00:00to Shreveport Louisiana founded on the banks of the Red River in 1839 the city was named for
00:06captain Henry Miller Shreve who cleared the river waters of a giant log jam and he was deemed a hero
00:12this particular building the Shreveport municipal memorial auditorium is dedicated to the heroes
00:17of world war one it also played a very very prominent role in the history of music
00:24the site for tonight's fisticuffs is Shreveport's most famous building and a genuine landmark in the
00:32history of both country music and rock and roll for the municipal auditorium was the home of the
00:37legendary radio show the louisiana hayride hank williams was one of its first stars and johnny cash
00:44was a regular on the show but its most famous discovery was a young singer from tupelo mississippi
00:50who wowed the teenagers and frightened their parents elvis presley well i'd like to say how
00:55happy we are to be down here the chance to appear on the louisiana hayride yes thank you very much
01:01and elvis presley probably would have appreciated the lavish costumes that was it that was a lame
01:06impersonation wasn't it and theatrical approach of bernard hopkins but as you'll soon see hopkins has
01:11gone in a different direction in terms of his unique wardrobe stay tuned mr blackwell our main event

01:27jackson for the ibf middleweight championship
01:33well bernard hopkins captured the vacant ibf middleweight title almost two years ago to the day
01:38when he stopped segundo mercado in their rematch the first fight was a draw in mercado's hometown of
01:44quito ecuador although many thought that hopkins had won the fight hopkins has only two losses in 33
01:51fights the first came at his pro debut in 1988 the second against the great roy jones in 1993. however
01:58hopkins went the distance with jones was that a testament to hopkins skills or was it just an aberration
02:04as we go behind the scenes into the dressing room of the champion bernard hopkins out of the fighting city
02:09of philadelphia pennsylvania interestingly hopkins used to spar with the man he faces tonight
02:16the southpaw john david jackson in fact jackson claims that he taught hopkins how to fight against
02:21southpaws this a rivalry that goes back in time but tonight for the first time they actually meet in
02:27a scheduled bout and on top of that a world championship is on the line
02:39i met john in champ's gym in philadelphia where he was uh getting ready for a fight and i was just
02:45starting my uh career i was champion 154 wbo and he was upcoming you know strong kid he wanted work so
02:53they put us in together he was a middleweight and i was a middleweight and we spar i think for about
02:57maybe a year and a year and a half we uh we sparred every day consistently now almost eight years later
03:04these two former sparring partners who know each other's styles so well are preparing to fight it out
03:14he wanted to talk me really well one of the ones that taught me how to fight southpaws i didn't teach
03:18him everything you know i showed him how southpaw to beat him i didn't show him how to be southpaws
03:23the right-handed hopkins and the southpaw jackson have very different fighting techniques hopkins is
03:28strong and aggressive and relies on his power while jackson uses speed and skill to win his bounce
03:34i don't think john uh can stand the pressure and the speed and and the power that i'm going to portray
03:40on him he brags about himself real good but uh he um you know bernard's not he doesn't really excel in one
03:46area he's he's busy he doesn't overwhelm me with anything but he's just a consistent fighter
03:52consistent you know as the rounds wear on though he starts to die out that's always been everybody's
03:57thing but the problem is you got to get to get to the eight nine rounds see what we're going to do
04:01the first four or five rounds sit around look at each other if he won't fight i'll make him fight
04:06and the bottom line is if he doesn't want to be in there i will help him get out i'm gonna fit
04:12traps for him and when he comes to come in i won't be there that's my whole strategy is just the
04:16boxing you know take him to school and give him a boxing lesson i guess when i beat him out and
04:20graduated i think he'll be mad enough to say that well bernard knocked me out cold flat and
04:26he graduated so maybe he'll have my diploma after i knocked him out
04:39yes two fighters who know each other very well but don't like each other very much now hopkins is
04:47known for his combination punching bobby his jabbing his great conditioning but does he have the right
04:52combination the winning combination against a guy like john david jackson who's elusive defensive
04:57minded and on top of that a southpaw with an awkward jab well you know what's going to come
05:01down you have two fighters here that have almost identical records and accomplishments with world
05:05titles going into the fight on paper it looks like almost a virtual toss-up right now the momentum
05:09is on the side of hopkins his recent accomplishments outweigh what david john david jackson has done as of
05:14recent time but this is a grudge match that goes all the way back to a philadelphia gym and i know the
05:19the bragging rights in the philly gym is a big big thing it's a fighter who implements his
05:24will and his skill in this fight that wins because both have style and the opportunity and the skill
05:29to do it a lot of pride a lot of pride at stake here as we turn back to the fight doctor ferdy pacheco
05:34and ferdy john david jackson is looking to bounce back off a rare defeat how does that factor into the
05:40equation you know it's always been my my thought of a guy's a champion a loss is nothing but a kick in
05:45the butt you know you just turn around and say that couldn't happen to me again i don't know how i got
05:49beat that day but today i'm coming back and show you much better what i'm going to do i think first
05:54of all it was a question of a loss he got knocked down at the beginning he got up so according to
05:58people that saw it he struggled through and won the fight but it was given to the other guy it's okay
06:03it just serves to kick you in the bottom and say hey you're not so hot you you got to get back to the
06:07basics and show everybody how great you are i think it inspires him all right remember back in 1994 he was
06:14ahead after eight rounds convincingly against jorge castro and then out of nowhere he got knocked out
06:19by castro how do you think that has affected him psychologically the last few years yeah great deal
06:24that kind of thing wakes you up and says oh this could happen again he just got caught he got caught
06:29a shot from no remember we were all screaming that fight should have been stopped because of the massive
06:33beating that he was given castro castro just got lucky with one shot yeah it affects you a little bit
06:38but you shake it off and you can't fight thinking hey one one shot's going to knock me out eventually
06:43it wears out like all painful things in life do all right spoken like a true doctor okay oh yes all
06:50right let's take a look right now at the challenger and there he is john david jackson he's been around
06:56since 84 former wba middleweight and wbo junior middleweight champion but he is getting this world title
07:02shot despite losing his last fight a 10 round split decision to a man named abdul ramadan

