Transcript
00:00Yeah, everyone ready? Yeah, sure I'm ready. Ready? Yeah, cool.
00:05Toby, first of all, welcome to Crawley. Second of all, what way to make your professional debut? How was that?
00:10Yeah, brilliant. I'm so pleased to be here and it was a good first game from all the boys.
00:17But yeah, it was a really enjoyable game to be part of. So yeah, really good to be here.
00:22Yeah, talk to us a little bit through when did you first hear about the potential move?
00:26Because as we know, with these emergency loans, things move very quickly. So at what point did you get the call?
00:31And then at what point did you check who we've got next to see if it was Birmingham away?
00:34Yeah, no, like you say, it was very quick. I think maybe two days or literally a day before I came up is when I got told.
00:43And I got told straight away it was Birmingham the first game. But no, I was so excited for it.
00:49And yeah, I've really buzzed for it. So I'm glad that it all happened. And yeah, it was really good to make.
00:55Yeah, and it's weird to speak a little bit off camera. Some way to settle the nerves when, you know,
00:5915 million James Stroudsfield's through on goal and you make a save one-on-one.
01:02It must have sort of, did you have any nerves coming into the game or did that sort of help settle them?
01:07Yeah, for sure. There's always nerves, but you know, it sort of equals out with adrenaline.
01:11And yeah, like you say, that definitely helped, that one-on-one. But the boys looked after me brilliantly.
01:17All those lads at the back, Dion, Charlie and Rudders. So yeah, no, it was really good. Yeah, I enjoyed it.
01:24Yeah, and what I suppose, as you said there, it was a good performance from us today.
01:28You would have only had one, is that right, one training session or two?
01:31Two.
01:32Two training sessions. So that obviously gave you a fair taste of real match action.
01:35And with three games left of the season, you know, you must give a player like yourself.
01:38Obviously, you'll be playing on Monday as well. Some good confidence that we can, you know, kick on and get the points that we need.
01:43Yeah, for sure. Like, this is a level one player and I think the boys are brilliant.
01:47And yeah, I think we can definitely get some results in these last few games. So yeah, for sure.
01:52Yeah, and what has it been like obviously working with Scott?
01:55Because we know even from a goalkeeping side of things, he demands a lot.
01:58He demands goalkeepers to play, you know, well with their feet. So what's that been like?
02:02Is that what you've been used to before? Is that like a sort of fresh challenge for yourself?
02:05Yeah, no, it's definitely a fresh challenge. He's a good manager and he definitely makes you want to play for him
02:12and work hard. So yeah, no, he plays a good style of play. And yeah, I think, you know, it was tough obviously
02:20with not being here too long, but I think once I got into it, you know, it was good.
02:26Yeah, and obviously as we spoke a little bit about already, you've got a game to prepare for on Monday.
02:31Again, talking of settling nerves and everything and helping ease you in, it's obviously good for yourself
02:36that we got, you know, what is a positive result here and obviously a clean sheet as well.
02:39It must sort of fill you with confidence and make you want to get back out there on Monday.
02:42Yeah, for sure. But you know, every game is its own. So we'll go into Monday with, you know, the same mindset of trying to win.
02:49And, you know, we could have won today, but, you know, like you say, a point is a good point against, you know, a good side.
02:54So yeah, we'll go on Monday just as, just as energised.
02:59Great. Obviously Scott has a particular style of playing, as we've said.
03:03Yes.
03:04There must have been a lot of information you had to take in the last couple of days in your training session.
03:07Can you just talk us through that and how much sort of information you did have to take on?
03:10Yeah, for sure. He definitely, Scott and the team definitely helped me. Like we went through it, we went through patterns.
03:16And, you know, they explained in depth what I had to do and how the boys were going to help me out in doing it.
03:21Like you say, there's, there's a certain way that we play out from goal kicks.
03:25So yeah, I had to take it on, but like, I think it definitely, you can see in the game, it was effective when we got it right.
03:34So yeah, no, they definitely helped out with me taking it on.
03:38Yeah, Dion, was he sort of, as captain and as senior pro kind of thing, was he talking to you throughout the game and just talking you through certain movements and that?
03:46Yeah, no, for sure. Dion is a very experienced player and, you know, like I say, he helped me out throughout the game.
03:52But he put as much trust in me than I put in trust in him.
03:55So, you know, I just tried to perform as well as I could to prove him that, you know, I can play.
04:02So yeah, no, he was really good to me and I really appreciate it.
04:05And when Scott came back as manager, after the first training session with the players, he was like, I can't believe they're down, struggling where they are because of the talent in the squad.
04:14Is that the impression you've got since you've been here as well?
04:16Yeah, definitely. I think the boys are so talented and it's such a good team.
04:20You know, it's a shame they haven't had some results that haven't gone their way.
04:25But like you say, like the talent in the squad is definitely good enough to stay up.
04:31And we'll just have to see what happens in the last few games, but we're going to try our best for sure.
04:35Brilliant. Thanks, Toby.
04:36Thanks a lot. Just Gary to go.
