now again in the late rounds, he's doing it again.
00:43:53This is costing him big portions of the round.
00:43:56But look at the end of the round, how he, how, what the comeback is.
00:43:59See, he mounts a comeback, and he looks great doing it,
00:44:01but it's just not enough.
00:44:03He's been powdered for two minutes and so on,
00:44:05and now he comes back with it.
00:44:06Too late.
00:44:06He lost his round.
00:44:07All right, all right?
00:44:11Out hustle this bastard.
00:44:14Out hustle it.
00:44:15It is round number eight.
00:44:18I mean, what?
00:44:20And Stanton comes right out with the left shotgun jab
00:44:23to the face of both of them.
00:44:25Don't do that again.
00:44:26No more, all right?
00:44:27Enough warnings.
00:44:28No more.
00:44:29No more what?
00:44:30What did he do?
00:44:31I think he put his hands on the back of Stanton's neck
00:44:34and shoved him.
00:44:34That's got to be frustration by Franche,
00:44:38both looking to attempt any tactic here.
00:44:44Certainly getting more than he bargained for.
00:44:47As much as he knows how much his stock went up
00:44:48and a loss to Moore,
00:44:50if this fight goes the distance
00:44:51and becomes even relatively close,
00:44:53he knows his stock will go down even with a win.
00:44:55He told us yesterday he has to win and look good.
00:44:58Watch out for that.
00:44:59Not the case.
00:45:01After the point that he dropped him down,
00:45:02he was doing all right.
00:45:03And when he knocked him down,
00:45:04you didn't think he was going to get up.
00:45:05And he gets up and has a good fight.
00:45:06You've got to give Stanton credit.
00:45:08Yes.
00:45:09Nomination to the head there by Botha.
00:45:12Let's see what Stanton does here in round eight
00:45:13to late in round seven.
00:45:16Stanton has done much to continue his streak
00:45:18of three straight winning rounds.
00:45:21Oh.
00:45:22That is a push.
00:45:23Yeah, but that was a nice right hand
00:45:25before it that caved him in.
00:45:26That's a nice right hand that caved him in
00:45:29and he fell to his body.
00:45:31It's not a knockdown.
00:45:32It's not a knockdown.
00:45:33I missed the right hand when you see it.
00:45:35It's a nice one.
00:45:36Let's go.
00:45:37Well, no knockdown, says George Alonso.
00:45:40He waves it off.
00:45:41Stanton's going to watch him
00:45:42to throw the overhand right jab
00:45:45and then double jab.
00:45:48He's not throwing any punches, Steve.
00:45:49That's the problem.
00:45:50When he throws, he's pretty effective.
00:45:51But he's not throwing.
00:45:53He goes into the shell and does nothing.
00:45:55He loses the round.
00:45:56Botha all over Stanton.
00:45:59And back comes Stanton with a left hook.
00:46:01See what I mean?
00:46:02One punch and both the stops.
00:46:03He's got to throw a couple in between.
00:46:05Offset the flurry.
00:46:08Stanton's got to keep his hands up more like that.
00:46:11Guard against those shots by both.
00:46:13I see his hands are down there.
00:46:16Walk out of there.
00:46:17Your feet, your feet.
00:46:18The eye on Stanton is not getting any better.
00:46:22Under a minute in round eight.
00:46:24It's under the right eye of Stanton.
00:46:28Botha approaching this in workmanlike fashion.
00:46:30He just doesn't quit.
00:46:31Whether he hits gloves, top of head, or elbows,
00:46:33he's still punching on.
00:46:35So that's points being built up.
00:46:36Here's where Stanton told us he felt
00:46:38that the white buffalo runs out of gas
00:46:40later in the fights.
00:46:41But he might.
00:46:42He might be exhausted,
00:46:43but he still has the heavy hands.
00:46:44It appears as if Stanton's the one running out of gas.
00:46:46He's not offering up any offense.
00:46:47He looks exhausted.
00:46:51He's trying to get that second win.
00:46:52Botha's landing with those shots.
00:46:55Combinations to the head.
00:46:56Stanton.
00:47:00Just sort of standing there and taking it.
00:47:03Taking an awful lot of beating.
00:47:05Awful lot of punches.
00:47:06None of the punches thrown now are crisp by either fighter.
00:47:08Botha's obviously got more on his,
00:47:10but they're not landing sharply.
00:47:13He just fired them in.
00:47:15But botha just having his way.
00:47:18You let them do that to you.
00:47:20You let them do that to you.