07:38the ring a slick southpaw who who may have the best defensive skills of anyone at 160. he may be

08:02illustration of boxing's politics or perhaps it reflects the the current condition of the middleweight
08:07division yet this has the ingredients of a very competitive fight it certainly does i think that
08:11bobby's earlier description which was so good uh we should write it down someplace that's affected this
08:17guy too he lost the fight listen you can't cut it any other which way he lost the fight shouldn't be
08:21number one if he lost the fight but here he is he's very competitive he might not have lost that fight
08:25but this is a very competitive fight this is an equal fight still the way the rankings go nowadays it's a
08:32money game i will say and let's take a look at the champion there he is bernard hopkins about to make
08:38his fourth defense of the ibf middleweight title he won all three defenses by way of knockout
08:58bernard hopkins the first middleweight champion from the boxing rich city of philadelphia that in itself
09:04somewhat of a curiosity and as noted hopkins and jackson used to spar together in philly jackson
09:10claiming that he taught hopkins how to fight against lefties and bobby tonight he probably hopes he
09:16wasn't that good of a teacher you know steve regardless of how good or bad jackson was as a
09:21teacher if hopkin has hopkins has the tools and he's ready and able mentally and physically he'll win the
09:27fight come firstly if he doesn't this fight is going to be about the will to win and being able to
09:38put your style and your tools together well all right bobby how about this bernard hopkins the fighter
09:44formally dressed as the executioner remember when hopkins used to enter the ring in his sinister
09:50looking get up these are days gone by complete with his executioner mask looked like a runaway from a

