00:00A woman in Florida celebrated her 103rd birthday.
00:10She was born in 1918.
00:13She says, it flew by.
00:15I bet.
00:17Here's her story now from WESH 2 News.
00:21Take a listen.
00:22...in a shady spot.
00:23Well, inside, appropriately arranged cupcakes for the guest of honor.
00:27I know you noticed the cupcakes. You ready for one of those?
00:30Oh, yeah.
00:33A celebration of Lorraine Englehart.
00:36Mayor of Altman Springs also dropped by to honor the mother of 4, grandmother of 12, great-grandma to 24, and great-great-grandmother of 10.
00:46Hereby wish Lorraine Englehart a very happy 103rd birthday
00:51and hope that she may continue to enjoy quality time with her family, friends, and this community for many more years.
00:59Why do old women look like they're just ready to cry at any second?
01:02Well, look like she was ready.
01:03Yeah.
01:04I think it was just hard.
01:05I think that's just how she is.
01:06Yeah.
01:07But she's, I don't know, she laughs after everything she says.
01:11Yeah, she's like, oh, it's terrible that death was right around the corner.
01:18I sewed my whole life to cover up the pain.
01:23That's horrible.
01:25Maybe she misses sewing, but she can't sew.
01:27Maybe.
01:28Oh, that's probably it.
01:29She's got those, she's got photo albums of it, you know?
01:32Yeah, yeah.
01:33It was really important to her.
01:34Yeah, but you can't actually do it anymore.
01:35Maybe that made her emotional.
01:36Right.
01:37Oh, God.
01:38That just made me a lot more sad.
01:40Yeah, I know.
01:41Yeah.
01:42Oh, look at these cars.
01:43They put a stupid hat on me.
01:46You know, that's for a change.
01:48Because they're sprawled out all over.
01:51You know, you've really reached a milestone birthday when the birthday card given to you
01:56by fellow residents and staff has to be amended to reflect your actual life.
02:01She's probably crying because she's still alive, right?
02:03Yeah, I don't know any of that.
02:05And in.
02:06I don't know any of these people.
02:07I didn't want to be 100.
02:09I didn't want to be 89.
02:10I didn't want to be 88.
02:12I definitely didn't want to be 87.
02:15I can't wait to die.
02:17I remember a time when I was like, there's no way I want to be 74 years old.
02:22Think about it.
02:24That was 30 years ago.
02:26My God.
02:27And me saying it went by in a flash, that's a bunch of BS.
02:34Yeah, that's just a lie to make you feel better about your time on this earth.
02:38Come in here and give me a little party party.
02:41Put a little dumb hat on me and bring the news.
02:44She was born so long ago, they don't know the exact date.
02:47Look at this.
02:48Born July 23rd or 24th, 1918.
02:51Oh my gosh.
02:52I don't know.
02:53Is that a record of it?
02:54Nobody knows.
02:55One of those days.
02:56It's my birthday.
02:57That is the craziest thing.
03:02They hadn't invented records yet.
03:07That guy scribbled a bit.
03:09You couldn't really tell.
03:11A century of memories he has right there.
03:14That's like a whole book of memories.
03:17You made 500 quilts.
03:19Yeah.
03:20I wouldn't say it's a century.
03:2225 pages.
03:24That's all I remember.
03:26Oh man.
03:27I couldn't tell you what happened.
03:29Imagine.
03:30Can you just imagine how much you'd hurt at 103?
03:33Oh my God.
03:34I can't.
03:35At this age, you get lower back pain and shoulders.
03:37Oh my God.
03:38Is that like 103?
03:39I don't know.
03:40Because every year the pains get more and more and more.
03:43Like I need 103 years.
03:45I feel like I just make that noise all the time.
03:48Just Lorraine, do you like your little light birthday hat that you got on?
03:52It's excruciatingly painful the way that the thing is wrapped around the bottom of my chin
03:58and it's cutting into the blood vessels.
04:00That's because it's designed for a child.
04:03It's excruciating.
04:04And they put it on your head.
04:05It's excruciating.
04:06Look at it.
04:07It's cutting off the circulation.
04:09Thanks for the cards.
04:12It's excruciating.
04:14She just says that over and over.
04:16Yeah.
04:17Yeah.
04:18It's excru...
04:19How's your day?
04:20It's excruciatingly painful.
04:22I'm stuck in a wheelchair.
04:24It hurts.
04:25I woke up today.
04:27Aches and pains.
04:28How'd you feel?
04:29Awful.
04:30Terrible.
04:31I wasn't happy about waking up.
04:33It would be something to just be like, again.
04:35Yeah.
04:36Because you open your eyes and you're like, no!
04:38Right.
04:39Yeah.
04:40When will it end?
04:42After life, after life, after life, after life.
04:46Are you trying to lucid dream?
04:48Yeah, I was hoping I wasn't here again.
04:50I get it.
04:52But I am.
04:53I get it.
04:54Oh, man.
04:56Oh, wow.
04:57We have a way of taking really heartwarming stories.
05:00Yeah.
05:01You know, you gotta be real.
05:03That's so old, though.
05:04Oh, my God.
05:05That's so old.
05:06That's so old.
05:07Crazy, crazy old.
05:08You know, and a lot of them, listen, you know, a lot of these things, they shock me at
05:12how well the person's still doing, right?
05:15Yeah.
05:16To me, that's doesn't appear to be how I'd want to be.
05:22Yeah.
05:23Rocking it out.
05:24I'd be like, wheel me off this cliff.
05:26Yeah.
05:27She survived COVID, you know?
05:28Yeah.
05:29She's like, somebody cough on me.
05:31Well, yeah.
05:32Yeah, exactly.
05:33Why can't we get it here?
05:34God.
05:36My goodness.
05:37I've been licking everything I could see.
05:39Oh, turns out it was in the air.
05:44It's in the air.
05:45It's in the air.
05:46And I was like, no vaccine.
05:47No.
05:48No.
05:49Oh, my God.
05:50They gave it to me.
05:51Oh, man.
05:52They said it's working great.
05:54You probably think at like 100, you're like, there's absolutely no way there's any more.
06:00Three more.
06:01Three more.
06:02Yeah.
06:04That's insane.
06:05Doesn't seem like it's a fun thing to get to 103.
06:08It's good for her family.
06:09Yeah.
06:10Sure.
06:11They have her around still.
06:12They may be gone.
06:13They may all be gone.
06:14I didn't think about that.
06:15You don't know.
06:16No, you don't.
06:17I didn't see any of them there.
06:18Nope.
06:19Talking for her.
06:20The mayor's got to have some kids or something.
06:21Someone there.
06:22I don't know.
06:23And if they were eight, they could have died by 80 and they're gone.
06:25That's true.
06:26Oh my gosh.
06:27I didn't think of that.
06:28Just nuts.
06:29Everybody I know is gone.
06:30She's outlived everyone probably.
06:31Everybody I know is gone three times over.
06:33Made them.
06:34Made friends again and they all died.
06:35My grandkids are dead.
06:36Oh my God.