00:47:21You let them walk right to you.
00:47:22You let them walk right to you and beat on you.
00:47:24You don't stand up.
00:47:25You let them walk right to you and beat on you.
00:47:26Get your hands down.
00:47:28Kick your hands down.
00:47:28Don't let them walk in there like that.
00:47:30He might do it in front of you.
00:47:31You've been tired of this, bro.
00:47:32Come on.
00:47:33Come on.
00:47:34Don't do it like a champion, baby.
00:47:38We can take him home and throw it off you.
00:47:40We're up to me.
00:47:40We're up to me.
00:47:41I'm okay.
00:47:41All right.
00:47:42I'm looking at me, man.
00:47:43You want to fire your punches?
00:47:44You got to fight with him when he in there.
00:47:46Let's take a look at that slip.
00:47:47Let's see if we can see that right hand.
00:47:51There we go.
00:47:52See by me?
00:47:52That right hand.
00:47:53And now look at him slip along his body.
00:47:55He just kind of caved into him.
00:47:57Yeah, the right hand was pretty good, Ferdy.
00:47:58He looked like he was just looking to dive into him.
00:48:00You call it.
00:48:01You call it.
00:48:01Well, you can see the right hand.
00:48:02It's right on the temple.
00:48:04And he kind of goes to, you know what happened?
00:48:05He goes to fall into both and let both hold him up.
00:48:08And both are side-stepping through by the side.
00:48:10You're right, Ferdy.
00:48:11After seeing that on the right foot, that easily could have been ruled a knockdown.
00:48:14I mean, it was a heck of a good shot.
00:48:16And then he was slid along his body to hold himself up and cook.
00:48:21Round nine, round eight, a good one for Botha as he has standing on the ropes for much of it.
00:48:27Botha's back in the aggressive posture.
00:48:29He's pressing the fight now.
00:48:30But Stanton doesn't look like he has that much left in his legs.
00:48:33No real strength.
00:48:34Botha getting a second hand.
00:48:35Looks ready to go.
00:48:37Just when you think Botha's tired, that's what he looks like in every one of his fights.
00:48:41Then he keeps coming, punching, punching, punching.
00:48:43And he works himself out of being tired.
00:48:46I mean, that's discouraging if you're in that point.
00:48:48Botha continues to administer punishment on the head and body of Stanton.
00:48:54Oh, there's a straight right to the head by Botha.
00:48:57Right between the gloves of Stanton.
00:49:00I don't understand what Stanton's doing.
00:49:01He's got to put something up there.
00:49:03Because while he was putting it up, Botha wasn't fighting.
00:49:06There's some shot like that.
00:49:07Something.
00:49:08Good counter left hook, but he leaves it alone.
00:49:09He just leaves it out there.
00:49:10If he catch him at one, throw two, why not?
00:49:13There's another left hook, but he doesn't follow it up again.
00:49:15It's another one at a time, Steve.
00:49:17This is not going to win the fight for him.
00:49:18He's not going to do a one-shot.
00:49:20He's not going to knock both of them.
00:49:21He's not that kind of punching.
00:49:22I don't think he's got enough to throw two at the same time.
00:49:25I think he's got right at that point of exhaustion where he throws one punch as good as he's going to do.
00:49:30Stanton just holding on now to Botha.
00:49:32He is totally fatigued.
00:49:34Not quite sure how much he has left.
00:49:40Let's see if Botha can finish him off.
00:49:43There's a combination of the head.
00:49:44Straight right did the most damage by Botha.
00:49:48Stanton keeps his arms down.
00:49:49Can't even put his hands up.
00:49:52Stanton is exhausted now.
00:49:53This is just a matter of time.
00:49:59Well, but let us say in his defense,
00:50:02he's there fighting for what he's got.
00:50:04He's taking a nice shellac and I don't hear any barking.
00:50:06I mean, he hasn't stopped fighting yet.
00:50:08So I think he's vindicated himself from that dog time.
00:50:12And coming off a layoff of better than a year.
00:50:16Come on, come on.
00:50:17Less than a minute remaining in round nine.
00:50:21Botha continues to
00:50:23unleash the assault.
00:50:27Botha's just doing what he has to.
00:50:28He's keeping the pressure on.
00:50:30He's not letting Stan sit there and wind up on him.
00:50:32And every once in a while,
00:50:33the hook, the left hook comes.
00:50:34It just comes.
00:50:35It's a token left hook.
00:50:36He will just swing it out there.
00:50:37And most of the time,
00:50:39it's landed on Botha's chin.