15:14due to promotional problems he left Butch Lewis for Dan Goosen and America
15:18presents so he feels better about everything from the category just in
15:22case five and oh with five knockouts against Southpaws Jackson the number one
15:27contender despite losing his last fight which he calls a blessing in disguise
15:32because he now he knows his Hopkins thinks he's slipping perhaps false
15:35confidence for Hopkins and a very interested spectator the WBA middleweight
15:40champion in the crowd William Joppy very aggressive fighter out of Rockville
15:44Maryland in need of a big-name opponent but tough to find at 160 he has to
15:49unify the title perhaps he's a future opponent here here we go round one
15:55scheduled for 12 for the IBF middleweight championship Bernard Hopkins the
15:59champion and the black trunks with the gold trim John David Jackson and the
16:04all-gold trunks the challenger you know both of these fighters were so light at the
16:08Wayne that they're just about junior middle or super welter call what you like
16:12that's that's 154 just a couple of pounds over that they could be in any
16:16division that's a lot of aggression just in that last little rhubarb there was
16:20kind of gutter kind of fighting nothing Jackson almost slipped after that wild
16:25punch I've noticed that Hopkins has difficulty with opponents that move
16:28around a lot Jackson likes to frustrate opponents with lots of movement
16:32historically they want Jackson has trouble with busy fighters and Hopkins
16:37told us the key tonight is pressure so we've got some interesting ingredients
16:40going into this one well right now I think it's it's a cat and mouse game it's a
16:44serious chess match going on they know each other from a long time ago haven't
16:48sparred with each other for a lot of years a lot of changes probably made and
16:52they both still think they know one another but two different fighters
16:55Jackson has a very wide stance Bobby take a look at how wide it is between
16:59those two yeah he likes a rock and roll in and out back and forth move out of the
17:03way not a big puncher crisp sharp counter puncher likes to be fast there was
17:09quite a bit of trash talking between these two guys in the days leading up to this
17:14by Jackson saying the key is everything off the jab work the right hook use the
17:20angles he said he won't run he said if he can get past the first four rounds this is
17:24Jackson that is important that's when Hopkins is most dangerous to too much
17:29respect being shown by both guys both guys doing a lot of thinking you know and
17:32throwing first booze heard from the crowd Hopkins said this will be a technical
17:39fight a chess match if you will well I better be getting better than this they
17:44literally look like they don't want to let the glove touch you either you know
17:49either way yeah I mean it's not like they're in there mixing it up finally a
17:54little contact there the crowd is going obviously in the background getting on
18:00these two fighters they want more action have you ever seen a fight where
18:04everything's color-coordinated including the gloves both guys got yellow and
18:07black gloves and they got yellow and black trunks on yes this main event
18:11dedicated as I mentioned to mr. black black mr. blackwell's in evidence certainly
18:16nothing else is inevitable now right now John David Jackson has landed a few more
18:23shots nothing really significant but I think maybe a total of five blows have
18:28been landed and he maybe got four of them Hopkins said to us hey if he wants to
18:33make it a cat-and-mouse game I can box I don't look for him to slug it out I'm not
18:39going to look for one big shot he is too elusive talking about the man in gold John
18:43David Jackson a part-time model and actor well we fight distinguished by lack of action
18:50I'm going to put a little pressure on him don't let wait for him okay pick it up a little bit this