00:50:41I think Stan's just looking for a lucky punch here.
00:50:44He just puts his head down and wings.
00:50:46I don't think he's got anything left.
00:50:47Come on, guys.
00:50:48I think everything is out of his bag.
00:50:50He's got nothing to reach into.
00:50:51Yeah.
00:50:53He's just standing there taking the punch.
00:50:55And those body shots by Botha throughout,
00:50:57taking the legs out of Stan.
00:51:00That's part of it.
00:51:00I got it.
00:51:01I got it.
00:51:01Let's go.
00:51:02The cumulative effect by Botha.
00:51:06Beautiful right here.
00:51:08By Botha.
00:51:08Right on the jaw of Stan.
00:51:11Stan, pretty good chin.
00:51:12And that's it for round nine.
00:51:16Coming up next,
00:51:18the WBA middleweight championship.
00:51:20Backstage we go into the dressing room
00:51:22as we take a look at the belt.
00:51:23The champion, William Joppy,
00:51:24hoping to make his second successful title defense
00:51:27later tonight
00:51:27against number one contender,
00:51:29Peter Bonazio of Brazil.
00:51:31Some consider Joppy the class at 160.
00:51:36We'll see what he does tonight.
00:51:37A little bit later.
00:51:38Come on over there.
00:51:39All you're going to let this guy walk right in.
00:51:42He's just walking right through you, Jay.
00:51:43You've been fighting all your goddamn life in the street.
00:51:46He's walking right in until you're too busy trying to survive
00:51:48instead of trying to punch.
00:51:50And the guy right there with you.
00:51:51Basic punches, man.
00:51:53When you're tired, deep breath.
00:51:54Two rounds are knocking on, Jay.
00:51:55Two rounds.
00:51:56You can't stand?
00:51:57Take it easy.
00:52:00Take it easy.
00:52:01Now listen to me, champion.
00:52:02Listen to me.
00:52:03Listen to me.
00:52:04Second time.
00:52:05Throw your jab.
00:52:06When you throw your right hand,
00:52:07left uppercut.
00:52:09Left uppercut, right hand.
00:52:11Second time.
00:52:11Come on.
00:52:14Well, you heard the instructions
00:52:16from Sterling McPherson.
00:52:17Clear, Isabel.
00:52:19Left uppercut, right hand.
00:52:20Let's see if both the duds at the pace.
00:52:23Slowing considerably, especially for Stanton
00:52:25as we enter round 10.
00:52:27The last rounds particularly have been ugly to look at
00:52:31because it's a one-way beating.
00:52:33And with Stanton hardly having anything left in his bag
00:52:37to come up with any punches more than one solitary punch
00:52:39at a time, ain't gonna do it.
00:52:43Both out of Pretoria, South Africa.
00:52:45Makes his home in Newport Beach, California.
00:52:49If we stay at the level pace that we're at now,
00:52:52let's just say for the sake of argument
00:52:53that both of the wins the next couple of rounds,
00:52:55like he has the past couple,
00:52:57does his stock really go up
00:52:58or does it shade back a little bit?
00:53:02I don't know.
00:53:03Very questionable right now after this performance.
00:53:08A win is a win, but it's not a big win.
00:53:10No.
00:53:10And that's what he wanted.
00:53:12He'll probably be the first to admit.
00:53:14Now he's all over Stanton, but he cannot put this guy away.
00:53:22Stanton's coming up pretty good, and he's tired.
00:53:24He's holding on.
00:53:25His face of both is not exactly fresh,
00:53:27but I think it's just a matter of time.
00:53:29As he just chases Stanton into the neutral corner
00:53:33with nothing really landing effectively there.
00:53:37But Stanton in a clinch system,
00:53:39man, I wish you could punch so I could get out of here.
00:53:42Just knock me out, let me leave.
00:53:43In between corners,
00:53:53while we were at both the corners,
00:53:55Stanton's corner told him to wake up.
00:53:57You're falling asleep.
00:53:59Keep jabbing.
00:53:59Keep throwing the right hook.
00:54:01I think it's just a matter of being spent, Steve.
00:54:03I think he's tired.
00:54:04I think that's about all he has left.
00:54:06Yeah, he's listening.
00:54:08He's trying to take it in earnest,
00:54:09but he just can't do it.
00:54:12There's nothing left.
00:54:13I mean, you can't ask your athlete to do something
00:54:14when there's nothing left in the body.
00:54:18His legs are getting a little wobbly here.
00:54:20They're a little bit weak.