19:49a worthy champion talking about Hopkins does nothing well he said we were friends until he started
19:54ducking me so things getting very personal between these two let's see if the action heats up I was
19:59gonna say would that they could transfer that into the ring and translate it into action well you really
20:04think about it though how could a fight not be personal how could a fight not be personal to a
20:09certain degree sure it's business but God it's got to be personal it's like those executioners that
20:13say this is nothing personal but I'm taking your life I think it's what isn't a rule of thumb not to
20:19fight angry doesn't that take you out of the game plan Tyson a guy who professes controlled anger is
20:24okay but it has to be controlled okay if you fight angry and you let the anger get the better of you
20:29could take you out of your game plan you could you know throw all your punches in an array of different
20:34ways that are not good I'm up I'm up trying to take a man's head off right what a bark that was from
20:40John Fimi barked out to break I think he scared both fighters one minute gone by in round two round one
20:48totally uneventful holding and hitting here by John David Jackson actually lifting Hopkins off the canvas
20:56with those uppercuts Hopkins was told in the corner get to step it up start working in the way out
21:01get them hands where now it's a clinch festival stop punching stop punching yeah stop punching
21:07and the fans continue to voice their displeasure here in Shreveport
21:15Hopkins telling us he's going to fight as if he's the challenger not the champion but somebody has to
21:23take the initiative the referee's got to take control of this fight it's going to turn into a
21:28real wrestling match it's going to be elbows shoulders and heads on the inside he's got to take control
21:32wild swing and a miss overhand right attempt there by Bernard Hopkins Hopkins very cool when we
21:45asked him yesterday was he used to uh left-handers he said I knocked every one of them out yeah he
21:50said he was five and oh with five knockouts against him including uh his last fight of 96 against Joe the
21:57Hammer Lipsy in the fourth round that was an impressive knockout through Lipsy strong puncher with both hands
22:03came to fight and was winning early but then got caught and when he got caught the executioner did finish
22:08more Jackson said he trained 12 weeks for this fight Hopkins told us he's in great condition trained
22:15up at Big Bear altitude about 7,000 feet he said he not only wants to win but do it convincingly but
22:24so far we are not seeing that probably where he dropped all that weight up there he's only about 156
22:31both coming in under the 160 limit this fight they've done nothing but grab each other and fight
22:39very hard to judge right the first one I thought Hopkins I mean Jackson and Punchmore I don't know
22:47where to go here except even well in one of the more compelling fights of 1994 John David Jackson battled
22:57Argentinian Jorge Castro we mentioned it before uh Bernie in Monterrey Mexico in a non-stop furious
23:04affair Jackson had the upper hand for eight rounds when in round nine Jackson after unleashing a wicked
23:10combination watch what happens here Castro will miss with the right and then land cleanly with a winging
23:19left hook boom right to the head Jackson walked right into it and he bounced his head off watch how he
23:27bounces it off the canvas boom you see that's like getting hit twice and that is like hitting it
23:31with a baseball bat after he went down and some ringside observers thought it could have been
23:35stopped earlier in Jackson's favor we were those including us we were screaming what do you want
23:41to do kill this guy and all of a sudden he comes up with a punch well he's three and one since the
23:46dramatic loss birdie with that 10 round decision over James Green guy Stanford and Augustine Renneria and the
23:51split decision loss to Abdul Ramadan well Hopkins better get his game plan going if he has got a
23:57game plan because so far he's shown nothing nothing except the grab he said round three for the IBF
24:03middleweight championship not much has happened look out action actually caught Hopkins on his way down
24:11his smile on the face of yeah it was nice he could have let him drop looking more like WWE yeah Hopkins still
24:19uh with a with a big smile Hopkins now going in on the attack saw a little opening there but couldn't
24:27take advantage you know John David Jackson's legs just came out from under him I don't really think
24:30he was that hurt but he just went back in his knees buckled and he just couldn't seem to get his
24:35bounce I really don't think he was hurt I don't think he was hurt at all I'm not even sure he's hit on
24:39on the other hand I wonder what's wrong with his legs look he did it again see his leg slipped it under
24:44again stop punching stop punching guys back up back up when I say break take a step back this may be one
24:52of those old uh punch and grab kind of fights I mean ever since he gets in close it's punch and grab
24:59John David Jackson a natural lefty who calls himself ambidextrous he can switch there you go John he did that
25:06against uh Castro early on he feels that his power is in his right hand although he's a southclaw see
25:12the referee's got to take charge he's got to break this up he cannot allow this to continue no he said
25:16he said to him John let him go let him go he must get between them Johnny Femia
25:26finally splitting them apart
25:27now this is basically been a dance-a-thon here and a clinch fest yeah clutch-a-thon yes
25:37a little arrogant smile on the face of Bernard Hopkins I don't understand why right now Hopkins is
25:43leaning a little bit more effectively with the right hand but as soon as he gets close enough
25:47Jackson ties him up both old Hopkins normally an adaptable type fighter likes to go to the body
25:55an infighter he's got an attitude has difficulty as mentioned with guys who who move around a lot
26:03that certainly is the style of Jackson but Jackson has a kind of style he doesn't mind boring you to
26:08death if he thinks that's what's going to get the job done he will do that he doesn't go in looking for
26:13the knockout a boxer technician very slow to attack defensive tries to put his combinations together and
26:20frustrate his opponents what he has to do is he has to do the best with what he has he's not a big
26:25not a big strong one punch knockout artist if he can move confuse you with his southpaw style as
26:30well as his speed and unusual angles that's what he's supposed to do two or three times the referee
26:36has said stop holding now he's pointing at Jackson and really saying it because he's the one that's
26:40doing the holding see as soon as he gets in he grabs Jackson does have that awkward jab sometimes
26:46leaves himself open after the jab we'll see if Hopkins can take advantage later
26:55see a double up going to the body and see a double up going to the body look your tongue out for me
26:59you know

27:13let's take a look at that awkward lift that reminded us of wrestling circles you know here
27:19Jackson could have let him drop and see right there let him drop no he held him so it's kind of nice
27:24gentlemanly thing that was a lovely dip it was it was kind of a an orchestrated dancer you know what
27:31it is it's getting sickening here because there's no fight by the way i'd be remiss before the action
27:36starts if we don't wish i know you did we want to wish jimmy lennon uh to get well i'm kind of mad at
27:42him because he didn't call me for a house call i'd have gone all the way to california to see him your
27:46bedside matter alone would have been all he had to do was call me jimmy's a friend all right round four
27:55i thought this was a contact sport but not here between these two guys hopkins and jackson so far

28:10kenny didn't have a bad look by the way i wouldn't doubt it all right round four continues this uh for
28:16the ibf middleweight championship the champion bernard hopkins in the black trunks the challenger
28:21john david jackson and the goal now both fighters talked about going to the body hopkins wanted to
28:27slow jackson down by going to his body and conversely jackson said the same thing i want to take him out
28:32of his game plan no one's gone to his body i'll hit him there and slow him down but neither really doing
28:38that very well hopkins 30 wins two losses one draw with 23 ko's jackson 36 and 2 and 19 knockouts he's
28:46eight and one in title fight straight right hand there by uh bernard hopkins well that's the first
28:52kind of good punch that landed yeah that's probably the best punch landed so far because his head went
28:57back and it looked effective oh jackson almost walked in what i say before when he lets loose with
29:04a jab he lets himself open he's wobbled a straight right accommodation by hopkins hopkins now trying to
29:11pour it on tell you what his strength factor here is going to be leaning heavily toward hopkins favor
29:16he landed a couple of clean shots on john david jackson jackson's got a move and he's got a counter
29:21he cannot allow hopkins just run in and hopkins now working the body hopkins does have power
29:26and speed jackson looks like a days ago his face looks like a days and his legs look weak
29:32i mean he doesn't look like he's fighting with strength look at his face he's he's uh he's got a massive
29:38indifference almost many wondering how you lose your last fight and still retain your number one
29:43ranking and that's the case with john david jackson you know john david jackson said that he got knocked
29:47down the first round he got up he survived second round he took off just to get his head clear
29:52and won the last eight and even his opponent said you won the fight so maybe somebody in the ratings
29:57committee oh what a beautiful right hand now that's a shot now david is in trouble john david is in
30:05trouble down he goes but the referee johnny feme is saying it was a push or a slip
30:12so it is not a knockdown although jackson has been staggered he is wobbly right
30:18is wobbly he's not sure of himself
30:23we talked about the castro fight he came out and he fought castro as opposed to boxing moving and
30:27as bernard would say stink the place out there's nothing oh right hand by by bernard hopkins and
30:34jackson is in trouble but that's the problem jackson started to fight with castro and that's what
30:40happened and here's what's happening here he cannot fight he's got a box see he did a wrestling move
30:45there he jumped up to be to be funny and it's not funny at all and it could have cost him a point he's
30:50lucky it didn't jackson on very wobbly legs as the bell sounds big round for hopkins big could have
30:58blown it by that stupid uh comedy what happened to the sponge what a sponge that guy hold this up here
31:08let's take a look at how he got in trouble to begin with jackson's fighting him and not really
31:25really being effective but he gets hit to see that right hand now watch what happens to him later in
31:30the round bobby well we'll take a look hopkins is trying to unload with that right hand you'll watch
31:36it connect right there and you can see the legs come out from jackson he's a little unsteady there