00:54:21I think it's really soon before this fight
00:54:24is going to be holding.
00:54:24Stanton down once early in the fight.
00:54:27He went down a second time,
00:54:29but it was not ruled a knockdown.
00:54:30There's a left hook right on the side of the face
00:54:33by both of them.
00:54:34Both of them continues to unload.
00:54:36That, by the way,
00:54:37only the second time Stanton was down
00:54:39in this his 19th fight.
00:54:41Both himself might be just too tired
00:54:42of throwing enough punches
00:54:43to have the referee stop it.
00:54:44Well, he's thrown an awful lot, though, Bobby.
00:54:46He is.
00:54:47I mean, you know,
00:54:48he is the only one
00:54:49that's thrown punches
00:54:50in the last two rounds.
00:54:51I mean, that's continuous.
00:54:53That's a lot of punches.
00:54:55He's just lining Stanton up.
00:54:56Stanton able to duck away from that shot.
00:55:00I mean, I guess
00:55:01neither one of these guys
00:55:02who's straight right hand
00:55:03and down goes Stanton
00:55:04off the ropes.
00:55:06What a ferocious
00:55:07straight right hand
00:55:08by Franz Botham.
00:55:10That's as much a combination
00:55:11of fatigue
00:55:12with a good shot
00:55:13as anything.
00:55:13Exactly.
00:55:14Nine.
00:55:1530.
00:55:16That's it.
00:55:17The towel goes in.
00:55:18It was stopped
00:55:18by George Alonzo anyway.
00:55:20The count had reached nine
00:55:21just before the bell.
00:55:22Alonzo said enough
00:55:23and Freddie Jenkins
00:55:25tossed in the towel
00:55:26from the corner.
00:55:27That's about every kind of way
00:55:28you can surrender.
00:55:29There is.
00:55:30You counted at ten.
00:55:31Passed the bell
00:55:32and that was it.
00:55:33Stopped it
00:55:33and threw in the towel.
00:55:37Stopped it.
00:55:37So it ends here
00:55:39in round number ten.
00:55:40Franz Botham
00:55:41able to come back
00:55:42six months after his loss
00:55:43to Michael Mora.
00:55:45Lose to 37-1
00:55:46with 22 knockouts.
00:55:48Winning something called
00:55:50the North American
00:55:50Heavyweight title.
00:55:52A meaningless title.
00:55:53And James Stanton
00:55:57showing some guts
00:55:58along the way.
00:56:00Just ran out of gas.
00:56:01Utterly exhausted
00:56:01in the last few rounds.
00:56:03Had nothing left.
00:56:05No, those were some
00:56:05very, very weak legs.
00:56:06There was no offer
00:56:07of offense whatsoever.
00:56:09He had nothing left
00:56:10and I think it was just
00:56:10a matter of resignation
00:56:12as it was the punch.
00:56:13He drops to 16 and to 3.
00:56:16There's both his lovely
00:56:18wife Elsa.
00:56:20IBF rules state
00:56:21that if a top five fighter
00:56:23beats a top 15 fighter
00:56:24he can be considered
00:56:25for number one.
00:56:26Stanton was unrated.
00:56:28We'll see what happens
00:56:29to both in terms
00:56:30of the rating system.
00:56:32He came in number four
00:56:33IVF.
00:56:34Number two WBA.
00:56:35The White Buffalo prevailing
00:56:41but certainly probably
00:56:43would have liked to have seen
00:56:45better action on his part.
00:56:46You see the end of the fight.
00:56:47It's real simple.
00:56:48He's just exhausted.
00:56:49He's tired.
00:56:49He goes back to the corner.
00:56:50Both hits him with a nice right hand
00:56:52and he's done.
00:56:53I think it's fatigue as much
00:56:54as the right hand.
00:56:55He'd absorb better right hands
00:56:56than that throughout the night.
00:56:57He was tired and he was done.
00:56:59He had another look at it.
00:57:04Both are just working away
00:57:05as he always does
00:57:06coming through
00:57:06and you'll see
00:57:07he always throws that right hand.
00:57:09It's kind of a boom.
00:57:10It's a quick little
00:57:11turns it over nice
00:57:12gets his weight behind him
00:57:13and after all he weighs
00:57:14230 pounds
00:57:15it was clean.
00:57:17I don't even think
00:57:18Stanton was looking
00:57:18and just caught him.
00:57:22Last replay
00:57:23for this particular punch.
00:57:24Not a big deal.