31:42that right hand is finding its mark and he's got to neutralize the right hand and the way he
31:46needs to do that is to slip outside it slip under it or use his own counter hook and those tactics
31:51unnecessary by hopkins at the end hopkins connecting with a series of straight rights chasing jackson
31:57around the ring at 115 into the last round round four another at 210 and a big right at 240 that staggered
32:04jackson round five now and for the first time in this fight i have hopkins ahead 39 38 what do you
32:11have bobby i have a 39 to 37 i had the first round for jackson the next three for hopkins the third is a
32:17little more effective in the second round and certainly in the last two with that right hand he's been
32:21getting home much cleaner there again you see it hopkins applying the pressure again pressing the attack
32:28combination he landed with the straight right well we're past round four this is where jackson thinks
32:34he could take over and start to implement his boxing and be effective this is where we need to see him
32:39make his move oh a smacking straight right hand by by hopkins again jackson walking right into it
32:46yeah it does he doesn't look too enthusiastic things don't look too great for jackson right now he looks
32:51like he's fighting a falling apart fight a fight and retreat a defeated fight
32:58hopkins with all kinds of confidence right now very much in command the last couple of rounds
33:03after a very lackluster start by both man jackson waving it off saying i'm okay which usually means
33:08that he may be hurt well with his legs so wide as ferdy pointed out earlier he doesn't maintain
33:12really really good balance and sometimes when he leans back he almost falls over because the legs
33:17are so wide after that wild miss bobby by hopkins a clash of heads you know bobby that's why i was
33:22pointing it out to at the beginning how could this guy with his legs that big think that wide apart
33:27think he's going to have motion to get away when he wants to he can't that they're too far apart
33:30and even coming forward with him he's so far off balance hopkins doesn't seem to be having any
33:36problem with the southpaw style here of john david jackson oh what a vicious right cross to the face
33:42of jackson by hopkins big punch hopkins talked about not only cleaning up the middleweights
33:47but possibly jockeying back aboard between the super middles well tonight he was so like he'd go
33:51down to the junior middles as well sure oh another thumping straight right hand to the jaw by bernard
33:57hopkins and now hopkins is grabbing in earnest when he gets when he gets in trouble he just grabs
34:05and holds on that right is finding a home i'm sorry i'm sorry i just made a mistake jackson is the one

34:29another big round for bernard hopkins the executioner after a very uh
34:35listless start he looks like he's having fun though but he was smiling earlier maybe he knew
34:44something hopkins looks like he's having fun and the fact that jackson does not a big punch he needs
34:50to put together some combinations he needs to get going and hopkins continues to smile as he heads back
34:57to the corner why not he won the round good a little closer i want to see go with the loop i want to
35:01make him duck the loop i want to duck it don't worry about hitting him duck it make him duck it
35:09they can duck it i'm going you're doing all right
35:18three four punches you go one or two punches not enough
35:22go ahead not enough of them off of course just take a little bit up to the lead punch
35:26up the lead punch to take off you know watch his wide stance that jackson has just keeps his feet so
35:32far apart most of the time that when he goes to lean back or either way he's off balance there you
35:36saw he leaned into the ropes he just doesn't have any balance when he bends backward all his weight is
35:41on one side of his body he can't jockey or shift back and forth you know it's terrible
35:45but i i just don't don't see how a guy can fight like that and maintain mobility and when he gets
35:53hit he has nowhere to go he's way apart he has no base no foundation the belt for round six for

36:04winner david reed the lone u.s gold medal man for the first time they tangle feet there as we repeat
36:11over and over again happens with left hand i mean their feet just get together lead their lead foot
36:16is on top of one or the other jackson hasn't won a round perhaps since the first and really hasn't
36:22scored cleanly on hopkins all night the last two three rounds all bernard hopkins and he has landed
36:29some wicked blows to the face and body of jackson that's what jackson needs to do just what he did there
36:38he let hop he let hopkins throw some punches slipped one blocked one and fired back with two or three
36:43but he has to be more effective and he has to get hopkins respect boy that was no punch at all
36:50that was no punch at all telegraphed at a very soft left hook that was easily guarded by hopkins
36:56that landed would have not had any effect that was a bona fide slap that was a pillow of error that was
37:03well i think some of the punishment dished out by hopkins has taken a lot of steam out of
37:07john david jackson here obviously he's become tentative he doesn't want to punch real hard
37:12thinking he's going to get counted real hard oh a good left hook there by jackson out of nowhere but

37:34he needs to use his speed to counter and counter sharp in between hopkins big shots he needs to
37:40counter second warning for holding against the challenger jackson by johnny femia

38:03and you heard the instructions not to hit him when he turns around and oh that right hand was solid
38:09those bernard hopkins with a vicious right down goes jackson scrambling scrolling to the canvas

38:2930 seconds to go in round six can jackson survive the round i don't think he's in trouble
38:34but he got caught the initial shot was a little bit of a big shot

38:49boy his legs just aren't under i mean his legs just aren't under 30 he just seems to be trying to get
38:55all the way to all cost to the points it is not it's not good yeah the future does not seem bright
39:03for john jackson you can't take the awesome buddy you can't take the awesome you're going you're going
39:10the wrong way you keep going to him right there right there right there you're running the wrong way
39:16on him buddy you're going the wrong way on him you got to go to your left i mean your right go to your
39:22right don't go to your left you see let's take a look you see the body shots there and it's you know
39:31it's kind of a good shot but he's all balanced he hit him in the body and therefore and therefore
39:36it's a knockdown yeah well i think it was a legitimate knockdown but before that he'd gotten
39:40powdered pretty good he was kind of slipping and sliding his foot just comes hit his back left foot
39:45just slipped up out from under him not a clean knockdown but he hit him anyway yeah and that wide
39:51stance is going to cost this guy all through this fight it's just one of the factors in the fight
39:57he's not going to teach him how to do different now we've reached the halfway point

40:38but that's because he stepped on his foot he's tangled but that is a very slapping shot by john david

40:53he's got problems he's not only got him uh the hopkins to worry about he's got to keep arguing with
40:58the referee i'm not holding him he's holding me and he keeps on saying to him it's not me it's him
41:03what's the mom's free the punching continues here now as they hang on this is what we call awkward
41:11in fighting yes tie one hand up throw a little bit with the other hand switch off and tie another
41:16hand up and smack around a little bit nothing real effective happening here on the inside
41:27lay him up now this is boarding on uh what what we see over and over again styles
41:34don't like the fight this this style is not pleasing to watch it one one style is not fitting the other
41:41one is survival and the other guy's going all out for knockout there's the jab by john david
41:47jackson trying to set up the left it was flush on the face yeah but see it wasn't there right it
41:51wasn't a straight it was a roundhouse the south pole is not supposed to throw a left hook he's supposed
41:56to throw a right hook from right hand and that gets hopkins gone here's the whole arsenal a barrage by