00:57:26Not a big punch
00:57:27but fatigue
00:57:28combination of that
00:57:29good timing.
00:57:30Shot is solid.
00:57:31You see it's a solid shot
00:57:32not glancing whatsoever.
00:57:34And Stanton's finished.
00:57:35It's all of the night.
00:57:37The end of round 10
00:57:39all over for James Carl Stanton
00:57:41out of North Philadelphia.
00:57:44And Franz Botha.
00:57:46He wants the winner
00:57:48of Holyfield Tyson too.
00:57:49Well that remains to be seen.
00:57:51Who doesn't?
00:57:52Absolutely.
00:57:53Tell him you want
00:57:54to go down the stairs.
00:57:55How about a rematch
00:57:55with Michael Moore
00:57:56but some say Moore
00:57:58might fight Tyson next
00:58:00no matter what
00:58:00Tyson does with Holyfield.
00:58:02Botha says he's had offers
00:58:04to fight WBC heavyweight
00:58:05champ Lennox Lewis
00:58:06but he's scheduled
00:58:07to fight Henry Akinwande
00:58:08the former WBO champ
00:58:10who had to vacate in July.
00:58:12Alright we're set

01:00:10we're not along
01:00:11we're alongside
01:00:12not in the ring

01:00:16instead of which
01:00:17Don King is standing next to you
01:00:19great of all time
01:00:21you know
01:00:21can't take it away
01:00:22from Mr. Don King
01:00:22he's the best
01:00:23and he'll save the best
01:00:24well
01:00:24did you expect this
01:00:25tougher night
01:00:26with a guy that
01:00:27frankly didn't look like
01:00:29he was going to give you
01:00:29that much trouble
01:00:30well I knew
01:00:31the first time I hit him
01:00:32that you know
01:00:32I can take him out anytime
01:00:33but I wanted to get rounds
01:00:35because I've been very inactive
01:00:36and I want to get active
01:00:37so I knew I could get him
01:00:39did you think
01:00:40once he went down

01:03:08back here with
01:03:09Bobby Chez
01:03:09Bobby let's just
01:03:10quickly run down
01:03:11the scorecards
01:03:12for some reason
01:03:12they don't put the names
01:03:13of the judges on here
01:03:14but we'll give you
01:03:15the scores anyway
01:03:16one judge had it
01:03:17both at 88
01:03:18Stanton 82 through 9
01:03:2089-80 for both
01:03:22pretty convincing
01:03:23through 9
01:03:24and a third judge
01:03:25had it 90-81
01:03:27for both after 9
01:03:29I think I had it
01:03:3188-83 at the time
01:03:32give or take
01:03:32that's about right
01:03:33but a couple of guys
01:03:34I thought were a little
01:03:34off base
01:03:35all right
01:03:36what's next
01:03:36for the white buffalo
01:03:37well the white buffalo
01:03:38is still in the thick
01:03:39of things
01:03:39he's rated in the top
01:03:40five in the world
01:03:40he's looking for
01:03:41a heavyweight title shot
01:03:42I believe he'll get one
01:03:43if the people want it
01:03:44certainly he'll get it
01:03:45if he wants it
01:03:46and Don King wants it
01:03:47you know they'll get it
01:03:48all right
01:03:48you got to remember
01:03:49he was fighting
01:03:49an unrated
01:03:50unheralded fighter
01:03:52here tonight
01:03:52I expected a little more
01:03:54I mean Stanton was
01:03:55surprisingly game
01:03:56and courageous
01:03:57I expected a little more
01:03:58out of both
01:03:58game or not
01:03:59he didn't have the tools
01:04:00he didn't belong in the ring
01:04:01of the top five heavyweight
01:04:02to go that far
01:04:03I don't believe
01:04:04France both
01:04:05the stock went up
01:04:05as it went up
01:04:06in a loss
01:04:07it just went down
01:04:07in a win
01:04:08in my humble estimation
01:04:09I'm usually not wrong
01:04:11but you're always humble
01:04:12he's still in the hunt
01:04:14though
01:04:14for a shot
01:04:15he's still in the hunt
01:04:16and so are a lot of fighters
01:04:17but again
01:04:19it's one of those things
01:04:20where he's in the right place
01:04:21at the right time
01:04:21he's had the right credentials
01:04:22the last time he was champion
01:04:25that goes on forever and ever
01:04:27you have a belt
01:04:28you've had a belt
01:04:28you're always a champion
01:04:29in somebody's mind
01:04:30he gives you a right
01:04:31to fight