42:08very closely here oh look out oh that's a big right hand right hand by bernard hopkins and jackson
42:15going through the ropes and he continues to hit them and that's it it's over johnny phemia jr
42:23finally steps in and ends it and jackson does not know where he is he just was not defending himself
42:28he didn't go down the ropes actually hurt him he would have better off going down taking the knee
42:32getting some rest clearing his head and getting back in the game but he just didn't do what he
42:36had to do well it shows he wasn't there his mind wasn't there he was not conscious and uh again they
42:41did the right thing um he has no complaint about that i think about what bobby just pointed out the rope
42:46actually it was his enemy because he should have gone down he couldn't i don't think would have
42:50made any difference if he got up probably he was he was gone and i think he thought that the referee
42:54was going to come in a moment earlier and so he let his guard down which of course is the first mistake
43:00and hopkins really went in after him after that this is one of those nights where you expect a great
43:06fight can't wait for it to happen and then it doesn't happen there was a complete domination
43:10of hopkins to jackson jackson didn't have any idea how to fight him his stance was wrong he didn't
43:16know how to deliver the punch i was expecting the john david jackson that showed up for the castro
43:21fight because he was fighting castro well beating him from go to post and not that i expect him to do
43:25that to hopkins but i expected that type of style in out combination step back back and forth because he
43:31fought a great fight against castro even though he stood in and punched with him where he shouldn't have
43:36with hopkins and we wouldn't but expected a little more well all expectations are not always met in
43:42boxing this is one of those nights we expected it it didn't happen so bernard hopkins makes his fourth
43:49successful defense of the title bernard hopkins is here the strength big fact you see him land a couple
43:55of big shots and he works to the body big right hand there to the body and again up top he rips it up
44:00the left hand the right hand top of the head side of the head bernard hopkins kept the pressure on
44:05here kept the punches didn't load up would have made sure they landed and then you'll see don jv
44:09jackson does something on the ropes here that's awkward he sits on it and then comes almost through
44:14ropes doesn't really go down right there doesn't touch it doesn't touch you see the ref the referee
44:20started to step in between him and he got hit clean while the ref was there all right from overhead bobby

44:33and now when he stands up i think he thinks it's a knockdown he drops his hands and he gets hit with
44:38two or three clean shots and then the referee just completely stops the fight i think there was some
44:42misunderstanding there on john david jackson's part and the referee was a little shaky for a minute yes
44:48so bernard hopkins going to 31 2-1 with 24 knockouts as the two uh embrace
44:56and john david jackson slips to 36 and three he's now lost two in a row
44:59and you have to really wonder about his future very uh very shaky okay it's important
45:07hopkins told us he wants to dominate the middleweight division take on wbo champ lonnie
45:11bradley unified the ibf and wbo titles then move up fight wbo super middleweight champ irish steve
45:18collins or frankie louse a lot of guys yelling out stevie collins name lately isn't it uh-huh

46:04by both fighters first few rounds were uneventful the fans were booing
46:07hopkins took over bobby and uh put his stamp on this fight no question about that yeah it took him
46:14a little bit of time to solve jackson but jackson wasn't giving him enough to worry about he needed
46:18to hit him more cleanly combinations crisp combinations while hopkins was coming in that
46:24would have made him stop and think and not be as effective as he was so the southpaw style of john
46:29david jackson no problem whatsoever for bernard hopkins set for post fight interviews from a main event to

47:18eight no when i fought john when he was at top of the game at junior middleweight i love him i give

48:14you know i underestimated him i thought i didn't learn enough but tonight he proved he did uh
48:18the wages really got too much too low um i've been fighting like 165 lately you know but i mean
48:23young strong young man he proved tonight that he's a better man and i can't think you agree with
48:26the stoppage because it really did look like it was stopped right we know finally i never gonna
48:31agree to that but um the referee made the decision and i respect that and um nothing to do about it

49:40was right bernard said what he had to say with his hands all right down to uh down to business
49:45how would bernard hopkins do against lonnie bradley in your mind you know the fights you can't tell
49:51with boxers you know john david jackson i thought was going to cause him more trouble and he didn't
49:54it depends on lonnie bradley's chin when he gets it with that right hand what happens and how well he
49:58is at making the executioner hopkins miss slip and bang him back these are things we can't tell
50:03until they get in the ring because no matter who you hire as a sparring partner it's it's the guy that
50:07you're going to fight that'll dictate what you can do and if he moves up uh the likes of frankie
50:11lyles and that name keeps popping up irish steve collins irish steve collins a tough fight i think it's
50:15a great fight i think 156 pounds they might be better off going to junior middle as opposed to super
50:20middle they weren't even full-blown middleweights and i just i was amazed at how light they were
